- SHuisman, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14same for the cartoons on tv!
- swgc5, on 10/11/2007, -1/+34Snowy!!!!!!
- themastersb, on 10/11/2007, -31/+5The Tintin cartoon sucked so much.
- radix33, on 10/11/2007, -1/+28To be precise: I really love those books!
- thecatisdead, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12@those digging down swgc5
snowy is tintin's dog - laserob, on 10/11/2007, -4/+18"...adventurous young journalist who follows stories and solves mysteries." I'm getting a raging clue.
- noopzilla!, on 10/11/2007, -14/+1tintin is cool and all, but this sounds like it might be pretty ***** gay.
- FortyCaliber, on 10/11/2007, -7/+3@laserob
... you should see my clue, it's huge. Look my clue is pointing over there.
I couldn't stop laughing when I read that. That South Park episode was so ***** funny. - PowerCat, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11I'm not sure if this will be any good. The orignal comic book and the cartoons were perfect. They'll just corrupt a great character with hollywoodism all over the place. I can bet they'll put a woman in there and have tintin fall in love with her. Everyone knows tintin is a *****!
- abcdefghij, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1did any of you ever read/seen a Tintin book in which instead of comic, it has photographs of real actors with the story below them.
I forgot the title, but it was a good book nonetheless. Can't par with the comic but it's not bad. - sanman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"Billions of blistering blue barnacles!" ;P
my favorites were the ones where they went to the moon, and the lake of sharks (both were made into animated movies)
what was the last book in the series?
- deadmen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8This is very surprising. I knew that Spielberg liked the series, but had no idea he liked it enough to direct a film from it. And Jackson directing another? The mind boggles.
Any guesses as to who will direct the third film? Who would you people like to see doing it?- Coffeedemon, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8John Watters
But to be serious ... how about Jean Pierre Jeunet? A great director and being French he's likely familiar with the works. - Tabou, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9@hamrag
He didn't say Tintin was French. He said since the director is French he is probably familiar with Tintin (as is the case with 99.99% of the French). - Optic7, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3@deadmen
It's not too surprising because Spielberg had owned the film rights to Tintin for many many years.

- Spideristic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16I was so looking forward to this movie and had no doubts that it would be a live action film. But when I read it was going to be 3-D, I was so disappointed.
Now reading further in that article, Spielberg and Jackson gave their valid reasons for it and now I totally agree, since they will be really honouring Herge and his art by retaining his vision of the characters and the world he created for them.
"We want Tintin's adventures to have the reality of a live-action film, and yet Peter and I felt that shooting them in a traditional live-action format would simply not honor the distinctive look of the characters and world that Herge created," Spielberg continued."
Jackson said WETA will stay true to Remi's original designs in bringing the cast of Tintin to life, but that the characters won't look cartoonish.
"Instead," Jackson said, "we're making them look photorealistic; the fibers of their clothing, the pores of their skin and each individual hair. They look exactly like real people --but real Herge people!"

**The only exception being Schindler's List. Its proof that Spielberg can make a movie for adults. I just wish he'd do it more often.- Roger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24Jaws is childish?
Close Encounters of the Third Kind?
The Color Purple?
Saving Private Ryan?
Amistad? - ilyag, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12Don't forget Munich, the most hard-core movie about modern terrorism and it's social and political implications that we'll likely ever see in our lifetime.
- SimonGray, on 10/11/2007, -9/+1And it features a sexy naked Dutch undercover agent!!
- ilyag, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13She's only naked in the scene when they are killing her, in what is probably one of the most vicious and violent scenes Spielberg has ever filmed. It's about as sexy as watching a snuff film.
- SimonGray, on 10/11/2007, -11/+1Aw, why did you have to come busting in here with your outdated moral code...
- Roger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24Jaws is childish?
- auxplage, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22Finally, a good comic is being made into a movie.
- rcran, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Hopefully the tech has come farther along than it was in Polar Express. Everyone in that flick looked like the were carved out pixar soap.
- wiremonkeymommy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22Billions of Blue Blistering Barnacles!! It's about time!! kickass!
- Roger, on 10/11/2007, -8/+12Get Tarantino to direct the third one. That'll make things interesting.
- Kalior, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8O hellz yea!
finally a blockbuster trilogy worth looking forward to - vandal138, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0havent they been making this for a while? ive seen some of the animation and it looks pretty rad.
- opiv421, on 10/11/2007, -12/+3Tintin?
- ngmcs8203, on 10/11/2007, -10/+2I guess it is a European thing:
http://tintin.francetv.fr/uk/ - levi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I think this is most of the series that was on HBO.
http://video.google.com/videosearch?num=10&so=0&q=tintin+duration%3Along&start=0 - estvir, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3> I guess it is a European thing:
It was big in Australia and many other places too.
- ngmcs8203, on 10/11/2007, -10/+2I guess it is a European thing:
- Boomkin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5They should get Alfonso Cuarón for the third one.
- soumenb, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Or Ron Howard.
- vett, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2Third one HAS to go to Uwe Boll
- FIRTEEN888, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Yesssssssssss. I grew up reading these books and own almost everyone of em. Can't wait for this!!!!!!!!!!
- Spideristic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TinTin
Spielberg's love of the character is thought to have influenced the atmosphere and lead characterization in his Indiana Jones trilogy—both characters having strong moral codes and childhood adventures with the Boy Scouts. Spielberg has commented on the influence, noting he has "always loved Tintin", and that "some of Indiana Jones was inspired by the books" - jutendouji, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2If Spielberg is directing one of them, expect Aliens. And Dinosaurs. I guarantee it.
- FortyCaliber, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2and a shark.
- DJCult, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6A shark submarine, at the least.
- BowieX, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2From the Variety article: "Spielberg and Jackson have SELECTED THREE STORIES from Remi's 'The Adventures of Tintin' series." (Emphasis added.)
So expect more of an Indiana Jones approach than Close Encounters/Jurassic Park ;) - comedianX, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Expect the over-long, self indulgent sequel to be helmed by Jackson.
- SimonGray, on 10/11/2007, -0/+43D characters is not a good compromise. Either do a quality cartoon or a live action film, 3D characters is a strange middle way which doesn't fit the series.
I love Tintin BTW, especially the early ones where it's always Nazis and Communists who are the baddies :P
Edit: now when I think about it, there's already been a film with Tintin - the one with the Aztecs and the crystal ball?- SimonGray, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Whoa, apparently there's a lot of them:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tintin_books%2C_films%2C_and_media - jebus123, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3There has been two live action Tintin films (Tintin et les oranges bleu and Tintin et la toison d'or) and 1 cartoon film (Tintin et le Lac aux Requins). Most of the other books have been made into cartoons. I have the 2 box sets containing a total of 20 films made from the albums.
- SimonGray, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Whoa, apparently there's a lot of them:
- monsieurx, on 10/11/2007, -3/+0child memories never die... i never read other than the .be version but im sure it's all the same "Adventurer" meme that was sprouted in our foreheads... Luckily i got to travel to America, the inca's territory (no guano or live-inca temples (as oyu would expect in disney) but... anyway...
There's already a bunch of animated films... What's next, TinTin becomes a Jedi and kills the dinosaurs in 3D?
Yeah, that's the ticket! - Neiby, on 10/11/2007, -13/+2I must be getting old. I've never heard of Tintin. I've heard of Rin Tin Tin, but that's entirely different.
- SimonGray, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Tintin is probably older than you are so I doubt that could be the reason :)
It's mostly a European phenomenon... don't think it's ever been very popular in the US. - swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13Actually, Tintin's been around since 1930. And these movies are going to kick the ass of every preceeding comic book adaptation.
- monsieurx, on 10/11/2007, -9/+0Mostly due to cheesy european marketing... most europeans are concervative in adapting to the american culture (of everything is a market)...
But have their own comics nonetheless... Where they come together is actually heavy metal magazine... Their great stories are usually taken from the EU BD market...
:)
- SimonGray, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Tintin is probably older than you are so I doubt that could be the reason :)
- camknows, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I'm a proud American Tintin fan!
- monsieurx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Also on today's news, there's going to be a new 20 EU worth coin made in belgium with Tintin and Herge (his creator and author).
For all ya US dudettes and dudes, there's a big big (i mean BIG) market for hardcover stories in what is known as Bande Dessinee (select me copy me, google me). Alas, it's mostly in franzosich... It's kinda sad this medium hasn't transgressed the e-way...
Heavy Metal Magazine did though... How many of us digg it out? (yeah, google Heavy metal magazine too!)
cheerios! - Spideristic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2There have been two live action films in French, both of which were not based on any of the 24 books.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0055526/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058663/ - matriculated, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I'd rather see a 2d animated movie rather than a live action movie. Herge's artwork was half the reason to read Tintin (the other half being the writing). Besides, what actor is going to have a closely shaved head with a cowlick in the front? Alan Cummings? (and Harrison Ford as the Captain...)
- cyberfelon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's not live action. RTFA.
- SpaceMonkeyZero, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Would you put your brain in a robot body?
Oh, its Tintin, not Tinfins... - slapthemonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I am sure a big Tintin fan.
- TheHighPrivate, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Ten thousand thundering typhoons! This should be a great trilogy if they don't screw up the original characters/plots/etc.
- mrhaines, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I think motion capture 3-D looks weird...I prefer traditional animation better. In my opinion, Speilberg has lost it...he is over addicted to digital effects and has lost his ability to make good films without it. Please Speilberg, don't rape my childhood memories with your digital fanaticism!
- swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4WETA did a great job with Gollum in LOTR. I have no doubt that they can pull this off.
- flapanthers87, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3How the hell are they going the be able to pull off that cowlick in real life?
- vofuse, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Hey look! I'm posting saying I like Tintin. Digg me up!
- HouseofEl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2While this is indeed awesome, I feel this will be geared more towards children. That's certainly not a bad thing. I'm just not as excited because I've never been a fan of Tintin. I don't dislike the character. I just never could get into it. Hopefully, they can change my mind.
- DavidGuetta9, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Man, I really can't wait. Being French I grew up with Tintin, and I really hope they don't screw it up
- BirkBum, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Long live Belgium!!!
- davidadam, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I've been reading Tintin since I was little. All I hope for is that the characters look like they're full of life and personality and that the voice actors are good. Hire the guy who did his voice in the cartoon version of Aztecs, he was perfect for the job.
- yanked, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Due to the conspicuous absense of love interests/women, I heard they were going to introduce some. There was also discussion of making Captain Haddock female.
- puppetj, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0What the hell is Tintin??
- Klarth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Great snakes!
- Andross07, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You know who would be great for the live action film? One of the Ashmore twins! Shawn or Aaron.
- Alex76, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The films will be motion-captured 3D (like The Polar Express), because, according to Spielberg, "We want Tintin's adventures to have the reality of a live-action film, and yet Peter and I felt that shooting them in a traditional live-action format would simply not honor the distinctive look of the characters and world that Herge created."- 1st piece of good news
2nd piece of good news- If they actually base the movies on the books (as they said they intend to do), and not go create stuff that is new. Tintin in Tibet, Tintin and the Picaros and Tintin and the Blue Lotus are three they could start with... - Mitsu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0This will be very very nice:)
