    As a college-educated hipster, I am insulted that you would accuse me of liking anything, let alone a film that didn't involve subtitles, mise en scene, awkward families whining, or taboo subject matter.
  • ShaveTheWhales, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2This was a pretty crap list. They missed all the swingin' eurospy movies that came out in the 60s (eg Danger: Diabolik). And what about midget Bond movies (For Your Height Only, The Impossible Kid)?

  • vaccumpony, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2I dunno about that. I reread the first six or seven bond books before Casino Royale came out (up to, but not including Thundarball. I had had enough at that point). I realised that the books just aren't that good. The best of those that I reread were Moonraker and Dr No. Casino Royale (the book) is slow and not terrible interesting. The absolute worst was the second, Live and Let Die (it was downright boring).
    The thing about bond was that Flemming was never trying to be realistic, but was trying to be somewhat sensational. The movies just took it to a new level.
    As far as mid-century cold war spy fiction goes, I'll stick with len Deighton.

    I miss the James Bond played by Roger Moore: self-effacing, suave, funny, a womanizer.
