- aZombie, on 01/06/2008, -1/+35I'm definitely not a huge fan of Superman Returns, but I though Routh was a decent Superman.
- adml_shake, on 01/06/2008, -1/+28Mr. Routh wasn't the problem with the movie. The script was the biggest let down.
- ariez84, on 01/06/2008, -2/+21Problem with Returns is that THERE WAS NO VILLAIN!
Everyone is sick of Lex as the main villain. We dont want to see Superman getting beat by freaking humans with kryptonite. That may work with an origin movie, but NOT as a sequel to Reeves films. Superman went from fighting Lex, to fighting Zod and his henchmen, to FIGHTING LEX AGAIN! ugh. I seriously hope Bryan Singer comes back for Man of Steel for two reason:
1) He have shown to be a good director. Xmen 2 was one of the greatest comic story to grace the silver screen.
2) He is passionate about Superman. Idolizes him and this is important. We need a comic book geek working on the flms...anyone that ever seen the script for Nick Cage Superman knows what im talking about.
And Routh was great both as Clark Kent and Superman. The only cast i have a problem with was Kate Bosworth...she played a horrible Loius. - CloseTheCode, on 01/06/2008, -3/+21I'm overcome with indifference.
- DanteDefiance, on 01/06/2008, -0/+14Me too. It wasn't Routh that was the problem, it was the horrible, horrible movie. They wait 20 years to make a sequel and the best they could come up with was an illegitimate child plot point. Who wrote the script? Jerry Springer? COME ON FOLKS! There's decades of great Superman stories, just pick up a damn comic.
P.S. BRAINIAC! - xdvx, on 01/06/2008, -1/+13We want Brandon Routh!
- chimpus, on 01/06/2008, -6/+14Gene Hackman is Lex
- inactive, on 01/06/2008, -1/+7You sound like a goddamn studio plant.
- rosullivan, on 01/06/2008, -6/+12I thought Routh was superb as a new Superman and Clark Kent. He fit the role perfectly. Kevin Spacey was fantastic as Lex Luthor, and I thought the supporting cast was very good as well. Frank Langella, Parker Posey, James Marsden, even the seemingly mute Kal Penn - they were all fairly perfect casting choices. Lois Lane got an update in Kate Bosworth and while I wasn't 100% sold on her, she eked out a decent performance I suppose.
Singer's epic storytelling and direction were still in good form and I think more highly of this Superman movie than I do Superman 3 or 4. I personally hope Singer Returns (ha) and brings us another great Superman film. He did the first one justice and I enjoyed it quite thoroughly.
I am glad to hear Brandon will be back... He was perfectly cast. - GuidoRosso, on 01/06/2008, -5/+10Oh and what was with the the gelled hair? Superman's hair is supposed to be loose and Clark Kent's hair is supposed to be slicked back...
- HappyScrappy, on 01/06/2008, -0/+5No, the problem is you can never believe Superman and Lois even ever LIKED each other, let alone did it. There's no chemistry between then.
There's more chemistry between Superman and Cyclops (Scott Marsden, Lois' new beau) than between Superman and Lois. - mikelieman, on 01/06/2008, -2/+6I thought Michael Rosenbaum was The Flash??? Oh, yeah, that too...
- Unreal595, on 01/06/2008, -1/+5And how many of us still care?
- Jibberwalk, on 01/06/2008, -0/+3Completely... how are they going to kill that kid off once they realize he's a lame plot point?
- Ajnabee4U, on 01/06/2008, -1/+4No u want Brandon Routh.
- DangerMouse9, on 01/06/2008, -2/+5The people digging you down must all still be in junior high... or possibly in their first couple of years of high school.
- solid12345, on 01/06/2008, -0/+3Well people picked apart x-men over the costumes.
- SteveIsTheDude, on 01/06/2008, -3/+5"I think more highly of this Superman movie than I do Superman 3 or 4"... Ummm... thats not raising the bar very high.... I have seen Flomax comericials that were better than those movies.
- centran, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2Routh tried to pick up on how Christopher Reeve portrayed the character. I think they did a good job. Only thing was Superman was a little depressing. Not his fault but the writing. He was gone for 5 years... you would think he would be excited to save people again. But no, he is tired of it, people always counting on you, the thousands of voices screaming out...
OK, good. That is one of the reasons he left. We get it. It wasn't just to see his destroyed home world. But he is back now damnit! - Septimus, on 01/06/2008, -2/+4No, he was horrible as Lex. Damn comedy side kick not an enemy.
- paulvq, on 01/06/2008, -1/+3Speak for yourself.
- jizzlies, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2damn strike!
- Rousterfar, on 01/06/2008, -2/+4Yes, let's pick a movie apart because of hair.
- estacado, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2I only watch the show for Kristin Kreuk. How many more excuses can the writers come up with to keep Clark from learning how to fly. The show needs to move on and become Metropolis instead of Smallville. I don't think the fans will stop watching once he becomes Superman. I think the ratings might actually increase if it happens.
- thecrazyd, on 01/06/2008, -2/+4The Death of Superman story is one of the stupidest, most bull ***** stories in comic history. And Superman is generally not the most violent guy, although it would be nice to see him actually punch someone in the next sequel.
- inactive, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2good point. And that story was lol funny
- ButchersBoy, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1Superman Returns rocked, though I can see why some may be dissappointed by it's like of a strong baddie. Can't wait for the next one, I hope Singer/Routh finish what they started.
- Rousterfar, on 01/06/2008, -3/+4Personally, I loved SUPERMAN RETURNS. The movie was a fantastic setup and relaunch for the franchise. They have already said that the next one will take it to the next level and give you all the "big bad" and action that you are looking for.
- GuidoRosso, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Well that's just how bad the gelled hair was. Along with the costume it pretty much ruined the Superman look. Pick up a comic and see what he's really supposed to look like.
- Tapewormz, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1Superman Returns was a treat. I don't care what anyone says, it was awesome to see the man of steel return to the big screen. Brandon Routh is an amazing job of casting for the roll. I'm looking forward to a sequel.
- pcpimpster, on 01/06/2008, -2/+3Orgazmo > Superman
- Slayerdude51982, on 01/06/2008, -0/+1It wasn't Routh's fault that the script was bad, he did what he could and in my opinion he was a good superman.
- estacado, on 01/06/2008, -1/+2So they're still not sure whether they want to make a new Superman movie. Too bad. I would love to see a kickass Superman movie. Returns was too tame. If they do make a new one, I hope they revamp it and not make a sequel to Returns. Making Returns "Donner" style was a mistake. It should have been edgier. And Superman having a son really messes things up.
- rickweasel, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Courteney Cox is Lois Lane. Have you seen scream?
- centran, on 01/06/2008, -0/+1HappyScrappy is right. Kate was a good Lois but she either couldn't pull off the sappy love aspect and/or there was 0 - Z E R O chemistry between them.
- Elranzer, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1"There's more chemistry between Superman and Cyclops (Scott Marsden, Lois' new beau) than between Superman and Lois."
Duh. Bryan Singer is gay (for real). He always slips little gay jokes or allegories in his movies. Plus he thinks Marsden and Routh are pretty. - thedragon4453, on 01/06/2008, -1/+1I'm glad Routh is back. It wasn't really casting that was the problem (which, except maybe Kate Bosworth, I think they did an awesome job.) The problem was the script. There are so many better stories. That, and the whole Kryptonite island thing was really retarded.
- estacado, on 01/06/2008, -1/+1I got an idea. Lex Luthor kills the kid, then there'll be really bad blood between Superman and Lex, thus making Lex a way more interesting/evil villain, and also a new badass Superman can emerge.
- estacado, on 01/06/2008, -1/+1That was what Bryan Singer said, but since he's unlikely to be involved with a sequel if there is one, it could end up as another lame-fest.
- Mononuclear, on 01/06/2008, -1/+1stop spamming this site in every comment you post.
- centran, on 01/06/2008, -1/+1They should have moved and changed the name to Metropolis. They would get many more seasons out of it.
I like Welling's Clark. Unfortunately they don't really deal with his clumsy aspects. Maybe at the end they will start to deal with his need to create separate persona's for clark and superman.
Oh and rumor was he was the prime candidate for Returns but turned it down for several reasons one being that he didn't want to get type casted forever as superman. - searcade, on 01/06/2008, -1/+1Tom should play as Superman...
- solid12345, on 01/06/2008, -1/+1All these praises for Superman Returns and Routh sounds like imdb.com before opening weekend "yeaaah I saw it last night early and looved it!"
- Plinkotic, on 01/06/2008, -2/+2Brainiac and Mxyptlk, with Doomsday or Bizarro or both. ***** budgeting, you put those characters into the movie and make it all look real, and people will ***** themselves. Imagine a well written, ultra violent Superman movie. He gets beaten to death, John Henry Irons and the clones/elder tech make their play to cover for his rebirth, ect. The movie ends with Brainiac plotting, Mxy banished to his own realm for a set time limit, and the monsters either dead or put in the phantom zone. I liked the animated Superman/Doomsday film, but one of the best parts of his death was the way the monster PLOUGHED through the JLA/I/E? beforehand. It beat the hell out of some pretty powerful heroes before Superman returned and intervened. Felt the animated death made more sense too, being internally ruptured and bleeding out visibly. Never liked the scene in the comic where they hit each other at the same time with a killing blow.
- Jibberwalk, on 01/06/2008, -3/+2I know this might sound weird... but I think Smallville is infinitely better than Superman Returns. Tom Welling nails what I feel the Clark Kent persona should be, and I think he'd make a pretty smashing Superman. I would have loved to see him recieve the role over Routh.
- hobgobbler, on 01/06/2008, -14/+12He was pretty good at standing there looking gay, I guess
- HappyScrappy, on 01/06/2008, -4/+1Can't act his way out of a paper bag. If you're going to make a sequel, get rid of him or don't even bother making it.
- deanjarvis, on 01/06/2008, -6/+2Awww... heck Singer is still attached?
- greenlander, on 01/06/2008, -12/+7Because the first one stunk to high heaven?
- euping, on 01/06/2008, -8/+2Glad you posted this.
