- pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16"Lost in La Mancha" is a good documentary. A must see if you are a fan of Terry Gilliam's work. It tells the story of the unfortunate and unlikely series of events that ultimately killed his project.
- Valnar300, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16"What?NO!Wecan't stop here...this is bat country!"
- yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15You think Depp is good in POTC? Have you seen Depps other 30 movies or so? POTC is him just playing around.
- sudonim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13That movie could have used a lot more gore and a lot less vrbinski.
If you know what I mean - evildeadman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Even moreso, "Lost in La Mancha" draws parallels between Gilliam and Quixote. Both of them dreamed big, and ended up fighting windmills. It really is a shame.
- motbob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9sroberson: it was a joke in the film, he didn't actually die
- evildeadman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10sroberson: "Fatal heart attack?!"
Gilliam: "Well, I got better...." - motbob, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10For those who do not know who Terry Gilliam is, he was the animator who suffered a fatal heart attack in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
He was also the director, but that's not as important ;) - Sukino, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10To infidels: Terry Gilliam is a guy from Monty Python.
I want this finished. - cleggy1969, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That's what is poetic about "Lost in La Mancha", Gilliam is trying to "Live the impossible dream".
- himay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If anyone could do the story right, it would be Terry Gilliam...nice find!
- richard5mith, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Since when did everything on digg have to be recent?
- nato64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5All Don Quixote films are cursed. The documentary, "Last in La Mancha" is amazing because it wachtes the making of this film as it falls apart. I know about this because my Sound Editing Professor did the sound for the film.

Two words, Edward Scissorhands. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5To all who do not know who Terry Gilliam is .... well he's a small fiesty little white rabbit that is sometimes edible in a warm broth.
Thank you. - TheKingInYellow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5depp does not play quixote in gilliam's film. have you seen "lost in la mancha"?
- AboveBeyond, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hhahah, the last scene was hilarious: "You want to F**k with me.....You're a fish, I'm a man!"
Too bad its unfinished, I would go see it. - HallsOfMandos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4more importantly, Gilliam is supposedly working on an adaptation of Practhett and Gaiman's 'Good Omens,' I would rather see that on screen than Don Quixote....
- TheKingInYellow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3why exactly am i going into the negative here? have any of you seen "lost in la mancha"?
"acts of god" are not covered by insurance companies (according to the film...am i thinking of a different movie?). - TheKingInYellow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3gilliam should definitely take on the task of making WATCHMEN which he has stated as being an impossible film to make. he's the only person i can see actually giving a damn and being true to the story.
- kid_dynamite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Grimm got mangled by the Weinsteins. (But it still made money)
I can't think of another director with such a large and outstanding body of work who still has trouble getting people to finance his films. Add 'The Man who Shot Don Quixote' to the long list of unrealized Gilliam projects-- Time Bandits 2, A Tale of Two Cities, and Watchmen (now being made by the guy who made the Dawn of the Dead remake). He was also J.K. Rowling's choice to direct the first Harry Potter film, but was immediately rejected by Warner Brothers. - maklershed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What a tease! I thought this was gonna be about The Rum Diary.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0376136/ - ParadoxControl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Yeah man, Dig as all about last weeks news.
Didn't you get the memo? - bugsy187, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3If there are any wealthy investors reading this, please save this film! This is a work of art waiting to be finished!
- kid_dynamite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If I recall 'Lost in La Mancha' correctly, it was a severe injury to Jean Rochefort (who played Quixote) that killed the production and instigated the insurance claim.
- Cheeseness, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3He was also Patsy if I remember right, which was his first Python screen role.
- Daiken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think I could watch a movie about 9/11 that any profit is being from. It's sickening. America truly worships money.
- xtreme777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here is a non Youtube link:
http://www.nicolapecorini.com/movies/don_q_plus_x_web.mov - z.unit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I watched this documentary back in college for a media class, i too, wish it would get made eventually.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And now, I'd like to introduce you all to the man who will be directing our multi-million dollar blockbuster epic. I present to you, Cardinal Fang. Maestro... (applause)

http://www.montypythonpages.com/pictures/gilliam_redbig_sm.jpg - stubadub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2One movie not up to Gilliam's standards doesn't mean that he's just making crap nowadays. Should his next film be even more lackluster than Brother's Grimm then it'll be official.
- stepnet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Yes, he is damn good in POTC. Even if he is just playing around and having some fun - he's doing an exceptional job.
Depp's "playing around" beats your average actor's best days.
An performance should not be judged independently of the goals of the movie their in - Pirates; a bit of fun, Edward Scissor Hands; a serious look at what is humanity. - mrphilosophizer, on 08/13/2008, -0/+0Too bad it looks like an abomination. Hard to follow up one of the most influential books in the world.... But on second thought i remember watching the documentary which coincidentally tracked the fated movie about don quixote....that was entertaining.
Don Quixote, the book for the win.
-----> www.thephilosophizer.com - lava, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Oh man, if Johnny Depp were in a big budget (finished) movie as Don Quixote, he'd surely win an Oscar.
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4I think Johnny Depp's best work was on 21 Jump Street.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Watch the documentary if you can find it. These few completed scenes show nothing of the fantasy aspects that this movie would have had if it was completed. It was going to be similar to Baron Munchausen.
- Dan™, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That looked entirely boring.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1
Brother's Grimm
I think his main problem today is dialog. If you notice his last batch of movies, they're excellent visually, and the direction is good (or amazing at times), but the character interaction is bland. The dialog is missing punchlines in key places, often the characters are just babbling nearly incoherently to fill time.
So I think what he needs is a good script. - jspring1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Negative. schmichael is correct. This is old news. I saw this years ago after following the La Mancha project and heard that Fulton and Pepe were doing a doc on it. All of you "supposed" TG fans dugg this because of the Depp reference and POTC2 topicality. Snore.
If you liked Lost in La Mancha, check out “The Hamster Factor and Other Tales" on the 12 Monkeys special edition DVD. It’s also done by Fulton and Pepe. - bleutuna, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Lost in La Mancha. Look it up. No digg.
- knightcrawler75, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Can I have your autograph.
- TheKingInYellow, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4acts of god
- loquito, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2There are enough dupe stories on Digg that what was old is new again. lol
- MrJiggs, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1"Yes, but what about the rum?"
- knightcrawler75, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1I vote ego.
- yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4Download it from Mininova. Shame Glilliam never finished the movie - he's making crap nowadays.
- schmichael, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Why is this on digg? Lost in La Mancha came out in 2002.
- himay, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2Sure, if good = silly.
Don Q is a literary classic...Pirates is a ride. It's hard to see how Depp could be "better" in a movie with a source material that includes nothing more than a tiny boat on a predefined path, a reel-to-reel tape of what a voice actor thinks a pirate sounds like, and some circa 1970 special effects. Given that the source of DonQ is a classic, chances are that Depp would have had the opportunity to be a lot more than that...but hey, I'm American, so I suppose I should remember that here, if it's Disney, it's automatically better.
Sigh. - sroberson, on 10/12/2007, -15/+1Fatal? Wow, I wonder what spirit is currently inhabiting his body?
- marscom, on 10/12/2007, -14/+0Quite good, though Depp is better in POTC:2

What is Digg?
