- compu73rg33k, on 03/14/2008, -11/+12Yeah, and then rethink your view if you're "for" the war. It's really atrocious what these bastard politicians have convinced the American public of, and then how they've taken that approval and committed one of the worst holocausts since the Holocaust. "Proud to be an American" ? I'm definitely not proud of what our country has done in the past 8 years...
- fotbr, on 03/14/2008, -8/+16The ***** in iraq, while bad, is no where near a holocaust, and you're absolutely off your rocker if you think its comparable to throwing people in gas chambers hundreds at a time.
- BESTenemy, on 03/14/2008, -1/+1Yep. As long as we're 1 man short of Hitler's murder list, we're better than him and can continue doing what we're doing.
By the way, Iraq is far from the only country we have inavded in the last 50 years. We've been at war non stop. We've been killing continuously. The only difference between Hitler and us is that his regime went under along with him. Ours is pretty much alive and well. We're not stopping any time soon, cause we've got the biggest guns, corrupt with power and don't have to answer to anyone.
- BESTenemy, on 03/14/2008, -1/+1Yep. As long as we're 1 man short of Hitler's murder list, we're better than him and can continue doing what we're doing.
- skunkman62, on 03/14/2008, -5/+13"worst holocausts since the Holocaust" -- Darfur, Bosnia , Cambodia. dude learn some history. posting some idiotic statement only make you lose credibility.
- GawtMilk, on 03/14/2008, -2/+1I know it's just repeating, but still. How many innocent civilians do you think America has tortured? Somewhere in the hundreds? How many innocent civilians have the Americans tortured and killed? In the dozens? That's equivalent to what, a couple of minutes at a concentration camp?
Did you even watch the video? At 5:40, the soldier says, "Abu Ghraib also had the infamous torture chambers and stuff left from Saddam's era, I remember walking through those and seeing like fingernail marks on the walls, bloodstains, guillotines; it was pretty surreal".
I mean, the American soldiers are doing some terrible stuff in this war, but it just doesn't stack up to the Holocaust or Saddam's regime. The man this documentary is about was identified erroneously as a terrorist, and he died of a heart attack during "enhanced interrogation" [torture]. That is not even remotely comparable to killing millions of people based on a religion, physical status or nationality.
America, despite all these awful incidents, is still fighting the war rather humanely in a historic sense. The difference is that the American media has the freedom to report about these infamous events, such as Abu Gharib. An example of what I mean is that the famous "Massacre" from Vietnam was the My Lai massacre, in which 504 civilians were killed. Iraq's famous massacre was in Haditha, which saw 27 people killed and saw an equal amount of outrage.
While I wholeheartedly believe that America shouldn't be in Iraq or Afghanistan, but let's look at it objectively : the War on Terror is not as bad as critics make it out to be.- Yatata, on 03/14/2008, -1/+2
be very careful of downward social comparison. war crimes are war crimes no matter how many bodies stack up. - nycmac247, on 03/14/2008, -1/+2GawtMilk

- Member148, on 03/13/2008, -38/+8It can if free nations don't come to grips a defeat terrorism. In order to defeat crime of any kind you must make the offender so terrified of the consequences that he never contemplates the deed. So far we haven't terrified the terrorist. Why? Because the nations that harbor them have cohorts and as long a that nation remains passive against those cohorts, there is no incentive for the terrorist to fear reprisal. Unless these nations put aside their stupidity, terrorism will go on for decades. Nations have to decide if they want peace and improve world conditions, or if they want to live eternally with war and the treat of war within their nations.
- ssn697, on 03/13/2008, -4/+15Is it your contention that we should abandon all of our principles? We need to be WORSE than everyone else to succeed in being a free and just country?
- mradules, on 03/13/2008, -4/+6We don't need to scare them, we need to ignore them. The goal of terrorism is not just to kill, but more importantly to instill fear. Though it may seem implausible, if Western countries were to stop reacting to terrorism by cracking down on freedom, the terrorists will have failed. The catch is that fear-mongering works in US politics, at least to the extent that dominates the headlines. Still, it's been good to see candidates like Obama and Kucinich, who don't feel the need to mention 9/11 in every sentence (*ahem* Giuliani).
- zephc, on 03/14/2008, -2/+1Pretty much. Terrorism is used as a tool to direct policy. If you know doing something violent will cause massive upheaval in a certain direction, and you think the ends will justify the means (if you're that sort of person) then you do it. It was blindingly obvious that a terrorist attack on the scale of 9/11's would push this country into an authoritarian abyss. I am actually surprised that my guess on 9/11 of a push for martial law was never formally declared (though the practice of it has been implemented to an extent)
- RepubOperative, on 03/14/2008, -5/+1Yea....right on! Fight the power! I remember being picked up and tortured...its happened several times, just last year. Fight the power!
If you need a sarcasm tag you are a stupid *****.
- Mikidogo, on 03/14/2008, -2/+9You cannot terrify someone who is prepared to die for their cause.
- RepubOperative, on 03/14/2008, -5/+1For those I suggest killing them.
- janrito, on 03/14/2008, -3/+9That is complete and utter *****. Terrorism exists because the of the conditions that people are forced to live in. Fundamentalists will always exist but they will not find an audience in people who live dignified lives. The only way to fight terrorism is to improve the standard of living.
Scaring people ***** is what got us into this situation. People need to have a life worth living. - source1984, on 03/14/2008, -2/+1What if the terrorists believe that killing them will only be better for themselves? Your argument for an endless war isn't too good. Mainly because people will keep dying and no solution will be found. You have to attack the problem at the root. As a muslim, I can say that the U.S. should so show a more Muslim-friendly policy where they promote moderate Muslim leaders (and by that I don't mean lesbian "Muslim" Islam-bashers or extremely liberal muslims who are not connected to the general population). Tariq Ramadan tries to enter U.S., to teach at Notre Dame -- the U.S. says NO, and doesn't allow him entry. Another move to end this war, be more fair in the Israel conflict. THAT is the ROOT cause. If terrorism had a tree, the biggest damn root that is all popping out of the ground, bursting through sidewalks would be Israel. There are war-crimes going on in Israel and the U.S. is supporting it.
- source1984, on 03/14/2008, -1/+1I'd like to add, by Muslim-friendly I don't mean bending over backwards or catering like is done to Israel. I mean just generally friendly diplomatic relations. The only friendly relations are with Muslim dictators (Egypt, Saudi, Jordan).
- Bertu, on 03/18/2008, -0/+0Egypt is actually a Republic, Jordan is a Constitutional Monarchy, and Saudi is an Absolute Monarchy, but I get your point. Pro-US arabian gov'ts are without exception, NOT "democratic".

Read that book by Chomsky and perhaps you will understand what's going on. - egoherodotus, on 03/14/2008, -1/+3Has anyone ever asked why terrorism exists in the first place? Have you ever asked if it is a reaction, and not just an action?
- Yatata, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2thank you thank you thank you
every time i ask that same basic rational question i get dugg down for some reason, i can't figure out why - are people too afraid to go there? it would be the logical first question after being punched in the face out of the blue - "why did you hit me??"
it seems basic logic was bypassed in favor of the angry hive approach. the rational fore-brain shut down in the face of fear and the bully went on a rampage around the schoolyard.
to find out the real reasons for terrorism (FYI it's not your "freedom") download the Democracy Now podcast for monday march 3rd 08; the last half of the show sheds some light. - Yatata, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2even better - the whole thing on youtube:

More importantly, if you ever wondered where the Administration got its source for the Iraq/Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda link follow the story of Ibn al-Shaykh al-Libi... he's the one that stated the connection while under the hands of the CIA; hands of torture... [~01:02:00 -- several mins]

- 619gamester, on 03/14/2008, -6/+0I'm not going to talk, because most of us have not been in any war. Lets face it, war is war. And if you think the military is going to act like gentlemen, you are greatly mistaken.
- ZenMojo, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2No need to give new terrorists a reasonable and valid excuse to start attacking us some more.
- methylamine, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1Thug. Complicit war criminal. Go to the front and enjoy; I hear AK-47's hurt a lot despite their inaccuracy.
- tnatharik, on 03/14/2008, -1/+2Its because of the taxi dirvers death that lead to all this.
- Garmonbozzia, on 03/14/2008, -2/+1Watch this and you'll end up in one of Creedy's black bags for sure!
- ophello, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1V for Vendetta reference?
- replaysMike, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2ok I retract from my previous comment - this is a good video and I recommend watching it.
- if0t, on 03/14/2008, -2/+1Watching this was eye-opening for anyone who has been trained in interviewing and interrogation. In interweb terms, these cats were "noobz" who had no clue, but were anxious in pleasing higher ups. Those (old -skool) ppl mentioned about how torture doesn't work (effectively) were correct. Sadly no one listens (until it's "old news"). Next Iran, simply stunning.

- sk33lz, on 03/14/2008, -1/+2I see history repeating itself here :/ Man, if there is an election this year it will be shocking...
- anizzle, on 03/14/2008, -2/+1What is the difference between this and the "official" documentary. rottentomatoes.com has the film's run time at 1:45 or so whereas this runs for 1:18?
- aspen, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2The version in the digg and on mininova is the tv rip from the 'why democracy' series of documentaries. Presumably it was edited for time constraints and possibly for content. I've only seen the version linked so I can't say what the other 30 minutes contain. As far as I know there is no dvd-rip or cam out as of yet.
- baras, on 03/14/2008, -1/+1This is a very good film. I know that I'm going to have my family watch it.
- Vash3001, on 03/14/2008, -2/+2Wow digg, you guys will bury anyone whom you disagree with. How bout you grow up and learn to accept others opinions. Seriously i have never seen a group of people who are filled with so much hate as the digg populous. Get a life.
I know i'm gonna get dugg down. Its nothing new for me. I usually get dugg down in ever topic i post in, because i lean to a different side then liberal digg. We get it dig you love obama, hate America, and despise religion of any kind.- nycmac247, on 03/14/2008, -0/+4yes, but have you seen the movie?

- nycmac247, on 03/14/2008, -0/+4yes, but have you seen the movie?
- diggpeter, on 03/14/2008, -6/+0Terrible that a poppy farmer got killed. These people are drug growing animals. They deserve anything that comes to their door. I thourougly enjoyed that.
- Myztry, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2Off course that has nothing to do with the world largest illegal drug consuming nation...
Demand causes supply. Not that other way around.- nycmac247, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1or the fact that they will be killed and/or starve to death if they do not grow

- Xh42, on 03/16/2008, -1/+0First, note that below are just my comments, may mean absolutely nothing, but here goes. (And I truly feel sorry for the people that lost their rights during the interrogation)
Very Interesting Article. However, as someone watching this film from outside of US, it seems like whoever uploaded this file wants John McCain to have the edge comes to the election, this film was aired from 2007. So it sure seems odd that this will be brought up again, as though as it is going to be used to clean up John McCain's name when the Election comes. I think the Republic will have the edge now if these kind of things keeps up.- dkmooninite, on 03/16/2008, -0/+1Did you miss the part where McCain signed pro-torture legislature, even though he opposes it, after pressure from the Bush White House. I don't think it advocates John McCain in any way or form. His story is was simply unique and relevant, as he played a key role in the hearing of Gonzales and company. There's two sides to every story. Please take off your damn tinfoil hat.
