- tlcstudio, on 02/22/2008, -7/+53i won't act like i understand this, can someone explain again
- blzbulb, on 02/22/2008, -7/+49It's just a movie people! I can think of more important causes to get all worked up over.
- logicalnoise, on 02/22/2008, -3/+44basically a movie about friends helping their dying friend see episode 1 before he dies is being turned into a dumb hit piece of star wars fans.
- mystdragon333, on 02/22/2008, -2/+39The movie company is changing a movie from star wars fans stealing the movie so their friend with cancer can see it before he dies, to star wars fans stole the movie because that is just what geeks do.
- SpectralSounds, on 02/22/2008, -9/+42I'm a huge Star Wars fan (the original trilogy at least) and I couldn't care less about how Star Wars fanboys are portrayed. They could be portrayed as ***** rapists and it wouldn't make it true, nor would it make me like the original trilogy any less.
Do these people really think that Star Wars fans are somehow worshiped by society? Do they believe the cutting of this movie will tarnish our ultra-respectable image? That is pretty laughable.
It's a movie about some guys who like a movie. Its fiction. Its meant for entertainment. It was not made to represent me or any other Star Wars fan. - CTK14A, on 02/22/2008, -0/+30Since I'm being dugg down...
"Apparently the Apatow people have done research which says most people won't laugh for 5 or 10 minutes after cancer is mentioned so they want to do away with the entire cancer subplot"
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/35273 - EatingPie, on 02/22/2008, -4/+32I've heard of this movie over the years. It's gotten rave reviews whenever mentioned in a blog -- even the non-Star Wars ones. Weinstein is pretty savvy about what movie fans like, so this is fairly surprising. Without having seen the film, my guess is that the guy with cancer dies, and Weinstein decided that was too much of a downer.
Happy endings make money after all... That's the logic anyway. Guess he never saw Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.
-Pie - CTK14A, on 02/22/2008, -4/+30Apparently, test audiences stop laughing after the word "cancer" is said in a comedy film; this has resulted in major changes to the movie.
- Devotia, on 02/22/2008, -0/+26That's not true! That's impossible!
- megaton, on 02/22/2008, -3/+25Did you...read the article? Not exactly rocket science...
- bizkit00, on 02/22/2008, -5/+25way to ruin the ending ass
- Blandyman, on 02/22/2008, -0/+18Search your feelings, you know it to be true!
- blackanode, on 02/22/2008, -1/+19As long as it has Kristen Bell in a metal bikini, I am all for it.
- daveFelton, on 02/22/2008, -2/+19This is just a way for Star Wars fanboys to band together and feel like they are part of a real resistance.
- ryuujin, on 02/22/2008, -1/+17the 90's called, they want their website template back =/
- FordeX, on 02/22/2008, -1/+17I have to say you mislead me sir.. That explained nothing.
- sanman, on 02/22/2008, -0/+15Wasn't Darth Weinstein a character from Spaceballs?
- joeyjoejoe99, on 02/22/2008, -2/+16This website looks like it was designed in 2000. Aren't there any "fans" out there with some good web designing skills?
Seriously, it looks like a joke. - mikeyeah, on 02/22/2008, -1/+14Give me a break. What a ***** joke.
- BobbyMC, on 07/21/2008, -3/+15How does this turn into an argument against fanboys? If this were ***** Terry Gilliam's "Brazil" everyone would be talking ***** about how stupid the studios were for ***** with it A name does not a good movie make. At the most basic level it is terrible because it is a movie being ***** with by the man. But apparently because the movie is for fanboys, all respect goes out the window, which is EXACTLY why fanboys would be furious. Harvey Weinstein wants to please the preppy ***** crowd by giving them a way to laugh at fanboys when they do it consistently in their daily lives anyway. Weinstein is trying to steal this movie from the director and use it for his own greedy gain, despite the fact a high number of big names went into the production of this movie with the same goal in mind as the director.
Hopefully, the numbers of Star Wars fan will be enough, but even then I think Kevin Smith can save the day single handedly. Weinstein already made a mistake in not letting Smith make Red State, so ***** with something this personal to Smith that he was involved in getting made to the best possible level could be very bad for Weinstein next time he wants an easy money maker.
But there are no worries regardless because given the length of time this has been in development and the number of hands it has passed through, if Harvey goes for this SOMEONE will leak the REAL movie onto the net, if not the director himself. - atown44, on 02/22/2008, -4/+16Wow.. might as well join the abstinence club and get over it if I care about this THAT much...
- VeganG, on 02/22/2008, -1/+12This sounds like it's for the best. Showing a dying person Episode 1 is cruel and unusual punishment, and could push them over the brink.
- thrallie, on 02/22/2008, -0/+8Stop digging CTK14A down, hes right. Jesus christ, the digg link is all based on his link. He is adding to this story by linking to aintitcool.com
- VeganG, on 02/22/2008, -1/+8I could count the number of movies that were first released in their original, director's cut form on one hand. Festival cuts are never the same as final cuts.
- inactive, on 02/22/2008, -0/+7I love Star Wars and can't wait to see this movie. It looks great!
- Slick50, on 02/22/2008, -1/+8Have you seen the recut version?
- darthbob, on 02/22/2008, -0/+6May the Force Be With You!
Sincerely,
Dack Ralter (Incorrect Spelling of 'Dak')
And you call yourselves Star Wars fans... - punkcat, on 02/22/2008, -1/+7yeah seriously, it took me 5 minutes just to find the web ring so i could join it
- logicalnoise, on 02/22/2008, -0/+5no were talking about a studio turning a movie like 40 year old virgin into "date movie"
- kriminalintent, on 02/22/2008, -1/+6Im happy he did not see 2 and 3.
- mahlerfan999, on 02/22/2008, -1/+6Thanks for the explanation. It sucks when the submitter thinks something is really important and needs to tell everyone about it... but then forgets to explain to us (a) why we should care and (b) what he/she is talking about.
- jdic06, on 02/22/2008, -0/+5GOD STOP THEM
- landosystem, on 02/22/2008, -0/+5"Well guess what, Darth Weinstein? We mind. We're sick of being told what we want to see, by people who have zero respect for their audience. We're sick of moronic movie studios turning smart movies into dumb ones, because you think dumb sells!"
I'm willing to bet that new larry the cable guy movie outsells tickets to either version of this film. - chomp, on 02/22/2008, -3/+8They trash talk it now but when they come out with the sequel, Fanboys 2, all they will say is: "The original was better!"
Oh yeah, I thought nerds knew how to use CSS. - sajnikanth, on 02/22/2008, -2/+7Ruin it, you cannot
- Coven, on 02/22/2008, -7/+12Ending? That's a little more than halfway through the OT, dude.
- oldhick, on 02/22/2008, -0/+5Right, those greedy production companies that fund these movies are awful. Those greedy production companies that find new directors and let them make their movies are evil. Those greedy production companies that ensure a film has distribution channels are complete bastards. Those greedy production companies that keep script writers and production crews working really suck...
There will also be a business aspect to art. Learning how to create and distribute your art within the system is certainly a talent. - alexra, on 02/22/2008, -0/+5ITS JUST A MOVIE!!!
- thelastknowngod, on 02/22/2008, -0/+5i dont know guys i think this will be pretty funny.
and have you not seen kristin bell dressed as leia?
http://snarkerati.com/galleries/index.php/Kristen- ... - kindrobot, on 02/22/2008, -1/+5Someone has to say it...
It's a trap! - Ribbed4U, on 02/22/2008, -2/+6Of all the causes to get worked up for....
- CTK14A, on 02/22/2008, -0/+4Us true geeks keep aintitcool close to their cholesterol-clogged heart.
- octophobic, on 02/22/2008, -1/+5So they changed it from fiction to documentary? I hope they go into depth about torrents.
- VeganG, on 02/22/2008, -0/+4Do you realize how funny you sound? "oooooh they can't make us look like criminals and get away with it!"
- SpicyViper, on 02/22/2008, -0/+4Those rebel scum!
- brollywood, on 02/22/2008, -1/+4no need for such hypersensitivity... I don't think I'd go see a movie called "fanboys" for a good heart warming cry... thats what My Girl is for... ***** bees!
- brozozo, on 02/22/2008, -0/+3How precious...
They think they're important, and they think their opinion matters. - SlipStream89, on 02/22/2008, -2/+5You fanboy's need to move on..... get a life
