- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Silly boy - Firefly was excellent.
- Carbito, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Wow, sounds great, it should be interesting to get some history on the twelve colonies as well as Cylon origins.
I just hope the writing on Battlestar Galactica does not suffer because thier attention is elsewhere. - hawks5999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11This is the direct link to the SciFi press release.
- jcdickerson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Olmos IS coming back - the comment by the produce that he is not returning in the podcast for ep #20 was a JOKE. Check out the Wiki discussion for Olmos to see citations and the refuting evidence.
- zwei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8If it is half as good as BSG I'll be hooked for sure...
- antron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Grandpa Adama was a lawyer not a pilot, from "Hand Of God."
- CaptainFuture, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I just hope Caprica won't turn out to be a replacement for BSG, because there've been rumors NBC Universal Networks wants to move BSG to NBC, because of its critical acclaim. No doubt BSG would immediately hemorrhage to death within the restrictions of network television. BSG is fantastic on Sci-Fi. I just hope they'll leave it there come season 4.
- Omnicrola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Thank god it's not another link to AICN *gag*
I can't wait to see this on TV, if they keep to the same standards as BSG has had so far, it should be great. - section31, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Wasn't bad, are you kidding? It was the best star trek series.
- Dhalgren, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The final season of DS9 was the best ever in Star Trek history IMHO. Serial episodes full of space war, I loved it.
- NickelSax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5manchld,
According to the BSG site on sci-fi:
March 13, 2006:
Returning to its Friday night slot with a complete 20-episode order, season three of Battlestar Galactica promises even more of the drama, intrigue and action that viewers have come to expect from the series. One of television's most critically acclaimed dramas, Battlestar Galactica has captured the minds of a new generation of fans, distinguishing itself with the intensity and present-day relevance of its stories and the riveting performances of its ensemble cast.
The entire Battlestar Galactica ensemble will return, including Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer and Grace Park. As previously announced, Lucy Lawless will also join the cast for a 10-episode arc, reprising her role as D'Anna Biers, a Cylon.
Production on season three begins in Vancouver in April. - d3bruts1d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4But it does have a "end target"... the creation of the Cylons, the revolt of the Cylons, the Cylon Warm, the treaty.... there are a lot of different things they can build the show towards. Just as long as they don't do the whole Star Trek thing, and start mucking with the existing timeline.
- hawks5999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well, it looks like it will have the same writing and running crew, so the real strength of BSG should be there. I hope it runs Friday nights before or after BSG. A third spinoff and we could have BSG Friday on SciFi!
- Matteos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah, I hope they don't jump the shark with this one.
- Korvaras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It sounds sort of neat. Based on the build up of the first Cylon created, and the fallout. I think it sounds like it could be pretty damn good. But I won't pass judgment (unlike some "hardcore" people out there) until I've seen at least half a season of it. Seriously folks.
- manchld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I digg space war. But all of the holodeck episodes rubbed me the wrong way. Who wants to watch the crew play baseball vs. the romulans anyway?
- Rickard, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9You mean the "Enterprise" of BSG right? DS9 wasn't so bad.
- LCISTech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My thoughts exactly... Bring on a spin-off... but don't let the original series suffer.
- Xalorous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That's because they're Colonial Warriors who know how to fly. Not pilots who know how to fight. Also, in the US Army, all soldiers are infantrymen first, then whatever their MOS may be. Seems similar to me. It's also economy of scale...too many characters to keep up with would be more confusing. AND it's just like the original. Besides, most, if not all, of the ground soldiers were, gasp, on the ground when the cylon sneak attack happened. The only surviving infantry soldiers are the few marines posted on Galactica. I.e. not very many.
- Korvaras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I only hope that they END BSG when they find Earth, and resolve the whole Cylon thing. I don't want the series to drag it out too long, because you know what happens when series do that.
- d3bruts1d, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@hawks5999
Yeah... have a 3rd spin-off that which could take place on the Cylon homeworld, just after the end of the first Cylon-war. That'd be cool. - GraceMolloy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4BOTH shows were good. Though none were Next Gen of course, Star Trek is gonna have to be bloody brilliant to recreate the magic of Next Gen. Though I think DS9 got fantastic around its 3rd+ seasons. Enterprise needed a little help but was still worth watching.
Back on topic, I can't wait for this show. The guys at Sci-fi are awesome. Just one more great show to add to the BSG and Stargate(s) empire they already have. - Ensnared, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Considering William Adama is in his 50's during BSG, I doubt he'll have much business being in this spin-off. Maybe his father will though, but he's hardly even mentioned in BSG and as such anything is possible. But considering Adama's alleged statements to his own sons ("A man isn't a man until he wears the wings of a viper-pilot" and such), my guess is Adama senior-senior was also a viper-pilot, or atleast an operative of the colonial fleet in some way.
I think it has the potential of becoming a very good show - I loved the few scenes from Caprica in the pilot episode, and the few flashbacks in the series itself - and not just because of the characters and the events, but also the whole look of it. Add do that the skills of Moore and Eick, and the fact that they're obviously not very hampered by the limitations so obviously present in most American shows (violence vs nudity just to name one - being as it's made in Canada after all), this could turn out to be a very interesting, entertaining, and thought-provoking show. - puneypunk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4no bill is a cylon ;) and this will show he was never even born :P
- achoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Sure they will. Finding earth != victory for humans.
- HRH.King.Lerxst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3But just think of all the Hummers and Citroens that we can see driving around Caprica each week!!
- d3bruts1d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You never know... maybe this time, the Cylons won't revolt. :p
- silenceHR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2sounds interesting, 50 years before events of BSG. i wonder if they plan to end it with first Cylon war.
- repins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it is October for sure :)
http://www.digg.com/search?search=galactica+october - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5They'll never find earth. You should know that by now.
- markkemperman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Great stuff. If it's to the qualifty of BSG, we are in for a treat. Hope this also means BSG has life in the longer term too.
- antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sounds interesting. A flourishing moment in mankind with the sad undertone of us (the viewers) knowing how it's going to end. I'll watch it.
- repins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2October I belive
- d3bruts1d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anyone have any idea as to who the "Graystone" family is?? Perhaps the creators of the first Cylon model?
- Korvaras, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Caprica is the major colony homeworld. It's where the former BSG high government was. Carprica = Capricorn from the Zodiac.
- TyrionEagle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thanks for ruining that for the rest of the World that hasn't seen the end of S2 yet!
- estacado, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm not sure if this a good idea. BSG has a certain goal that they are moving toward to - getting to Earth. There's always continuity to the story. Caprica will be one of those a-new-story-each-week series that has no end target. It'll be like Star Trek without the aliens or like a midday soap opera. I believe that the producers will make it into a West Wing (political drama with religion and moral issues and such), only with robots (Cylons) thrown in the mix, with a tinge of soap opera sex to keep the audience watching. Basically: West Wing plus General Hospital, in space, with robots.
- TheWriteGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What I wonder is if they will use the Cylon Centurian, Raider and Basestar designs from the original ("classic") Galactica series. In the Galactica miniseries, the original Centurian and Basestars made cameo appearances, and it was implied -- within the continuity of the new Galactica series -- that these were older versions of the Cylons.
- Dhalgren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think this should be another mini-series instead of a new show...
"The allure of BSG is its excitement and action and diversity - what could Caprica do to meet those standards?"
They could always take it to the first Cylon wars... - FarcePest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Evolution of Star Trek:
Star Trek: To boldly go where no man has gone before
Star Trek, the Next Generation: To boldly go where no one has gone before
Star Trek Deep Space 9: To boldly stay where no one has stayed before
Star Trek Voyager: To boldly get lost where no woman has ever been lost before
Star Trek Enterprise: To boldly... Never mind, Enterprise was such a perversion of the entire series, I refused to watch it. - Xalorous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Check your facts bub, some of the most popular shows on SCIFI are spinoffs. For that matter, same with network. Especially CBS with CSI:Miamy, CSI:NY, NCIS. NBC has all the law and order spinoffs. Boston Legal is a spinoff.
Spinoffs have a major advantage. They start with a known backstory. They skip the often fumbling stages of establishing backstory and have a head start on character development. Of course, to make it, they have to succeed on their own merits. - 1ivewire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@manchld
It was Vulcans. Romulans are banned from baseball. - samdu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2In the era of TiVo, timeslots don't mean as much as they used to.
- hawks5999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yeah ahhell, Friday at 10 has nearly killed BSG.
/sarcasm off - godmode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Im looking forward to this with cautious optimism. First I want to see what Moore does with Season 3 this October (hopefully not a lot of flashback eps).
For Caprica though, I hope they use the "original" Cylon models they showed in the first episode of the mini-series, and the Vipers from the old show. - masonreloaded, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think he meant more, why are two pilots: Apollo and Starbuck also responsible for : Prisoner interrogation, hostage negotiation, leading boarding/landing parties etc... Whereas in reality, pilots wouldn't also have all those other jobs they do...
- TheCount, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2BSG is a great show, even my girlfriend (who frowns on most anything Sci-Fi) got hooked and watched both seasons on her own. Caprica sounds like a great show.
Now if only they'd bring back Firefly... - Chewie67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, this sounds like a bad idea to me. Let the show run for a few years while it's still hot. If you try spinning off lots of shows it just dilutes the overall experience.
This may be the sign that BSG is ready to jump the shark. - Ponch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2as long as they say frack instead of ***** ill be watching it
- MuffinMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I understand your loss (and all of ours, and I sympathize. However, that's a completely off topic subject.
