- jayf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This confirms my observations about movie rehash trend.
Movie trend status list:
1. "make good original movies" trend = dead and forgotten
2. "sci-fi horrors like predator, terminator, alien" trend = gameover
1. "find every comic book and make it into a movie quick!" trend = nearing end
2. "LOTR look-alikes and historical movies" trend = half way through but limping
3. "Old 20s and 30s stories like WOTR, King Kong, Indiana Jones" trend = just revving up
Any bets on the next movie production trends? - Jumangi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Count me as someone who thinks this isn't going to turn out good. The last movie came out over 15 years ago. I don't care if Ford's in great shape he's still 63 now. Thats just not Indy. Anybody remember the Bond movie Connery did in the 80's after all those years? He just looked old in that one and it didn't work. The Indy movies had there run and should be left at that.
- jeffreym, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Raiders of the Lost Sex Drive?
Indiana Jones and the Temple Beth Israel?
Indiana Jones and the Lost Geritol?
http://celestial-reasoning.blogspot.com/ - cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Okay, Raiders of the Lost Ark takes place in 1936. It's been 25 years since that opened, so if the next Indiana Jones movie is true to the age, that would set in in 1961 or 1962... which is the year that American Graffiti is set in... Indy could team up with Bob Falfa if that's the case!
- rhthekida, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, heaven forbid that anyone has their own opinion about films. I liked Munich myself, but that is my, key word here, OPINION.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been waiting years for this. If it's made as well as Munich was, we really should be in for a treat.
http://www.dpodgor.net - dimatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks, I think i've heard him say somewhere that he's in the best shape of his life though :s
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Spielberg is the king of the manipulative directors. That's why most people are soured on his crap at this point. Putting a waaaaay over-the-hill Indiana Jones on screen isn't going to make us forget that, only make things worse.
- falcon1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just because it was shot 25 years ago, that doesnt mean that the next one has to take place 25 years later. Thats the beauty of movies - they can make Ford look as old or as young as they want. Spielberg is a good director, and I am confident he will do a good job with this. :-)
- cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Just don't bring back the mediocre Sean Connery."
Are. You. *****. Kidding. Me. ???
Mediocre? In what way, on what planet, in what galaxy is he a mediocre actor? His Bond films alone put him in elite territory. They weren't all GREAT movies but most were. - thelastknowngod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"yeah munich is know as a terrible movie. what with the 5 Oscar nominations and all."
you must not have seen it then. munich was crap. - cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Everyone bashes A.I., but I believe it may be his most interesting work. Definitely flawed, but after repeat viewings I have fallen in love with this movie for the attempt, if not the success, of what he was trying to do in realizing Kubrick's vision.
- RobotCitizen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here's hoping it's as good as A.I.
Oh, waitaminute... - madquest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the movies from these egocentric directors have been terrible. they have become out of touch with movie goers. Tim Burton ruined Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is so great! I have been hearing rumors for at least 10 years. Were they based on reality, or were they just speculation? Has this really been in the works for that long?
- kunit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i hope this movie turns out better than munich and munich was pretty good
- b1sh0p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Am I the only one who thought Munich was lousy? The terrorism at the games scenes were over in the first act, which were pretty much what got me to watch the movie in the first place. Bait and switch, IMHO. The rag tag team of amatuer spy bomber stuff after that was beyond boring.
- Woknblues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0looking forward to speilberg's indy4. absolutely hated war of the worlds. that was hard to watch. I think ford will be OK at 63. I am sure that his character will be aged as well, so what's the problem? it's not like he is "actually" doing the stunts etc. anyways. Sean Connery has shown that older guys can kick some ass. lets not forget that Ford was almost 50 when he did Indy3.

- skyshark88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Any bets on the next movie production trends?
Yes copy China........... - subcoolandice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I feel that Steven Spielberg has been experimenting with his movies! from A.I.which he tried to go to the mind of Stanley Kubrick! until now he's trying to try new things!! His two recent movies! War of the world is not that bad a lot of people didn't like it , Because Spielberg went on a different approach to it! it's not as action pack as everyone was expecting it to be! like independence day for example! it's more focus on the relationship a family! You won't even see armies fighting the aliens or what happens to the rest of the world and governments! which leaves a lot of thing that people desired in a movie of that scope! As for Munich it's pretty good! gritty and realistic! it's like a documentary in a way! it's like an long art film in revamped mode! if you watch documentary one day in September! actually Spielberg is a master story teller! his vision is superb! he brings history to us through his eyes! like Schindler's list , saving private Ryan and his series band of brothers! Now that i heard that his gonna make Indiana Jones 4! it's bound to happen sooner or later! it's one of the most beloved character's of all time! the Indiana Jones trilogy left a mark in movie history! if browse the net! you'll see that raider's of the lost ark is almost in all greatest movies of all time! from entertainment weekly to time magazines! and it's also brought to us by George Lucas company and from lucasarts ltd track record! from six starwars and 3 Indiana Jones movies! which are all in highest grossing movies! there's no reason this will fail! no lose-lose situation! it's sure hit! Regarding Harrison ford being Indiana Jones that his too old for it! Based on what I'm reading they are going for older and smarter Indy! geared towards the supernatural! and it's after world war 2! but this not yet fully confirmed! there's nobody else i can see playing Indiana Jones! Harrison ford brought this character to life! Indiana Jones is Harrison ford! Could you imagine somebody else playing Han solo besides Harrison ford! or his Decker character in blade runner! and Harrison ford is still very bankable even now in his 60's! Bringing Lucas and Spielberg for another Indy adventure is great news! and i believed that they will do their best job for us fans! Spielberg is different from George! George is visionary in special effects which he proved in the new star wars trilogy which is a special effects heaven! every shot is filled with it! Spielberg don't really use too much of visual effects as Lucas he just uses it to make a complete the whole picture! and also i believed industrial light and magic will do their best to give us a great Indy experience now that computer technology is much better than before! I won't be surprised if this movie breaks another box office record when it gets released! and the hype around this picture will staggering high! after 20 years of waiting what do you expect! if you don't wanna be disappointed just don't expect too much and just enjoy the ride! and hope for the best! and all tell yourself it's about time they made another!
- evilash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>Yea I know....the plot sucks... but is seems to be the kind of crap that's coming out of
>liberal Hollywood lately... so it will probably will win the oscar that year.
Oh yeah, one movie about a gay romance comes out and does well. God forbid. I'm pretty convinced at this point that almost every single person complaining about "liberal hollywood crap" and the depiction of a real gay relationship is just covering up for the fact that they're a closeted flamer themselves. Jeez, use your head. - airship, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I loved 1941. I know I'm the only one, but I thought it was hilarious.
- Lifelogger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Really awsome! i can not wait to see the movie, as a big Indy fan. Same as Back to the Future. Love them too! :-)
- keilly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I find it strange when people get so excited when a new Spielberg film is announced. Sure he has a few brilliant films, but he has more turkeys than brilliance, and most of his films are just OK. Don't believe me? Check out his IMDB scores, especially his recent ones...

5's = 3
6's = 3
7's = 11
8's = 5 - lunarship, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think my favourite Spielbergs are Schindler's List, Amistad and 1941 (appeals to my warped sense of humour, but then I liked Roman Polanski's "Pirates" too, so what do I know).
Anyhoo, don't criticise it before you've seen it. Sounds like it might be flogging a bit of a dead horse franchise-wise to me (and I think the third one was a bit as well), but with a bit of luck and a following wind it won't be another "Mummy Returns" :-) - Dhalgren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My top ten list of possible titles:
http://www.transmatrix.net/archives/000104.php - chiefcrazytalk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0According to IMDB "Writing Credits: George Lucas". Dear God no!!!
- PradaPete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If they plan to do more than #4 they should switch to another actor now, but it could be good with Harrison if he gets a few botox shots he'll be alright
- StanrickKubley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A 4th Indiana Jones title is like that last hit of the bong you think you want but ends up taking you from a nice buzz to way too f'd up.
- robertgoodwin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones. If Ford can't do it, don't bother.
- MiamiGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is the one where Indiana Jones finally gets flattened by the rolling boulder as he cannot outrun it with his cane.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sweet
- digdugdig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Spielberg's movies are generally okay, but often leaves something to be desired. There's nothing wrong with a happy ending, but Spielberg often gets confused about what's happy and what's sappy. Like War of the worlds. It would have been cool but for the "heroic" brother going off and then be found alive at the end. That was just stupid. The Indy movies have fared quite well, though, so I'll be happy if he makes another. Just don't bring back the mediocre Sean Connery.
- jinexile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+02 to 1 that Indiana Jones is going to be Harrison Ford finding out he has a daughter named after him and hilarity will try to ensure by confusion over someone calling out their name and both of them answering, then looking at each other confused like, blah blah blah.
- ekso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0NO MORE SEQUELS
- evilash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just turned 23 today actually. My breakthrough Spielberg moment was going to a special exhibit at the Natural History Museum in NY when Jurassic Park came out in 1993, then going to see the movie the same day at the Ziegfeld theater. I've wanted to be in the movie business ever since. :)
- floorman56, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can see the plot now...Indiana and his g.a.y lover now named "Long round" find Hitler and his leadership escaped the end of WWII by time travel so Indiana and Long round time travel to 2006 to find that Hitler and Co. are ruining the U.S. and after a climatic battle in the white house Indiana and Long round sing there never ending love for each other before having g.a.y s.e.x in the oval office..cut to black..key music.
Yea I know....the plot sucks... but is seems to be the kind of crap that's coming out of liberal Hollywood lately... so it will probably will win the oscar that year. - jmullman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll make the obligatory remark about how all of the Nazis in this film will have walkie-talkies instead of guns.
- OperatorNo9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I hate to break it to you Stevie Spielbaby . . . the people who would want the 'sweet desert' of yet ANOTHER Indiana Jones film are definitely not the same that would have watched the droll 'Munich'."
I saw Munich...I didn't find it amusing. (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=droll)
And regardless what you thought of the film or what your politics are, it was as finely crafted as his other movies. You can't dispute the quality.
BTW, I will also see Indiana Jones 4. Good or bad, I have to do it. - Detour, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Time Bandits is also 25-years-old.

I would love to see a remake of this! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
They should make a "Young Indiana Jones" movie......that would be fun.
It was pretty well done: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103586/ - RpgActioN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>I can see the whining comments "HOW IS THIS TECH NEWS? WAAAAAAAAAAH" now.
Digg has a movie section.... - lovetoplayball, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The key to being memorable is going out at the right time. If they try to make him Superman it will be unbelievable. He needs to let go and do a role that matches where he is in life. There is nothing wrong with aging. We all have different seasons of life. What is weird is when they try to cast someone for the wrong one. If Ford is in Indy 4 the role needs to match who he is now. If they don't it will sour the first 3.
