- tenabobina, on 07/04/2008, -3/+28Klaatu barada nikto!
- num3thod, on 07/04/2008, -11/+34Let me guess. The next two sequels to this movie, if there are any, are going to suck big time.

But of course I'll go see it, especially with Jennifer Connelly and John Cleese.
(clarification: I don't mean I'll go see it *with* Jennifer Connelly and John Cleese -- they never return my calls) - Supernova36, on 07/05/2008, -2/+14WILD STALLIONS!

Just say no to Blogspam - arkaycee, on 07/05/2008, -1/+12"The Day The Earth Stood Still 2: The Day The Earth Stood Even Stiller" (starring Ben Stiller)
and
"The Day The Earth Stood Still 3: The Week the Earth Stood Still" - SHUUTOBI, on 07/05/2008, -0/+10He's playing Klaatu, not Gort.
- smellytim, on 07/04/2008, -5/+14is it bad that i want to see it?
- FDisk, on 07/04/2008, -5/+14Looks good to me.
- SHUUTOBI, on 07/05/2008, -0/+7I somewhat agree, but I think this will be a good remake...
It may also get people to see the original, if they already haven't. - anagoge, on 07/05/2008, -7/+14Just out of curiosity, who would best be suited to play the part that Keanu has unfortunately been given? Who has the emotional capacity to play such a part? For some reason, I think an English actor would suit this role.
- mojoel, on 07/05/2008, -0/+7Or the Army of Darkness version if you prefer:
"Klaatu barada n-COUGH COUGH!" - Charun, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6You want to see it?
Whoa - zebragrrl, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6I started this trailer with
"Oh come'on Why the heck.. jeeze guys why the heck do you have to try and 'remake" every awesome movie ever made? What's next/ Casablanca?"
and I ended with
"hrm.. this could actually be quite good."
Surprise me Hollywood.. do it. I dare you. Earn my $8.75 - NeoCortex, on 07/05/2008, -3/+9You know, I probably would be willing to give this a shot if they had called it something else. This is not The Day the Earth Stood Still. The Day the Earth Stood Still is a classic of the genre that does not need to be remade.
- gn0stik, on 07/05/2008, -0/+5Stalyns
- apc3161, on 07/05/2008, -4/+9Damnit, this is one of my favorite movies of all time. Why are they going to ruin it? If you are going to remake a movie, at least stick to the original script (with a few exceptions with regard to putting it in a modern context). Changing the visual effects and stuff is fine, changing the story line is not.
- inactive, on 07/05/2008, -1/+6Heh...for the sake of high nerdery I just dug out my April 1978 issue of Fantastic Films to an article called 'The Language Of Klaatu.' The author, Tauna Le Marbe, traces the language used in The Day the Earth Stood Still to a number of possible root languages and attempts to decipher meanings.
"Gort from Vorenus" is apparently a Latin proper name associated with a Roman Centurian.
Here is Le Marbe's analysis of the message to Gort.
Phonetic Sounds Word Origins Literal Translation
KLA-TOO Bar-a-da KLAATU BARADA Stop Barbarism (I have)
NiK-Toe NECTO death, bind
The free translation given was "I die, repair me, do not retaliate."
Here are the explanations of the translated words.
barada- (latin) stop barbarism, (you)
Klaatu- (Intercept) 'Harryb', Harry Bates, writer of "Farewell to the Master" (Anglo-Saxon) Commander (Code) harry (obsolete) to agitate to worry, to make a predatory incursion.
Necto- (latin) necto-atus, death, kill, slay (French) necto, to bind, entwine (Phonetic Transposition Code) (plain text) bring back to life. - k3vinmartian, on 07/05/2008, -0/+5yep
- inactive, on 07/05/2008, -2/+7Michael Rennie was ill the day the earth stood still
But he told us where we stand
And Flash Gordon was there in silver underwear
Claude Raines was the invisible man
Then something went wrong for Fay Wray and King Kong
They got caught in a celluloid jam
Then at a deadly pace it came from outer space
And this is how the message ran... - casbboy, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4Their video player's down. How about the original popular digg?

:) - jasonh1234, on 07/05/2008, -1/+5I don't get why everyone has such a hate-on for Keannu. He seems to be one of those people that people love to hate.

- jasonh1234, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4Dude just OWNING a 1978 issue of Fantastic Films is high nerdery on it's own. You could've left it on the shelf and accomplished the same result. I don't even want to know how you found the issue you were looking for.
- Pinkshisno, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4BUT IT'S LATINO REVIEW!!!!
- iDoraemon, on 07/05/2008, -2/+6Regardless of whether this flick will be a phenomenal film or a mediocre B-movie, it doesn't deserve to share the same name as the original "The Day The Earth Stood Still."
- gregcotten, on 07/05/2008, -1/+4The MPAA has nothing to do with the creative process of movie making...
- tenabobina, on 07/05/2008, -1/+4Stars wars.... green....what?
- thundacracka, on 07/05/2008, -3/+6I think it looks promising.
- jpowell180, on 07/06/2008, -0/+3I am not a Director, but I don't have to be to tell a movie is not that great.
Let's say you get a piece of cake at a restaurant, and it tastes like crap - it sucks, and you know it.
You complain to the chef, who comes out and comes back with, "Well, could YOU have baked a better cake (from scratch, not Duncan Heines)?"
I don't have to be a fancy baker to complain about a lousy cake - I have it within my observational powers to asess that the cake sucks, and I have every right to say so.
This may not apply to every situation - say, if a physicist is working on an issue, and one who doesn't know jack about physics whines and says the guy sucks at his job - then it's ok to apply the Teddy Rooseveldt quote about critics not counting, etc.
But when it comes to familiar topics such as cakes and Matrix sequels, go for it, criticize the director (and his Tranny co-director bro).
That being said, the two sequels didn't TOTALLY suck...the failing was in the oversimplified resolution, the "Hi, guys!" nonchalance from Neo in Reloaded when he fought the Agents, etc...plus it didn't have the "sense of wonder" the original had (which, IMO, was the best flick of '99). - tenabobina, on 07/04/2008, -1/+4Yes, yes it is...
- Noctem, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3Instead of wanting to see it, just try to realize that there is no movie to see in the first place.
- Pusod, on 07/05/2008, -1/+4Latinoreview sucks! They're nothing but a bunch of third party content thieves! They hardly ever declare their sources, and if they do, it is from another third party website! Bunch of high school amateurs!
- SpenceMasta, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3umm but didnt you see the flash of gort "classic" at the end, it sure looked like the robot from the original
- inactive, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Yeah, this is a duplicate story.
- dragon76, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2He was ill The Day the Earth Stood Still, but he taught us where to stand.
- blackjack75, on 07/05/2008, -2/+4John Oliver?
- Aidje, on 07/05/2008, -1/+3I agree. How about Michael Rennie?
- iatebabies, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2i just about fell over when he first spoke, talk about a typecast.
- jasonh1234, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Because the classics are good but they're not up to date visually with what audiences expect these days. Update the visuals so that younger generations can enjoy them. I'm all for it so long as it doesn't mess with the story. If the story needs some minor tweaking to account for technological advances since the original than I'm all for it.
- PaulGriffin, on 07/05/2008, -5/+7According to Wikipedia, they've updated the story to be focused more on Humans vs Earth!
YES! I cant wait for a Star Wars remake which preaches going green for an hour and a half. - inactive, on 07/05/2008, -1/+3Keanu Reeves won me over from Constantine. Not saying that it was the best acting, but it is certainly one of my favorite movies.
- DeFex, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Fox likes to rewrite history.
- inactive, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2I guess I'd better not explain my intricate filing and storage system. Don't want anyone to get the idea that I'm a nerd. BTW, I bought that thing off the stand in 1978. ;-)
- noots, on 07/05/2008, -1/+2I'm not sure if it was down to keanu and his inablity to portray different people or down to how good The Matrix (1) actually is, but he is basically Neo every-time i see him.
- twinklyJesus, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1Michael Rennie...oh,wait...
- sanman, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1Puny human, you don't understand his elevation since becoming The One, in the Matrix movies.
