- CB810, on 11/09/2009, -1/+46I don't see a few titles I would include:
Caged Heat
Prison Heat
Reform School Girls
Chained Heat
Slammer Girls
Caged Fury
Black Mama, White Mama
Girls in Prison
Nymphos Behind Bars
Bad Girls Dormitory
Maybe we just think of different movies when we talk about prison flicks - bigthree, on 11/09/2009, -0/+40Shawshank never gets old--- great movie
- Solkre, on 11/09/2009, -0/+27Shawshank is one of those movies that you stop and watch to the end, no matter where you pick it up flipping through channels. Few movies have this pull.
- benjaminsumner, on 11/09/2009, -2/+21Good list, but I'd swap Cool Hand and Shawshank!
- frousfroud, on 11/09/2009, -0/+14I'm not locked in here with you... you're locked in here with me.
- chuckDontSurf, on 11/09/2009, -1/+13It's all Morgan Freeman's voice.
- bubbameister33, on 11/09/2009, -0/+11Don't forget Cage Heat II: Stripped of Freedom.
- PVanderVossen, on 11/09/2009, -0/+11If you're going to include Tyler Perry, then I think we ought to include Ernest too. How about the cinematic classic, "Ernest for to Jail?"
- Mawds, on 11/09/2009, -0/+9Shawshank will always be my number 1.
- marcov8, on 11/09/2009, -0/+8You are missing Blood in Blood out
- PVanderVossen, on 11/09/2009, -1/+8It's nice to see a list of movies that doesn't suffer from a short memory. I haven't seen a few of the older films, so it gives me a couple to keep an eye out for.
- tomasmarc, on 11/09/2009, -0/+7Um... Can "O Brother Where Art Thou?" count as a prison movie? 'Cause if it can, it is one of the best, imho.
- Elset, on 11/09/2009, -0/+7http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099512/
- Jericho6, on 11/09/2009, -0/+6I'm disturbed by the lack of Tyler Perry movies here. Medea goes to Prison? Where's that? Oh wait, I'm sorry, my brain just kicked in. Nevermind.
- PVanderVossen, on 11/09/2009, -0/+6Just re-read that. Sometimes my typing fails are quite impressive. Should have been "Ernest Goes to Jail" of course.
- Samurai77, on 11/09/2009, -1/+7Hey did you read my netflix que?
- timothycrash01, on 11/09/2009, -0/+6Since POW films count (eg: The Great Escape), then "The Bridge On The River Kwai" should be near the top of this list. Strange the author missed it - not only is it one of the most famous war films ever, it also stars Obi-Wan Kenobi, and is a Best Picture winner (1958).
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050212/awards - johnomaz, on 11/09/2009, -0/+5Probably my favorite movie of all time.
- philomatic, on 11/09/2009, -0/+5The Last Castle such an underrated classic, should totally be on this list.
- gankige, on 11/09/2009, -0/+5Almost not Dugg for lack of "American Me".
- inkubusfan, on 11/09/2009, -0/+4Not going to bury because its a good list but I would have included Murder In The First.
LOVED that movie. - StewWriter, on 11/09/2009, -0/+4I used to watch Bird Man of Alcatraz a bunch... good list, tho.
- jdeane, on 11/09/2009, -1/+5A Clockwork Orange
- daviz0, on 11/09/2009, -0/+4its not a great film but i found "felon" quite good
- Ghostwo, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3What we have here, is a failure to communicate.
- mkriss5681, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3You know you're reaching deep when you have to use Alien 3 as a top prison movie. I loved Alien & Aliens, but 3 killed the franchise.
Maybe it should have been a top 5 list. It seems kinda watered down. - donkz, on 11/09/2009, -1/+4I'm just gonna digg you down, k?. I know you are acknowledging your prejudice mistake, but GAH
- minorthreat, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3"What we have here, is a failure to communicate"
- PhillyMJS, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3Dugg for The Great Escape. It's such a revered classic that If Hollywood ever tries to remake it, I will personally suicide bomb the people responsible for greenlighting the project.
- Xingularity, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3Actually she said she THOUGHT it would be a total dick flick, but found to her enjoyment that it was not. :)
- jdiggitty, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3Its also "Bound by Honor" I think. Haven't seen it in a long time but I remember it definitely made a big impression on me. Maybe cause its almost 4 hours long
- ShooterMcGavin, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3What? No "Tango and Cash"?? I'm appalled!
- DonAlfred, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3Felon is pretty cool too. Val Kilmer is pretty rad.
- quacker912, on 11/09/2009, -0/+315. Alien 3
14. Kiss of the Spider Woman
13. The Hurricane
12. American History X
11. The Green Mike
10. Brubaker
9. Papillon
8. Dead Man Walking
7. Bad Boys
6. The Longest Yard
5. Midnight Express
4. Escape From Alcatraz
3. The Great Escape
2. The Shawshank Redemption
1. Cool Hand Luke - LomasLou, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2"BROOKS WAS HERE"
- beerhound, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2I loved Shawshank, and a case can be made for any of the top 3, but I still have to give the nod to Cool Hand
- sp3opl3s, on 11/09/2009, -1/+3Actually Cool Hand Luke is probably one of the greatest movies ever made. It is rightfully #1 on the list, but Shawshank and Great Escape are great.
- awinters, on 11/09/2009, -1/+3Maybe you didn't understand my statement. I was acknowledging that I was wrong to think it was that which is why I recommended it to my girlfriends. Where is the problem here?
- johnomaz, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2Wow, thought The Green Mile would have been closer to the top. And Shawshank should have been number 1. By far the best prison movie in that list.
- learntolikeit, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2Andy crawled to freedom through five hundred yards of ***** smelling foulness I can't even imagine, or maybe I just don't want to. Five hundred yards... that's the length of five football fields, just shy of half a mile.

Hands down the best!

- noahgelman, on 11/09/2009, -1/+3Shawshank Redemption is the greatest prison movie ever.
- Disc2day, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2what about natural born killers?
- partysan, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2Where is Victory?
- TheScreamer, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2Dug for Brubaker, Pappilion, Midnight Express and Shawshank Redemption.... but also needs Hanoi Hilton and Felon.
- kthoma22, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2Naked Gun 3?
- charlietree, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2Shawshank for the win
- slapded, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2The soundtrack by Thomas Newman made shawshank
- lennybird, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2Would you guys consider The Last Castle for this list?
- dehnomac, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1An Innocent Man (1989). You get to see Tom Selleck shank a guy in the shower. and yes he gets to keep his moustache. You'll also hate bad cops more than you already do.
