John Connor: We're not gonna make it, are we? People, I mean.
The Terminator: It's in your nature to destroy yourselves. - stuma9000, on 11/11/2007, -27/+222These type of films are a sign of a numb, dehumanised society.
- MetalLizard, on 10/10/2007, -6/+173This guy is right on the money. These newer horror movies are *****. Horror movies used to be about the psychological scare factor, fear of the unknown, etc. Now it's about how many nude chicks can possibly be tortured, beaten, and squished into a fine paste before it draws the line. Kind of sick if you ask me. I thought the target demographic for these movies might have been the maximum security prison population, but I guess I am wrong. There is nothing scary about this movie, or Saw, or any of the other newer "horror" movies released now in days. They are just trash, and anyone who finds them visually appealing is a sick *****.
- FriedTurkey, on 10/10/2007, -5/+137I am glad I am not the only one who thinks older horror movies are better and scarier. Today's "horror movies" are really just gorefests and I think the "torture porn" term is apt.
- AirRaven, on 11/11/2007, -6/+107***** up? Just a tad.
- akf2000, on 10/10/2007, -11/+99Also baffled by the guy highlighting their race but the story is still really ***** up, I'd support the need for parents to have a licence to have kids if it didn't sounds so ... National Socialist.
- danboarder, on 10/10/2007, -4/+69The race and weight reference serve to further common stereotypes of 'white trash' and "what's wrong with America". It's gets people nodding "uh-huh" since they have heard it before. Not that this is a good thing, but I think this is what these references were about. Ironically, an article critiquing the exploitative sensationalism in cinema is rather sensational itself.
- sagien, on 11/11/2007, -8/+68I don't think he was being racist by mentioning the color of their skin. It doesn't matter what their race is. But by pointing out their weight and race, he paints the picture much more effectively: These people are white trash.
- nnnr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+53People, you must read the end of the article to actually get the story....It is not a ***** review of the movie!
- staticblake, on 10/10/2007, -3/+47Your argument is flawed. Violent movies, music and videogames have increased in the last decade but violent crimes in the United States have decreased since 1994 (link for those who don't believe me http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/cvict.htm#ncvs). How do you explain that? Your over-simplification of the human psyche is disconcerting. Viewing violent media does not increase someones propensity to commit crime.
- Torx, on 10/10/2007, -5/+47That picture looks like someone jerking off (taken at an angle).. The brutal rape scene did it for me, i almost just turned it off because i anticipated what the rest was going to be.. crap.
- actorboy, on 10/10/2007, -22/+64An excellent point poorly written.
- jellygraph, on 10/10/2007, -3/+41In America:
violence and murder is ok
nudity and sex is wrong... unless they get violently murdered
heaven forbid those children see a nipple instead of intestines and mutilated bodies
anyways, i've stopped watching horror movies in the last couple of years. there is nothing horrific or stimulating about watching people simply getting brutally murdered... I think his description "torture porn" is pretty bang on. I simply don't get the point. I might as well just sit and browse Rotten.com all day long.
I watched Idiocracy 2 weeks ago, and laughed at what seemed so improbable and unrealistic, but little by little I feel hints of worry that this is indeed what is happening.
Comin' up next on The Violence Channel: An all-new "Ow, My Balls!" - hydroplane, on 10/10/2007, -1/+39If we could only create a cybernetic organism to be sent back in time to destroy those responsible for T3.
- inactive, on 11/11/2007, -3/+38Well, there's plenty of trash in all races...but we get called racist if we use the various "slurs" to identify them. NOTICE that I didn't say that all races other than white were trash...nor did I even imply it.
Like Chris Rock says: even black people hate "*****." - merreborn, on 10/10/2007, -6/+38Have you ever read the original Grimm's fairy tales? They're pretty friggin' gory...
Seriously. We didn't invent violent media. It's hundreds of years old. - bowdie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+31Oh man, I am so glad it wasn't just me that thought that photo looked like someone jerking off.
- Rikm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+30I can't believe the guy risked life, limb and liberty at the hands of the MPAA to pull out an actual recording device inside a theater, and all he gets out of it is that.
Next time use a flash! - umdigger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+29I had a couple kids, couldn't have been more than 8, behind me at Superbad. I wanted to punch their parents in their faces.
- Smokersroom, on 10/10/2007, -2/+30*****. Thats ***** up.
- martyf, on 10/10/2007, -2/+29There's been a few times I've immediately gotten nauseous to the point of almost vomiting just from something I've seen or read.. I'm a fire/rescue guy, I've been in the scene of some horrible car wrecks, and not one of those wrecks made me feel as sick as that article. I mean I literally almost vomited and had to gulp back the bile.
- wbreim, on 10/10/2007, -15/+41actually, there have been psychological studies that concluded that it is in fact healthy to watch movies like that one. It allows a person to test his or his boundaries of disgust and fear and in some vicarious manner helps some people to get to know those feelings better and learning how to control them more effectively. I wish i could cite sources but I was exposed to this in my sophomore year of high school and I can't even begin to imagine where my papers from that year might be in my garage.
- OmniMe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+26http://digg.com/movies/An_Open_Letter_To_Parents_Who_Bring_Their_Children_To_Violent_Horor_Films

Seriously dude, scat porn? - preisler, on 10/10/2007, -1/+27The guy is a psychiatrist and is making an obvious joke :)
- SirDiggalot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+26Uh... the point was that these idiot parents took young children to see this sick movie. The stroller is, you know, a kid-transport device.
- bodycoach2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24The obese part simply shows a lifestyle out of control. The fact that both parents were obese, had these kids out so late, watching a movie the kids probably shouldn't see, the entire scene show two completely self-indulgent people who happen to have also mated. I wouldn't describe them as parents.
I agree that mention the two slobs were white was unnecessary. If they'd been black, Asian, Arab, Native American, Hispanic, or Hindi would the impact of the scene change? I'd say no, so describing them as "white" was unnecessary. - asdfrewq, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24Yes, but the odds are equally high that some other stimulus will set off such a person. Drug taking, parental neglect/abuse, bullying, romantic rejection, hell just everyday life can be pretty tough most of the time.
So what does that mean? Do we censor society to the point that every idiotic, mentally unstable waste of human flesh / potential serial killer is satisfied, sedated or whatever enough to not go on a murderous rampage. Is that even possible? What else? Do we round up all those who show potential warning signs and just lock them up? - alexforcefive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22He was "inventing the most insane justifications", it's not like he was condoning it.
- gossipninja, on 11/11/2007, -1/+23a double stroller, he says so in the article.
- Bossman1086, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21Desensitized != killers.

- bib4tuna, on 11/11/2007, -7/+23imagine if he wrote black instead
- Litespeed, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17It's like how nu-metal has taken over from old-school heavy metal but in the process lost the power that the original had.
- FriedTurkey, on 10/10/2007, -4/+19I don't think anybody said that violent movies make kids violent. If you want to create your straw man don't waste everyone's time by writing a bunch crap everybody already agrees with.
The point is that kids shouldn't watch the torture porn movies because watching stuff like someone being raped on screen is so much more traumatic as a kid. Kids don't know yet that movie studios just throw a bunch of sex and violence on screen because it's hard to write intelligent movies and morons pay for mindless sex and violence. - MindTrigger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16I get more satisfaction out of thrillers such as M Night Shayamalan's Signs or The Village. In his movies, it's more about what you *don't* see that gives you a rush. I just don't bother to see horror movies anymore because they are garbage. Poorly written 'torture porn' for a generation of fast food eaters and people who think magazines are literature.
- Pixelante, on 10/10/2007, -11/+26"I defy anyone to get an erection within a week of this movie."
We're nerds. We are walking erections. Small but almost perfectly formed. - bib4tuna, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17what happens? nothing?
- Niz1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Your lucky you didn't get screwed for snapping a pic they might have though you were trying to bootleg the movie.
- NeMoD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14How do you turn off a movie at the theater?... oh wait
- gossipninja, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Well college maybe, You have to be 21 to buy a handgun and once your 21 you are not allowed to continue highschool in most areas, you have to get a GED.
That being said, Who's to say some teenagers don't go watch "swingers" or even "arthur 2: On the rocks" go down to the corner store buy a 40 oz and then drive over someone. My point is, anyone can be a douchebag, if you are screwed up and impressionable, something will set you off. Maybe violence or sex or drugs or booze or whatever. Serials killers are an easy example of screwed up people, and they use kitchen knifes most of the time. So should we go out against Kitchen knives? Bad parenting is not a reason to say guns are bad. The gun cannot shoot anyone, only the moron holding it. This is an issue of bad parenting. - Auto, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13When I went to see 300, I saw a whole family there with 3 small (under 10) children. 300 was a fun movie but you have to take it all with a grain of salt... Kids don't know how to do that most of the time. The limbs flying around, the gore and impaling, arrows to the head, Leonidas's wife getting banged. Definitely not something kids need to be seeing when they are so impressionable.
- Kronos6948, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15I've been raised on ultraviolent movies. My family took me to see every horror film since the early 80's, and I've seen all the others on VHS. I remember watching I Spit On Your Grave when I was probably around 9.
I still haven't killed, raped, murdered, maimed, beat up, tortured animals, etc.
You know why? Because I was taught at a young age the difference between fiction and reality. - seandaly, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13@Frostman,
I too used to be obese. My mother was morbidly obese (500+ lbs at her death last year), my father always at least 100 lbs overweight. My sisters and brother are also considered obese.
I had tried everything... Atkins, Weight Watchers, Fat Smash, master cleanse, etc...
Would you like to know the diet plan that worked for me?
It was called PUT DOWN THE ***** FORK FATASS!!!
Seriously, it's biologically impossible to gain (or not lose) weight if you are consuming less calories than your body burns. It's chemically impossible. It violates the laws of energy and thermodynics. You can't get something from nothing! If you're eating less calories than your body burns (average is 2500 calories for a 250 lb man doing NOTHING but sitting), you WILL lose weight.
You WILL be hungry... It will hurt in your stomach. You'll be tired until your body learns that it needs to feed off of the fat stores instead of counting on what you stick in your stomach. It's hard, but nothing genetic would prevent you from losing the weight. Only your willpower (or lack thereof).
The only genetic link that has been shown to be true is the gene that presents the feeling of being full. If you learn to eat until you no longer feel your gut wrenching (which, by the way, is real hunger) instead of eating until you are stuffed, it's a lot easier to control.
Many of us eat until we're full, and confuse the feeling of NOT being full with hunger.
Ask a 3rd world child what hunger feels like. I doubt you're going to see too many genetically obese people in Somalia, Ethiopia or the DROC. - OmniMe, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15What are you talking about? Shut up.
The article was about parents bringing their young children to see Rob Zombie's Halloween. He talks about how scared he was when the original came out and how the new one is nothing but a pornographic gore fest. The movie sucked, ok. But the real point of it was that how could parents bring out their young to watch something so horrific. In his mind, Michael Myers really could exist. - buildbyflying, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I can't believe how many posters were more angry about his use of "tortureporn" than the fact that these kids are forced to watch the gleeful ***** of murder and sex... I just made that word up. "*****"
- jstem1994, on 10/10/2007, -5/+15Misleading title.
I've been to a swing club. I win. - ronin691, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12"You'll Never Make a Monkey Out of Me"
Troy: [singing] I hate every ape I see
From chimpan-a to chimpan-zee
No, you'll never make a monkey out of me
Oh my God, I was wrong
It was Earth all along
You've finally made a monkey
Apes: Yes, we've finally made a monkey
Troy: Yes, you've finally made a monkey out of me
Apes: Yes, we've finally made a monkey out of you
Troy: I love you, Dr. Zaius! - perogi21, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10although give this author credit, at least he would spell "horror" correctly
