- bahamut182, on 10/12/2007, -9/+81Well, being a worse movie wouldn't effect first day sales. A lot of people had their tickets before Friday, no one knew if it was going to be good or bad.
- EvilAnimator, on 10/12/2007, -26/+84People actually liked Pirates 2? I loved the first, but the 2nd was a mess. Go Saturday Night Fever Peter!
- BrainsVolpe, on 10/12/2007, -6/+60I saw Spider-man 3 at a Thursday midnight showing at Alamo Drafthouse in Austin and had a BLAST...
Because we did the exact same thing. Laughed hysterically at all the wrong places, and the best was by far when "Emo" Peter hits MJ in the Jazz Bar, the entire audience gasped, and then one guy in the back yells "YES!" Needless to say, we all laughed for the next 30 seconds. It was beautiful.
(This movie will always be remembered in my mind for being far better than it was because of the screening. Emo Peter? Laughs. Crying Peter with his "Manning face?" Laughs. Creepy painting of Osburn? Laughs. Harry painting with one arm? Laughs.) - darthsuo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+58They tried to make a ninja movie but every time they tried to start filming, the entire crew was dead and the ninjas were nowhere to be found . . .
- Chakz, on 10/12/2007, -16/+67Where are these theaters where everyone is an ignorant prick?
- TiggyThaiMein, on 10/12/2007, -19/+62I'd pay $58 million just to NOT watch the god awful Tobey Maguire Jazz club dance scene again. Ugh...
- Barryke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+43Irony; of, resembling, relating to, or tasting much like iron
eg1: "The anvil was delicious, but irony."
eg2: This definition of irony - wphj, on 10/12/2007, -29/+70Spiderman 3 went crazy after the first 30 minutes. He went emo and everyone in the theater was laughing at the "serious" parts. When it ended someone yelled "Thank God!" and everyone clapped. Not at the movie, at the fact that it was over.
- Vrail, on 10/12/2007, -5/+37Uh no considering the article is from BBC, a site run in the UK.
- fantasticFlan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Is this the new conflict, pirates vs superheroes?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31Do you even know what irony means?
- Fallout911, on 10/12/2007, -25/+52I liked it.
- da_bradler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21"if it weren't for p2p it would have made 80 million! pirates are ruinning the industry" MPAA spokesmen
- fatdog789, on 10/12/2007, -21/+38I seriously question the judgment of anyone who thought Dead Man's Chest was good. That's like saying that Uwe Boll should win an Oscar for best director.
- Jofaba, on 10/12/2007, -8/+25I just got done doing audio reviews of Spiderman 3. This isn't shameless self promotion since my site's been dead (inactive, no updates in months) and these are direct links. I share them as a Digg community member so you might get a laugh. Warning, the second one contains a spoiler:

Anyway, even if you don't listen to the clips, I hated the movie and I'm a huge fan of the movie series. It's a shame. I can't believe they ruined it. - BenHanby, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Behold the power of marketing.
- missflibbles, on 10/12/2007, -12/+29Any real fan of Spidey will agree? Have you ever picked up a Spider-Man comic?
Spidey of the comics told jokes and generally acted like a wise ass throughout any fight. Where Peter Parker may have been a little nerdy, he wasn't the inept fool the movies make him out to be, and Spider-Man was a genuinely charismatic guy.
Spidey and Peter Parker of the movies is angsty and drab. Peter Parker is inept in nearly all situations, and Spider-Man is really just boring.
The fights in this movie were mediocre at best. The choreography seemed to be alright, but the directing was terrible. You couldn't see what was happening half the time, completely ruining any sense that Spidey was flying through the sky, or some of the really acrobatic things he would do during fights. Part of the appeal to the comic books and the cartoon were the magnificent sense of scale and movement. Spidey is an acrobat. I saw a clunky doofus in the movie.
Man, that's not the Spider-Man I grew to love, I can tell you that. - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21I'm not seeing the irony..
- fredkreuger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17That would be cool, but it will probably be The Lizard.
- Satanael, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18I'm looking forward to Spidey 4, personally... Venom + (hopefully) Carnage
- Slython, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Man this movie was a disappointment, reasons;
Venom was only in it for 20 minutes, and they didn't even change his voice, or say 'we'
Sandman's character was completely useless. They could have made a better film without him.
Symbiote 'Emo' Spider-man was a flipping joke, as he was more sad than bad ass.
Everyone cried.
Crappy soap opera.
not enough action.
Too many flash backs.
Toby Mcguire couldn't even keep himself in decent shape, you could see his double chin through out the entire movie.
Too many plot holes.
Jazz club scene.
Crappy ending.
That's not to say that it didn't have it's positives, which it did (to a certain extent) but it was like someone juggling with to many balls, they all come crumbling down.
I hope to GOD that their is a 4th one, as this definitely did not feel like a good closure to an (almost) awesome trilogy - TB65, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Box Office Mojo has an inflation adjusted all time list, but yeah, they should track number of tix sold, not dollars.
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I just spent 2 hours laughing at this movie. Here are just a few reasons:
1. Kirsten Dunst sings not once but twice.
2. They had a jazz-off in a jazz club.
3. They tried to make Tobey Maguire look bad-ass by putting his hair down.
4. Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst trying to cry at the same time.
5. This quote was actually said, "Find me some shade, long legs."
6. Kirsten Dunst sings.
7. Whoever played the butler was by far the worst actor I have ever seen in a movie.
8. You had to spend the first hour of the movie trying to figure out who the hell the escape convict was, and then they changed an entire plot line just to explain him and add a bad guy.
9. Kirsten Dunst and James Franco do the twist in the kitchen while making an omelete.
10. Spiderman actually runs across the top of a building with the American flag taking up the whole screen in the backgound.
11. Pie, that;s all I have to say.
12. KIRSTEN DUNST SINGS.
I was actually embarassed to be watching this movie a good majority of the time. - jklyon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17I think if they focused on two villains instead of just jamming three in there, it would have made for a better storyline. They shouldn't have had Sandman. Don't get me wrong, that was some ***** amazing special effects. But if they just held off on the whole Ben Parker's real killer story, they could have focused on the hatred, jealousy, and other parts of the movie. They should have NOT had that Jazz Club Scene, or the bit with the eyeliner, hair down, emo scenes + the being cool. That isn't what Parker is about, even with the suit on. It should have shown him struggling with Harry to believe him, struggling to be with M.J, and struggling more with the suit. A lot of the serious parts were comical. Ah, I could go forever on this movie. I'll sum it up: Jammed with amazing special effects and villains, this movie is a sure-choice action movie. If you were looking for a spectacular storyline, don't expect to be amazed.
- BritishGolgo13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13You realized that just now and not at the first unveiling of the PS3? Shame on you.
- Jofaba, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I guess any personal links get dugg down automatically before anyone even visits them. There's zero advertising, zero popups, just straight up mp3 links. I watched the movie, recorded my thoughts on the way home, edited it into a coherent review, then shared it with my community. I thought giving to the community was what this whole thing (Digg) was about?
- UndeadZmobie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15I thought that was the best scene... =(
- BayAreaKing, on 10/12/2007, -14/+26I thought this movie was great. The story, fighting, and CGI was awesome..only thing that I didnt like was the ending... What's with these people who hate it?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11The Lizard will probably play the same role as Harry did in this one.
*spoilers*
Have a fight or two, but come to help him in the end - fischsticks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11From what I hear the midnight showing I was at went the same way. Everyone laughed at MJ getting hit and someone yelled bitch when they kissed. Was anyone else put over the edge between decent movie and horrible movie by the spiderman landing in front of the American flag scene?
The entire theater just went silent with a WTF expression after that, Everyone walking out looked like they had just been raped out of 10 bucks and a night of sleep. - retral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Blammed?
- Sp00nMan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Anyone realize that ticket prices go up throw the years? So this isn't apples to apples with other movies.
- ffejrey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I went to go see Hot Fuzz last night instead. Glad I did, as we were the only ones in the theater
- Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14Oh man, I would have dugg up the root commentor, but he said POTC 2 was amazing....GAG!!!
- supermanred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Do you mean it is written in the same font? What does having the same police have to do with anything? Am I missing in my vocabulary this meaning of the word police?
ARGHHH!!!??? - Med0123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7yea they should calculate it with the number of people viewing the movie...
- jaym104, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I dunno if everywhere is like it is here but they probably had 20 showings of it in one day at the local theater, which makes it rather easy to set records. It's also released in about 1000 more theaters than most movies even 1000 more than 300.
- blankoboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Am I the only one who is completely sick of seeing the star spangled banner in every freaking movie displayed like some whore of brainwashing patriotism?
Sure, we know it's an American film and American's can be proud on their own without it being shoved down their throats. So freaking nauseating. - Bahimiron, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Spidey 3 will shatter summer box office records and will come away from it a champion.
Then two weeks later Pirates 3 will hit and will smash every record Spidey 3 set. - NiLeS, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"Spidey and Peter Parker of the movies is angsty and drab."
That's the point! Read up on Venom.
(ok, I'm done.) - dudefalling, on 10/12/2007, -13/+18I agree, this movie was the best by far. Venom was cool, black suit was cool, the fights were amazing. Any real fan of Spider-man, which is someone who reads the comics and watched the cartoon will agree. The movie follows its own story so I think people are getting confused at some of the changes.
- JohnnyBoy117, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Only $441 million more until they break even...
- walkingdogs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5these stats are stupid. every year the biggest block buster has a chance of beating the previous money intake records as movie tickets keep going up in price. I wish these stats counted actual paying customers which would be a much better gauge of how well each movie does.
- Jofaba, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Next to our Digg names is a timestamp. You posted almost half an hour after my original post recieved immediate burying. So no, I didn't "act like the world was over" when I saw -1. I just thought it was unfair to be at -3 within a minute and growing.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6barryke you are a wild and crazy guy.
- mikochu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6wow, Spider-Man 3 was a load of crap. :
- bastardo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7To measure popularity of a movie, they should count TICKET SALES, not overall money made.
- brian1625, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Ever heard of inflation? Money couldn't tell you how this compares with Gone with the Wind or Star Wars.
- missflibbles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Thank you, I thought I was the only voice of reason here.
No wonder it broke the record. Even my local theatre has jacked up their prices, which have been the same since around 2000. - antongranik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4SP3 sucks!
