- decibelx, on 10/13/2007, -8/+59Scotty (Pegg): Communicators off. It's not a social gathering.
Crewman: All right, keep your hair on, grandad.
Scotty: Hey! I'm 29 for Christ's sakes.
(beat)
How old are you?
Crewman: 17.
Scotty: I know you don't wanna be here forever.
I got things I wanna do with my life.
Crewman: When?
(beat)
You got red on you. - ScrumFritter, on 10/13/2007, -0/+41...and THIS is how you take a joke too far!
- crapmatic, on 10/13/2007, -2/+42If this is Hollywood it will only be a matter of time before they add Will Smith in this thing.
- Alphateam, on 10/13/2007, -0/+38I have a question for the super Star Trek nerds.
How long was this crew together before we first saw them in TOS?
It is started to feel like Muppet Babies. - inactive, on 10/13/2007, -0/+31...and THAT'S how you do replying!
- swisstone, on 10/13/2007, -3/+31...and THAT's how you do commenting
- swisstone, on 10/13/2007, -2/+30...and THAT's the way to keep it going!
- inactive, on 10/13/2007, -4/+30...and THAT's the end of THAT!
- noblepenguin, on 10/13/2007, -0/+26"Oh, HELL NAH!"
- scottykempf, on 10/13/2007, -1/+26"Captain, I just canna do it. There be no "I" in "team", but there be an "I" in "meat pie". And meat... is an anagram... of team."
- blankman, on 10/17/2007, -3/+27I still think it's a huge mistake. Most Star Trek fans really want to see the latest (24th century) stories develop further, like a DS9 movie, where the series ended with so many loose ends to tie up.
Making a pre-original series movie is really not going to attract the biggest audience for two reasons. One, watching the past in Star Trek is not what a lot of fans want to do (which is why Enterprise (the series) had a hard time).
The other is that they are replacing all of the original characters with modern actors/actresses. Actor replacements for well-established characters is usually a disaster in movies and TV shows. - adoggz, on 10/13/2007, -0/+22and THIS is how you do a CCCCCC-Combo Breaker!
- feshmania, on 10/13/2007, -1/+21right now the above has -1 diggs on the comment...does that mean everyone wants naked Klingon sex?
- ButchersBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Muppet babies rocked.
- wilowisp, on 10/13/2007, -0/+18Spock was assigned to the Enterprise in 2254...years before any of the others. Kirk, Sulu, and Scottie joined the Enterprise in 2265 (the start of the 5 year mission). Uhura and McCoy came on board in 2266, and Chekov joined the crew in 2267. To get an idea of their relative ages to each other, in 2265 Kirk was 32, Spock 33, Sulu 28, Uhura 26, McCoy 38, Scottie 43 and Chekov 20. Info from memory-alpha.org
- wendelgee2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Ours is a forbidden love. Forbidden by my girlfriend.
- feshmania, on 10/13/2007, -1/+18Look, I don't particularly like Star Trek, but a remake of something that was so epic is definitely noteworthy so, you know, shut the ***** up.
- rusty182004, on 10/13/2007, -0/+16I almost wish they would take the re-imagined route that battlestar galatica has. It would probably piss people off too much though (myself included). Still, something really fresh instead of carefully stitched together canonical material might be interesting.
- jkoski, on 10/13/2007, -0/+16They did. It was called Galaxy Quest.
- HUKI365, on 10/13/2007, -3/+19BS - no trekkie on Digg that is a fan of Pegg has a girlfriend!
- hokie47, on 10/13/2007, -8/+23I wish they would make a movie where they went back in time to kill the whole Enterprise NX-01 crew for the sole purpose to prevent us from watching that *****.
- DangerMouse9, on 10/13/2007, -7/+19Well write your own script then, but keep the naked Klingon sex out of it.
- matriculated, on 10/13/2007, -1/+13This ***** just got real.
- brstilson, on 10/13/2007, -1/+12Just scrap the cast except for Simon Pegg and have Working Title do the whole movie. A good Star Trek parody is exactly we need.
- StarlessKnight, on 10/13/2007, -2/+13When it comes to prequels, the odds are not in our favor. [Could be my natural tendency to distrust all prequels until I see them, though, talking.]
- BlazinEurasian, on 10/13/2007, -0/+11He would own his own starship called the Willenium.
- AntBing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Go watch Shaun of the Dead.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/15/2007, -2/+11The problem with the original show and continuing to expand it is manifold. To begin with, the first show's technology level (or what they thought the future would be like) is so way-off for the current viewer that a lot of people are unable to suspend their disbelief. A lot of new viewers watch classic trek for the pop culture, the historical sci-fi, and how the stories affected the humanity of the characters.
Later Trek, good or bad, suffered from an overabundance of technology coupled with a lack of a direction and/or head writer. Trek just became a gigantic mess with a "forehead of the week" alien menace. The only bright spot was the fourth season of "Enterprise," after Berman and Braga got the boot; they still returned for the finale to royally ***** it up.
I would like to see this film do for Star Trek what the current Battlestar Galactica has done for its namesake. - StoneDead, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Serious? Wow just wow.
- demonstro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Kobayashi the champion Hot Dog eater?
- kepper, on 10/13/2007, -0/+9Sulu: "Did Doogie Howser just steal our ***** starship?"
- hatdrop, on 10/13/2007, -0/+8to uhara: "girl you must be really tired cause you've been runnin through my mind ALL DAY!"
- RainNIU, on 10/13/2007, -1/+9Dude...
- nightsweat, on 10/13/2007, -0/+8And it was surprisingly good.
By Grapthar's Hammer, I shall avenge thee! - Lanefair, on 10/13/2007, -1/+9Simon Pegg? Scotty? Strange choice, I mean, Scotty always had a comedy element to him, but you wouldn't want to pick a fight with the guy either. I don't get that from Pegg.
- noahhoward, on 10/13/2007, -0/+8Chris Pine as Kirk? What the *****?
- BlazinEurasian, on 10/13/2007, -1/+9Next time I need a wingman I'm calling you.
- Battleloser, on 10/13/2007, -4/+12We've seen the star trek future. It's lame.
- StarlessKnight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"The best diplomat I know is a fully charged phaser bank!"
- ScrumFritter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Would you want to mess with him in Hot Fuzz? No you would not.
"Punch that *****!" - mikesbaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6quit spamming that you moron
- clemdionisio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I loved Harald and Kramer. Especially when Kramer comes up with the idea to start a restaurant where you make your own pizza.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You wanted the prequel show to use "tapes" and anaolg numeric displays?
See my above comment. This is why basing a continuity on a vision of the 23rd century that was created in the 1960's just doesn't hold water with current viewers. - taintedzodiac, on 10/13/2007, -0/+6Thumbs Up for referring to John Cho as "that Kumar guy." So true.
- FiendishMuffin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The problem here isn't the people they cast, it's the characters they're casting them for. I'm just having a very difficult time accepting the idea of these characters being played by different actors (actors that, for the most part have spent their LIFE playing them).
That aside, Scotty as a character was always kind of a comedic... almost a stereotype at times. I think if Pegg brings enough of his own personality to the role, he will be very fun to watch. - bjs3171, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6what movies are you referring to, that are at all bad?
