- gulpy, on 10/11/2007, -13/+118Well, it really depends why they are virgins...
I really don't want to see a movie involving 72 fat women... - CanceledCzech, on 10/11/2007, -5/+86Yes, but mostly because I really just want to see the public reaction.
- rusty075, on 10/11/2007, -1/+55@filmbandit:
Have you never seen Life of Brian? - Vicissidude, on 10/11/2007, -3/+56This isn't making fun of Islam, but rather the extremists who use that religion to justify their poor behavior. Frankly, those nuts could use someone making fun of them. They take themselves way too seriously.
Watch the video. It starts out slow, but it actually has some funny scenes in there. I say they should make it. - ZennZero, on 10/11/2007, -6/+56I will give you a hint. It will involve mass protests, burning effigies/flags and calls to stone the infidels to death. Did I spoil it?
- tekrat, on 10/11/2007, -10/+52They've made bad parodies on other religious topics, why Islam?
- swordedge, on 10/11/2007, -6/+42no, anyone with half a brain knows that the Muslim world is utterly unable to take any criticism. Oh, and your descriptions is only the first hour. Deaths start in the second hour of film release.
- Boshow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+34If they do make it, I'm sure it will be very dumb. Much like 90% of National Lampoon movies. There are only like a handful of good ones.
- 10001110101, on 10/11/2007, -4/+30I think that everyone has a "National Lampoon reader" stereotype in their head.. Given that, am I the only one that's surprised that 75% of the respondents said "No"?
- evilesttoast, on 10/11/2007, -3/+28@swordedge
I prefer to think that thy got nothing - quiksliver, on 10/11/2007, -2/+24I want this to be made just to watch people get all bent out of shape over it...
I have nothing on islam i swear to allah :D - mandarin, on 10/11/2007, -5/+27Why do they keep making these movies? No one cares about this crap anymore.
- ripstuntz, on 10/11/2007, -11/+32HAHAHA YES! Can't wait to see this.
- MadScientist420, on 10/11/2007, -4/+24@Ryan
You do realize you're comparing today with 400 years ago right? Actually you've managed to hit the nail on the head...The religion Islam and most of the Islamic countries are in fact 400 years behind the times...
Anyway, as much as I would like to see this, there is no way in hell that they'll make it. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20Multiply the Danish cartoon protests by 100 and you got your answer.
- fakeaccount1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18comment abuse but this is interesting/ kinda funny: I'm Persian. The people in this clip actually speak Persian (Iranian - Farsi) and not Arabic like most terrorists. I was mildly offended by the switch because as far as I know there has never been an Iranian terrorist who has struck a western target (at least not yet).
Point: The actual dialog between the bearded guys was different than what the translation in the subscripts read.
Subscript: They are a gift from Allah
Actual: These "sister *****" (common insult) are presents from Allah
Subscript:Idiot infidels who can carry out our mission
Actual: We're gonna strap bombs onto them and "***** up their sisters" (common insult)
Subscript: But it's my turn to martyr! I want to martyr!
Real: Unintelligible babbling
...
slight difference; I made the effort to type it just because digg can do that. - Livewire, on 10/11/2007, -4/+21@spartan777 (#7153415)
The Quran mentions nothing about 72 virgins. It's a myth that's been repeated so many times that people believe it's a fact. Here are three different translations of the verse from where this myth originated from:
055.056
YUSUFALI: In them will be (Maidens), chaste, restraining their glances, whom no man or Jinn before them has touched;-
PICKTHAL: Therein are those of modest gaze, whom neither man nor jinni will have touched before them.
SHAKIR: In them shall be those who restrained their eyes; before them neither man nor jinni shall have touched them.
that's it. No mention of the number 72 anywhere. period.

educate yourself; you'll see how much you'll stop hating others for what group they belong to, or in other words: stereotyping. - AppleTamer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16You know, if this movie was in the right hands and was realized as a ***** comedy when it was being made, it could have been really funny. There are two ways this movie could be really funny
1.) If it went out of it's way to have the two main characters be the stereotypical but hyperbole-ed college kids, but have everything else be really down-to-earth (think Hank and Dean of the Venture Bros, where they still live in the 60s campiness while everyone else is based in reality and think the bros. are weird,) not only making fun of their past movies, but making fun of how absurd living is at this moment.
OR
2.) If the comedy in the movie is so over the top and generic that it becomes almost like a formulaic Rodney Dangerfield film, ending with an Al-Qaeda pool party with Journey playing in the background. Making a hot-button situation a comedic romp from the 80s, filled with cliches and 4th wall breaching to actually make it stupidly entertaining.
But since National Lampoon has done little of worth in 20 years, we'll be seeing the crappy-ass, straight-to-DVD, excuse-to-see-boobs movie we've come to expect. I hate you, Hollywood. - GoldenChild1, on 10/11/2007, -4/+18I completely agree. This is a pretty controversial idea, and I would certainly watch the movie.
- SteveCUBE, on 10/11/2007, -4/+17National Lampoon movies are terrible films. This one seems even worse...
- MasterThief117, on 10/11/2007, -7/+19I said no. Not because I am offended or anything, but the plot sounds ***** retarded.
- Pause, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13They started to go down the tubes after they made the last Griswolds. Man, those movies were great.
- tehpwnrate, on 10/11/2007, -4/+16Christmas Vacation is one of the funniest movies I've seen. I haven't seen any of the new ones though, so I can't comment on National Lampoon's recent performance.
"Grace? She died years ago!"
"They want you to say Grace. THE BLESSING!"
"Ohh! I pledge allegiance..." - benmandude, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Make it and see how many people even watch it. It will be a huge failure.
- superrcat, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11National Lampoon should stick to the Vacation movies.
- hoovcluck, on 10/11/2007, -4/+13Hopefully they got the interpretation correct, you would hate to get to heaven to realize it said 72 Virgils.
You sure got a pretty mouth!
*Robin Williams live on broadway - cinemaniac1979, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11The real question is "Should National Lampoon keep making movies period?"
Usually comedies are funny, guys... You might want to try that with your 72 direct-to-video releases every year. - MrFlesh, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Hey we got life of brian and mel brooks history of the world makin fun of the inquisition why not?
- cogitocogito, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10I think a National Lampoon's Saudi Vacation movie would be awesome.
Picture Clark knocking over the pillars of Mecca (a la Stonehenge),
Ellen doing a striptease for Clark that somehow gets broadcast to all of Riyadh.
Rusty hitting on some veiled chicks in front of their families
Audrey corrupting morals all over the place.
A laugh riot! (and a group beheading would be a proper ending to the series) - D3koy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12Consider this:
That was one image, let's say this is a 90 minute movie with 40 frames per second (a guess)
So multiply the reaction from the danish cartoon by 216000... (90 mins. x 60 seconds per minute x 40 fps)
and that's not to mention the audio....
That should give you a rough estimate.... - AnotherBrian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9To be fair to National Lampoon, their source material is pretty retarded too.
- grimreaperev, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11By beating them up, your only as bad as they are. Hypocrisy at it's best.
- thewebguy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7it's 41 / 58 now
- timusca, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9This one would rate right up there with "Pledge This", starring Paris "Behind-Bars-But-Probably-Not-For-Long" Hilton.
- oonix, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Whenever someone mentions 72 virgins I like to bring to light the truth about virgins in heaven according to Islam. Digg me down if you don't like the truth or if you have ill feelings towards Muslims, but here it is:
In Islam the concept of virgins is given as an illustration that *anyone* can get *anything* in heaven, including virgins (men or women)... (the number 72 is an error in translation.. its actually infinite as heaven is eternal, you get whatever you want whenever you want forever, literally - why would heave/paradise be any less??). Likewise, hell is also illustrated with similar ideas, ie: a fire that is 70 times hotter than earthly fire, (again that number in arabic is given as a figure of speech, like when we say "this restaurant is a 100 times better than the other one!") ... just a figure of speech.
Now, for a person who thinks that he/she will be led to heaven by taking the life of an innocent person or a defenseless person or someone not on the offensive or even a simple tree for no reason, is extremely misled and only invoking the wrath of god. Furthermore, suicide is explicity forbidden for which the punishment is eternal hellfire - there can be no debate on this issue as it is very clearly stated. Any Islamic sheikh or mullah or whoever feels that suicide is acceptable under certain conditions is going agianst the teachings of Islam and will be held accountable for such a perversion of the truth. - grimreaperev, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10@ryan - You're right that Christians had trouble accepting ANY new concept back then - but so did mostly every religion. I think what swordedge is saying is right, Islam isn't up to par with the equality and acceptingness shown by most people from other religions in the current century. Nobody denies that Christianity or any other religion was that harsh at one point in time, people just need to see that things need to be interpreted more openly (especially in Islam).
I don't want to drag on and ruin the point I've made but I feel some people might want an example: 6,000 year old Earth isn't accepted by all of the Christian community, People argue one day in the bible could be "x" amount of years. When we go over to Islam people issue and carry out death threats because their daily 5 prayers are done at different times (Sunnis believe that they should be at ___ times while shia believe they should be at ___ times of the day). - MadScientist420, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7You might be on to something. I would pay about $2.50 to see that movie.
- BobSutan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8I say go for it. Postal is being made and looks like it has humorous scenes intertwined with the 9/11 attacks Yes, it's in poor taste. But what you need to realize is that it'll still get you to laugh (although feel wrong for doing so). The bottom line is that it's time these movies come out so we can start moving past 9/11 the tragedy and look back at 9/11 the event in history. Its not much different than the first films that came out about Pearl Harbor and the early days of WW2.
- johnhummel, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10Hell yes! Think about how many things to make jokes about:
1. Stupid Muslims. No, not *all* Muslims are stupid, but anyone who says "Hey, I get 72 virgins and into heaven by killing people! Score!" Every Muslim I work with is sick of these guys (it's like judging all Christians based on the KKK).
2. Stupid government, like "We have to curtail liberties to protect freedoms! Stop the brownies!" (Heck, there's a joke right there as they invade a girl scout troops).
3. Stupid conservatives and stupid liberals.
Make it like a nuclear joke bomb: make fun of everybody and how stupid they are, and let God sort them out. - actorboy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9@ D3koy
29.97 frames per second...straight to video. - redneckblues, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Movie theaters run at 24 fps.
- clander, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Six credited writers? A guarantee of a TERRIBLE film.
- seanc6610, on 10/11/2007, -0/+554% Yes / 45% No right now.
Looks like digg has turned the tides - cogitocogito, on 10/11/2007, -5/+10This should be fatwalarious!
- richiestang78, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I have to agree, Muslims are as fair game as everyone and everything else. If they have a problem with it too bad.
- jellygraph, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5seems like the typical level of humour expects of a national lampoon from the last couple of them anyhow... why should this be particularily problematic? no biggie
- ZachRetox, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Iam4real: "no, not because it's to edgy, because it looks terrible"
Couldn't have said it better myself. - nofx1510, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The preview looks completely retarted, its seems as National Lampoon has ran out of ideas for movies so instead they will just rip on religions instead....
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Well it sounds god aweful. But I'm always for releasing something instead of holding it back. So they should do it. I won't see it cuz National Lampoon is rarely even chuckle-worthy, but I'm in favor of it being released.
- foxymcfox, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3A friend of mine asked Chevy Chase whether there were going to be any more adventures for the Griswolds, and he said that he's been trying to pitch "Swiss Family Griswolds" for years now. Apparently, National Lampoon didn't like the idea, but if you ask me, it sounds brilliant.
