- HappyScrappy, on 10/26/2007, -1/+76Thank God for small favors.
- ScornForSega, on 10/25/2007, -2/+47Time to give Kevin Smith a call?
- jasonnazar, on 10/26/2007, -0/+38GOOD! this movie was such a let down, such an opportunity and they just blew it. I hope they totally revamp the crew that did the last one and salvage this series for those of us who waited ten years for it to resurrected.
- hoopadoo, on 10/26/2007, -0/+25This doesn't break my heart... while I appreciated some of the attempts these writers did to pay tribute to the original two Superman films, they just didn't do enough to fall in line with the story line. (And yes, I am cutting Superman 3 and 4 OUT of the story line!)
- Drahkar, on 10/23/2007, -1/+21No kidding. I didn't even realize Superman Returns had writers seeing as it's almost a duplicate of Superman one with a few changes slapped on it.
- quickslvr1287, on 10/23/2007, -0/+14Superman Returns was such a disappointment. At least I have The Dark Knight to look forward to.
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/23/2007, -0/+13for those who've missed it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgYhLIThTvk
- Hermitwise, on 10/23/2007, -1/+13If he did it I bet there would be a giant spider just out of spite.
- TedTschopp, on 10/26/2007, -0/+12This means the movie has a chance of not sucking.
Small chance, but still, now there is room for hope. - Dumbledorito, on 10/23/2007, -1/+13You liked Superman being a deadbeat dad, not getting to actually fight anyone, and Lex doing yet ANOTHER real estate scheme?
- shootdashit, on 10/23/2007, -0/+11they should allow fans to contribute to a superman story. i can't believe those two wrote such a crummy film. and now we're left with new writers and a possible new director to try to deal with superman's kid. *****.
- drizzlelicious, on 10/23/2007, -0/+10Does this mean Superman will actually do some fighting this time?
- ahoyhoy, on 10/23/2007, -0/+9Superman Returns II: The Search for More Money
- Vzylexy, on 10/26/2007, -3/+12Good riddance. Those numbskulls couldn't write their way out of a paper bag.
- Fanrir, on 10/23/2007, -1/+8...Best 20 minutes of my LIFE....God I'm dumb.
- Drahkar, on 10/23/2007, -0/+6Exactly. The whole show gave me a headache. It was like they couldn't come up with anything new so they used the same basic plot from Superman: The Movie (ie, we are going to destroy a large area of land in the US to generate new land we can sell and get rich off of. MWahaha.) Sure they changed how, but the basic premise is exactly the same. And lets not forget the absolutely horrible job that was done casting Louis Lane. Just yuck.
- mercano, on 10/22/2007, -0/+6Singer directed the first two X-Men movies, which were both great. He didn't do X3 because he was working on Superman. I'll alway wonder if we could have gotten allot better Phoenix story if it hadn't been for the Man of Steel.
- LudovicNoir, on 10/22/2007, -0/+6Its entirely possible that the producers, director and execs tinkered with the script until it was a piece of crap...then the writers always get blamed for bad writing. The fact that they have opted not to write the next one convinces me this is the case. It happens on a lot of movies. Kevin Smith's experiences in the early superman stages also confirm this. Don't blame the writers, Hollywood treats them like ***** then they get the blame if the movie sucks.
- tbenathan, on 10/22/2007, -1/+7I liked a lot about Superman Returns. Routh was pretty good as Superman, the set designs were spectacular, and the few action scenes, like the Shuttle incident, were amazing.
But Kate Bosworth was the worst casting I've ever seen in all my years watching movies. A 24 year old with scraggy thin, fake brown hair playing a many year veteran, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist regarded as one of the world's most beautiful women? I don't think so.
And worse than that, the entire second half of the movie was pathetic. Superman lifting a continent of kryptonite? Please. New writers could do nothing but help. - nizam, on 10/22/2007, -0/+5imo Superman needs to start from the beginning to revitalize the series, just as Batman Begins did for Batman. I didn't really like the super-child thing.
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/23/2007, -0/+5One of my biggest irritations with the movie was the one-liners that they ripped off from Superman: The Movie.
Yeah, we get it. This movie is the sequel to the Donner films. That message came across with all the subtlety of a 2x4 to the side of the head. - adoggz, on 10/23/2007, -0/+5wait, there was a superman 4?
- ChrisWhatever, on 10/22/2007, -0/+5I wonder if they even know what Superman is about...check this *****:
Superman hovers above the earth listening in on all the crap that happens all over the world, genocide, ethnical cleansing, rape camps, war, every crime you could think of and more and the ***** decides to stop a bank robbery in an american city...WTF??? - HappyScrappy, on 10/23/2007, -0/+5Superman and Cyclops had great chemistry. No joke. The two actors worked very naturally and well together.
But when either tried to interact with Lois it was a complete disaster. It was impossible to believe either of them ever loved her at any point.
Spacey was suck most of the time too. Half over the top, half phoned in. - inactive, on 10/23/2007, -0/+4I was disappointed when I found out the movie wasn't going to be Clark's transformation into a real-deal Superman.
- inactive, on 10/22/2007, -0/+4I see your schwartz is as big as mine!
- punchinelli, on 11/14/2007, -0/+4Good! I don't want them back. The worst possible situation happened: Bryan Singer left for Superman instead of X-Men 3, and both movies turned out sucking because of it. Ugh.
- hansk, on 10/22/2007, -0/+4there were actual writers for superman? i thought they just dusted off a copy of the original, then asked a bus load of ppl suffering from downs syndrome to mark it up with crayon.
- HyperDav, on 10/23/2007, -0/+3Did anyone else see Superman: Doomsday? Iin the first 20 minutes or so it features a Giant Spider that the toy man is riding in. Hilarious!
- supermanred, on 10/22/2007, -0/+3Superman is relevant in any time. The movie wasn't that great, but the whole point of the movie was his return to a world where he had become irrelevant. Im sure the next one will have tons of fights.
- inactive, on 10/23/2007, -0/+3The story sucked, the acting sucked, the lead can play the construction guy if they ever make a Village People movie, and if taking an iconic character and dragging him through ***** like this doesn't piss you off, well I don't know what to tell you. I'm glad I stole it off the internet instead of spending money on it.
- Jibberwalk, on 10/22/2007, -0/+3I completely agree. Smallville is a surprisingly good series for being on the CW. When I went and saw Returns in theatres... I couldn't help but think how the movie would have been had they had Tom Welling and the writers of Smallville involved.
- Zarchon, on 10/23/2007, -3/+5Supermaqn Returns was so poorly writen. I concur with yousir.
- Veritate, on 10/22/2007, -0/+2X2 had some of the best scenes I've ever seen in a superhero movie, including a great demo of the power Nightcrawler has (which might not be so obvious from just hearing "teleport") and Wolvie's rampage in the mansion (even casual fans know the essence of Wolverine is violence). I saw only the last bit of SR, so I'm trusting it sucked overall. Still, that's no reason to write Singer off.
- hiikeeba, on 10/22/2007, -0/+2Good. Maybe Singer will leave too.
- alexanEmpire, on 10/22/2007, -1/+3WRRRRROOOOOOOOOOONG!
http://lexluthor.ytmnd.com - frombeyond, on 10/22/2007, -0/+2I think its more like they were forced out and are saying that therye opting out. Good riddance.
Now the next one that needs to go is Bryan Singer. Maybe his directing wasnt bad, but he was in on the boring story too and he's the one that cast Spacey, that thin unsexy girl that played Lois, and the annoying Parker Posey, which were all bad imo. Routh was good, and its too bad he got stuck with such a bad story, but I think it might be better if they just start completely fresh and have no connection to SR at all, and I dont see how they can do that if he comes back.
In short, they need to make an action movie next time, and not a soap opera. - Dumbledorito, on 10/23/2007, -1/+3"Hey, I have an idea. Forget Lexcorp or making Luthor an actual threat, let's have him come up with a plan to make a super-continent out of unusable Kryptonian rock-crystals. Wait, it gets better. Somehow, five crooks will keep people off of this place, so they'll have to buy land there from him. Wait, there's more! It'll engulf the richest countries on Earth, leaving only the third world to buy his land somehow. And best of all, It's a land made out of whatever you tie to the Kryptonian crystal, so he'll put Kryptonite in there to defeat Superman and completely leave out precious metals, maybe some oil or fertile dirt or anything else that might make sense.
Oh, and Superman solves every problem by lifting something.
And he super-raped Lois and has an illegitimate kid. This'll be AWESOME!" - Nocturnal, on 10/22/2007, -2/+4They should get the guys who write the Smallville script to write the movie. They do alright in my eyes. Singer is meh.
- oldhick, on 10/23/2007, -1/+3Lol. I couldn't have put it better myself!
- Veritate, on 10/22/2007, -0/+2Batman was doomed as a campy, obsolete hero in the 70's and early 80's before Dark Knight Returns. All Superman needs is someone to reinvent him in a story of merit.
- ZenMojo, on 10/23/2007, -0/+2I wonder how hard it was for Bryan Singer to direct with his tongue caught in Richard Donner's zipper. And was there room when one of each of the writers' hands was sharing space in those trousers?
- SaintStryfe, on 10/22/2007, -0/+2Superman is in no way played out. There will always be orphans (last son of Krypton), there will always be a need for heroes.
- BlindingEdge, on 10/23/2007, -0/+2you mean a Thanagarian Snare Beast? lol.
- haydesigner, on 10/23/2007, -0/+2No. It was just not an entertaining or interesting story. That simple.
- hockey, on 10/23/2007, -1/+3Hey can I be cool if I flame the last Superman movie too (after all, anything mainstream on Digg HAS to be flamed)
Superman returns = flamed
Transformers = flamed
Spiderman 3 = flamed
Do these movies based on comic books and cartoons just not have enough depth for you guys' sophisticated taste's or something?
Personally I found them all to be enjoyable flicks. Before you flame me for my PERSONAL OPINION please remember these are movies based on comic books and cartoon's from the 80's. - markgl, on 10/22/2007, -0/+2they turned superman into a wuss. the new superman movie had no fighting, no action. nothing. so freakin weak!!!
its truth, justice, and the american way!, not truth, justice, and all that other stuff!!! - trer, on 10/23/2007, -0/+2If they want a winner, get Richard Donner to direct.
