- BeShirtHappy, on 10/24/2008, -1/+39I loved the first "Saw" movie and liked each subsequent "Saw" less and less. I do however, like the traps/devices that are used in the movies - very creative indeed.
- AmyVernon, on 10/24/2008, -0/+14I thought the original Saw was actually rather clever, if gory. But the sequels have left me utterly uninterested. Can't someone catch this guy already? But, yes, the traps are really well designed...
- basye, on 10/24/2008, -2/+15Scary movies scare me. :(
- chaos7, on 10/26/2008, -0/+11Saw is the new Friday the 13th
- JasonAdams13, on 10/26/2008, -0/+11Of course he's not a nice Canadian. He's from Toronto...
- inactive, on 10/26/2008, -3/+12saw 5? ... when will this "saw" franchise stop?
- teamgwho, on 10/26/2008, -1/+8my non-spoiler take on why Saw V works... and doesn't. The Saw series has been about 4 things: Jigsaw, the victims and their attempt at redemption/decision to live, the quality of the traps, and the twist at the end. The first Saw not only had a really original plot (as horror/gore movies go anyway) , it had a great twist. It set the bar pretty high.
V works on some levels and not on others.
The best victims have always been the ones who've had a connection to jigsaw in some way. Even if the victims are complete jagoffs, they make for compelling story telling when they have some relation to Jigsaw.
The traps have been ridiculously complex since the first one, but that's just something you have to live with. Most of these traps would take forever for one person to build, let alone one dying of cancer, but... you're not supposed to think about that sort of stuff.
Even though Jigsaw is dead, the writers did a good job of crafting a backstory that completely rewrites the old movies and does so in a way that seems credible... for a Saw movie. I mean...come on... you're telling me that no one thought "Hey let's check this cop out... he seems too connected..." Please.
My complaint about this one is that there isn't really any twist in this one. It's pretty clear what the end result will be, except it's just a question of how it will be pulled off... and the final moments it was telegraphed how it would work... I even blurted out the name of the movie on which this scene was based (it's a movie that had two directors). which totally gave it away to my wife sitting next to me. I jsut didn't find the victims compelling. The traps were ok... I give it an 8 for managing to come up with a decent plotline to justify a part V, but a 4 for the writing and a 6 for the traps. Overall I give it a V... err... a 5. - emalen, on 10/26/2008, -0/+4You thought the original was gory? Then you definitely can't handle the sequels.
- robev, on 10/26/2008, -0/+4The first Saw was an originally clever story. The sequels are gorefests with almost no story. I had no interest in Saw 3's "protagonist" who let everyone die so he could live, even though he didn't.
- inactive, on 10/26/2008, -0/+4Crap, the last thing I wanted: to know that there was something good ahead for Saw. Look, the first two were good but the third sucked. Thanks to your comment now I will have to see the 4 to see the five. Thanks for that, I hope that you can sleep at night.
- TheQuarryChild, on 10/26/2008, -0/+4I see a money making opportunity here, all I need to do is register the saw6.com, saw7.com and saw8.com domains.
Darn! Someones beaten me to it, well saw20.com is still available. - krakkinem, on 10/26/2008, -2/+6"The land of polite people"? Whatever. That is one of the biggest frauds ever perpetrated on mankind.
- tikiman453, on 10/26/2008, -0/+3i think they're really good movies. very well thought out and good stories.
- billizm, on 10/26/2008, -0/+3It's just a cover so the rest of us have our guards down for the attack.
- toxicityj, on 10/26/2008, -0/+3because the movie...oh i don't know...ends..
- AndrewMoyer, on 10/26/2008, -1/+4'I'm not your friend, buddy!"
- theOster, on 10/26/2008, -0/+3sequels scare me...
- whatever01, on 10/26/2008, -0/+2When they cut it out.
- yuravian, on 10/26/2008, -0/+2Man, I love scary movies and games. I played the crap out of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and I'm hoping Dead Space is as scary as they say. I think it all goes back to my Doom days... that game was the scariest ever at the time.
- roddack, on 10/26/2008, -0/+2Actually 5 was really rather good compared to the last two. It actually advanced the story and added a ton to the back story which was a nice change of pace. Also the trap felt much more in touch with jigsaws "philosophy" then some of the more recent ones.
- toxicityj, on 10/26/2008, -0/+2when people stop seeing saw. see sawing
- passedoutghost, on 10/27/2008, -0/+2What like Scary Movie 1, 2, 3 & 4?
- divinediva, on 10/25/2008, -2/+4I think it advances the story nicely without being hokey or backtracking too much.
- Sil369, on 10/26/2008, -0/+2I wanna see Saw 6 where the "participants" are non-fans of some of the Saw movies. :)
- philz, on 10/26/2008, -0/+2someone saw it coming...
- craigily, on 10/26/2008, -0/+2im waiting for the prequel where he learns all his tricks from playing "mouse trap"
- andrewlotta, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1Has anyone seen Saw V? It is difficult to put into words how bad it really was. The traps were not creative at all (you should see the final trap...absolutely boring).
About 20 people walked out of the theater I was in. I would have walked out too, but the advertisements on TV said "You won't believe the end."
Trust me, I believed it, and I couldn't give a ***** how it ended.
Worst Saw movie BY FAR.
""It might be a fantastic idea," he says, "but unfortunately they're not Saw traps. We have certain criteria: It has to be something Jigsaw could have made himself, it has to be made of found objects, and has to be something that relates to the story."
If anyone saw the movie, you would know that in the final scene where one of the characters die, there is no way Jigsaw could have created anything like that. - teamgwho, on 10/27/2008, -0/+1** Can't someone catch this guy already?** Spoiler alert: he dies at the end of the 3rd movie.
- lucy22, on 10/25/2008, -1/+2Me too, I need mildly scary, but not too scary.
- teamgwho, on 10/27/2008, -0/+1sadly it wasn't. if they could've filmed it so it came out of nowhere. unfortunately it's fairly obvious what the ending will be, the only question is how do you get there?
- opticwind, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1It wasn't.
- ussilov, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1im not your buddy,pal!
- kyle212, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1The ending better be as good as they're hyping it up to be. Apparently I won't believe it
- LTP1984, on 10/26/2008, -2/+3People from Canada polite? Obviously you A: Don't work in retail B: haven't met a lot of Canadian people C: Haven't met anyone from Quebec.
- passedoutghost, on 10/27/2008, -0/+1they'll beat the dead horse till it's dust.
- opticwind, on 10/27/2008, -0/+1Saying how it "all" ends implies a conclusion to the overall story, which you know has been continuing throughout the films.
- teamgwho, on 10/27/2008, -0/+1I totally disagree on the final trap. I actually like it quite a bit, even though it employs the superman II defense.
although you make a valid point that it's unlikely jigsaw could've designed that trap. then again, who the hell could? other then David Hackl I mean. - BassJunkie, on 10/27/2008, -0/+1Having only got round to watching 4 at the weekend I can say I quite enjoyed it as it provided a lot of the back story to explain how things started go "wrong" for Jigsaw and you could see what the tipping point was.
I think one of the attractions of the Saw series has always been the elaborate traps and the horrendous deaths that it's victims are subjected to. By watching the movie I feel that I am in some way testing my limits. Can I find a scene in the movie that will make me feel really sick? It ends up being like a drug, where you need a bigger hit to reach the same high.
I think ultimately it will never have a huge effect on me as I know deep down that it is all fake, but you can't help but imagine that there could possibly be someone out there who could actually construct such a twisted device. - jave8u, on 10/26/2008, -1/+2Hi. Thanks, I learned absolutely nothing about the traps, just that this guy made catapults as a kid. Did you want to talk about Saw or something?
- bunnyman1, on 10/27/2008, -0/+1not your pal, buddy
- NiyazK, on 02/04/2009, -0/+1well i hate the SAW series .. it blows my mind off.. newayz for ur reference i got this link for u http://techb.net/category/gadgets/
- DigitalBrian, on 10/26/2008, -1/+2Saw 5 was the best in the series so far.
- LilJimmyNordin, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1It's relative. Work in any major US city and see the difference. For a bonus, wear a shirt that says "atheist." THEN you'll learn what rudeness is.
- Thekirby45, on 10/26/2008, -1/+1Vh1 has already made a reality show to see who wants to be in saw 6. Don't expect soon.
- winterorchid, on 10/26/2008, -1/+1I have a friend who has declared that he will watch up to Saw 27 because they'll have run out of ideas. I stopped at 2.
- kyle212, on 10/26/2008, -1/+1I preffered the 2nd Saw, because I felt the acting was a bit weak in the first
- atmead450, on 10/29/2008, -0/+0no pun intended...
- moezes, on 10/26/2008, -1/+0that's right... a person would not want to be caught in East Hastings Vancouver past dark... Canada also has 7million guns in 10million homes!!
- opticwind, on 10/26/2008, -3/+1Why does the fifth movie say "You won't believe how it all ends" on the poster, but there is a Saw 6 planned?
