- mjesq, on 10/10/2007, -3/+63Dugg for having Heat #1.
- bytor4232, on 10/10/2007, -2/+23No kidding. When I first saw Heat my jaw was on the floor during the bank robbery. It still makes my jaw drop. So raw, vivid, and everything goes to hell so fast.
Great movie.- GThrift, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0You took the words right out of my mouth. Not only does Heat have the hands down, best shootout scene but its also awesome because of the great cast and story. (the shootout is still the best part though ;) )
- noots, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14heat is easily in my top 10 movies and not just for that 1 scene, de niro and pacino in the same movie... the whole film borders on perfection
- Soniti, on 10/10/2007, -6/+13They really should have had Equilibrium on there. Every gun scene in that movie was freaking sweet. Not just one, but all..
- Radian, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5That was my first thought.... not sure what #s 2-10 will be, but damnit if the bank robbery from Heat isn't #1.....
I was actually about 1 km from the scene when they were filming it in downtown L.A., and I can tell you, it was f-ing loud. - Ireland, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3At least 5 of the best gun fight scenes are Clint films. So, IMO, lame list.
- EmperorAwesome, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1Fallacious. Shoot 'em up could easily fill all ten slots, with the sex scene at number one.
- EmperorAwesome, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1"Talk about blowing your load"
Damn straight. - maz2331, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4The bank robbery in Heat is absolute perfection - especially the SOUND of the rifles firing in a city. In surround sound you want to DUCK.
- bytor4232, on 10/10/2007, -2/+23No kidding. When I first saw Heat my jaw was on the floor during the bank robbery. It still makes my jaw drop. So raw, vivid, and everything goes to hell so fast.
- umdmatto, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10dirty Harry?
- Ireland, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Yeah, where the ***** was Harry's "I know what you're thinking punk.."?
- acrodev, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Top Secret - "Nice shooting!"
- homerj14, on 10/10/2007, -2/+50Ronin?
Dirty harry?
Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels?
Natural Born Killers
Bad Boys 2 Haitian's house
Unforgiven- Clint eastwood
Equlibrium
these are awesome too- dark2025, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13Equilibrium was brilliant. Such awesome action sequences. I was actually expecting this on that list.
- johnny222, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15Yes, Equilibrium's scene rivals The Matrix.
- sathishcj, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3I second,... er fourth that. Granted, the story of the movie was not that great. But Oh My, the fight scenes were brilliantly done.
- weijia, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1How about Buffalo 66's sequence at the end.
Hot dogg, that was the dang. - scallon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1What about the Michael Mann film that everyone seemed to hate? Yes, im talking about Miami Vice. The shootout at the end between Sonny and Crocket's team and the white supremacists. I mean, the way jamie foxx blew a hole through the guys stomach at the end was just bad ass. I would definitely put Ronin and Equilibrium higher on the list, but not including miami vice would be a shame.
And it wasnt really a shootout, but the part in the original Predator where Jesse Ventura mows down an acre of jungle with his mini gun is pretty tight too. - staticneuron, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I know this is a newer film but a ne HK flick called exiled directed by johnnie to blew my mind.
- bytor4232, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Badass list! I wholeheartedly agree 100%. Especially with Heat at #1, what a great movie.
- ruiacp, on 10/10/2007, -8/+6Good list, but where is John Woo's Face Off?
Is it #0?- mrdctaylor, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Yeh! I thought that the church scene at the end of Face/Off would make the list. It is in my top 5 easily.
- effektz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19Site is down, mirror with no popups http://m3.bestpicever.com/piles/?s=gunmovies

- ConservoHippie, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6My personal favorite is always The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
- SiNN4R, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I was suprised it rated so low on the list.
- danconia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Agreed. The final showdown is one of the most epic scenes in American cinema (though it was made in Italy). Perfect music and an all-star cast.
Here it is for those of you who haven't seen it (obviously SPOILER), ain't as good without watching the whole movie but what the hey:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awskKWzjlhk- EntropyGun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0"The final showdown is one of the most epic scenes in American cinema (though it was made in Italy)."
Spain, actually.
- EntropyGun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0"The final showdown is one of the most epic scenes in American cinema (though it was made in Italy)."
- TenebrousX, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11No Commando?! What is better than Arnold Schwarzenegger shooting, stabbing, or blowing up people for a full 20 minutes?
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Something more believable.
- znachtman, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3I thought the same thing.... Arnold in commando. Heck, there are 10 scenes in Commando that could all... easily... make up this entire list.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Something more believable.
- kilofox, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5What!??!?! No Basement/Wall 'O Guns shoot-out from Tremors?
"You done broke into the wrong wreck room!" - DeusNova, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Needs more Battle Royale.
- kh99, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6They left out "Once Upon a Time in Mexico". Maybe not the best movie ever but the gun scenes are very cool.
- kh99, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5...actually, I might be thinking of "Desperado".
- pltnz64, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6guitar case + assault rifle = ninjatastic ***** magic
- ONELOVE23, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You are, "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" was lame
- kh99, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5...actually, I might be thinking of "Desperado".
- wallcloud111, on 10/10/2007, -7/+6what about TERMINATOR 2??????? with Arnold just walking from the pickup bed to the semi-truck hood and blasting T-1000 at point blank range, and the music was building and everything.... it gives me chills!
- ZenMojo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Yeah, this list is absolutely perfect (except for the movies I haven't seen). Everytime I would think of a movie, BAM, there it is as I'm scrolling down. The Haitian fight from Bad Boys II was pretty good, too, though.
- Sornos, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8I was expecting at least one scene from Equilibrium. A very good action movie if you ask me.
- jatenate, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3That was the best gun fight seen ever - how could it not make the list?
- gizmo12688, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0That is *****........i love that movie
- wallcloud111, on 10/10/2007, -9/+1what about TERMINATOR 2??????? with Arnold just walking from the pickup bed to the semi-truck hood and blasting T-1000 at point blank range, and the music was building and everything.... it gives me chills!
- JoshuaLowe, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Resevoir Dogs - the Mexican standoff at the end. In fact, the whole last 10 minutes of the film.
- euphemizeme, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3*gives tissue*
Looks like you've still got some of Tarantino's jizz on your chin there.- JoshuaLowe, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2You've got the wrong guy. I took so much ***** from people for so long because I said Pulp Fiction was incredibly overrated. Most definitely not a QT fanboy, I haven't even seen Grindhouse and don't really care if/when I do.
- skyfire1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Grindhouse is actually one of Tarantino's good films. I was pleasantly surprised.
- JoshuaLowe, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2You've got the wrong guy. I took so much ***** from people for so long because I said Pulp Fiction was incredibly overrated. Most definitely not a QT fanboy, I haven't even seen Grindhouse and don't really care if/when I do.
- FireForEffect47, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1QT blows, and so does that movie.
There, I said it.
- euphemizeme, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3*gives tissue*
- euphemizeme, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Glad to see Open Range on there... that had what I would assume is one of the most realistic gun fights ever in a movie.
- speedk0re, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2#2 Dead or Alive (Miike film)
#1 For a Few Dollars More - D3koy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I'll be honest, I don't think The Matrix belongs on that list....The sequence wasn't that great, and unlike Heat, it doesn't get better every time I watch it...
- DangerCollie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I liked two guns scenes in The Matrix. One when Neo said, "Guns. Lots of guns." And the gun racks fly in. Totally cool. And in the lobby of the building. Realism...no. But I'd still rank it one of the best gun scenes ever.
For realism the shootout scene in Heat almost gives me flashbacks.
The most realistic tactical shooting scene I've ever seen was Collateral, where Vincent shoots the two guys in the alley. That's textbook, even watching it frame by frame. It could be a tactical shooting training video.
- Krizage, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11what about:
Desperado
or
Hot Fuzz (best gun fight with no actual fatalities) - bromac, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14Lobby shootout in the Matrix was lifted off Cowboy Bebop's "Real Folk Blues (Part 2)" series finale.
Which is one of the best gun scenes ever. Spike > Neo.- SteelAuger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I like Bebop as much of the next guy, but The Matrix was released in March 1999 and the final episode of Bebop aired in Japan one month later.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Ok, I'm eating crow on this one. The time line doesn't add up for Real Folk Blues (part 2).
Though I still suspect they got a little inspiration off the earlier "Ballad of Fallen Angels" cathedral scene. I just mentioned the finale because it's a kick ass gun/sword fight.- GUTTS, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Balled of Fallen Angels wow man love that episode. The song while hes falling out of window is just haunting.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Ok, I'm eating crow on this one. The time line doesn't add up for Real Folk Blues (part 2).
- noumuon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1speaking of anime... the first action scene and the second to last episode in gunslinger girl are great. it's counter strike in anime form. for anyone who hasn't seen it, the first action scene goes like this: little girl goes beserk, knocks one guy out, does a p90 rush taking out two terrorists with ak47s, two more terrorists are camping behind a downed table - one with an he nade and another with a mac10, both camping terrorists get headshot by the sniper who's camping across from the window. it's one kick ass anime.
- SteelAuger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I like Bebop as much of the next guy, but The Matrix was released in March 1999 and the final episode of Bebop aired in Japan one month later.
- vikktor, on 10/10/2007, -4/+20What the HELL!!.. the VERY final gun fight in Equilibrium was like the coolest gunfight EVER!! and wasn't even given an honorable mentioned....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erFz8jBzkhQ - WraTH017, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0I don't see scenes, all i see is posters on the mirror.
Dugg for The Good, The bad, and the Ugly. If there's one gun scene that stands out, it's this one... Very "subtle", yet very powerful.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awskKWzjlhk - Genady, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5How could they leave out Collateral? Now THERE was a bad-ass shooter. Say what you like about Crazy Tom Cruise, in that movie he presented someone who knew what they were doing with a handgun expertly.
- Krizage, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8how about
Desperado,
Hot Fuzz wins for the best gun play with no deaths. - sandbird, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Raising Arizona. Sure, it's not realistic in the least, and you can't even make out what the guns are most of the time aside from the booms, but that chase scene in the middle is one gunshot after the other for several minutes straight. Makes the movie.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The Nicolas Cage movie?
- chyya, on 10/10/2007, -10/+4LMAO!! no chow yun fat movies? what a retarded list. the hong kong mafia movies revolutionized gun scenes
- albinorhino101, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0Boondock Saints
Desperado
Last Man Standing
The Quick and the Dead
Aliens
decent list, but get my additional votes along with numerous other war movies- vl002001, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3um.. aren't there 2 chow yun fat movies on the list?
- albinorhino101, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0Boondock Saints
- flipt0s, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4hmmm no way of the gun... how disappointing.. such a great movie
- commitone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I agree. I found Way of the Gun to have the most realistic gun fighting tactics in movies.
- rhavenn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The opening scene from "Once Upon a Time in the West" should be included there as well. Great music, great everything.
- bioslogos34, on 10/10/2007, -6/+0You guys just spoiled my digging experience. i could tell what's on the top 10 just by reading your comments. you should all put a spoiler warning disclaimer.
- alexforcefive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Read the article before the comments
- ryantrask, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2By the way, Dumbledore dies at the end of book six. ;-)
- Vodka2389, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More have to be on that list. The Good, The Bad, And the Ugly should be a no brainer #1.
- Typhoon2009, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7They forgot Black Hawk Down, full movie.
- rupprupp29, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3One of these days I'm gonna make the Top 10 'Top 10 of all time lists' list
- Sazime, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Wow, worst list ever. Really. Of all bad "Top Tens," this one takes the cake.
- f0rr3st, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Then what is your list, oh King?
- icexe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5The list includes The Killer and Hard Boiled....that gets my vote!
- Smp351, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Where's Boondock Saints in front of that mafia house with that great chorus piece being played with no gunshot sounds? So good.
- albinorhino101, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4THERE WAS A FIRE FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2*Crescendo*
- silverwolfe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2*dafoed*
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2*Crescendo*
- albinorhino101, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4THERE WAS A FIRE FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!
- albinorhino101, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Boondock Saints
Desperado
Last Man Standing
The Quick and the Dead
Aliens
decent list, but the above movies get my additional votes along with numerous other war movies- theoddmonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I absolutely agree with Boondock Saints being a missing gem. The sheer creativity of that gun scene with William Dafoe is just powerful.
- zubguy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Last Man Standing is a poor remake of a great remake Fist Full of Dollars. Yes I know Fist Full was a remake of Yojimbo. See the originals and do your self a favor.
- posure, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Definitely Boondock Saints...THERE WAS A FIRE FIGHT! Classic.
- h4mx0r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Ah yes, Hard Boiled and The Killer... Good times...
- Dmaulchris, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4Smokin aces?
- h4mx0r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It actually doesn't have that much gun slinging, (one of my disappointments) although it did have a hectic battle towards the end.
- skyfire1, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Most gun scenes are good. The only bad gun scenes I can think of are from older movies like Die Hard, Rambo, and anything Chuck Norris is involved in.
- jay0312, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Where the heck is Face/Off?
- Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3In the bargain bin at Wal-mart?
- serpentor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4No T2 is one thing, but no PREDATOR !??! That jungle scene where they're all firing at once is nuts! We once pumped that scene out the window of our top floor dorm on THX, sounded like a war was going on halfway across campus.
- pronouncable, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Inaccurate.
No Equilibrium? - Devan612, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Doom on everyone, except the mighty few, who did not mention the mother ***** Boondock Saints. "Gun Scene"?
how about when the gun is in her face..."I can't buy a pack of smokes without running into 9 guys you *****"
It is truly sad to think that there are still people who have not seen that movie.- albinorhino101, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0oh good point, I simply forgot one of the best gun scenes in the movie...the cat!
- bonjourmr, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1National Lampoons: Loaded Weapon
The Emilio Estevez drop, roll and shoot. - pmooney, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I was worried that Heat would be absent from the list.
Disappointment was most definitely avoided. - coldphoenix, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5How is Leon The Professional not on this list....that is one badass near escape at the end.
- FrothyA, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Hey what about Invasion U.S.A with Chuck Norris. The scene where the US Army shooting cornered terrorists right in the middle of downtown Atlanta.
What about Predator? OK OK so there weren't much of gun verses gun fights in that movie but when Jesse Ventura busted out the mini-gun, don't tell me you weren't about to ***** your pants.
Or Saving Private Ryan which I say still has the best realistic small arms sound effects and I love the "pinging" sound when the clip of an M-1 Garand goes empty. - Pake, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Indiana Jones, when the guy dicks around with the knife and Indy shoots him. I feel that deserves a mention in best gun scenes.
- alexforcefive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2And the homage to it in Serenity, when the operative tells mal he is unarmed and mal shoots him =D
