You die-hard ex-Scio, ARS cognoscenti types can do better than that, really. For all the effort involved in producing a feature, you could have done a decent doco just as easily. Or you could have fictionalized 100 stories better than this one.
If you're going to have any luck against the Cult, you need to be at least as slick if not slicker than they are. This is not slick. This is slack. The slickest parts of this film were the Church PR segments, which were way over-used anyway. They were the only things shoring up this otherwise very drab production.
I would not try to promote this film, because I think I would feel used - it's an unworthy project.
Try again. Seriously, make another, better film.
PS. Oh, and I will be curious to see if I get mega-down-modded for being critical. I couldn't disagree with you more, sorry. Making excuses doesn't help. It takes just as much effort to make a good feature as it takes to make a bad feature, so why not make a good one?
This thing is going to die the death because it is a pointless stinker, not because the Church killed it. If the Cult had any brains, they'd ignore it and allow it to sink out of sight. But because they haven't got any brains, they are going to fight it, and the film makers are going to use that "controversy" to give this thing a longer life than it deserves.
Just treat this as a learning experience. You have to say, "OK, it's a bad film. Why?" The answer is; the script is non-existent. There are no production-values. There is no plot. There is no drama! Holy *****, if there is a rule of film making that hasn't been broken by this turkey, I would like to know what it is!
Accept the facts, and try harder next time. Get a real screen writer. Get help from people who know more about film making than they know about Scientology. Is it really true that the relatively few cultists at Scientology can actually prevent something from going on the internet? Do they control the tubes? It seem impossible that would be the case.
