- lornefs, on 06/04/2009, -3/+70Galaxy Quest!
- EatingPie, on 06/05/2009, -4/+58I liked all the films chosen, but definitely disagree with the ordering. And Star Trek IV was a stroke of brilliance. However...
No Fifth Element??? I am amazed that they missed it.
Fifth Element walked the line between wacky comedy, science fiction action, real depth of character and theme, better than any movie... even Star Trek IV. The production company wanted it changed, but Luc Besson had final cut and refused (thank God!). The production company didn't want to release it, but they'd already payed for it so they had to. It was sold as total action, so I was really taken aback when I saw it the first time. Didn't really get it until the second viewing, and I was in love. Great movie!
-Pie - bubbameister33, on 06/05/2009, -1/+49Groundhog Day was science fiction?
- Phennim, on 06/04/2009, -0/+36Wait, don't open that! It's an alien planet! Is there air? You don't know!!
- Wavemancali, on 06/05/2009, -2/+34Galaxy Quest by far should be number one, but Brazil should have been on the list. I'd even put Idiocracy over Tremors.
- michaelpinto, on 06/05/2009, -2/+30No mentions of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or Red Dwarf... : (
- Awwzm, on 06/05/2009, -0/+26By Grabthar's Hammer...what a savings.
- benmandude, on 06/05/2009, -2/+26I digged you, but the 'THHGTTG' movie was abysmal, however the books/radio series were supreme.
- ahhell, on 06/05/2009, -0/+22Bah!!! No Idiocracy
then again...it's more prophecy than comedy
OH...My Balls!!! - feezus, on 06/05/2009, -0/+22Found anything yet?
WE AIN'T FOUND *****! - rightmindx, on 06/05/2009, -5/+25Mystery Men ranked higher than Spaceballs? I stopped reading right after that.
- STBAT25, on 06/05/2009, -0/+16Although it doesn't really doesn't fit (it was a tv show that made one movie) I loved MST3K.
- SmackMyMac, on 06/04/2009, -2/+17Doom. That ***** was hilarious!
- hydroplane, on 06/05/2009, -1/+16How can you write an article about Sci-Fi comedies and not mention Ice Pirates.
- ViscidGobs, on 06/04/2009, -6/+21Back to the Future was a comedy? It has it's funny moments but Galaxy Quest is number one. What a brilliant parody followed by Mystery Men as super quirky and funny. Geoffrey Rush as Casanova Frankenstein. Jock: "Hey boss can we bring the brewskies?" Casanova: "Of course you can bring the brewskies."
- snurfle, on 06/05/2009, -0/+13"Miners, not Minors!"
- popzero, on 06/05/2009, -1/+13If you like Simon Pegg it's worth tracking down the sitcom "Spaced." Not science fiction, but loads of scifi/horror references. Actually both seasons (7 episodes each) appear to be on YouTube. One of my favorite scenes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1msfouQzrM
- CasinoJack, on 06/05/2009, -0/+12Also, this list is about movies. Though I agree that Red Dwarf is the best sci-fi comedy series ever EVER.
- Hardataq, on 06/05/2009, -2/+13By Grabthar's hammer....what a savings....
- duncan202, on 06/05/2009, -1/+12Sigourney looke hot in that movie.
- drmangrum, on 06/05/2009, -0/+10Welcome to Costco. I love you.
- inactive, on 06/05/2009, -1/+11I agree, the Fifth Element was great and should have been on the list.
- CaptainNoPants, on 06/05/2009, -2/+12I do not agree with the ranking of Spaceballs. Good day sir.
- kodax, on 06/05/2009, -1/+11Dont agree with everything but I give props to the author. Pretty good list.
Some notable omissions:
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
Being John Malkvich
Coneheads (people will disagree but IMO the movie is extremely underrated) - donkeycrock, on 06/05/2009, -1/+10Idiocracy is by far the best sci-comedy
- JDanner3, on 06/05/2009, -0/+9Bravo! All on one page!
- CoreyTamas, on 06/05/2009, -1/+10The protagonist convinced a farmer he was from the future by torturing him with Van Halen.
Yes. It was a comedy. - apetrie, on 06/05/2009, -0/+8Back to the Future is a lot of things, most definitely including a comedy!
- Fabbyfubz, on 06/05/2009, -1/+9NUCLEAR WESSELS?
- jedinate, on 06/05/2009, -1/+9Is Time Bandits considered Sci Fi/Comedy? If so, where is it????
- Beatmiser, on 06/05/2009, -0/+7Regarding Groundhog Day, This:
"Director Harold Ramis once said it was thousands of years, but the official word now seems to favor about ten years."
-Blew my mind. I'd never even considered it. - thebigredcat, on 06/05/2009, -0/+7What?! No Red Dwarf?! Buried for that smegging oversight!
- Smokeydabear, on 06/05/2009, -2/+9Mystery Men wasn't really sci-fi, it was more of a comic book movie that came out way before the general public sucked the ***** of any comic book movie that was offered on a tray to them. Still, a good movie.
- Technobull, on 06/05/2009, -2/+9The Blue Rajah says go fork yourself.
- bigteebo, on 06/05/2009, -0/+6The author casted much too wide of a net of what a sci fi comedy is. Groundhog Day is not science fiction. Dark Star is.
- seanstuart, on 06/05/2009, -2/+8Mystery Men was so bad, it shouldn't be mentioned in any context.
- meierm01, on 06/05/2009, -0/+6I'm surprised no one has mentioned Men In Black...
- ahhell, on 06/05/2009, -0/+6Correction:
OW...my balls. - inactive, on 06/05/2009, -0/+6***** You, I'm Eating!
- sanman, on 06/05/2009, -0/+6The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Db4avDn1mc
memorable quotes? - OckamRazier, on 06/05/2009, -1/+7The Tick was so much better than Mystery Men. I know it was never a movie (it should be though) but The Mighty Blue Bug Of Justice at least deserved a mention.
Spoooooon!!! - drmangrum, on 06/05/2009, -0/+5The sad thing is, most Americans have never heard of it. Had it not been for PBS, I never would have known that show existed.
- Wreckage, on 06/05/2009, -8/+13Star Wars: Episode One.
What a great parody of the original star wars movies. That Jar Jar was hilarious. And turning the force into nothing more than bugs in your blood... genius! Top it off with the wooden acting and racial stereo types. Should be #1 for sure. - jezsik, on 06/05/2009, -0/+5I usually hate top # lists, but I have to give full credit to the author(s) for doing a good job. I certainly don't agree with their choices and rankings, but the fact that they gave good reasons for why they chose those particular films AND that they provided numerous alternative suggestions, gave me pause to consider. I'm now tempted to watch some of those films (and re-watch those I've seen).
- zinkox, on 06/05/2009, -0/+5spaceballs ftw!
- glue, on 06/05/2009, -3/+8Star Trek IV was NOT a comedy.
- UnFriendlyFire, on 06/05/2009, -1/+6Sleeper is hilarious.
- maddskillz, on 06/05/2009, -0/+5When kirk was explaining why Spock was so weird he said he took too much LDS at berkeley in the 60's. Of course he meant LSD, but being from the future he didn't remember the name exactly right
- foofightrs777, on 06/05/2009, -0/+5The BBC Television series was pretty good.
- rblancarte, on 06/05/2009, -1/+6io9 - I have a baaaad feeling about this list.
