- fuzzyllama, on 07/01/2009, -2/+15Nice title. I was expecting something else and it involved Megan Fox.
- inactive, on 07/01/2009, -1/+11I hope the shootouts are reminiscent of HEAT, such a great film.
- ejpusa, on 07/02/2009, -1/+9Just saw it. I thought it was great. Johnny pulls it off. Michael Mann with experimental HD does some awesome camera work. It's going to be a biggie I'm sure. 5 PM sold out in Manhattan.
- Supernova36, on 07/02/2009, -1/+8I really enjoyed it, but the film looked horrible. The handheld work was not good, the lighting was odd, there was a lot of blue on sudden movement, and it looked distractingly 'digital'. Its hard to describe, but it had the same feel as the unpolished deleted scenes on dvds.
I can't be the only one who noticed it? I'm sure it will look fine on a regular TV, just in the cinema it looked cheap and rather like a student film. (I am talking in terms of the way it was shot, not the content, which as I said, I enjoyed.) - GeorgeStone2, on 07/02/2009, -0/+6Saw it last night.
The trailer made it look like an action film but it was most certainly a drama.
While this makes sense from a bean counters perspective I think this will effect scores on user submitted review sites.
If you go and watch it, expect a drama and you will see a pretty good film. Expect an action film and you will be disappointed. - Midou, on 07/02/2009, -0/+6I found the first half to be pretty boring outside 2 or 3 pretty awesome scenes, but the 2nd half made up for it, great film overall. There were a few issues with the digital filming, and a bit too much shaky cam even on.. scenes where people are just standing.
- stubear, on 07/02/2009, -0/+6I am excited to see this film, not because it's about Dillinger, but because of his nemesis, Melvin Purvis, the FBI agent that took him down (amongst other notorious gangsters of the time). I know his son, Alston Purvis. While I was studying graphic design at Boston U. under Alston I learned about his family history and not long after I graduated he published a book about his father (shameless book plug: http://www.amazon.com/Vendetta-Special-Dillinger-H ... It was a fascinating read to say the least and when I saw the trailer for this film I was excited. Not that anyone needs any more proof of Hoover's egomania, this book highlighted a lesser known aspect of it.
- endgame, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4Michael Mann is such an awesome director/producer. I really enjoy all his films. I think Heat & Collateral are my two favorites though.
- CaviMike, on 07/02/2009, -1/+4Damn I gotta see this. And no waiting for dvd release either, I gotta see this in a theatre.
- Nairebis, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Film *can* be higher quality, but in practice, by the time you see it in the theater, the quality has been significantly reduced by repeated viewing. What digital brings to the table is consistency.
- Recluse84, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Saw this last night and I was a little dissapointed. Felt like they had to cut a few scenes that made it hard to follow at times unless you really knew the history of these characters. I love how they portrayed Dillinger though, Johnny Depp rocked it as usual, as did Bale.
- Balanced, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Digital doesn't degrade with transfers, though. So it's better for certain things, certainly.
- ultimusgt, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1saw it yesterday i thought it was great
johnny depp obviously did great, but i really like christian bales performance i thought he did a awesome job with that character - ilbbaicl, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Geisha Tommy Gun!
- Moocowz, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Did Michael Bay direct this?
- shlebede, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Well, it's based on the real dudes, so it's not much of a surprise, is it?
Plus it's Michael Mann, everyone always dies. - CivicTV, on 08/14/2009, -0/+2He also is a good writer (he did the screenplay for Heat). Manhunter has to be one of my favorites (another screenplay he wrote). They were suppose to come out with a Heat video game, I dunno if that is still in the works or not.
- Mujokan, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1Read this recent Vanity Fair article about Johnny Depp if you want to feel like your life sucks.
http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/features/2009/07 ... - vze29tgr, on 07/02/2009, -2/+3just saw the movie too, loved it.
- nicksource, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1Way to go and spoil it for others dick head.
- spiralspirit, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1not a machine gun, but thanks.
- Tanktunker, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1Even Johnny Depp?
:( - Sherman901, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1Yeah, some scenes looked like the kind of equipment they use for soap operas or something. It's hard to explain, you just have to watch it. I thought the movie was awesome though, really good crime epic.
- coolio911911, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1i expected action, and look where that got me... decent movie.
- Sherman901, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1Exactly. I thought it was going to be an action film but then halfway through I was like "Hold on a sec, this isn't very action-y." Great movie, though.
- DirtPile, on 07/02/2009, -1/+2HI MICHAEL JACKSON HERE!
- DirtPile, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1'Benny & Joon' is a great film.
- Freckled, on 07/02/2009, -1/+1definitely not worth the price of a ticket or the time spent in the cinema. the camera gave me a headache and the sound effects were pretty badly done. i was expecting so much more from such a great cast... the movie was a huge disappointment!
- BedPost, on 07/02/2009, -1/+1I hated the camera work, personally. Unnecessarily shaky-cam at completely random points in the movie reminded me that I was actually watching a movie, and had me thinking more about the camera guy than what was happening on-screen. I thought it seriously detracted from the movie.
- mrufrufin, on 07/02/2009, -0/+0Wouldn't seduction by machine gun be rape?
- YoThisBAlec, on 07/02/2009, -2/+1You had me at "KCHAK"
- n3demonic, on 07/02/2009, -3/+2"Say Hello to my little friend"
- brainboy7777, on 07/02/2009, -9/+6Dude, what the ***** are you talking about? This is a pretty bad movie. The story sucks. The actions sequences suck. The characters suck. I could never really connect to Johnny Depp; his role as Robin Hood never really gets emphasized. The movie's super long, yet it seems that there's really little content. There is no reason why Christian Bale should be in this because his character could be played by any actor. In fact, Christian Bale would play a better Dillinger than Johnny Depp. On paper that may sound insane, but Johnny Depp really phoned it in on this movie. Heat was a lot better than this, and even Heat doesn't compare to better gangster movies like The Departed
- Grinty, on 07/02/2009, -5/+1Michael Jackson
- inactive, on 07/02/2009, -5/+1lol it was a JOKE!! in what movies does literally EVERYONE DIE?
plus i havent seen it.. little lie.. - TylerDuhrdan, on 07/02/2009, -6/+1I love the 2 references to "Digital" this guy uses, first one being "Shot in high-definition digital" and the second one being "Shot in digital".
This clown must be full retard. Film is always going to be higher quality than Tape/Drive/flash/ssd/etc. - inactive, on 07/02/2009, -12/+2just seen the movie EVERYONE DIES!!
