- atomicpoet, on 03/19/2009, -0/+8Dirty Harry. Case closed.
- Chompy, on 03/20/2009, -0/+6Heh, funny story about this flick. When it came out, I was living in LA, and for some reason I saw this in the theater. When the "sun beam" melted the Golden Gate, everyone in the theater started cheering. A year later I caught The Day After Tomorrow in San Francisco, and the crowd roared with approval when LA was getting hammered by tornadoes.
- 3gibberish4q57, on 03/20/2009, -1/+6It's a classic tale of people drilling to the core of the earth that has been stopped by a secret military weather control machine in a ship made of unobtanium in order to restart the core by setting off a series of nuclear bombs. How could it not make the list?
- tallguyg, on 03/20/2009, -2/+7Dugg for San Francisco
Buried for being on 10 separate pages
But Dugg again for Christopher "needs more cowbell" Walken - kismetropolis, on 03/19/2009, -1/+5It's a slideshow --
but that said, the melting of the Golden Gate bridge is the best moment in the completely mediocre film The Core. - travvo, on 03/20/2009, -1/+5how can The Core make it onto the top 10 anything?
- smartcause, on 03/19/2009, -1/+4Glad The Rock made the list, the car chase scene is one of the coolest ever.
- travvo, on 03/20/2009, -0/+3HACK THE PLANET!
- Zera, on 03/20/2009, -0/+3Not a movie, I know, but the Breen successfully attack and do significant damage to SF late in DS9.
- Paal, on 03/20/2009, -1/+3WTF? Another slide show?
Get your clicks somewhere else, I'm not reading past the first page. - inactive, on 03/20/2009, -0/+2The Core was such a ***** movie.
- westonforbes, on 07/25/2009, -0/+2any list of bests that starts with "the core" is...well just wrong
- kyravon, on 03/20/2009, -0/+2Why is there a picture of Chez Panise at the top of this page?
1. It's not even in SF
2. It's not in any of the 10 "SF destroying films" they mention.
Off topic this list reminds me of seeing a preview for one of those Volcano movies they put out about 10 years ago. When the volcano blew up and destroyed LA, the entire audience (in SF) erupted in cheers. - darkintheglow, on 03/20/2009, -0/+2This reminds me of seeing "The Rock" in a packed movie theatre when I lived in San Francisco. The crowd went absolutely nuts when the cable car exploded, and pretty much any time anything else was demolished. It was enormously fun. Sadly that theatre isn't around anymore...it's been demolished.
- troymccluresf, on 03/20/2009, -0/+2She was the prom queen.
- lamejoketeller, on 03/20/2009, -0/+2They put the poster for the wrong Invasion of the Body Snatchers
and Bullit doesn't even come close to wrecking San Francisco, unless you consider one car exploding "wrecking" the city...
and come on, the Core? SF was in the movie for like 5 minutes... - Chompy, on 03/20/2009, -0/+2If you took that scene completely out of context (as in how stupid it would be for a man who can control metal to fly the entire bridge to an island for his guys to walk across when he could just fly his guys over on a slab of metal or drop a huge chunk of metal on the island from 40,000 feet, or *****, even crush the building with the bridge itself), and you also forget how awesome the first two flicks were in comparison, then sure, it was a cool scene.
- troymccluresf, on 03/20/2009, -0/+2The cable car that was apparently made out of TNT.
- Chompy, on 03/21/2009, -0/+1Well compared to San Fran, of course it does. But it's still a World City, I mean it beats most of the other options in the US.
- Lucas123, on 03/19/2009, -1/+2Hmmm. List won't load for me, but I hope "Foul Play" is on it.
- inactive, on 03/21/2009, -0/+1***** right. la sucks
- antdude, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1Top ten crappy movie. :P
- dominator1989, on 03/20/2009, -0/+110 pages? Why? The discriptions arent that long. Stupid site wants more money through advertising.
- plashricrem, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1Buried for no Dirty Harry. Although, The Rock is one of my favorite movies of all time.
- Teradoc, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1Worst part about it, the towers bent inwards towards the hole....not towards the shores where the anchors are. But I have to agree, best part
- tmaniac, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1WTF? No Day After Tomorrow? Tornadoes sucked that city dry!
- inactive, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1Up next: The 10 Best Movies That Wreck New York
- flatpick, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1Buried for slideshow and little content.
- YankeeSR23, on 03/20/2009, -2/+2Best movies?
I would just say they were 10 movies that San Francisco was a part of.
Though I do like the Rock...car chase scene was nice and explosiony (yeah I made that up) - sgtclydefr0g, on 03/20/2009, -1/+1they forgot MILK
- andibr, on 03/21/2009, -0/+0How difficult is to put on same page..
- janinekahn, on 03/19/2009, -3/+3Loved that scene in X-Men: The Last Stand where the Golden Gate Bridge flew to Alcatraz.
- magawake, on 03/20/2009, -1/+0ok, I was a bit off :-)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qD5GtohtRYU - nezza, on 03/20/2009, -1/+0Just because the 3rd film does not stand up as well as the first two, doesn't lesson that particular scene.
At the end of the day its fantasy, and we are looking for spectacle. Dropping the bad guys in, although simpler would not have been anywhere near as memorable and on that level it succeeds. - Monotonousblob, on 03/20/2009, -4/+1If that's the best San Francisco can offer, please stop trying. More than half those movies are terrible.
- magawake, on 03/20/2009, -9/+01. The Core (2003)
2. It Came From Beneath the Sea (1955)
3. Monsters vs. Aliens (2009)
4. X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
5. A View to a Kill (1985)
6). Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
7. San Francisco (1936)
8. The Rock (1996)
9. Bullitt (1968)
10. Towering Inferno (1974)
