- bigpete591, on 10/11/2007, -2/+38Couldn't agree more.
Executive 1: Hey, lets remake the same old ***** because we know our audiences will buy anything that is familiar to them!
Executive 2: Brilliant! - heynow21, on 10/11/2007, -7/+39Shrek 3, Spiderman 3....stop going to see this ***** and maybe they'll start making better movies.
- sjbdallas, on 10/11/2007, -3/+35I would expect to see a drastic fall as we saw with spiderman though. My kid saw shrek friday and said it wasn't that good. Almost boring at times where the other 2 were not.
- Thater, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24plato: Jokes on you! Shrek 3 was written by Ron Paul to protest the war and rendered with Linux... and YOU paid to see it.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+28Took my wife and daughter; Wasn't very good (about half as good as 1 and/or 2). Wait for the video.
- JeffH, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19Totally undeserved. The first Shrek was a masterpiece. Shrek 2 was okay and this one just went way downhill.
They shoulda just left it at number 1 (same with Toy Story). I wish people like...say, everyone who saw Shrek 3 this weekend, would stop supporting mediocrity (especially in the form of sequels).
I guess it's time to brace myself for Shrek 4, which will be worse than Shrek 3, and for sure will break all the records Shrek 3 made. - Jrr6415sun, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15"On the same note as sjballas...the third movie for shrek and spiderman sort of have to be that way, with the boring spots in the movie, I mean there's just really not that much storyline left...shrek wrapped everything up pretty nicely in the last one, and spiderman basically ended when MJ found out Peter was spiderman in the second one."
I can agree that there's not much of a storyline left for Shrek... but are you kidding me about spiderman? There are what like over 400 different comic book stories and hundreds of villians. Mary Jane is not the only love that Peter has. Unless they have a horrible writer/director there is plenty more spiderman stories to tell. - Kokichi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13Toy Story 2 was a great movie. Not many sequels can be considered better than the original, and Toy Story 2 could definitely fall into that category.
Hopefully Pirates 3 won't suck. This year was the year of 3's....but so far, it's been really disappointing... - crazybrit, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13Or you could have just let people digg you up.
- RomulusX86, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11For the people that loved the first two, this one lacked in complex story telling, don't get me wrong though, most of it was good, just not near the level of the first two. In my mind the 2nd one was the pinnacle of the series.
- Gogara, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Pixar didn't want to make a toy story 2. AFAIK, they were pressured into doing it, but ended up doing a reasonably good job so as not to totally ruin the first.
- Seidoger, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8>The movie now holds the record for biggest first weekend for an animated film in box office history."
Such statements are irrelevant now.
In North-America, movie audience is measured at how much money the movie generated, instead of how many people went to see the actual thing (which would be a much more logical scale).
Movie tickets prices keep going up.. So we see NEW RECORD every couple months.. Starting to get old..
My $0.02 - Thater, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I get the distinct feeling hdtvdust is employed by a certain studio.
- ricree, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7"I guess it's time to brace myself for Shrek 4, which will be worse than Shrek 3, and for sure will break all the records Shrek 3 made."
I'm sure it will get made, but I wouldn't be so confident in it being an overwhelming success. A movie's success, especially in the first weekend, has a lot to do with how good the previous movie was. While some people were less than enthusiastic, most people seemed to really enjoy Shrek 2. From everything I've heard, this will likely not be the case for this movie, so even though this one will certainly make tons of money, it will have a negative financial impact on any future movies in the Shrek series. - quomen, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/shrek_the_third/
43% at rotten tomatoes.. I guess the franchise already has such an appeal that it will still make tons of people watch it.. Like spidey 3, and matrix 3, and the starwars sequels.
=/ - KnightMareInc, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9too bad much like spider-man 3, it isnt as good as the first two.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I want to know how these movies are making so much money, I mean the MPAA has convinced me that we all pirate all movies. In any case, I saw Shrek the Third and I have to say, although I loved it, the first 2 movies were in fact better. There were too many little music cues(soundtrack tie-in) and the jokes are now played out versions of what was original in the other 2. Like I said, I loved it, but I can see where the criticisms are coming from.
- Scheissen, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6"brilliant"
- crazybrit, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6@themastersb:
Hot Fuzz is amazing. Not sure if it's still playing anywhere though. - D3koy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4spoiler alert....
- tektalk, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6I watched shrek 3 yesterday, it was alright. Not the best but it was pretty funny at times.
- drum_bum, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5deserved it? did we see the same version of Spider-man 3?
- AmishRefugee, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5@sjbdallas
big movies almost perfectly follow the rule of making half as much every consecutive weekend of being out, so Shrek 3 will probably make around $61 million. If I remember correctly, Spiderman 3 did this pretty closely
oh and nice rickroll APHughes. - ers35, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4You're in luck then as it has already been released by three groups.
- charliecharlos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Antonio Banderas already said that there will be at least 5 movies in the Shrek series... oy vey
- D3koy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5/me waits for it to come up on the internet, as always
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+7This kind of blind moronic support for the third installment of a great movie is why Hollywood makes such horrible and unoriginal movies.
- Narwaffle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+23 seems to be the haunted number when it comes to movie sequels.
- BuddyDoQ, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@dantetheinferno
Count your self lucky, as major city ticket prices are normally in the $10-12 range. - HanSolo69, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2man, i didn't even notice it came out this weekend. for all i knew there wasn't even a movie coming out, just collectible glasses at McDonald's.
- hotmamahere, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22 adult tickets @ 9.50 each = $19.00
1 child ticket = $ 6.50
popcorn / coke / etc. = $10.00
My child acting like a turd (normally does great in theater), some dumbass letting her kid kick my husband's seat 3 times during the movie, plus the pure suckiness of this plotless, random,
pile of crap = I would pay a large amount of money to have that 1 1/2 hours of my life back. - nogami, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I wasn't all that impressed. It was fun, but didn't have the same energy level as 1 and 2.
They have too many characters now, and trying to give them all equal screentime has weakened the movie. Unlike the first two movies, they also have 2 groups of characters (3 if you count the villains) working towards their goals, which results in quite a bit of cutting back and forth between groups, which weakens the characters all-around.
I also found the Shrek - baby - fatherhood plotline weak. Same tired old cliche about the father feeling trapped and panicked when he finds out, and the mother not saying anything about being pregnant for fear of upsetting him. - ThePixelator, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Has anyone here seen it? If you haven't, don't, because unlike the first two (which were hilarious) this one is actively boring. It seems like the producers go out of their way to bore you. Trust me, it sucks.
- dynatos, on 10/11/2007, -5/+7Good for you. Here's a cookie, fat ass.
- boredallas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Maybe Pirates 3 will break this summers record $ setting *****-fest. Hopefully it's not like the Matrix and is getting progressively worse. They're 2/3 of the way there.
- jwcelement, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Figures like this is what makes me curious as to how the movie industry is losing mass amounts of money because of pirating. It seems they break records every year anymore.
- Dantetheinferno, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@ Dag
Who has to pay 12$ a ticket?!?
Mine are like, 6$. - FattyRooster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Factoring in higher admission prices, "Shrek the Third" also drew more fans — 18 million — than did "Shrek 2," which pulled in 17.4 million people over opening weekend.
- TheProtested, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1so, you took your girlfriend to shrek because...
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/11/2007, -7/+8is Sunday not considered the weekend? Or are these numbers just usually Friday/Saturday? Anyway Shrek 3 may not have been the best Shrek but it was still funny and entertaining. Although i'm not a little kid, I had a good time. It was definitely better than Spiderman 3.
- DreamVsPs2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I saw it. While it was good, it wasn't near as good as Shrek 1 and 2.
- Cory70, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1only good sequel in movie history is star wars. thats it the jedi's used the force to stop any other sequels from being good

Its a fantastic feeling. - ElectricGrandpa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yeah, there's Spiderman 3 and Shrek 3... But don't forget Rush Hour 3, Ocean's 13, and Pirates of the Caribbean 3... Lots of Threequels ;)
- ricree, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@cory70
Godfather 2 - crazydudex, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Shrek 3 did not deserve this. I really disliked it. I had a few laughs, but it really got boring and lackluster. Spiderman 3 was MUCH better. I hope Pirates destroys both of them next weekend though. Got my tickets for thursday at 8:00 PM.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2yea srsly
- mousky, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1What did the movie promise? To bore people? I found myself nodding off during this movie. I liked the first two movies, but the third instalment was a dud. It was not funny and the story line was poorly written. The kids in the movie theatre did very little laughing themselves. My three year old who sat still for Cars was fidgety during this movie meaning that the movie was not holding his attention.
