- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -8/+53I love X-Files series
- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -8/+45the chemistry between Duchovny and Anderson is enough to carry a film
- MommaLu, on 07/26/2008, -3/+27I'm super excited to see this. I miss the XFiles.
- momo42, on 07/26/2008, -4/+23I though the movie was amazing and captured the true feeling of the series, it was an amazing tribute to the show, but perhaps you had to be a fan to really understand all the underlying subtleties that made it great.
- btschul, on 07/27/2008, -5/+22You were disappointed with the Dark Knight?
- jonwise80, on 07/25/2008, -23/+33yes! please keep up the anti-hype!
that way i'll go see it with low expectations and won't be disappointed like i was with Dark Knight! - livestradamus, on 07/27/2008, -2/+11the chemistry between Anderson and the camera is enough to carry a film
- gasoline, on 07/27/2008, -1/+9A longer version of episode "The Triangle" (S6E03) would have been a kick-ass movie.

Sounds kinda lame, but you'll forget the lameness once you see how stylishly it's executed. - jonwise80, on 07/27/2008, -2/+9Did anyone else notice that, near the end of the film, when Mulder pulls out his cell phone (presumably to call Scully) the name that he highlights in his address book is actually Gillian?
- Twan2649, on 07/26/2008, -2/+8Didn't see this coming...
- mentalfoto, on 07/27/2008, -1/+6I dunno what show most people were watching over the years when X-Files was on, but this film was exactly like those. Granted this film is way long, but rarely if ever did Mulder ever win or get anyone to believe him, Scully was always the argumentative skeptic and no one in the FBI but Skinner seemed to care if Mulder lived or died. In fact that was the best bit in the whole film when Skinner shows up to essentially save the day.
I enjoyed the relationship parts more than the mystery of who was killing the people. Connelly has a rather thankless job playing the icky defrocked pedophile priest, but he did a great job and made me feel sorry for the sick sonofabitch.
I really liked the bit with Mulder and Scully talking in bed which was more honest than most movies ever deal with men and women on screen. It was very sweet and understated. And I particularly am glad I stayed during the credits where after the montage of flying over snow and water the last thing we see is Mulder rowing Scully in a boat toward a tropical island, and they look up at the helicopter filming them and wave goodbye to the audience.
I can't imagine how it could have been a knockout film because frankly they already did just about every plot and supernatural alien thing they could think of on tv. I'm happy I got to see them one more time and if they could see me I'd have waved back to them in their boat and said thanks for the memories. If your an X-Files fan I think it's at least worth a matinee. - TheMachine1, on 07/26/2008, -5/+10They need to do a second generation X-files TV series. Too bad if this film really is lame it may kill that.
- MasonZombie, on 07/27/2008, -1/+6Season 7 didn't have Robert Patrick. And even season 8 had some of David, but I think it was still good. Scully kinda replaced Mulder as the person who believed in everything.
- davidcarron, on 07/27/2008, -3/+8As an X-files fan...I was horribly disappointed. I almost wish I would have waited to rent this on DVD, because all this seemed like was a 2 hour long episode that could have been shown on tv.
The Dark Knight on the other hand, was incredible. The X-files movie doesn't even match up to the caliber the Dark Knight produced in film making and cinematography, not to mention suberb acting by some of the cast. The X-files cast seemed to delivered a washed up rehash of old screenplay at best. - jonwise80, on 07/27/2008, -3/+8Absolutely.
X-Files on the other hand, was exactly what I expected it to be: a longer episode that succeeded in bring back a little nostalgia. I quite enjoyed it -- simply because it didn't pretend to be the greatest movie ever made! - dottore11, on 07/27/2008, -1/+5Uh, the text "I want to believe" IS part of the actual show, it's the text on the poster in Mulder's office.
- chooter, on 07/27/2008, -0/+4The movie was not your regular average movie. They couldn't just pick up the show in the middle of the second season (for example). The movie made references to how much time has gone by and how things have changed--the George W. Bush photo cameo was hilarious--and it was meant to wrap things up well for everyone's fave TV characters. I gave the movie 50+ extra credit points for bringing in Skinner at the end.
Besides, it was all about the message--"Don't Give Up." Something I think everyone needs to hear in these troubling times. - doctordbx, on 07/27/2008, -2/+6It's called Fringe and kicks off in September IIRC.
- jonwise80, on 07/27/2008, -1/+4Ya, that was a great episode!
- btschul, on 07/27/2008, -2/+5Even seasons 7 - 9 with Something Patrick and that other chick?
- chooter, on 07/27/2008, -0/+3Beautifully stated... exactly my sentiments
- duckyinc, on 07/27/2008, -2/+5This is just a conspiracy to make us not watch this movie in fear of us discovering the truth, but I've got my trusty tin foil on >:D
- Gatesophile, on 07/27/2008, -3/+6I thought it was pretty good. Not the best thing to come out of the X-Files, but still pretty good.
- inactive, on 07/27/2008, -2/+5Was a fridge involved?
- scottja35, on 07/27/2008, -1/+4Family love Michael
- Krystof82, on 07/27/2008, -4/+6I used to watch X-Files since season 1, but I honestly don't care for this film. Only thing that can save it is a complete rewrite.
- rsc0, on 07/27/2008, -2/+4that shape-shifting robot bastard from the future (Patrick) didn't have a patch on Duchovny IMO
- Xlr8ed, on 07/27/2008, -2/+4Actually it said Gilligan
- Totz83, on 07/27/2008, -1/+3No it didn't, the X-Files was awesome, lots of shows today have an X-F feel to them, you make me sad =(
- satori3000, on 07/27/2008, -1/+3Chris Carter has already said he will not let a TV show happen.
- palewook, on 07/27/2008, -4/+6I spend the last 10-20 minutes so entirely bored during X-Files, I considered leaving early to beat the traffic.
- dvdchris, on 07/27/2008, -1/+2I thought that at first but it was Gilligan, a nod to writer Vince Gilligan.
Also, 'Bowman' was a nod to director Rob Bowman. - davidcarron, on 07/28/2008, -1/+2I don't think you could have summed it up much better than that. I knew the movie was going to be disappointing within the first 15 minutes.
- LemonChicken, on 07/27/2008, -2/+3This is shaping up to be one odd summer blockbuster spectacular, where there's no aliens in X-Files, there ARE aliens in Indiana Jones, and Heath Ledger plays the villain.
- Alaerus, on 07/27/2008, -3/+4Went see this movie without watching any trailers or reading any reviews. I used to be a big fan of the series. I must say that this movie really disappointed me. When it ended, I was like "Is this it?"
- SketchaMPM, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1Most fans agree with you, but I'm sorry to say that Carter said he would do it if this film was a success. Seeing how it only made a sad 10 mil. in its opening weekend, I think our best bet is a direct-to-DVD film.
- SketchaMPM, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1Wonderful statement. Thank you.
- jesseroo, on 07/27/2008, -5/+6it all boils down to this...
THERE WERE NO ALIENS!
my biggest disappointment anyway :( - SketchaMPM, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1Exactly. It was like a decent episode.
- MortalynFlux, on 07/27/2008, -1/+2Epilogue is the word I was looking for. Epilogue. If there's one word to describe this film, that's it.
- spook4thecia, on 07/27/2008, -1/+2I do too, man. I think we all do.
- MortalynFlux, on 07/27/2008, -2/+3The film is good and stands on its own. It is well acted and well delivered. However, it is more of a "where are they now, " as in "what would have happened to the Moulders had they stayed together to the present time?" So it is more of a daydream about the relationship between Scully and Moulder. One of those relationship films you catch on DVD that is not particularly high-budget but it is well done nevertheless.
Having said that, I have recently watched Iron-Man and Batman, and I was expecting this movie to further the story in the first X-Files movie and take it to the next level. When I realized this was not going to happen, I just relaxed and tried to enjoy the film. However, I'll have to say that paying nine dollars to watch it did bug me a bit. - Samas11, on 07/27/2008, -1/+2Agree 100%
- VVCephei, on 07/27/2008, -1/+2Season 7 was all david @ scully, best season of all IMO... But season 8-9 was all ***** replacements.
- spook4thecia, on 07/27/2008, -2/+3Nice spoiler alert, jackass.
- SketchaMPM, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1thank you for saying this.
- auranfyrbringer, on 07/27/2008, -1/+2I love the x-files. Love it. Period. However that being said, having seen the latest movie yesterday I do have to agree that there was nothing special about this one. X files has delivered stellar thrillers, dramas even comedies in its long career as a TV show and I have to firmly agree that the movie doesn't hold a candle to the X Files greats. Even if you discount the myth-arc episodes dealing with the alien conspiracy and just compare it to the "monster-of-the-week" episodes (which the movie claims to have more in common with) it isn't on the same level with works like "Clyde Bruckman's final repose", "Post Modern Prometheus", "Our Town", "Chinga". However it's not that bad either considering the fact that most people who went too see it basically wanted to see Mulder and Scully working together again so it delivered on that front even if the story wasn't one of the best.
Also in the next movie I would like to see a cooler name than "I wan't to believe". X files always came up with the coolest episode names...:) - dvdchris, on 07/27/2008, -2/+3Such a disappointing film I don't know where to start. This film is definitely for the 'relationshipper' fans. Some of the elements of the film are decent; themes of faith, doubt, and the extremes we go to as humans to preserve the lives of those we care for. But the execution of the villain plot was terrible and the ending was very weak.
This would have made a passable episode, but made for a hugely disappointing film. There are forums already speculating that the plot was an unproduced idea for Millennium. - rowjimmy, on 07/27/2008, -1/+1damn, i wish i would have never read this review/these comments. i was a huge fan of the x-files for the first maybe 6 seasons (until a little bit before mudler fell off, whenever that was?) and was hoping for a bit of nostalgia if nothing else (and maybe a couple of ingrown siamese twins who escape at night for murder and mayhem?)...
