- chocobomog, on 10/11/2007, -1/+35There is no way the SMB movie is worse than Uwe Boll crap. That movie was a "masterpiece"!
http://www.digg.com/gaming_news/Why_the_Super_Mario_movie_is_a_Masterpiece
#9,5, and 4 are the worst films IMO. Street Fighter, SMB, and Wing Commander are "bad" movies, but they are entertaining and fun to watch MST3K-style with a group of friends. But Uwe Boll's films are just unwatchable and reek of bad filmmaking. - thelastknowngod, on 10/11/2007, -2/+26how could Doom not make that list?
- kinseyincanada, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21i thought the super mario movie was great.
- mvanhorn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18While not very much like the video games we grew up with.. I thought Super Mario Bros was AWESOME at the time.. prob because I was very young
- bfaulk04, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17So much more could be said about the Super Mario Bros movie...
I remember watching it when I was younger and thinking, "are they even talking about the same Super Mario Bros as I am...?" - hartley, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13The 10 worst?
Can someone actually name a video game movie that was good? - robshoy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13I liked the Tomb Raider movie.
- drgnpaladin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Is it just me, or is this not a very competitive category? I think it'd be harder to find 10 video game movies that WEREN'T bad.
- plantfood, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11buried as inaccurate... doom was not on the list
- Anrkist, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9What makes a BAD movie? Bad acting, bad storyline, bad cuts, ugly women.... naw. I think it's a movie that just doesn't entertain you, a few of these did entertain me when I was younger.
- bagboyrebel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9I actually liked the movie once I stopped trying to connect it with the game. It may have been nothing like the game, but it was a fun movie.
- jklyon, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10I enjoyed Tomb Raider and Resident Evil. The others, however, NO.
- CptCancer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Well, if you reverse the list you get the 10 "best" video game movies in history.
- commonsence21, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8when I was like...8 I used to LOVE the double dragon and mortal kombat movies. Somehow everything just seems better when you're a little kid.
- Rimrose, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I like the Super Mario Brothers Movie. Especially when I was little. It was good fun.
- gcauthon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7By the author's own admission, Tomb Raider only made the list because there was no nude scene involving Angelina Jolie. That little fact goes a long way in judging the maturity of this particular movie reviewer.
- stronglikedan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7The author loses a considerable amount of credibility by including the Resident Evil movies. He then goes on to lose ALL credibility by failiing to include Doom. This is not just my opinion, but a reflection of box office and dvd sales as well. I would hope that the next person to attempt this list actually spends more than 15 minutes on it.
Buried for LAME (yes...capital lame). - msaleem, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9Here's the flip side:

Direct link:
http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/opinions/the-10-worst-movie-video-games-in-history.php - Doomsan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6The main problem with movies about video games is that they make it too damn different from the source, why???
why the street fighter movie couldn't have been about the rivalry between ryu & ken and about the 8 fighters and their stories, why the super mario bros movie couldn't take place in the mushroom kingdom with all the regular characters just as we know them...
STICK TO THE GAMES AND DON'T COME UP WITH THAT CHEAP SCRIPTS!!
and yes...where's Doom?, that movie was terrible. - Flashman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Mario is really a very lazy choice for #1.
- Battleloser, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Because video game makers are all stoners, and movie makers are all uptight suits who don't know entertainment when it bites them in the ass.
- GorfTron, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4NES jaws is better than the movie
- Battleloser, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Balance is maintained by the discovery and appreciation of boobs.
- LegOfLamb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Shouldn't this list just consist of Uwe Boll movies? I mean, this one's more accurate:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0093051/ - Puppetfunk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I also enjoyed that movie, it was Mario in essence but with the Director/Writers own spin on the series.
- Kristophe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+310. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)
9. Bloodrayne (2006)
8. Double Dragon (1994)
7. Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)
6. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997)
5. Alone in the Dark (2005)
4. House of the Dead (2003)
3. Wing Commander (1999)
2. Street Fighter (1994)
1. Super Mario Bros. (1993) - zaul32, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I don't know if we can count tomb raider or Bloodrayne. The complaint is that they are all boobs, but that is exactly what the games were. They pretty much stayed true to the games.
- h4mx0r, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I wasn't even aware there were more than 10 VG movies XD
- dark2025, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I'm surprised Doom wasn't on there. I laughed my ass off when they did that first person scene. I hope the entire second Doom movie is done like that.
Anyway, I don't remember one good movie based on a video game, and yet just like the whole comic to movie phase that we're in now, a new video game movie fad is coming: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Films_based_on_video_games#Currently_in_production
Hollywood really needs some new material, and stop basing movies off of games and comics. - Splizxer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3It's a bomb-omb!
- freeb26, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3You read the video game names and wonder what the hell they were thinking making the movie.
- smacksaw, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I never EVER though Resident Evil was a scary game, just a gory game with lots of action. The movies are gory with lots of action. The problem is that people critiquing the films are too retarded to have played the games. But what is even worse is they assume that a movie with zombies has to be scary. Shaun of the Dead wasn't scary. By that logic it must be the worst "horror" film ever made. Resident Evil isn't horror, it's action. Those were good action movies and I anxiously await the final movie later this year.
- jonnymj, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4I really liked Doom actually
- toekneebullard, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Uwe Boll is amazing. God I love his movies. I mean come on, House of the Dead has some of the best dialogue in a movie ever:
Bad guy: And I will be immortal!
Good Guy: But why?
Bad Guy: So I can live forever! - Urusai, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I thought the "Silent Hill" movie was passable. I say that never having played "Silent Hill", for what it's worth.
- avalonknight, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I actually hold the Super Mario Bros. quite higher above all the other. Even though it was cheesy, it took the characters and setting into a very different direction. The last time I watched it, I thought, "Wow, whoever made it had some balls to deliver something different. Sad thing the reception was bad."
- bagboyrebel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I seriously think people are to harsh in judging video game based movies. Sure, the Uwe Boll movies pretty much suck, but it seems that nobody even gives the rest of the movies a chance. People care more about how closely the movie resembles the game rather than how entertaining the movie is and I think that is the wrong way to watch a movie.
Also, the resident evil movies aren't supposed to be horror, which I thought was a good thing because otherwise it would have been just another zombie movie in my opinion. - PopeJubs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Buried as inaccurate.
House of the dead IS a good bad movie.... In fact I'd go so far as to call it the best. - Rileyper, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Super Mario Bros was awesome back then but if you have played a newer super mario game past mario 64 than this movie isnt for you, the movie added more detail to the mario saga.
- nullx42, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2IDDQD MOTHER *****!
- ICasualty, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2where is doom?? that movie was crap if it was supposed to be about the games.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Surprisingly Super Mario Bros is a pretty good movie i really liked it.
- cultist667, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Does no one here appreciate Raúl Juliá's performance as M.Bison in street fighter. Tomb raider wasn't that bad it was watchable at least.
- TheWriteGuy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2So far the best movie based on a video game is Silent Hill, and even that movie had its flaws, unfortunately.
- Deku, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I dissagree with the order of this list. Bloodrayne at number 9? Should be much lower. And Tomb Raider wasnt all that bad. Not to mention I love Mario Bros. But I know it has to be on the list haha. Its so bad its good to me :D
- caddyalan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"Greatest Movie Ever" podcast loved the performance, so now you have one person supporting it.
- Deku, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Take away the Video game, and its a damn good movie. It is about the games, and it has some subtle easter eggs if you look for them. It was very well done for being based off a game.
- SilentRamble42, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1What? No Paul W.S. Anderson?
- nullx42, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1***** OFF
- Matri, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Then what's the point of tying it to the game if it has nothing to do with the game?
