- nesagwa, on 09/12/2009, -2/+23Solomon Kane and most other Howard creations predate Tolkiens writing by about a decade.
- arcturussage, on 09/12/2009, -4/+17my first thought was "Is this a LOTR knockoff?"
- Blankcheque, on 09/12/2009, -0/+11The amount of ignorance and ass-hattery surrounding Soloman Kane is surprising.
He's an English Quaker from the late 1700's to early 1800's. A man who traveled to Africa and the new-found America battling evil and demonic forces.
A purpose driven man who hounded rogues and devils across the globe to deliver righteous wrath, and divine destruction to the profane and unholy.
Read the short stories and learn why a holy man with a flint lock pistol, a rapier, and a shamans staff challenges Howard's other creation "Conan" for rights as supreme ***** hole stomper in literary fiction.
All I can say is it's about damn time someone introduced him to pop-culture. - nesagwa, on 09/12/2009, -0/+10Awesome.
On a side note, I hope that this leads to more Conan, Kull and Red Sonya movies based more on the books. - chrisdlee, on 09/12/2009, -0/+9This looks amazing.
Good to see REH get some respect. - RansomHoldiay, on 09/12/2009, -0/+9looks entertaining.
- consterXnation, on 09/12/2009, -0/+8I thought the same thing when that Beowulf movie came out. That whole story was such a ripoff of LOTR, right?
- inactive, on 09/12/2009, -4/+11Van Helsing deja vu.
- orvl, on 09/12/2009, -6/+12Meh...
- inactive, on 09/12/2009, -5/+10I'm going to wrote a movie titled Moses Judas.
- richlw, on 09/12/2009, -1/+6This looks like it's gonna kick ass. But that guy who plays Soloman Kane looks like Christopher Lambert
- digitalArtform, on 09/12/2009, -1/+5Pretty sure it's older than Lord of the Rings - the books
- digitalArtform, on 09/12/2009, -0/+4He's too young and handsome.
Frankly, the guy who says "Solomon, the devil was here" (Pete Postlethwaite) would have been a better casting choice.
I liked the new Star Trek 90210 reboot, but not this time. - scuvball, on 09/12/2009, -1/+5I really hate when the preview gives away the whole movie :(
- JigoroKano, on 09/12/2009, -0/+4Robert E. Howard > J. R. R. Tolkien
- Timpin1, on 09/12/2009, -0/+4well *****..the guy look like thomas jane, who also looks like christoper lambert!
- BasalCellBossk, on 09/12/2009, -0/+4Took me a while to realize it is James Purefoy, the guy who played Mark Antony on the awesome BBC/HBO series 'Rome'. The man is a terrific actor.
- digitalArtform, on 09/12/2009, -2/+5Can't put my finger on why I hate that, but I do.
When I read the Van Helsing / LOTR knockoff comments, I was like wtf? Solomon Kane predates both.
But now that I've seen the trailer - it's true. They somehow managed to take a Robert E Howard story from 1928 about a badass grim pilgrim and turn it into a LOTR / Van Helsing knockoff. - TedTschopp, on 09/12/2009, -0/+3Long story short (to the point of it almost being untrue): Tolkien read many of those books and wanted something deeper and more English. Thus we have what we have.
- MaTT2011, on 09/12/2009, -0/+3I think its because of the bad taste left by van helsing; the "Look" has been ruined by that movie.
So when you see what is, essentially, a character who looks identical its a bit off putting simply because most people will probably associate it with that turd of a movie. - frousfroud, on 09/12/2009, -0/+3James Purefoy stars in the title role. Interestingly enough Christopher Lambert was considered at one point for the role.
- BananaStickers, on 09/12/2009, -0/+3Needs more hobbits.
- MacBandit, on 09/12/2009, -0/+2That doesn't mean it can't remind you of another movie that has already be produced.
- RunningboardV2, on 09/12/2009, -0/+2Tweak/switch out one or two characters and areas and presto! Oblivion the movie! (which I would be more excited about.)
- TwistableLime, on 09/12/2009, -0/+2Bad-*****-ass.
- inactive, on 09/13/2009, -0/+2o is next to the i on the keyboard but thanks for being a douche.
- dn11, on 09/12/2009, -0/+1 they're already remaking Conan. don't have high hopes for it. Brett Ratner was going to direct it... not sure what the current status is.
- frousfroud, on 09/12/2009, -2/+3Hellboy meets the Puritans
- MrOmniscient, on 09/12/2009, -0/+1...uh... not according to IMDb: James Purefoy is in the lead role. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0970452/
- praisethelard, on 09/12/2009, -0/+1I definitely think the LOTR trilogy set a new visual standard for fantasy movies, so it's not surprising to see bits that have been "ripped off" in other fantasy movies.
- TechnoDestructo, on 09/18/2009, -0/+1Too many people only know the Schwarzenegger abomination. A faithful Conan adaptation would have a steep hill to climb.
- Blankcheque, on 09/12/2009, -0/+1Because scenes out of context give the same visual style and don't reflect the source material at all?
Or all these refferences from other movies borrowed liberally from the original?
You pick. - samcobra13, on 09/12/2009, -2/+3Looks like it's going to be *****
- TeCuervo, on 09/14/2009, -0/+1I was being a douche.
I do apologize. - MacBandit, on 09/12/2009, -1/+1May be. May not be. Unless you're a time traveler I doubt you know yet.
- chaseonfire, on 09/12/2009, -1/+1May be. May not be. Unless you can read I doubt you know yet.
- TeCuervo, on 09/13/2009, -1/+1Learn English first... please...
- inactive, on 09/17/2009, -0/+0Why the ***** do they even ask for your age? That is something I hate more than many many things in this world. You really think kids don't know how to lie on a ***** form? It's not your job to protect them, *****!
Also, their ***** thing doesn't even work. Press submit, nothing happens. ***** you, IGN. I hope you spend eternity in hell getting assraped by Satan. - digitalArtform, on 09/12/2009, -3/+2I was wrong. Now that I've seen the trailer. It's true.
They took a story from 1928 and made it into a Van Helsing / LOTR ripoff.
*****. - d2002, on 09/12/2009, -8/+4If they ever make a Diablo movie, it should look exactly like this.
- Timpin1, on 09/12/2009, -5/+1its thomas jane. same guy who played the punisher
- bixel, on 09/12/2009, -8/+3I know this is based on a comic, and in comics you can and do make crazy juxtaposed stuff cause its fun and interesting, however I must ask: A Puritan, Really??
- phenger, on 09/12/2009, -11/+2So....Constantine much?
- arcturussage, on 09/12/2009, -10/+0don't care. Still reminds me of the LOTR movies. I thought the main character was aragon for a while
