"He boasts that of all the men he's shot, not a single one was able to shoot first."
I enjoyed that little dig. Stupid revisionist editing. - antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+57Chewie turned into Scooby Doo!
- windhawk, on 10/12/2007, -6/+42Let's call it "Firefly" and be done with it.
- Bahimiron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35Phlogisaber just doesn't roll off the tongue.
It sounds like a sex toy Hitler might have used. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33Chewbacca's hat is awesome.
- cinnix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29Wuh-woh.
- Detritus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Burying you not for using CAPS, but because you don't know how to use Digg's reply.
- thcobbs, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27I know I'll get buried deeper than the Marianas Trench and lose major geek cred for this...
But what the hell is Steampunk? I've seen many projects pertaining to it and I like the aesthetics, but I have no frame of reference for it. - NickyBatts, on 10/12/2007, -6/+29I am just counting the seconds until Lucas fires up the lawsuit machine...
- merr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Probably won't happen. If you remember, they are supportive of people posting Star Wars spoofs/variants on YouTube. I doubt this is going to bother them.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Or at least Princess Leia being forced to work in an 1800's brothel run by Jabba the Hutt.
- hplasm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16bring on the steamdroids!!!
- themarq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16I don't see the guy making any money off of this, and traditionally Lucas has not sued anyone one making fan films or writing fan fiction as long as they:
A:Don't insult the original work
B:Don't make any money off of it.
This stuff is great, I bet Lucas loves it. - johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk
I think one of the best modern examples may be "The Difference Engine" - a novel that depicted steam driven "clackers" (basically computers driven off of steam) and what the influences might have been on early 20th century England. I liked most of it, but I thought the "mystery" was kind of obvious. - duke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14He turned Darth Vader into Little Lord Ponceabout! He looks more like C3PO.
- mwmccullough, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Impressive. Most Impressive.
- EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12"Ask an obvious question and curse a lot. A response will be forthcoming, although it will be filled with pompous arrogance."
This should go in some kind of "Internet 101" primer here on Digg. Truer words were never spoken.
For example, how not to get help (and derided for not RTFM or consulting the FAQ):
"I'm having trouble installing Linux on my Dell laptop, can you guys offer any tips to help a newbie along?"
Now, to get help in a geek forum or newsgroup, one only has to say something like this:
"I't is utterly *impossible* to install Linux on any Dell laptop. I tried, and it won't take. I swear, every time I try to do something productive with Linux, I'm just convinced that it's an utter piece of $hit. Maybe I should just run Windows instead - at least it works. Seriously, what do you guys see in this stuff?"
This will be taken as a challenge to solve an easy problem bungled by a clueless user, while defending Linux's honor (more or less) on the public record. Also, it's low-hanging fruit that an alpha-geek can use to posture and gloat a little bit - it's simply irresistable. Anyway, somewhere in the ensuing log of flames pointed in your direction, will be all the help you need. - thcobbs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Ways to get support for geeks:
Ask an obvious question and curse a lot. A response will be forthcoming, although it will be filled with pompous arrogance. - gmiley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10@duke
I just keep imagining him moving about in a creepy, jerky-like fashion similar to something out of a Tool video. - SiLENC3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9It could be overlooked because it was mainstream and popular, but I'd like to think that it's because it was a pretty crappy movie...
A giant spider in the 3rd act? Come on... - gmiley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Where is Leia in a ball gown and parasol?
- ndonohue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Its pretty much the 1890's version of the future; what would have happened if we hadn't invented internal combustion or computers. The Time Machine and Last Exile are good examples.
- windhawk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+619th century.
So instead of "dude, steampunk is soooo last century." It would be more like, "my dear fellow, most archaic." - Detritus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10What a coincidence, I was just at a site that went the other way... I liked these pictures more: http://www.catthouse.com/miravi/spacestuff.html (Extremely NSFW, Children, Elderly, Humor Disabled)
- thefirelane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I am just counting the seconds....
So *that's* what people do for fun in Buffalo... - YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's a play on the term 'cyberpunk'. Because 'Steam-Fiction' sounds too much like a porn film and 'Speculative Alternate-Technological Fiction" doesn't roll of the tongue.
- KnytFyre, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I noticed Han's pistol seemed a little too much like Mal's
- djsputnik, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9nice work. not a huge fan of the whole steampunk style, but this is true to the original
- laterallateral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5we cool, man.
- SinisterDexter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I love what they did to Han... But Chewbacca... He looks too much like your standard Bothan.
- nuclearpenguins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Wow. Words cannot express the levels of lameness that are discharged from that artist.
- Falldog, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7When I think of steam-punk i think of the technology, so how about some more technology redesigns instead of people?
- omnithought, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Arcanum, anyone?
- mikesbaker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yes well done. I was never that big of a fan of "The Difference Engine". "Neuromancer" was the one for me.
- thcobbs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Sorry, that was not directed at you laterallateral
- JCSaint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4yeah, that movie blew
- Buttercup, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6i hate fox for ditching firefly.
bring back firefly! we like it alot! - merr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Vader's lightsaber reminds me of the Soul Reaver.
- ekiwi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3***** where's the compliments! Like it or no, awesome work man! You are very talented!
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I want him to do C3PO, R2D2, and the Millenium Falcon.
- Buttercup, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yeah, if theres anything that technerds are, its arrogant. hurt a geeks pride and you'll be hearing about it for a while.
i'm the most arrogant person i know. and thats saying a lot because i know some arrogant bastards. - ryannerd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Kinda creepy but cool!
For some other new Star Wars related stuff look here: http://digg.com/videos/gaming/New_Lightsaber_Fight_Shot_in_HD - hoopers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thank you for sharing that RvD had another video! That was incredible.
- BobsYourUncle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I loved the Lord Vader. It's my new desktop background.
- xGORDOx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4F-ing cool man!
- gmiley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2For an example, please see the link at the top of the article.
- tipexy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This has sent me off on a crash course in "steampunk" too. Trying to get my head round it,could you say "howels moving castle" is steam punk? They are all prancing around in crinolines, with flying warships. Or is this just wrong?
- idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, I *would* classify Howl's Moving Castle as steampunk, or at least very heavily influenced by it. Remember, steampunk is basically sci-fi/fantasy using Victorian era technology.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk#Fantasy-world_steampunk
The Wikipedia article even mentions Howl's Moving Castle as an example of anime steampunk. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2can someone link to the supposed 1% of steampunk remixes?
it is very intriguing bitches - windhawk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I would hardly say steampunk is "recent" -- unless you never saw the movie Brazil (1985).
