Sweded Tron Is Probably Best Sweded Movie Ever
gizmodo.com — While it's not the entire movie, this sweded lightcycle scene from Tron, every computer geek's favorite movie this side of War Games, has to be the best sweded version of a film in the entire history of sweded films. It may not be as funny as the sweded BigDog quadruped robot or sweded Star Wars, but its cardboardness is flawless.

- maxthreepwood, on 03/28/2008, -2/+22amazing work. I love the way they faked the reflections on the bikes and pilots by just passing quickly a white stick in front of the camera. Great stuff.

Also, buried for being another of Gawker Media's sites (like Kotaku, LifeHacker, I09, and 15 others) which are known to spam Digg and pay their submitters for it. On some days, no less than 6 of their sites are on the front page. And they steal their content. In fact, right now there are 5 stories on the front page from their spam sites.
They're also the c*ck-knockers who screwed with everyone during CES and got booted for life.- cadmiumpaint, on 03/28/2008, -14/+5how ironic that you accuse someone of spam, when i've seen this EXACT message posted on other threads. Buried because you're SPAMing entertaining threads.
- bingobongony, on 03/28/2008, -7/+5Obviously you don't understand what SPAM is. Pointing out other people abusing Digg is not SPAM no matter how many times he posts the same comment.
- cadmiumpaint, on 03/28/2008, -4/+2i understand what spam is. its annoying unwanted stuff. The thread is entertaining to quite a few people. It made it to the front page so its pretty popular. It logically cannot be spam if it is liked and appreciated. sorry it didn't have "indie street cred" and couldn't be posted from some obscure blog that will crash after 3 people view it. no one is abusing digg except for elitist idiots who think they own it.
- bingobongony, on 03/28/2008, -3/+6No, it isn't. Thanks for proving my point. SPAM is trying to make a profit off a post, or e-mail, etc.
You also proved that you don't understand Digg. You have to be a COMPLETE ***** idiot (are you?) to think that things make it to the front page through people comng to the site, checking out hte link, deciding that it is digg worthy, and digging it.
The whole ***** POINT point of the comment (if you have ANY reading comprehension) is that these sites are CHEATING the alogrithm. They hire people to submit, and hire people to DIGG the stories to the front page.
THAT is Spam. - cadmiumpaint, on 03/28/2008, -3/+2calm down internet tough guy. why are you getting so worked up over digg? why does it matter to you so much? you realize NOTHING on this site really matters don't you? it only exists to help people waste time and be entertained. you know there's more to life than whats on a computer screen right? get out of you're mommy's basement...meet a girl or something. above all, get over it.
you need help. you take the internet WAAAAY too seriously.
- Trilock, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2I would much rather put up with gawker media spam bull ***** than people who make such a big ***** deal out of it!

- SRSco, on 03/28/2008, -4/+9Wow. Do people still care about that CES thing? That was funny.
But anyway, about your whole whining and whingeing over Gawker like a little bitch: why don't you do a reality check? What is wrong with a blog submitting links to Digg? That's not spamming. That's leveraging social media for the purpose of social media: share content. And what is wrong with blogs summarizing content from other sources? Not every who browses the internet is into Digg and Reddit. Blogs become many people's browsing clearinghouses where they find out about content. Should people stop blogging now? Should blogs that pay their writers give up? I don't get your point. If something makes it to the front page, it was because people liked it. It's not that hard to bypass the "Gawker spam" and get to the original content. You really need to stop complaining. - Wandel, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2Buried for "Buried for Gizmodo/Gawker Media spam" spam.

- corneliusJones, on 03/28/2008, -2/+2be kind rewind
- lcarsdeveloper, on 03/28/2008, -0/+8From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweded#.22Sweding.22
"Sweding" (From "Be Kind Rewind")
The process of Mike and Jerry's efforts to recreate their erased videos is described as sweding in the film. The tapes are described as having come from Sweden as an excuse for higher rental fees and longer wait times.
In light of the theme of sweding, director Michel Gondry swedes a version of the trailer of the film, starring Gondry himself. On the official website, users can engage in sweding, which puts their faces on the VHS cover of a movie. The Be Kind Rewind YouTube minisite also encourages filmmakers to swede their own versions of popular movies. - dougmc, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2Looks like it was made up for the movie that lcarsdeveloper pulled up the wikipedia page for.
And then, as a probably brilliant bit of advertising, they encourage (pay?) some people to `swede' movies and post them to sites like youtube, and then submit them to digg, and then everybody asks what `sweding' is because nobody had ever heard of it before, and people google for it, find out about the movie, and a few go `hmm, I should see that!' And if the movies `sweded' like this are good (and I'd say this Tron one is) then others will want to do it too, and they've created yet another Internet meme -- and pushed their movie at the same time. Adventures in marketing!
The word doesn't appear to be in common usage -- searching Usenet found only two uses of it in this way, the first in Dec 2007 -- and that one mentions "Be Kind Rewind", so it's pretty obvious it's brand new. (Usenet searches are good for that, because every post has an exact date so you can see when terms started being used.)

- aresgunther, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2The sweded BigDog quadruped robot is just as ***** scary as the original.
- schmitey, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Oh my gods! That's the funniest stuff I've seen in a LONG time. The hubcap for the Millenium Falcon took the cake, that and everyone running around in their fighters while they were falling apart. Classic!
- cadmiumpaint, on 03/28/2008, -6/+3oh geez. looks like another viral trend that will become ridiculous. where is the creativity in this? people should create their own stories instead of relying on proven pop culture icons to rip off and pretend that they are"creative"
- johnroth, on 03/28/2008, -1/+6GIT TO THA CHOPPAAAAAAAAA!
- Gnasche, on 03/28/2008, -1/+1Lots of people do make original stuff. The audience determines what is popular, and stuff like this has a lot more potential for that because the audience has familiarity with the material. How many viewings does "My original low-budget sci-fi film" get? Not as many. I don't think anyone is "pretending that they are creative". It's visual satire. It needs another source for material. If they were pretending to be creative they wouldn't have called it "Tron".
- cadmiumpaint, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3I think satire and parody are completely overused and stretched these days. there is no satire here. Satire, by definition makes criticism through comedic means. They are just re-shooting a scene in a low budget way. I suppose if you want to get all film school you could maintain that they are proving the integrity of the strong story line and writing by reducing the visuals to its most simplistic and crudest form. But i doubt thats the rationale. A bunch of people saw be kind rewind, and said "hey i can do that". Its a bit copycat with no thought behind it. no commentary. nothing new.
If you are going to parody or satire something make it different. Robot Chicken for example takes well known visual icons and pop culture references and creates something new out of it. This stuff here is just lazy low budget rip offs. - Trilock, on 03/28/2008, -1/+1why dont you swede a movie then, then tell me how uncreative the process is, i appreciate their hard work a hole
- cadmiumpaint, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1i don't have that kind of time to waste. why are you taking my opinion personally?
- Trilock, on 03/28/2008, -1/+0look all I'm saying is that why criticize them for entertaining the masses for free.. are they wasting our Internet space?
- cadmiumpaint, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1point taken. i just don't see the point in what they are doing or in this new fad. but within 6 months it will be over anyways so its kinda moot.
- cadmiumpaint, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1i don't have that kind of time to waste. why are you taking my opinion personally?

- employeeno5, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2I think you all need a better understanding "post-modern". You don't need to like it, but if you don't understand the nature and place of imitation, satire and self-reference in modern society than you don't understand the past 20-30 years of art.
- employeeno5, on 03/28/2008, -1/+1Eh, really I'm just being snobby jerk, but I also think you have allot to learn if you don't think these films are creative. I understand if your personal opinion is that their efforts could be better spent on something less derivative, and I might even be inclined to agree, but to say that they're no being creative or what they've done isn't art is just nonsense.
- Trilock, on 03/28/2008, -0/+0thats what I said like a post above this one also.. *hands you a "t"*

- willynilly, on 03/28/2008, -7/+3"Sweded"? Come on, don't fill the language with *****. If it's the name of a group, capitalize it, no problem. But "sweded" doesn't mean anything.
- Rizmaster, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2Yes it does. Sweded is a term coined by the film Be Kind Rewind to describe no budget remakes of famous movies. Don't be tarded.
- willynilly, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3Oh, and we're back to the "after the jump" ***** too.
"After the jump" = STUPID AND MEANINGLESS.- johnroth, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1I agree. "See my butthole filled with whipped cream after the jump!"

Huge - allfatherblack, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2That light cycle scene gives me wood, cardboard or not. Also, does George Lucas know that theyve posted his movie on their website? Thats gotta be some kind of copyright infringement. Its still against the law to infringe crap right?
Like if I take a picture of your turd then sell it on eBay thats still not okay right?
What Im inferring is that Star Wars sucks. - AnotherBrian, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1I noticed the Recognizer model is from this site http://www.phoxim.de/marco_scheloske_regocnizer/ma ...

- Rizmaster, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Be Kind Rewind, *****.
- Trilock, on 03/28/2008, -0/+0when is some one gonna make a sweded version of be kind rewind?

- JGalaxy76, on 03/28/2008, -0/+0@Cryoniq: What? The term "Sweded" comes from the movie Be Kind Rewind". Here's a reason why he chose Sweden as a country and not France, taken from the Be kind rewind wiki entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Be_Kind_Rewind
"The tapes are described as having come from Sweden as an excuse for higher rental fees and longer wait times."
And although Sweden and France are pretty close to each other geographically, he (Gondry) probably chose Sweden because its sounds more remote to most ppl then France does.
I also live in sweden and was wondering where this term came from :)
@Trilock: There is a sweded version of Be Kind Rewind, at least as a trailer:
