- musicanatorbell, on 10/11/2007, -4/+43This list is missing Ichi the Killer, by far one of the most violent films ever.
For example, a guy is hanging above a bed due to 30 or so meat hooks that have been stuck through his skin. Then he is tortured, I won't spoil it but it is not nice. - resolve, on 10/11/2007, -2/+34Here's the list:
10. “The Hills Have Eyes” (2006)
9. “Two Thousand Maniacs!” (1964)
8. “Cannibal Holocaust” (1980)
7. “Saw” (2003)
6. “A Clockwork Orange” (1971)
5. “I Spit On Your Grave” (1978)
4. “The Last House on the Left” (1972)
3. “High Tension” (2003)
2. “Hostel” (2006)
1. “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” (1974) - IheartZombies, on 10/11/2007, -0/+26Ugh. That list is made of someone's favorite films that happen to be slightly violent. By far not the most violent.
- pirategaspard, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20I always enjoyed Dead Alive. The lawnmower scene at the end...
- crackedplastic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+21*Best* ultra-violent films of all time? BS.
Yes, Ichi the Killer is missing, and so is Oldboy. - onemanfilmcrew, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17This guy has no idea what he is talking about. The fact he put Saw above Cannibal Holocaust is absurd. And if he's going to put Hostel on the list because of the torture factor, then where is "Salo, 120 Days of Sodom" (if you can find a copy, watch it. Just be prepared for the most disturbing thing ever put to film. To give you an idea, the director was murdered shortly after completing it, and there are many who think he was killed because of this film).
- tomboy501, on 10/11/2007, -3/+17I admit when I saw this title, I was determined to bury as inaccurate if A Clockwork Orange wasn't on the list.
Good job, Fat Guys at at the Movies.
This definitely wouldn't have been a legit list without Kubrick's original 'bit of the old ultra-violence'. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Any list not including 'Ichi the Killer' instantly loses credibility. Not only is Ichi the Killer one of the most ultra-violent films in recent memory, it is also one of the more entertaining ones.
- Roger, on 10/11/2007, -7/+18@short_man (#7141068)
Better question is which sucks more, Saw or Hostel. - corevette, on 10/11/2007, -6/+17scariest i have ever seen: http://happytreefriends.atomfilms.com/
- l33tsauce, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9no Ichi the Killer means whoever made this stupid list is ignorant as hell. That movie had several scenes that are on my top 10 of most shocking like the cutting of the tongue and the hot oil shower.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=QnoOMaIqBdY
ps: and where the hell is Story of Ricky?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=f1rHQ4m_fdo - raoulduke87, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Where's Salo? If that ain't violent, I don't want to know what is.
- NoAccounting4me, on 10/11/2007, -7/+15No Hellraiser, no Digg.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Buried for Hostel. That was the biggest piece of ***** ever.
- Jasdar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I don't really feel that A Clockwork Orange should've made the list. I mean, violence was the major theme of it but as for actually seeing anything brutal and giving you the gut-wrenching feeling... The movie was more about the psychological effects of violence on the predator and victim, not the physiological effects on the audience.
- SnuKs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Yea Ichi needs to be there. Takashi Miike IS ultra violence!
- Nougat, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8http://www.duggmirror.com
- idonthack, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8They're missing Natural Born Killers.
- yohnstoppable, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9I agree with Ichi the Killer being on there. I'd put it above any of the movies on that list
- fino35, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6needs more:
Guinea pig series
Story of Ricky
dead alive - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6This is list is utter garbage. In the first place, 'Texas Chainsaw Massacare' is not that violent.
To place 'Saw' and 'Hostel' above 'Cannibal Holocaust' is utterly preposterous.
To not include 'Ichi the Killer' is absolutely insane.
To not include 'Salo' is beyond ridiculous.
What about 'Bloodsucking Freaks'?
What about 'Maniac'?
This is one of the worst violent films lists I have ever seen. This fellow obviously needs to spend some time educating himself with true exploitation films and nasty grindhouse horror of the 70's. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8#2 Hostel!?
LOOOOL - OaklandNative, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Irreversible. I'm all for the gorefest but that movie made me sick and I had to turn it off. Very disturbing.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0290673/
Edit:
I guess I wasn't alone. From IMDB (which I didn't know when I tried to watch it):
The first 30 minutes of the film has a background noise with a frequency of 28Hz (low frequency, almost inaudible), similar to the noise produced by an earthquake. In humans, it causes nausea, sickness and vertigo. It was the main cause of people walking out of the theaters during the first part of the film in places like Cannes and San Sebastian. In fact, it was added with the purpose of getting this reaction. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5need mirror.
- tehnico, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5"If you listen to the audio they stress that this is only American films."
Cannibal Holocaust is not an American film. - yohnstoppable, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6"All top 10 lists are *****"
Truer words have never been spoken, yet the lists keep coming. There is something about rankings that arouse everyone's interest, whether it be college football, video games, movies, or whatever you can think of. I'm convinced there is one guy running all of these sites that bring us top 10 lists, who is making all kinds of bank off the digg traffic - DaveXensen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Just saw Salo and Ichi the Killer this past weekend.
Two of the most brutally ultra-violent films i've ever seen (WAY ahead of Clockwork Orange and Saw...ugh)
Salo is seriously disturbing to watch, even to the most worn movie viewer - Wendigo6x3, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6nah that is just politics.
- Aliarse, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4@whoaohh (#7147736)
Is Cannibal Holocaust the one with the woman on a pole scene?
I know i've seen it, im just trying to remember if its the one im thinking it is.. - nubnub, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4wow... thought it said ultraviolet
- viewtiful, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7I agree! It need Ichi and Battle Royale. It just looks like a fanboy's little list of movies of what was in his DVD collection. Though, I am not sure why The Hills Have Eyes is on there. Hell, Bad Taste is better than that PoS (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092610/)
- FreDre, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Don't forget the Guinea Pig film series...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guinea_Pig_%28film_series%29 - neptytune, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I personally don't find Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) even remotely scary or violent. We watched it in film class recently, and even though 1/3 of the class refused to watch it, the other 2/3rds of the class found it unbearably boring.
I would agree with others by adding Salo, Audition ("kitty kitty kitty"), and Ichi. I was also wondering about Event Horizon, which was touted for being one of the bloodiest movies of all time upon its release. I'm sure if I sat around and thought about it, I could think of several others which should be considered.
The sad part is these guys really don't know many films by their picks on the list. They have stuck to pretty conventional films and failed to go beyond an average film goer, which most of the films have been watered down for mainstream consumption. - blaaguuu, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5How could one possibly have Clockwork Orange and Cannibal Holocaust on the same list?
Maybe if you take "best" out of the title... because while Cannibal Holocaust is an incredibly violent film, it is also absolutely horrible. - smackhero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4i can't view the page, but if Ichi the Killer isn't on there, then it's lost all credibility. and to the guy claiming that it's meant to be an "American" list, then why the hell is High Tension on there? Battle Royale should also be on there, but Ichi the Killer should be #1. Takashi Miike has basically defined the Japanese Shock-Gore genre (which this list happens to completely ignore).
buried as lame. - BlackSheepx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Men behind the sun should be on there...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Men_Behind_the_Sun - rlg420, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4You may chastise me for this or maybe not, but I would have to throw in Kill Bill Vol. 1 in there just for the fight scene with the Crazy 88. It was realistic looking and my wife actually puked watching it.
- cyberghost232, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I though Starship Troopers was pretty violent and a damn good movie.
- 4dplane, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I'm sorry but "Passion of the Christ" should really be on here. I mean all we did was watch the torture and then death of a man and we called it good!
- gr3yn3t, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5High Tension - that movie with the masturbating lesbian, ahh.
- pfunked, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102293/
Story of Ricky
Any movie in which one man uses his own intestines to strangle another man is OK in my book. - MarrowMan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Where the ***** is RoboCop? have you seen the directors cut? Holy *****!
- FearlessFreep, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Thinking the same for "I Spit On Your Grave", but it made the list... not really violent by volume but very memorable
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3buried as inaccurate, saw and hostel are on the list.
- ArmyOfFun, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Irreversible definitely has one of the most cringe inducing scenes I've ever seen. There aren't that many acts of violence in that movie though. It's one really good movie that I never want to watch again. Or at least, not that scene with the fire extinguisher.
Irreversible also differs from the other movies on that list (and most of the ones people are suggesting) in that the violence actually serves a purpose other than to titillate, scare or shock.
The one movie I'd add? Probably "Story of Ricky". - bpmdub, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3not really an officially released movie and a very rare bootleg none the less but I would have to say that the Nine Inch Nails Broken Movie has to be the most ultra-violent movie I have ever seen
- Synthos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Sorted by IMDB ratings:
Day of the Woman 5.0
The Last House on the Left 5.6
Two Thousand Maniacs! 5.6
Hostel 5.8
Cannibal Holocaust 6.1
The Hills Have Eyes 6.5
High Tension 6.7
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Saw 7.6
A Clockwork Orange 8.4 - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Ichi the Killer definitely
Battle Royale 1 definitely (the whole premise is to kill off everyone on the island)
2LDK was pretty brutal, even if the body count was only 2
Oldboy? No. It was more twisted than violent. The same goes for Lady Vengence and Mr. Vengence - gmurray, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3This list is garbage.
Battle Royale and Ichi the Killer defines that genre. - Synthos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Hostel 2 kinda sucked.
