"you can't stop my marriage style" - obendega, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25Marital arts??? Those bad-asses!
- mlwarrior, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20What? No air juggling?
- dWhisper, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21The video was cool, though yeah, somewhat cheesy.
However, the guy who posted this story should be pistol whipped for saying "For reals" - Tbro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I love how it says the effects "might be fake"
Cause you know, they mignt not.
Nice video though - gurm, on 10/12/2007, -9/+23Of course it's gay. It's *marital* arts. They're probably married. :)
- t0dd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16I digg the video. kick my ass? probably.. but they would get worked in mma (ufc/pride)
- pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12"If you're still a naysayer, these guys will kick your ass. For reals."
There's a reason real fighters don't use all the insane techniques you see in video games. Staying on the ground and using fast, clean strikes is much more effective than spinning around ten times and leaping through the air. That stuff has its place, but only in technical demonstrations and kata competitions. They are a great demonstration of control, but extremely limited in practical use. - 4zumanga, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Based on the black belts I know (about 4), all of them would be quite capable of beating any group of untrained fighters. If nothing else, they can punch faster than I can blink, and if they hit you once, you would stay down :)
- chromo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11nice double KO.
- TheRappingShoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Thankyou Mr Miyagi ;)

Does the word "choreographed" mean anything to you? I actually think it was pretty good choreography on their part considering they were amateurs (at choreography). In a professionally choreographed fight scene with professional martial arts stuntmen you will see a lot of force behind their "attacks". But that's because professionals were trained to do that choreographed fighting.
Just as in pro-wrestling, choreographed fights only seem like they hurt a lot, but they actually train and choreograph those moves/fights. To see what I mean, look closely when pro-wrestlers do a "punch". Notice how they stomp a foot into the mat every time they "punch"?
Pick up "The Idiot's Guide To Professional Wrestling" by Captain Lou Albano and Bert Randolf Sugar if you want to learn more. - armbar, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12That looked like a bad 80's "martial arts" movie. However, A+ for effort.
- Nimortal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Very True.
In practical use, there should be 3 things to keep in mind
Balance, Distance and Timing. May sound obvious but believe me, makes a huge difference.
Also. Don't think. The logical mind is too slow.
Allow your instict to take over. Not your emotions. Emotions do nothing but cloud reality
My 2 cents :) - 83457, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10"The effects might be fake, but the moves ain't. If you're still a naysayer, these guys will kick your ass. For reals."
Decent video but lame description. Thank you dolson for showing some real fighting.
This is a real fighter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IP1LNZPGsXI - Alphabet, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Alright, I took several years of karate and guess what, it does jack ***** in a real fight. For karate to work, you need range. But in a real fight, the first thing people do is charge at you and you're now trying to punch each other when you're both several inches away from each other.
You want to protect yourself or really ***** someone over? Don't take karate/martial arts. Take kickboxing or ju-jitsu. I'm not saying karate is weak, I'm just saying karate focuses on form and finesse instead of power and speed. And in a real fight, you need power and speed. - ProfessorRiffs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Too all the naysayers:
When was the last time you did something that took that much effort for no reason at all other than to have fun doing it? If the answer is "never", cram it, this kicks ass!
If you have done something awesome though, let's see it! - aoeu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You never heard of him? He's the stunt double for Jackie Chan. A splendid fellow Chackie is.
- skaughtm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4but doesn't everyone take martial arts because they secretly want to be in a real life tekken tournament?
- bogomill, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7You probably enrolled yourself in one of those dollar-a-day karate classes at your local mall where the first thing they teach you is board breaking and other exhibition *****.
One of the first basic katas (forms) you will learn in a *real* karate instruction is how to do the different tsuki waza properly. Tsuki wazas are the correct way of forming a fist (or knife hand) and executing a strike with *power* and *speed*. After all in karate, one of the basic tenets is "Ikken Hissatsu" or "To Kill With One Blow". Also one of the first things you will be taught are the different uke waza or blocking strikes with *power* and *speed*. Karate relies on sudden powerful strikes to get the job done.
While it's generally true that a good grappler (wheter BJJ or traditional JJ) can outfight a good striker (karate or tae kwon do), grapplers rely on leverage and correct placement of pressure and body weight. A good striker only requires one blow to take out a good grappler (unless the grappler has good chin) but finding that one blow requires finding the right range and leverage. Which is why you will often see a grappler outfight a striker. While the striker is waiting to see *one* opening, the grappler has the option of taking *several* openings as each move the striker makes, presents an opportunity for the grappler to grab a limb and execute a joint lock. - Uthman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5lol - i remember when i was a kid, i tried doing that x&b move that law does with my friend =) glad i didnt crack my neck in half
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@4zumanga:
In true street fighting style my friend (who's a black belt in both Karate (2nd or 3rd degree) and Judo) had a guy jump out at him with a knife in the middle of the night. End result: knife guy ended up going to hospital.
The only fight I've seen him in (after a guy didn't like the way he looked at him) ended with the guy down on the the ground after one hit with blood squirting from his nose. - MasterDwarf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4My controller didnt work!
- NiLeS, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6ilyag:
I believe it's 73%... - dolson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You are right. Those fancy moves were very ineffective, as the fight ends in a dra--- er, shoot, I hope I didn't ruin the video for anyone!
- olego, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3When I studied it, it was called Chen 24. I always preferred Chen forms to Yang forms, personally, for all of their variety.
- titanass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Blah blah black smelt what ever. I have fought in dozens of street fights with black belts in a few martial arts styles and its not what you know its what you do they were easy KO's though one guys kicks were intimidating. I have fought tougher guys that were bar bums it doesnt mean that everyone is equal and all black belts suck or all bar bums are awesome fighters. Belts are just a level of knowledge and training complement's not an actual value of how tough and how good of fighter that you or someone is. A clear example of this is MMA/UFC where simple one discipline fighters are handed there ass constantly.
The above was ok but cleary not full contact and choreographed. - Nimortal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hehe, I had a Siamese Fighting Fish that I named Mr. Miyagi
He was cool :) - Nimortal, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Quite a broad generalization there don't ya think?
Are you assuming that if you study martial arts and have been in fights that suddenly you are too cool for digg?
... - compu73rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5He copied it from the blog post.
- dddddd32, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yea, Fedor is a god, probably the greatest fighter to have ever lived. He'd obliterate a Tyson or Holyfield in thier primes, but I personally prefer to watch Crocop, his style is more hollywood, and I love knockouts due to high kicks. Check it out.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8831714570868814239&q=mirko+filipovic - ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8WOW....UFC Tapout!!
Cool, a live reenactment of a video game based on a real sport!!!!
Oh wait that's just stupid. - pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Nimortal:
Very true. That's why martial artists train daily. A simple technique can be learned by the brain in a few days but it takes vast repetition to teach your muscles to do it as instinct. - Pennemu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Actually, the guy in the blue and white was doing a Chen Spiral Style form. Which is a very cool form of Tai Chi. It's too bad you have no appreciation for it.
- Nimortal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Now Here's some Tekken material :)
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8514518157668120764 - Nimortal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As could Tony Jaa (from Ong Bak)
That guy is crazy! - akinnee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dude that's awesome too, that guy is Eddy man!
- Simen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I don't really care much for fighting (as a sport anyway) and sure as hell don't have any technical knowledge of it to speak of, but that Fedor guy sure did seem able to put his skills into action.
The way he got those opponents to the ground and maintained the upper hand impressed me quite a bit. Not to mention how he managed to stay up and don't give in while getting beat.
On the few occasions I watch this kind of fighting I have a hard time noticing any real technique. I mean, they just seem to hammer at each other, going for either the head or the ribs. But that clip was different, and actually made it a whole lot more interesting.
I have to say though, that the butch black guy (with the insanely large neck) seemed to whip Fedor around a bit. - dolson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Real-life re-enactment of Guild Wars. Somebody put this on the front page!
http://youtube.com/watch?v=NKnLY4CFvDw
And unlike this story, the effects in this one are real. I think. - Nimortal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Training at the same time (preferably early) each day for 31 days I find is a great way train techniques.
But the techniques are only there to provide a framework of a particular way of moving. Each Martial art is not just an accumulation of techniques, but rather it provides a way of moving to which one can create infinite techniques from. Hence the "Art" in Martial art. - spiralspirit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Cowardly?! In a real fight you don't think about cowardly or brave. You put your opponent down with enough violence to make escape an option. If you think about honor a real fighter will eat you alive.
- technonoob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Mortal Kombat would have been better
especially a fatality move or two - snapcase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Pretty funny video. Pretty impressive moves too.
- RegisteredUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The current state of "martial arts" is really sad. There are basically two groups of people that take martial arts these days (particularly MMA)..
1) Guys that like to go out on Friday nights, pick fights with random people, and practice what they learned in class.
2) Guys that want to defend themselves from #1 above.
Add to the fact that McDojos are popping up all over, and UFC is getting more popular.. Yup, there are a lot of ***** out there these days. - TigerClaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is one of the coolest videos I seen on the net for days.
- imightbewrong, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Give 'em credit that was entertaining stuff!
- SloppyJoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This was awesome! They're not tryin to show off their fighting skills, they're fighting in the style of the game. Excellent work... Though I wonder how many times they accidentally kicked each other in the head when doin this stuff... I'd like to see a bloopers reel..
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Very cool, enough to tide me over until Dark Resurrection comes out for the PSP next month.
- RegisteredUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2> The effects might be fake, but the moves ain't. If you're still a naysayer, these guys will
> kick your ass. For reals.
Well, it's hard to say that they can kick anyone's ass. They're just doing fight choreography. For reals!!!11 -
