- num3thod, on 07/04/2008, -11/+34Let me guess. The next two sequels to this movie, if there are any, are going to suck big time.
- SuckMyDigg, on 07/04/2008, -6/+6That was way offtopic, but hilarious.
- Jeremyz0r, on 07/05/2008, -7/+6And... you could of directed them better?
- k3vinmartian, on 07/05/2008, -0/+5yep
- jpowell180, on 07/06/2008, -0/+3I am not a Director, but I don't have to be to tell a movie is not that great.
Let's say you get a piece of cake at a restaurant, and it tastes like crap - it sucks, and you know it.
You complain to the chef, who comes out and comes back with, "Well, could YOU have baked a better cake (from scratch, not Duncan Heines)?"
I don't have to be a fancy baker to complain about a lousy cake - I have it within my observational powers to asess that the cake sucks, and I have every right to say so.
This may not apply to every situation - say, if a physicist is working on an issue, and one who doesn't know jack about physics whines and says the guy sucks at his job - then it's ok to apply the Teddy Rooseveldt quote about critics not counting, etc.
But when it comes to familiar topics such as cakes and Matrix sequels, go for it, criticize the director (and his Tranny co-director bro).
That being said, the two sequels didn't TOTALLY suck...the failing was in the oversimplified resolution, the "Hi, guys!" nonchalance from Neo in Reloaded when he fought the Agents, etc...plus it didn't have the "sense of wonder" the original had (which, IMO, was the best flick of '99).

Will it suck?.... prescient check.
But of course I'll go see it, especially with Jennifer Connelly and John Cleese.
(clarification: I don't mean I'll go see it *with* Jennifer Connelly and John Cleese -- they never return my calls) - sanman, on 07/05/2008, -1/+1Patricia Neal was so hot compared to this current female lead. What a total beauty she was in her time.
- noots, on 07/05/2008, -1/+2I'm not sure if it was down to keanu and his inablity to portray different people or down to how good The Matrix (1) actually is, but he is basically Neo every-time i see him.
- BeefBaron, on 07/06/2008, -1/+1Keanu Reeves has the dramatic range of a sock puppet.
- wraithscelus, on 07/06/2008, -0/+0Everyone harps on Keanu Reeves so much about his acting ability.. most of the "big hollywood actors" have about one role they know how to do and that's it. Ben Stiller: awkward situation guy. Adam Sandler: annoying idiot. Will Ferrel: quirky moron. (Granted these are all comedians, but you get the picture). They get those roles and they can do them well because that's all they know. Keanu's role happens to be the forever stupefied-sounding guy (he wasn't too bad in Thumbsucker though). It's just that he decides to take roles that illuminate his one-dimensional acting ability.
I do recognize there are great actors and actresses out there, but I don't expect to find them in roles such as these anyway. Occasionally they do make some good films, even out of their main persona.

- fabriciom, on 07/06/2008, -1/+0Keano Reeves is one of the worst actors ever. Never changes his persona. It has always been the same stupid ***** since Bill and Ted Excellent Adventures. Sad...
- davincih, on 07/04/2008, -18/+16You got it from Apple man. Why not digg them, since they have it in high-res? Just wondering.
Here, I'll help. Here's the Digg link for the ACTUAL original source of this trailer, where LatinoReview got it from. It's even in high-res here:
http://digg.com/movies/The_Day_the_Earth_Stood_Sti ...- Pusod, on 07/05/2008, -1/+4Latinoreview sucks! They're nothing but a bunch of third party content thieves! They hardly ever declare their sources, and if they do, it is from another third party website! Bunch of high school amateurs!

- tenabobina, on 07/04/2008, -1/+4Yes, yes it is...
- Charun, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6You want to see it?
Whoa - Noctem, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3Instead of wanting to see it, just try to realize that there is no movie to see in the first place.
- FDisk, on 07/04/2008, -5/+14Looks good to me.
- tenabobina, on 07/04/2008, -3/+28Klaatu barada nikto!

- alpharaptor, on 07/05/2008, -1/+1nickel, necktie it definitely an "n" word... naggers?
- SPRFRKR, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1It stopped Gort from destroying the world back then, maybe it can stop the developers from remaking a very good original.
- overtoke, on 07/05/2008, -0/+18translation: whoa
- anagoge, on 07/05/2008, -7/+14Just out of curiosity, who would best be suited to play the part that Keanu has unfortunately been given? Who has the emotional capacity to play such a part? For some reason, I think an English actor would suit this role.
- blackjack75, on 07/05/2008, -2/+4John Oliver?
- Aidje, on 07/05/2008, -1/+3I agree. How about Michael Rennie?
- dragon76, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2He was ill The Day the Earth Stood Still, but he taught us where to stand.
- twinklyJesus, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1Michael Rennie...oh,wait...
- sanman, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1Puny human, you don't understand his elevation since becoming The One, in the Matrix movies.
- Sornos, on 07/05/2008, -3/+4Could be good, but from the looks of things they replaced Gort with the big sphere cloud thing. Could be iffy.
- SpenceMasta, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3umm but didnt you see the flash of gort "classic" at the end, it sure looked like the robot from the original
- kinseyincanada, on 07/05/2008, -10/+38for ***** sake, cant we leave the classics alone?
- SHUUTOBI, on 07/05/2008, -0/+7I somewhat agree, but I think this will be a good remake...
It may also get people to see the original, if they already haven't. - pigfister, on 07/05/2008, -2/+1they are cashing in as they can't think of any original ideas anymore but what do you expect from the MPAA.
- gregcotten, on 07/05/2008, -1/+4The MPAA has nothing to do with the creative process of movie making...
- Amazetbm, on 07/05/2008, -1/+2I agree. It's like the big studios have run out of original ideas.
- DeFex, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Fox likes to rewrite history.
- jasonh1234, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Because the classics are good but they're not up to date visually with what audiences expect these days. Update the visuals so that younger generations can enjoy them. I'm all for it so long as it doesn't mess with the story. If the story needs some minor tweaking to account for technological advances since the original than I'm all for it.
- arplayer2k, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Keanu Reeves cant make a good movie. He had mainly action sequences in The Matrix, which is why it was a good first movie and a decent triology.
- SHUUTOBI, on 07/05/2008, -0/+7I somewhat agree, but I think this will be a good remake...
- thundacracka, on 07/05/2008, -3/+6I think it looks promising.

- sweetnothing, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Yeah, this is a duplicate story.
- apc3161, on 07/05/2008, -4/+9Damnit, this is one of my favorite movies of all time. Why are they going to ruin it? If you are going to remake a movie, at least stick to the original script (with a few exceptions with regard to putting it in a modern context). Changing the visual effects and stuff is fine, changing the story line is not.
- jbetancourt, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1My favorite too. One great thing about the original, was the musical score, I'm sure that will be gone too, replaced by overdone sounds; I remember the War of the Worlds remake, I couldn't tell the sound track from special effects in the movie (was that an alien spaceship sound or overly loud chord?). I hope they keep Gort as regal and beyond touch (like Galactus should have been). Where's the little boy and the Einstein character?
What next, "Forbidden Planet"?- TobiasParker, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1No, no , no , what have you done!
- LotyBoy, on 07/06/2008, -1/+1I just watched the original and it sucked big time. SLOW AS *****. You could easily cut An hour and 10 minutes off that movie and not miss it. Its like they came up with a good idea and then filmed a bunch of filler to meet time expectations. I don't see how a remake could be anything but better than the piece of crap I just sat through.

- SHUUTOBI, on 07/05/2008, -0/+10He's playing Klaatu, not Gort.

- nastronomical, on 07/05/2008, -8/+2Folks the movie has been hijacked by the Liberal Enviro Nutcases.
- PaulGriffin, on 07/05/2008, -5/+7According to Wikipedia, they've updated the story to be focused more on Humans vs Earth!
YES! I cant wait for a Star Wars remake which preaches going green for an hour and a half.- tenabobina, on 07/05/2008, -1/+4Stars wars.... green....what?
- HumanRecalled, on 07/05/2008, -7/+0man enough already we get it "THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL" REMAKE !!!

http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/thedaytheearthst ... - damndj, on 07/05/2008, -6/+4At first, I was like, "Whoah". Then I realized Keanu is in it and I was like, "Bummer man".
- Pusod, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1You were right when you said "Whoah." the first time.
- iDoraemon, on 07/05/2008, -2/+6Regardless of whether this flick will be a phenomenal film or a mediocre B-movie, it doesn't deserve to share the same name as the original "The Day The Earth Stood Still."
- pigfister, on 07/05/2008, -6/+3another ***** MPAA popcorn film that relies on CGI to woo the 13year old audience then. don't waste your cash watch the original
- Augie1969, on 07/05/2008, -4/+4I tell ya, with the way the world has been going nowadays, this might be a good movie to remake.
BTW, regardless of how ya feel about global warming, I think we can all agree with the fact that humans are ***** up the environment. - pookkake, on 07/05/2008, -2/+7Michael Rennie was ill the day the earth stood still
But he told us where we stand
And Flash Gordon was there in silver underwear
Claude Raines was the invisible man
Then something went wrong for Fay Wray and King Kong
They got caught in a celluloid jam
Then at a deadly pace it came from outer space
And this is how the message ran... - indochris609, on 07/05/2008, -3/+2To be completely honest I've seen better comments under a submitted article.
- cteuscher, on 07/05/2008, -3/+1Wow
- NeoCortex, on 07/05/2008, -3/+9You know, I probably would be willing to give this a shot if they had called it something else. This is not The Day the Earth Stood Still. The Day the Earth Stood Still is a classic of the genre that does not need to be remade.
- LSP55, on 07/05/2008, -3/+1I just love how he's finally playing a role matched to his wide range of expressions lol
Could be a cool movie but either we are being invaded or that black cloud is some sort of nano machine... - faizal5k, on 07/05/2008, -2/+1lol the guy that's warning everybody to evacuate in the beginning of the trailer sounds like Barack Obama.

:) - Pusod, on 07/05/2008, -3/+1What a conundrum!!! "If the Earth dies, YOU die... If YOU die, the Earth survives!" Hmmm... let me think about that for a minute Neo.
- pond70, on 07/05/2008, -4/+1Whoa... i know Kung-fu
- OffPiste, on 07/05/2008, -5/+1Dude, I'm from Klaatu.
- ephrils1, on 07/05/2008, -8/+1Why would you remake this movie? It's sucks. It wasn't even good in it's time. It was SO BAD they made people watch it in Mystery Science Theater 3000.
That said, I'm going to see it to see if they can make it watchable.- DeFex, on 07/05/2008, -2/+1if you can solve this riddle you can also find out why they make video games from movies, movies from video games, and remake crap tv shows in to crap movies, and let various "actors" keep being in movies when there are hundreds of others that would cost less and do a better job.
- LotyBoy, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1The original was horrible. Good basic idea. Poor execution. So many worthless, meaningless scenes, its like they took a twilight zone episode and made it into a 90 minute movie.
The remake can only be better.
- BradOFarrell, on 07/05/2008, -5/+0So Keanu is basically EVE?
- poidh, on 07/05/2008, -1/+1Latino review? A review of South American men? Wtf?
- zebragrrl, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6I started this trailer with
"Oh come'on Why the heck.. jeeze guys why the heck do you have to try and 'remake" every awesome movie ever made? What's next/ Casablanca?"
and I ended with
"hrm.. this could actually be quite good."
Surprise me Hollywood.. do it. I dare you. Earn my $8.75- bytor4232, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1This is scary. I said the same thing, and reference the same movie.
But yeah, I ended watching the trailer thinking, "wow, I think I will go see this."
However, I'm making my wife watch the original before we go.
- bytor4232, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1This is scary. I said the same thing, and reference the same movie.
- bagold51, on 07/05/2008, -5/+2This movie will SUCK big time. I wish they would leave the classics alone. Keanu Reeves is a worthless actor who should not have been given this part. He cannot act worth a damn.
The original movie is a classic for all time and will remain my all time favorite scifi movie. - Ansem, on 07/05/2008, -5/+1This looks aweful. Looks nothing like the original. Basically a completely different movie using that name.
Completely horrible. - GerudoX, on 07/05/2008, -5/+1Finally, Keanu has a use for his vapid blank face stare....be an alien.
- redxii, on 07/05/2008, -3/+2looks more like War of the Worlds III: Those Alien Bastards Just Won't Leave Us Alone
- RRJackson, on 07/05/2008, -1/+6Heh...for the sake of high nerdery I just dug out my April 1978 issue of Fantastic Films to an article called 'The Language Of Klaatu.' The author, Tauna Le Marbe, traces the language used in The Day the Earth Stood Still to a number of possible root languages and attempts to decipher meanings.
"Gort from Vorenus" is apparently a Latin proper name associated with a Roman Centurian.
Here is Le Marbe's analysis of the message to Gort.
Phonetic Sounds Word Origins Literal Translation
KLA-TOO Bar-a-da KLAATU BARADA Stop Barbarism (I have)
NiK-Toe NECTO death, bind
The free translation given was "I die, repair me, do not retaliate."
Here are the explanations of the translated words.
barada- (latin) stop barbarism, (you)
Klaatu- (Intercept) 'Harryb', Harry Bates, writer of "Farewell to the Master" (Anglo-Saxon) Commander (Code) harry (obsolete) to agitate to worry, to make a predatory incursion.
Necto- (latin) necto-atus, death, kill, slay (French) necto, to bind, entwine (Phonetic Transposition Code) (plain text) bring back to life.- jasonh1234, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4Dude just OWNING a 1978 issue of Fantastic Films is high nerdery on it's own. You could've left it on the shelf and accomplished the same result. I don't even want to know how you found the issue you were looking for.
- RRJackson, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2I guess I'd better not explain my intricate filing and storage system. Don't want anyone to get the idea that I'm a nerd. BTW, I bought that thing off the stand in 1978. ;-)
- jpowell180, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1"................Maybe I didn't say the EXACT words, but basicaly I said 'em, yeah!"
Maybe this film would be better if they threw an army of Deadites in it? ;)
- jasonh1234, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4Dude just OWNING a 1978 issue of Fantastic Films is high nerdery on it's own. You could've left it on the shelf and accomplished the same result. I don't even want to know how you found the issue you were looking for.
- BaconIsGood4You, on 07/05/2008, -5/+0Oh God no...
Why would they do this to one of the greatest science fiction movies ever made. One of the few ones that has stood the test of time! And how could they replace the Christ allegory with some environmentalist crap (If the Earth dies, you die. If you die, the Earth lives). ***** THE EARTH. The movie was about the emerging Cold War and threat of human self-immolation. Klaatu was attempting to save man from the madness of MAD (mutual assured destruction) and states, not the Earth from man. I am pissed. First Pixar does a crappy environmentalist propagande flick and now they want to ruin one of my favorite movies.- LotyBoy, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1You don't understand that if the earth dies we die too. Its the same exact idea. A warning about being responsible for our own actions. About making changes and preventing the end of our species. Throw in the threat of Humans colonizing other planets and you basically have the exact same plot. Aliens coming to earth to stop us from endangering their planet with our stupid ways.
- TomJohn, on 07/05/2008, -3/+2Has no one realized yet that Keanu Reeves can't act his way out of a paper bag??
- nelwan, on 07/05/2008, -1/+3Keanu Reeves won me over from Constantine. Not saying that it was the best acting, but it is certainly one of my favorite movies.
- jasonh1234, on 07/05/2008, -1/+5I don't get why everyone has such a hate-on for Keannu. He seems to be one of those people that people love to hate.
- RoyaleCheese, on 07/05/2008, -3/+1Whoa, for a minute there at the beginning, I thought I was watching the trailer for I AM LEGEND.
