- xerus, on 10/11/2007, -6/+69Gwen Stacy more face time? No, lets not. Howabout we give Spidey and the Villians more face time, instead of having montages of cooking omelettes?
- eleven, on 10/11/2007, -16/+59Spider-man 3 was a chick-flick in disguise... Unless spider-man 4 is being made by the Batman Begins team I will not even think about seeing it.
- adml_shake, on 10/11/2007, -6/+48Kristen Dunst full on Nude, or I torrent it when it comes out.
- weddle, on 10/11/2007, -4/+41Let me guess, Spider-Man 4 will end with a final battle where he has to save Mary Jane from the bad guys...
- TheTaoOfBill, on 10/11/2007, -2/+33I wish the movies were at least more witty. That's why spidey is so popular in the first place. He is witty as hell. In the movies he bareily makes a single wisecrack. He just whines a lot.
- raynar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+26No, Venom isn't dead. Dr. Connors still has a sample, remember?
- mywhitenoise, on 10/11/2007, -10/+36Have any of you guys ever read the comic? This movie has a far more serious tone than them. The comics were centered over a cheesy, witty, and over the top story line, where as the movies try to bring it more down to earth without pissing you fat virgins off.
- raynar, on 10/11/2007, -16/+34Shut the ***** up, all of you people who say you want watch will show up dressed in your Venom costume, just like you did on opening night.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+21Aslong as it is limited to one...MAYBE two villains.
That was the major downside of Spider-Man 3. Not Mary Jane, not omelettes. It was that they didn't learn from Batman 3's mistakes. there is simply not enough time in one movie to deal with 3 villains, plus Peter having to deal with his dark side. - Quidam, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17No more dancing in the movie. That's all I ask.
- krellor, on 10/11/2007, -3/+17They really screwed up the whole Gwen Stacey thing anyway. Way to introduce the character way out of sequence. I'm all for artistic license and all, but Parker didn't even really date MJ until after Gwen died. So I dunno what future role they hope to have Gwen play in the movies. They will have trouble using Gwen as a love interest without alienating fans and turning the series into a glorified soap opera with fight scenes.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13Link it to the ***** original source. *****.
http://www.mtvmoviesblog.com/2007/05/15/spider-man-4-claims-its-first-casualty/ - krellor, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12The train scene didn't bug me as much as how in the third, after every fight scene, or right before swooping down to get the key to the city, he took his mask off.
- SanTe, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Or crying. There's no crying in super hero stories, at least not by the super hero.
And no omelettes or soap opera-like amnesia, either. - ruthenium, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13The thing I'd most like to see in Spidey 4 is less mask removing. God dammit, Spiderman's identity is supposed to be secret. The whole scene in #2 with the train was ridiculous. Why does he have to take his mask off so much?
- GMorgan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10The problem with SM3 was they took Venom and ***** killed him within 20 minutes. I mean Venom is supposed to be practically invincible and he lasts a grand total of a few minutes. If they had focused solely on the Venom/Black Suit line and had Venom escape then it would have been approaching sense.
- mythandros, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9You're partially right. Hate isn't a stong enough word.
- SanTe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Maybe too weird since he's currently playing Batman but how about Christian Bale as a Spider-Man villian? The dude knows how to play evil -- witness American Psycho, the most underrated black comedy of the last 20 years.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9What was wrong about the "so good." line? Honestly? There wasn't anything cheesy about that, it just showed his plan was coming along well. The sun shines brighter when things go your way.
There's better things to nitpick about, like your (SPECIFICALLY YOURS, not figuratively) moms ass hair. - Eccohawk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I actually thought Spidey 3 was fairly entertaining and they did a good job with it. Was it over-the-top at times? yes, the american flag background comes glaringly into view....but overall, I thought it was exactly as it should have been; your basic funny, entertaining action flick. The problem is that most people went in expecting something award-worthy or who knows what...i mean, it's a friggin' comic book movie, comic books are b-books, just like a comic book movie is gonna be a b-movie. (And that's not an insult, just an insight) The only difference here is A-list actors and an A-list budget leave some expecting and wanting more. I knew exactly what to expect from it, and I was perfectly happy with the result. Over-the-top, cheesy, and packed full of story.
Many are complaining about the number of villians as well, and I thought that while, yes, it was a bit 'busy' throughout, that the number of villians was justified. The sandman on his own just isn't a strong enough character to hold up the villian end of a movie plot. And the idea that the other characters wanted face time is probably dead on. Movies, and books, and tv shows, when done right, are never about events and plots, but about the characters that drive them. So Raimi made character development his top priority. And by doing so, he needed to develop plot around the developments of those characters (mary jane, and harry) which then brought in the need for more villians to balance everything.
In the end, i thought it all worked out, others apparently don't agree. - krellor, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12I dunno, I don't think SM 3 problems was villains. Really, he didn't have any one main bad guy, just a bunch of fight scenes that happened to be against different characters. None of them really filled the role of arch villain in the plot. Plus, if you cut out the stupid drama and Saturday night fever clips of parker dancing than you would have had more time. My big problem with SM 3 was you could practically guess how the whole plot would unfold. So predictable.
- Takfam, on 10/11/2007, -8/+14Christopher Nolan? And make it better?
Its funny, I thought exactly the opposite direction. I said to hell with it. Lets just get Bryan Singer and Uwe Boll to do a tag team directing job on the next Spidey movie, put the final nail in the coffin and dump it in a shallow grave. I'm sick of watching my childhood memories raped for Hollywood's amusement. - GMorgan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Now that would be worth any entrance fee. I offer to give my Thetans to Marvel if they do that.
- guitarh3ro, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7You people NEED to quit bitching about "OMG SPIDEY 3 SUX". The whole "Peter and Mary Jane Sittin' in a Tree" storyline helped develop plot. It led up to him becoming an aggressive douchebag.
If he didn't have girl problems, he wouldn't have been as big of a jackass, even with the black suit.
The ONLY THING I was disappointed with was Venom not saying "We"...as well as one or two things about the ending. I also didn't like the whole omlette scene. - mywhitenoise, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6you're joking?
- psbpv3o, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6dukkookim
That made no sense what-so-ever. - tdogg241, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5This is nothing new. Spiderman 3 had a release date before Spiderman 2 even came out, folks. It's a franchise, and a highly successful one at that. They'll keep making Spiderman films until people get tired of them, and then 10-15 years later, they'll "reinvent" the series (see: Superman, Batman, and Rocky to name a few).
- solusdotipse, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Hmm, sounds like we might actually get some Black Cat finally. And can we please get some damn Dr. Connors/Lizard action going. Three movies of teasing is enough.
- Tanishh, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5 I actually liked Spiderman 3 quite a bit. But that's just me. And, after all, I do tend to be rather forgiving when it comes to movies.
- mandarin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Its a superhero movie, its pretty much almost like a B movie. Check out what Bruce Campbell says about B movies in one of his interviews.
- spidoman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3WTF do you think comic books are?
- krellor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Yeah, we call that "dead". The kind of dead that characters come back from, thereby ruing the actual threat of death for the series and diminishing the audiences suspension of disbelief.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3reddevil3
Hob Goblin has yet to appear. And the original Green Goblin comes back from the dead in the comic. Venom can spread himself to other hosts, like The Scorpion. - libertao, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Honestly, I think it could have been pulled off by a better actor. Sorry Tobey, don't cry.
- camknows, on 10/11/2007, -9/+12@eleven
100% agree. Not watching a Spidey 4 unless a team like Christopher Nolan and Co. give Spider-Man a major face-lift. - deltaandroid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Yeah, they showed what he had finally become, and then he's final realization of it, but in the book (which I know is based off of an older script) the fighting bar scenes where way more intense. Also, that dancing scene at the very end, really made it into a soap opera, if they had the traditional "spidey swinging around NY" It would have been better. IMO
- apoc06, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3true, i dont believe the sandman could hold up an entire movie on his own... but, even a semi-decent venom story /should/ have.
- catbertz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I'd guess the actor wanted more face time, claiming that he can show more emotion without the mask.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3...I could do without the eyeliner and emo hair too
- gnslngr1919, on 10/11/2007, -8/+11Most of you guys are going to hate me for this, but I think that the dance/Saturday Night Fever scenes were one of the best parts of this movie.
- Aurra, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6I don't know why she stays with him. I'm sorry, but love just isn't enough to keep a relationship going when one is involved in hostage situation after hostage situation.
- nemrel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'm a BIG fan of them forcing one simple rule if they make anymore Spirderman movies:
NO MORE PETER PARKER CRYING! ESPECIALLY ABOUT HIS UNCLE!
I felt like Alex in Clockwork Orange with my eyes forced open as I sat through the discomfort induced by watching Tobey do that special Tobey crying *****. At least Beethoven wasn't playing the background. - guitarh3ro, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Venom is NOT dead. I guarantee he will be brought back for either 4 or 5, along with Carnage.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4I hope they choose Kraven for this one. Kraven's Last Hunt would make an awesome movie if done correctly.
- pizzatsf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I agree with what you said krellor, and was going to type a well thought out reply, but I'm quite tired. So let me just say nice avatar.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Personally I enjoyed Spiderman 3, sure it had its faults but it had some "ups" as well.
I can't wait for this 4th one though, I am ready for it. - mythandros, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4...red and blue spandex. Have we found spiderman's problem with MJ?
- bluenash, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1and what a mediocre corpse it is too
- tpumile, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I personally love how these people who are complaining about Spiderman 3 obviously never read the comics. Numerous people above have made reference to the Black Cat being in the next film, as if that's a logical conclusion from the information on the Filmwad site. Uhm...Felicia Hardy was the Black Cat, not Gwen Stacy.
Also, I particularly enjoyed the comment about Peter whining too much about his Uncle. Go pick up a Spiderman comic. We're reminded about Uncle Ben at least once every three issues.
What makes Spiderman unique as a comic is that it's as much about a superhero as it is about a superhero who has more problems with his real life than with his superhero life. Half the fun of reading Spiderman when I was a kid was when Peter was being Peter. (And that's why Spidey takes his mask off so much in these films...so the audience can see that there's a human being with emotions under the mask). - CedEx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Well, now we can get Carnage in place of Venom.
