- Nickerz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13after I saw the word illegally about 15 times just scanning, I think it is quiet apparent they are trying to build buzz on the movie completely on the basis it was shot illegally. WOOPTIE DO. He shot it without a permit, just like every other independent film on earth.
- uppedbyhiggins, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5The trailer is pretty bad. He keeps talking about how much sound work he did, which comes off as decent, but the images are horrible. I'm assuming he's using MiniDV...which really doesn't handle darkness very well. It sort of looks all types of terrible. I'm just being picky...there's a whole slew of things that anyone could probably rip this film apart for. But hey, at least he finished it.
- defact0, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I checked out the website, and the trailer is a little disappointing, but the guy's creativity in getting it done is inspiring.
- jarlacher, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I'm the director. The trailer was made with production sound and uncorrected colers to raise cash when we were shooting. Check out "goliath emerges" on the site or our myspace to see and hear finished work.
Finished trailers are for failers! - cycledesign, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Hey director. I was kinda mean in my other comment and I'd just like to let you know I was kinda overboard with that. Assuming there's no talent just from the trailer is unreasonable. However, I agree with uppedbyhiggins. So... keep at it.
- cycledesign, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Not that his efforts aren't inspiring, but his trailer is really terrible. If you're going to lack funds, you'd better have talent to back it up. So that's where his story differs from Rodriguez's.
- bisbeethedog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Johnny Appleseed does, that's who.
- LordSkywalker, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Damn. I checked out the trailer too and I've gotta say, that looks seriously ghetto. I think this guy should've researched composition and cinematography in general. With all the fuss about how great the sound was, it sounded pretty echo-y and distant. And did he forget to get someone to light the set?
- Platysquirrel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3NO *****
- muffins, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3DOUBLE POST
- spvaland, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2My favorite part of the preview was the great shot of the "Media Offline." The white text on red background had the highest production value of the whole thing, in my opinion.
- jarlacher, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm the director. The trailer was one of the first things we cut together to raise money while shooting and has production sound and original colors. We never cut a proper trailer. Kind of stupid.
You could see 'the "goliath emerges" clip on the site to see fin shed stuff. But yeah, it's pixelated at points, and there's other flaws, but I'm happy as a whole. - jarlacher, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1As penance you must make me a cycle.
- muffins, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Looks bad.
- zenlunatic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Anyone see the clip "Goliath emerges"? Who stands around an empty subway eating apples?
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1The goliath emerges clip LOOKS better, but the acting is not very good. You can't completely blame the director for that I suppose.
Good effort. The premise of the movie seemed interesting, kid goes through the reverse hero's journey or something; great. But I have to say, it looks like it turned into home alone when the kid whips out the super soaker (maybe not the spiked gauntlet, but still). - gilgsn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You guys should check this forum: http://www.guerillafilmforum.com it's articles and tips on making guerilla films... same person - jarlacher, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I talk to myself, but i don't type to myself.
- REAL6, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0damn i wanna see it now... hahhahahaa. anyone know how the music or sound is in it?
- kriminalintent, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Odd trailer, Seems cheap. OH WAIT it is.
- MiloMindrbindr, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2dugg down, this story belongs in the Who Gives A *****? section.
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -1/+1Also, in the defense of Harry Potter; he never really trusts people; his distrust in Dumbledore is apparent in book 7. I will concede however that while I like the books, I don't like the character much.
- goolash, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0They changed the trailers on the site, Now there's what I think are clips of the movie but I can't really tell what it's about. There's a flying laptop and a guy who controls it with an Atari 2600 joystick. Seems like they made it with things they have lying around, but the effects are decent. I'd give it a rent.
- zimmaman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I think it looks pretty pro, .
- goolash, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I just saw it. For $12,000, very great.
- zimmaman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I think the clips look pretty pro.
- muffins, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Looks bad.
- kd5ftn, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Looks and sounds rather amateur. Making films on the cheap is one thing - a total disregard for production value is another. How did this story receive any attention?
- DeadlySin, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1I stopped reading at this point:
Now, after making your movie illegally, you’re seeing your movie available online illegally. Do you find any irony in that?
Every piece of intellectual property is available online for free. We made “Urchin” the way we did because it was the only way we could. Also, I don’t know what irony means.
