- breakbread, on 06/29/2009, -3/+79People keep defending this movie BECAUSE of the fact it was directed by Michael Bay, but I don't think that's a good reason. Die Hard is a pretty straight up action flick, yet it somehow found time to not contain ridiculous plot holes and had relatively believable characters.
Honestly, some of this list is ***** nitpicky as hell, but he left out some of the more glaring stupid moments. For instance, why not just fight robots with robots? The human strategy seems to be indiscriminately sacrificing scores of human soldiers before sending in the Autobots to actually do damage and defeat the Decepticons. I realise it's all for show, but it would make much more sense if they'd simply made it to where the humans were able to deal SOME kind of damage to the Decepticons with small arms.
Oh, but later in the movie, the humans apparently unleash this rail gun that fires from a battleship and totally blows this one bad dude away. Then, for whatever reason, they never use it again and continue to indiscriminately sacrifice scores of lives for no apparent reason. No ***** sense. - inactive, on 06/29/2009, -6/+67ONLY 10? So much ***** motion blur you couldn't even see the damn robots half the time..
- Bender, on 06/29/2009, -1/+39Michael Bay is a terrible director. End of story. Anyone who goes and sees a movie made by him will get a movie with zero plot, dumb sex humor, and over dramatic ***** getting blown up. If you expect anything more from him then your an idiot. The sad thing is though, had you given this movie a better director, then I think it could have been REALLY good.
- therealdoug, on 10/08/2009, -1/+3513. If you were banging Megan Fox, why the hell would you go off to college. BIGGEST PLOT HOLE EVER!
- fluidfoundation, on 06/29/2009, -2/+35any time something doesnt make sense, just blow the ***** out of something.
- snowplusbrd, on 06/29/2009, -1/+3012. the Great Pyramids of Giza are hundreds of miles away from the "Daggers Point" or that area at the top of the Red Sea .... Yet Sam and Mikaela ran from the Red Sea to the Pyramids in 15 minutes
- CaptainNoPants, on 06/29/2009, -2/+25The mom after she ate the weed brownie was just ridiculous.
- Akraz, on 06/29/2009, -12/+32Most of these are the reason why I didn't like it at all.
The first movie was meant to show the graphics and what not because that's what everyone expected. The second one.. everyone wanted a story added to the big bad robots and all they got were a pre-school's children's story with hundreds of empty holes. - ghaltmann, on 06/29/2009, -0/+19How about 10 things that DID make sense? Oh? I guess that would be too hard to make.
- BrandonJM, on 06/29/2009, -9/+27You mean, beyond why it performed so well for such a bad film?
- tonytroz, on 06/29/2009, -0/+17Die Hard is widely regarded as a well made film. I remember watching the opening clip of it for a film class. It's definitely still cheesy, but reasonable and fun to watch. The characters were enjoyable and the story made sense.
- awtripp, on 06/29/2009, -4/+21you're on digg trying to bash a movie -- based on a cartoon about cars that transforms and talk -- by saying there are cars that transform and talk. at what point did you find yourself amusing?
- breakbread, on 06/29/2009, -0/+17not to mention how NO ONE ON EARTH ***** NOTICES A GIANT ROBOT HAS ATTACHED ITSELF TO A SATELLITE.
- strum40, on 06/29/2009, -0/+14"The parents in Transformers were hilarious!" - Carrot Top
- FearlessFreep, on 06/29/2009, -0/+14The Iron Giant?
- KrayzieKyd, on 06/29/2009, -1/+15says the guy complaining about it on digg?
- chocula78, on 06/29/2009, -4/+16Optimus is a Prime, which requires the knowledge of the Matrix of Leadership to be revived.
Jetfire was not dead, but in deep stasis thus requiring a small amount of the less complex energy of the cube to be revived.
My biggest gripe about the whole thing: WHO THE HELL THOUGHT THE TWINS WERE A GOOD IDEA???!!! THEY SUCKED AS CHARACTERS, WERE COMPLETELY UNFUNNY AND JUST GOT IN THE WAY.
BTW, calling them racist caricatures of black people is itself a racist statement. They weren't black. They were stupid robots who acted in a certain way. If you associate that manner of behavior with black people, then I think it is YOU who has the prejudice in mind. I've seen people of every race act and say stupid things like The Twins did, all the time. I don't think of them as acting black, but being uneducated and stupid people who would have been better off had their parents paid for an abortion. The Twins should have been aborted. - mykotron, on 06/29/2009, -1/+13How does a giant robot of Megatron's size shrink into something as small as a pistol?! Where does all the extra mass go!?!
THEY HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY!... *****... its called Mass-Displacement in the comics according to Simon Furman. And its actually a technology very suited for a species that revolves around disguise.
Besides, the All-Spark shrunk from the size of a large building down to something Sam could carry in the first movie. - Silentnite85, on 06/29/2009, -1/+12Yeah, and the last porn I watched had a Plumber trying to fix a leak. Doesn't mean its a plot.
- breakbread, on 06/29/2009, -0/+11No, Die Hard was pretty much a great movie. It was and still is a major benchmark for the witty action/comedy genre. Though Die Hard was mostly action, the comedy banter fit and never detracted from a tense moment. That's the other thing I can't ***** stand with Michael Bay. The man can craft some of the most incredibly awesome action sequences, build up to some great, tense drama and then ruin it with some not-funny one liner.
- Hetman, on 06/29/2009, -0/+11Yes it does.
- evanft, on 06/29/2009, -4/+14That's still no excuse for it sucking so epically and completely. There have been lots of great blockbuster action-type movies that were actually good, like The Dark Knight, Lord of the Rings, or even the last Rambo movie. But Transformers 2 has practically no redeeming value whatsoever.
- scriptcoder, on 06/29/2009, -2/+12Well your very productive with your life.
I love the fact that you're on digg and you're trying to pretend to be some sort of party animal that gets laid all the time. - mrshickadance9, on 06/29/2009, -4/+14Guys... if you were expecting transformers to be good you are an idiot. It's...TRANSFORMERS. AND SHIA LEBUFF
- nightsky07, on 06/29/2009, -0/+9You didn't notice that during the first movie?
- darthashwin, on 06/29/2009, -1/+10i didnt get this .. why did they have to use the cube's shard to resurrect the old transformer who helps them revive Optimus.
Why not just use the shard on Optimus to revive him? - scriptcoder, on 06/29/2009, -1/+10Just because it's a summer blockbuster does not mean that it has to be retarded. Stop using that excuse.
- inactive, on 06/29/2009, -0/+9Uhhhh its a job. He gets paid to write movie reviews. Money = Bar = Sex.
- inactive, on 06/29/2009, -0/+91. There were Autobots and Decepticons.
- sAnDeTri, on 06/29/2009, -2/+11The article was wrong as well; The air and space museum was not in Washington D.C. It was in Virgina near Dulles Airport and there is a giant field directly behind the museum. There are not hundreds of old airplanes in the field but a field none the less.
- inactive, on 06/29/2009, -0/+8Beast Wars had a plot.
- punkcat, on 06/30/2009, -0/+8would it have been too much for them to zoom out once in awhile too?
maybe an establishing shot? - chroko, on 06/29/2009, -1/+8SPOILERS.
Most of the complaints about the robots are because the author lacks context that exists in the official lore. There likely wasn't enough screen time to address them without having a long-winded monologue at the start of the movie:
1. There have always been female Transformers. But it's a standing order on Cybertron for Decepticons to kill female transformers on sight. Some groups did manage to remain hidden, escaping to Earth would be logical.
One Transformer can build another one, but they don't work so good (the Dinobots.) Transformers can also mate - but most of the females are dead, which is why we haven't seen this. In a larger context: if the Decepticons controlled the cube, killed all the females - they would have taken control of their race.
2. Shia broke his hand in an automobile accident during filming. It was amusing that they integrated his injury in such a nonchalant way.
10. The human form robot was a Pretender, the result of grafting organic material onto their robot forms. Sure, you might think this character was a Terminator 3 rip-off, but Transformers actually did this first in the '80s.
Double Bonus: The Decepticons did actually hit Sam and kill him. It's just that the Primes resurrected him. - punkcat, on 06/30/2009, -0/+7michael?
- hybrid45, on 06/29/2009, -0/+7Did Snape get him?
- alpharaptor, on 06/29/2009, -0/+7they destroyed one of their own to revive him, 5-1+1=5.
- inactive, on 06/29/2009, -0/+7Except that other directors can do the same thing, but with minor tweaks, make a science fiction movie, much more believeable.
Why bother having a script if your just going to ignore it and leave major holes that dont explain whats going on.
If Michael Bay was given the option to do Battlestar Galactica, it would have NEVER made it passed the first season. Nobody would have cared enough to keep watching that show because it would be nothing but special effects and horrible dialouge. - inactive, on 06/29/2009, -1/+8Yeah, wait for Avatar in December. It will be better than a Michael Bay movie, with a script that makes sense (as far as sci-fi movies go).
Michael Bay = Unbelieveable ***** going boom!
James Cameron = Seriously believeable ***** going boom.... Boom.... KA-BOOM! - richmomz, on 06/29/2009, -5/+11I got a headache when they tried to explain the convoluted (and quite retarded) plot of the movie. They should have just focused on their tried-and-true formula for success: Giant robots blowing stuff up while Megan Fox bounces around in skintight clothes. Unfortunately when the action DID start there was so much CGI it was difficult for my brain to completely process what the hell was going on half the time anyway.
- akaakc, on 06/29/2009, -0/+6Next movie premiere that stars Megan Fox, I'm showing up dressed in a toaster costume.
Ah, who am I kidding...
Megan Fox won't star in any more movies. - RIB08, on 06/29/2009, -0/+6but they took one apart... dummy.
5 on the bottom +
1 already on the bottom =
----------------------------------------
6 total at the bottom
6 total on the bottom
(1 they destroyed) =
----------------------------------------
5 should come up - kitsua, on 06/29/2009, -0/+6The original animated movie is almost unbearably awesome in multifarious ways. The constant 80's rock soundtrack being just one of them. Leave it alone, it's how I prefer to remember my transformers.
- polypropglop, on 06/29/2009, -5/+11"akin to Megan Fox becoming aroused by a very shiny toaster. Idiotic."
Hmmm..... - pnmoore, on 06/29/2009, -0/+6There is also one point when you can see a driver behind the wheel of Bumblebee, even though all of the characters are standing outside of the car talking...I think it is when Bumblebee rides up and bumps Sam's leg to make a point on something...
- Kronos6948, on 06/29/2009, -1/+7Megatron's extra mass turning into a gun goes to the same place that the Cube's mass went in the first Michael Bay movie of Transformers.
- copypastry, on 06/29/2009, -2/+8the fact that people WENT TO SEE IT IN DROVES!
- faskill, on 06/29/2009, -1/+6Uhh... I'm not Michael Bay.
- inactive, on 06/29/2009, -0/+5Yup and they could have done without any of the hassles by assembling the device on Mercury. But for the sake of the script, the Decepticons have to be both brilliant and utterly retarded at the same time.
- inactive, on 06/29/2009, -0/+5He basically hangs out in orbit, attached to a military satellite like a giant squid on a Mayflower ship, snooping in on everything the military does and relaying it to fellow Decepticons.
Ironically, his massive weight/body doesnt at all affect the geosynchonus orbit of the satellite, which would be easy to detect. You add a few tons to a device like that, it will alter the orbit slightly, if not greatly, but for the sake of the movie, it doesnt affect it at all. It looks cool, but they could have done something better by having him splice into one of the trans atlantic fiber cables (accidently cutting a few, which would be funny since it would explain why those cables were cut last year). -
