- NekoFever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4ALL DVDs have an MSRP of $30, but nowhere sells them for that much because there's a bit of a price war going on. I'm buying this whatever the price just because I loved it and it deserves to make more than the crap that was Revenge of the Sith.
- Guano, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3johcha, Firefly (the series) lived a too short life on Fox (those guys are idiots) because is wasn't known by many. It should have been much bigger, though because of the excellent writing, character development, and action. It got really popular, mostly by word of mouth, when it came out on DVD (when I discovered it). Bottom line is Fox did a crappy job of promoting it. Got picked up by Universal, they were planning on making three films but it looks like that might not happen now.
- rebal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's just the MSRP. Most stores won't charge that much. Revenge of the Sith has the same MSRP and you can get it for $15.
- SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Serenity isn't over-hyped at all. Exactly the opposite, it is one of the most under-hyped movies in years. I know you might not believe this, but Digg isn't the whole world. Just because some over-enthusiastic Serenity fans keep posting everything Serenity related to Digg doesn't mean the world has seen it or even heard of it. This is a movie that deserves to be up there with the original star wars trilogy in greatness. Not in innovation but in solid story telling with enjoyable characters, plus it's just damned fun to watch. I myself am getting sick of all the Serenity madness on Digg, but I could watch the show and the movie all day.
- Gorbash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Serenity may not be overhyped in general, but it sure as hell has been overhyped on this site. AND IT'S NOT EVEN FRIGGEN TECH NEWS! Once again, I direct people to a part of this site that actually TELLS you to "...follow a few simple guidelines to make digg a better place" and then immediately says "Quality Technology Content: Is your story technology related?" http://www.digg.com/submit" ~ Family Guy
Guess you never submitted a story. There is an option selection for Movies. And I've nver once heard this promoted as a tech news site. It is a social bookmarking site. Keyword Social. - chrisluby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm not a super fan, nor an apologetic towards Whedon, but It's only fair to base opinions on things that you have personally experienced, or seen. Only young children make snap judgments based on what they hear from others, or what they see on TV. Instead of just posting negative comments for the sake of seeing your words appear on the magic box, try to come up with something a bit more constructive rather than just comment for the sake of commenting.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm going to buy this even though I don't watch DVDs. I really hope Serenity will do very well on DVD sales, and make a profit, so more movies in the same vein will get a chance to see daylight.
- SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This movie is in the IMdB top 250 movies of all time ranking. I would hardly call that a "horrible" movie. What movie did you see Mongoose? Did it move too fast for you? Weren't able to keep up? Did you even see it?
- gronne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This means you could actually watch Serenity on your iPod!
(75% of Digg users heads just exploded) - itzac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It just goes to show how important marketing is to the success of a film. Or TV series. They screwed up when they first aired the series, showing the second episode as the pilot to confuse anyone who wanted to watch it, and then proceeding to air the rest of the series on Friday nights. Then they just didn't market the movie. The executives behind all of this just didn't have the balls to take a risk on what anyone who's seen Firefly or Serenity will tell you was a SURE THING!!!!!111eleven.
The success of CSI should have been a hint that there is in fact a market for intelligent and witty content in theatres and homes. Instead we have The Rock bringing in more box office cash with an eye-brow wiggle than an entire production team with hours of great writing and acting. - ImaFraud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thirty bucks.. big deal. If they make enough money on this, they will most assuredly make a sequel.
/Buying two - Ravenlock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dug because I didn't know it, I wanted to know it, and now I do know it. Thanks, OP.
As for the movie being a flop, as xenonflux pointed out so well, if sales indicate a good film then Doom was better than most of the movies you like. Feel free to keep panning the film without seeing it, though. Your loss. - ILL_Robinson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Serenity is finally coming out on DVD! Where it belongs....
- psyonide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"So... what movies aren't over rated?"
In the history of cinima, every time a movie is rated well by others, there are always those who are more than happy to climb onto the nearest podium and say it's over-rated.
So, short answer, all good movies are overrated. - jawsomemax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i loved the movie.. and will make sure to buy the dvd to be able to support firefly!!
- xenoNfluX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Oh god... why do you guys keep digging Serenity related items. The movie failed horribly. Get over it."
Sales does not a good movie make. Star Wars prequels, anyone?
Serenity got rave reviews, but flopped. Why? Number one reason was that it didn't have any major actors. Doom did fairly well because it has The Rock. Welcome to reality. - teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Seriously, I agree with dperrin. It seems a bit overrated... Along with Star Wars, Harry Potter.... the list goes on. *sigh*"
Id you say that it means you havent seen it, which means you DONT have an opinion. - vanlandw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0waiting for the two disk...looks like a nice disk for christmas though.
- Brereton55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cool cant wait
- Jeebugorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0interesting.....BUT you can get the whole season of firefly for $29 at amazon/deepdiscountdvd/bestbuy (in store). 13 hours for $29 or 2 hours for $29...hmmmmmmmm *cough*price gouge*cough cough*
- techietown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i myself haven't seen the movie, i want to see it legally, not torrented, and i'm guessing alot of people didn't like it because they most likely never saw an episode, or just aren't sci-fi fans.
- cr0wbar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I will buy it first day on sale. I hate the fact that since people want it to be popular because they enjoy it and want others to, people take that as a challenge to hate it.
- bwmiller72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe this was covered in a previously dugg Serenity story. But who exactly is the girl on the movie poster and DVD cover? Is she River? If so, she doesn't look sweet and innocent like she usually does. Maybe that's the whole idea. This is just driving me crazy is all. :) Does anyone know?
- Tr176, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i'm sorry but really i hated this movie... i never liked the series either... so i ended up making fun of it the entire time i was at the theater... it was actually a fun night
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0will buy dvd. will watch over and over. :)
- sabster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0can someone tell me what is up with this movie and why everyone seems to like it from this website? i guess i will have to see it..
- Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Um...this doesn't count as news? I dunno but it sounds like news to me. I am sure as hell gonna buy it. Only downloaded the show cuz I couldn't find the box set anywhere around me.
- Talus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't wait to buy this one.
- techietown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well i know this'll probably be amoung the very few movies in my collection that i'll actually pay for :), and of course office space extra special edition.
- idiggeverything, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5"On the same date, it will be released on torrentspy for free. $30 is a lot for a DVD 8|"
Cheap bastard. Ask your mom for some money. I gave her some last night, so you should be able to get it. - Topaz420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really enjoyed the movie a great continuation of the series, i hope they make another (movie or series)
- infra172, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why does a two hour movie cost almost as much as a 13 episode tv season? WTF is wrong with these people?
- johcha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What's the history on Serenity? Why is there such a big deal about it in tech circles?
- Stopher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hold the valley people! Buy a Serenity DVD.
- newbietheatre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Summer looks mad hot on the cover!
- Ballad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Serenity coming out on DVD? This is excellent news, and if its successful there just might be a couple sequels after all. Because of the fan response in the two prescreenings of the unfinished Serenity (both had standing ovations), Universal ADDED close to 15 million dollars to the budget. Bearing that in mind, the movie already made a small profit if they didn't add the extra amount. Joss Whedon is well known for producing some amazing things with budget restrictions (Buffy the Vampire Slayer seasons 1-3), and if the DVDs sell as good as the Firefly boxsets have, there would probably be a couple sequels--just with a smaller budget at worst.
- boscorelle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this dvd is a must BUY -- not must torrent
- thinbegin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0serenity is the BigMo**erF**k*r of good current sci-fi. right then. so i guess that anyone who's a dissin' wants to step outside? yeah. that's what i thought.
ps: kaleb plucked zander's eye out! that's messed up! - techietown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ya, have ep III, saw it in theatres too, but it just isn't as good as the originals, hopefully the tv show is better :-)
- BigT4187, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sweet!!
- Madgoldfish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pick up the episode III DVD. It shows how DVD's should be made.
- Durrok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Mongoose is obviously smelling what the rock is cooking
- Madgoldfish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0STAR WARS REPRESENT!!!! Enough serenity. Digg has ruined the movie.
- jk_baller23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great, I loved the movie. I am definitely going to get it. Yeah, the MSRP may be $30, but that isn't what it is going to be sold for. If so, online is always cheaper. But, great to know.
- brandonhines, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Holy crap! Less than 90 days later? Wow.
- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree, it isn't overrated, but just undersold. As this will probably be the last installment in the series, no more movies and no more TV shows, so I'll buy this and have to content myself with what I have.
- Drenet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0SUMMER GLAU AKA RIVER TAM DOES NOT HAVE BLUE EYES! IT IS NOT HER ON THE COVER!
- WelnTaod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"this dvd is a must BUY -- not must torrent"
He says this like most of us aren't planning on doing both!? - techietown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it sure looks like river to me. and i do agree, she does look different(compared to how she does on the show)

What is Digg?
