- mchisari, on 07/17/2008, -0/+11
George Romero would say the same thing, but he'd use Zombies to say it.

- U83RMENSCH, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3ah... i love the sweet smell of destruction in the morning :D

- angusm, on 07/17/2008, -0/+7Except we're making it harder for them, because whatever they do, it has to be better than what Hollywood has done already, or it won't impress the New Yorkers.
"Death rays? Aw, man - that's lame! Can't you little green freaks do better than that? Come on, E.T., show us what you've _really_ got."

- skoles, on 07/17/2008, -1/+10Obviously the Digg algorithm has some sort of hole where anything with "The (x) number..." title gets immediate front page.
- dispontainious, on 07/17/2008, -2/+13that wasn't new york in the dark knight,
it was chicago, or "Gotham"- NeoCortex, on 07/17/2008, -4/+4I thought "Gotham" was a nickname for NYC. At least that's what Wikipedia gives if you search for Gotham.
- anillop, on 07/17/2008, -4/+3Metropolis = NY City
Gotham = Chicago
- anillop, on 07/17/2008, -4/+3Metropolis = NY City
- AshamedAmerican, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3Neo,
Gotham was originally New York (hence the name of course, the look), with its look exaggerated; plain, grey gothic buildings on every block, walkways between them.
Then in about 1999 or 2000, they had Gotham hit by a huge quake, leveling half the city. They rebuilt it, and now it looks more like an exaggerated Chicago (occasional old gothic buildings next to new, all curved glass monoliths, new buildings built on top of the old gothic buildings, elevated train running throughout the city) - centran, on 07/17/2008, -1/+1I always took Gotham to be a combination of New York and Chicago with maybe a little bit of Hong Kong thrown in for a tech boost.
The architecture is defiantly Chicago inspired. The population density and city structure is New York.

It always is though so I won't fight it. Great clips.- banmaster, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Except for the "when world collide" one. Seriously, other than a 3 sec shot of a flooded NYC all you see is 30 seconds of 2 ***** in a helicopter.
Lame, really lame.

- bpeacock22, on 07/17/2008, -1/+4Didn't that pretty much cover ALL movies that have destroyed NYC?
- Oshi, on 07/17/2008, -0/+11what about Escape from New York??
- ericisroot, on 07/17/2008, -0/+6War of the Worlds was in Bayonne, New Jersey.
- jakethelake, on 07/17/2008, -2/+5***** Jersey.
- Tyrghast, on 07/17/2008, -2/+4If you're destroying a Gotham whose buildings exist in Chicago... does it still count as NY?
- JMitch42, on 07/17/2008, -1/+4I read the first sentence and realized this guy had never heard of Chicago before...
- algaeturd, on 07/17/2008, -4/+0Too soon, maybe?
- DrvThruPnk, on 07/17/2008, -1/+5No Ghostbusters?

- ShadowFoxxx, on 07/17/2008, -0/+4One of the greatest cities in the U.S.: New York being destroyed in the most unimaginable ways. Mostly with overflowing water.
I think it's become a trend for Hollywood to pick on it's east coast friend. - keithnoir, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2If a City falls it will be because of its people and if our cities fall the heart of our civilization stops. To dramatic?
- joerod, on 07/17/2008, -6/+3fortunately NYC is to awesome to ever really be destroyed :)
- banmaster, on 07/17/2008, -0/+7'too'
- applebyte, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1interesting...
http://thepiratebay.org/tor/4301110 - Wakewoman, on 07/17/2008, -5/+1Too soon, Gawker. Too soon.
- PaulyBunyan, on 07/17/2008, -1/+4gotham in dark knight is shot in chicago (based on chicago), the article is trying to jump on the batman bandwagon and didnt check its facts, these lists are getting annoying anyway, no digg
- mayhemchaos, on 07/17/2008, -0/+10Ai is inaccurate. WTC towers didn't make it...
- Firespray1138, on 07/17/2008, -0/+5You'd think New York would finally wise up and take better security measures to stop being destroyed over and over again...
- DiggzDE, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2I kind of wish there was more commentary on each film then just a clip.
- MacDevyn, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1That list isn't the top 15 destructions of New York, it's every destruction of NY in film history.
- prunch, on 07/17/2008, -0/+6Watchman trailer http://digg.com/movies/Watchman_trailer_is_up
- Doobie88, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1SWEET!
- robinahman, on 07/17/2008, -0/+5They forgot Futurama, season 1 episode 1.
- Doobie88, on 07/17/2008, -0/+4Deep Impact is my fave on this list. (not the movie, just the destruction).
- Scriabin, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3Yeah the destruction is actually done well. There's no loud blaring music, annoying black dudes making random witty comments, etc. It's done silently when compared to other destruction sequences, frighteningly realistic, with only the sounds of death and destruction, and that's what makes it the best sequence for me. The movie on a whole wasn't that bad either if you compare it to... well, Armageddon, yuck.
- mikegifford, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Good post but most of those videos are 1994 Quicktime quality. In War of the Worlds Tom Cruise's is made up of five pixels; one beige one and four white ones for his teeth.
- nboettch, on 07/22/2008, -0/+0Seriously, great post idea, but mostly unwatchable clips.
- Jaysunli, on 07/17/2008, -1/+4No, Escape from New York.
Buried. - Kruse, on 07/17/2008, -1/+1War of The Worlds didn't destroy New York City.
Dumb, half-assed list. - eggballs, on 07/17/2008, -3/+1Personally, I liked 9/11 the best. Oh, wait, you mean... that was real? I can't tell anymore! (Anyone read Fahrenheit 451? Probably not.)
- R2Bacca, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2I did.
- R2Bacca, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Paris... Egypt...Buffalo. Wow.
- Monkeydew06, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1DAMN, it took out ALL of Egypt? *****!
- teamgwho, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1fail.
War of the world shows them destroying Hoboken. I know cause I was around when Spielberg and Cruise were there filming. Also the tallest building in the area aside from a church is a bunch of overpriced 2 story houses.
And seriously... Godzilla? Independance Day? I mean couldn't you have cut the list to 10 and exorcised those *****-bag movies?
Also buried cause they can't decided where they want their titles for the films and it's annoying. - yourpalOZ, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Next time I go to Vietnam or India I want to ride ontop of the train like I see in the movies.
- Portagine, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1Who knew so many ***** films could be collected in one list.
- mackii, on 07/18/2008, -0/+0Isnt dark knight set in chicago?
- razorsharpwit, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1AHHHHHHHH
I H8
N Y - Pegritz, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1New York City is an absolute *****. THAT is why people love to see it destroyed.
- Monkeydew06, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1I know it's kind of a weird thing to say.. But am I the only one who, when looking at a city scape of New York set in the future, looses all belief in the storyline once I see the two towers? I dunno, kinda messes with your head...
