Just a few where he doesn't play that character. Sure, he's somewhat one-dimensional but what big Hollywood actors aren't? There are a few, but most play the same general character 90% of the time.- thelastcivilian, on 02/15/2008, -1/+5Sorry, In "Any Given Sunday" he was a down-on-his-luck and angry football coach. Forgot that one.
But seriously... Heat. The Recruit. Insomnia. Donnie Brasco. Carlito's Way. Sea of Love. Serpico.- TomK88, on 02/15/2008, -0/+2So name some A-listers who you can't make a list like that out of?
- CedEx, on 02/15/2008, -0/+0I was thinking Brad Pitt... he's had several roles where his characters were completely different from one another. Fight Club, The Mexican, Meet Joe Black,
- goomba323, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1Maybe like Joaquin Pheonix, Russell Crow, Christian Bale? Just to name a few....Al Pacino does play the same character and I think he is HIGHLY overrated. He made some classic films when he was young, but fell off HARD as he got older.

- xerexes1, on 02/15/2008, -0/+2I don't know if I could take him seriously. I would be thinking of his character from The Fifth Element the whole time.
- BigW, on 02/15/2008, -0/+2Heck THAT character was almost a Bond villain!! Incredible movie.
- MV559er, on 02/15/2008, -0/+2This case is supposed to be full.
- TomK88, on 02/15/2008, -2/+1Gary Oldman also isn't an A-list actor like Al Pacino...
- MRintheKeys, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1***** that, Gary Oldman would be a perfect Bond villian. His character from Leon: The Professional was priceless. Insane, violent, with just enough black humor to make him charming.

and then they kill him off in the first 20 mins- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -1/+2Well now you've ruined it.
Wouldn't work anyway; people would expect him to resurrect in the final scene or something.- Blandyman, on 02/16/2008, -0/+1Emilio Estevez dies super early on in Mission: Impossible. It was done on purpose to make sure the audience knew "we're not gonna pull any punches". Killing of a huge actor as a relatively worthless side character in films is not unheard of, but if it were done more often (such as... cast partial unknowns in main roles, and the best known actors in supporting roles) it would make the movie world less predictable.
Also, stop giving the people with the most screen time or biggest checks top billing. It creates a false perception of who is in the movie and how long they'll be there.
Hard Candy had Ellen Page, Patrick Wilson, and Sandra Oh. Granted, there were only five people in the film, and only those three had speaking parts, but to give Sandra Oh a credit as if she were involved in the main plot the entire time, instead of the 40 seconds she's in the film, was stupid.

- f4nt0m4s, on 02/15/2008, -10/+6The Bond-villain relationship is very important in every Bond film, and I can't see Bond's character having that relationship with Al Pacino.

Really? THATS his defining role? Not Al "Michael Corleone" Pacino or Al "Scarface" Pacino? I must have missed something.- adamh227, on 02/15/2008, -0/+10HOO-AH
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1The US Marines should start saying HOO-AH instead of OORA. Maybe throw in a pelvic thrust or some other taunt to liven it up a bit too.
- diggerphelps, on 02/15/2008, -0/+3I thought the same thing.
Wonder if it's a generational thing.
I haven't even SEEN SoaW, but watch SF and GFI+II all the time.- Shrubber, on 02/16/2008, -0/+2You watch Street Fighter? Dude, that's a terrible movie. ;)
- wild, on 02/15/2008, -0/+9To be fair, this is digg. Most of these guys were probably too young to grow up on Pacino. For me, when I see Pacino, I always think:
"Kiss me."
-what?
"Kiss me. When I'm being *****, I like to get kissed a lot." - sanotaan, on 02/15/2008, -1/+2wow, i didn't even think of godfather or scarface as alternatives when i read the headline.
he'll always be al "ricky roma" pacino to me. - warlokaz2004, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1for me its "Dog Day Afternoon"
- squishee, on 02/15/2008, -1/+1He won his only Oscar for Scent of a Woman, so that could be why they went with that one.
- Xenufield, on 02/16/2008, -0/+3Doesn't matter, Scrent of a Woman is nothing compared to Scarface or the Godfather.
Given that the Godfather Trilogy is legendary and *the* gold standard of mob movies, it is Pacino's defining work.

- Olga1311, on 02/15/2008, -10/+3Sooooo agree with c0ldfusi0n!! Craig as a Bond? Puhlease.... Give me Brosnan who was 100 times bettter. Pacino? Would be great as a villain. Great actor. Oh and the Bond girl? The Russian moel Olga Kurylenko!!!
- sanotaan, on 02/15/2008, -1/+2"Craig as a Bond? Puhlease.... Give me Brosnan who was 100 times bettter."
either you're 10 years old or a definitive rube.- cawpin, on 02/15/2008, -0/+2Exactly. I was worried when I first read of him being the new Bond. I was pleasantly surprised with the job he did. He is actually a very good Bond even if a bit different from any other.
- goomba323, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1I prefer Bronson as a washed up Bond in The Matador. Great movie.
- sanotaan, on 02/15/2008, -1/+2"Craig as a Bond? Puhlease.... Give me Brosnan who was 100 times bettter."
- trc0, on 02/15/2008, -1/+4I thought it was going to be Mathieu Amalric?
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0023832/ - spinaltap87, on 02/15/2008, -0/+6Pacino hasn't been the same since he got all that plastic surgery done to his face
- Olga1311, on 02/15/2008, -3/+0I can't see how plastic surgery would affect one's acting skills......
- codered1322, on 02/15/2008, -1/+1Because you can't move your face the same.
- spinaltap87, on 02/15/2008, -0/+3Because when you act you try to convey emotion and guess what...thats done through the FACE and body language. One thing that I liked about old pacino was how sunken/tired looking his eyes were. Dude looks completely different now. He cant help look anything but like he drunk 5 redbulls now because his face is so stretched to get rid of wrinkles.
- Olga1311, on 02/15/2008, -0/+0I see what you are saying but can't say I agree... At least IMHO he has NOT been acting worth since the surgery. I think a lot of people don't like the new Al just cause they are not used to it. I mean there is no reason he can't move the face and convey emotion .... It's just something people are not used to
- Olga1311, on 02/15/2008, -3/+0I can't see how plastic surgery would affect one's acting skills......
- gutenpress, on 02/15/2008, -2/+3Since Al Pacino's acting method seems to have devolved into barking, I guess I could see how he might make a decent villian.
- Vodka2389, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1I'll have to agree. He just became type casted as a loud hardass these days. More of a big Hollywood name than a particularly good actor.
- spyd3rweb, on 02/15/2008, -1/+6Very good, very good, you know something.... NO SOUP FOR YOU!!
- codered1322, on 02/15/2008, -2/+1Oooooo-Ahhhh!
- frogman54, on 02/15/2008, -0/+15They should give him an eyepatch. It's been a while since they've had a good eye-patched villain. And he needs an animal. Blofeld, Dr. Evil, and Dr. Claw already used a cat...soooo...a platypus? Or maybe a ferret. An evil ferret. Oh...how about if the ferret wears the eyepatch. Genius. And Pacino can be like, "Say hello to my little friend!" and then his evil eye-patched ferret jumps out of nowhere and tries to claw out Bond's eyes. And then Bond's lightning reflexes kick in, he swats the ferret away (a stunt robot ferret so that we don't upset PETA) and then Bond brushes off his tuxedo, straightens his bow tie and with a perfect dry delivery he looks at the now whimpering ferret and says, "Hello."
- Decision, on 02/15/2008, -0/+5Comic genius.
- RealmDown, on 02/15/2008, -0/+5Beautifully done! Except, I say use the real ferret, upset PETA, and call it a win-win.

- nobleexperiment, on 02/15/2008, -0/+3Bond: The name's Bond. James Bond.
Pacino as Bond villain: You ever take a dump, made you feel you'd just slept for twelve hours? - Evolutuon, on 02/15/2008, -3/+2Pacinos a great actor, he can certainly play a sinister role.
- dockb0y, on 02/15/2008, -1/+1And he has, and very well. I think those here, who don't appreciate Pacino are more into the Jessica Simpson and Leonardo Di Carpia crowd.
- mal1964, on 02/15/2008, -3/+1I would rather be the Intercourse Villain
- mal1964, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1The countdown has started , 5, 4
- papastout, on 02/15/2008, -2/+6Christopher Walken (as Max Zorin in A View To A Kill) was the best Bond Villan - IMO ...but Pacino could take that title
- Syric, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1NB: Pacino's up for a cameo as the "head villain", presumably the boss of Matheiu Amalric's character, who at this point looks to be the main villain of Quantum of Solace.
- gnothiseauton, on 02/15/2008, -1/+6Quantum of Solace quotes
Villian: HOOO-YAH, this device is built with quantum f**king mechanics!
Bond: I know a thing or two about the exotic consequences of entanglement. - iucraigmc, on 02/15/2008, -1/+3Isn't Pacino the Devil with an advocate Keanu Reeves? That's quite a jump from a blood crying eye-patched poker player...

- G_money, on 02/15/2008, -0/+5Bond: You know, we are sitting here, you and I, like a couple of regular fellas. You do what you do, and I do what I gotta do. And now that we've been face to face, if I'm there and I gotta put you away, I won't like it. But I tell you, if it's between you and some poor bastard whose wife you're gonna turn into a widow, brother, you are going down.
Villian: There is a flip side to that coin. What if you do got me boxed in and I gotta put you down? Cause no matter what, you will not get in my way. We've been face to face, yeah. But I will not hesitate. Not for a second. - rockinjoe, on 02/15/2008, -0/+5"Bond, you ***** *****-a-roach!"
- Bilabrin, on 02/15/2008, -0/+4If Pacino is the bad guy, Bond has to go down. That's all there is to it.
- ultragush, on 02/15/2008, -0/+0omg that's awesome if anyone read the ian fleming story "Quantum of Solace" which the film of the same name will take its cue from involves Bond getting a mission to cuba and it is set in cuba... so who knows perhaps Tony Montana's cousin on his mother's side probably is master of the universe. Makes perfect sense.
- ChairShot83, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1The villian needs to be named Big Boy Caprice, and acted the same way as in Dick Tracy. Over the top and sinister!
- Decision, on 02/15/2008, -0/+3Pacino should play Hank Scorpio.
