- Jonmad17, on 03/18/2009, -9/+249My condolences to Liam Neeson and their two sons.
- firewall1, on 03/18/2009, -4/+238CNN is reporting that she was unharmed.
UPI is reporting she is brain dead, then was pulled off of life support and died.
Now UPI is reporting she brain dead, but alive.
Rather disrepectful to do that unless you *know* your story is true.
Hopefully the first story is the correct one...CNN's version. - tyne101101, on 03/18/2009, -15/+103I'm deeply sorry to hear this news. To my condolences to her family.
- wannaBdug, on 03/18/2009, -10/+82Live in the moment. Just tragic
- maximusnt, on 03/18/2009, -1/+68You can go to "brain dead" incredibly quickly. One of the main risk factors of a traumatic brain injury is a sudden aneurysm occurring in the hours after the impact. It's not uncommon for people to claim they feel fine, then develop a headache, develop nausea, and then develop death.
- Sogui, on 03/18/2009, -2/+64Relevance to you:
She is the wife of the guy who did the voice acting for your father in Fallout 3.
I'm still buying CNN's version where she's recovering in a hospital.
She was quoted as "not feeling well" an hour after the accident so I'm not a doctor but I'm not sure how one can go from "not feeling well" to "brain dead". - ophello, on 03/18/2009, -6/+65Liam, I am so sorry, man.
- geekformayor, on 03/18/2009, -4/+47She had what was considered a 'minor fall' and was walking around fine for an hour or so.
And then, all the sudden, she is brain dead?
*****, I'm never going skiing again.
Terrible tragedy, and my heart goes out to the family. - inactive, on 03/18/2009, -12/+52I'm so sorry to hear this.
- Lochie, on 03/18/2009, -3/+36Canadian ones happen in Canada.
- phike, on 03/18/2009, -0/+32CNN is usually late on stories compared to TMZ...........and consequentially more accurate. Hopefully CNN is not late this time, just accurate.
- Harboggles, on 03/18/2009, -12/+39My sympathies to the family.
- decyx, on 03/18/2009, -0/+27I know TMZ isn't as reputable a source as CNN, but they were notified by the hospital where Natasha was staying that she was suffering from brain swelling and was not, in fact, brain dead.
- haentz, on 03/18/2009, -4/+28People, wear HELMETS on the slopes! I couldn't imagine going boarding without a helmet anymore, this would just feel weird and scary.
- kolobcreek, on 03/18/2009, -13/+35As sad as this is helmets save lives. And skiing with out a helmet is stupid. Especially on the blues and greens with all the other morons that can't ski.
- TylerDuhrdan, on 03/18/2009, -4/+26Yeah. it is bad enough that this happened, but as a father, and a husband I feel more for the kids and her husband, tough times, difficult decisions, definitely sucks and a situation I do not want to be in with my wife.
- ColoursInMyHead, on 03/18/2009, -6/+27Make's me think twice about not wearing a helmet.
She just took a normal tumble like we all do and was fine for an hour afterwards... Really makes you think. - welestgw, on 03/18/2009, -1/+21You sure are the life of the party.
- shrewduser, on 03/18/2009, -5/+25I loled at this comment because it caught me off guard, i'm going to have to do the honorable thing here and go down in a flame of bury's with you....
- edcrosay, on 03/18/2009, -8/+28That is really sad to happen to anybody, but who is Natasha Richardson? I have never heard of her.
- Simpwn, on 03/18/2009, -4/+23I buried until I can find this on another credible source.
- bodger, on 03/18/2009, -6/+25No, they took her to the US because there is a lot more experience down there of people with no brain noticeable function.
- manual, on 03/18/2009, -0/+15Just recently, like a few weeks ago, I read an article about how the province of Quebec (where Richardson had her accident) was debating whether the use of helmet's should be mandatory while skiing. Many skiers opposed it.
- blacklilyninja, on 03/18/2009, -0/+16brain injuries are tricky. a slow bleed or concussion can be more traumatic than you might notice at first.
that being said,
i'm very sorry for the family, - dark2025, on 03/18/2009, -0/+16That comment is too early.
- AtomicTheory, on 03/18/2009, -1/+17I'll second that. To your condolences and to her family.
- tavallai, on 03/18/2009, -2/+17Beginner slopes can often be worse than any black-diamond run. They're flat and the snow tends to get hard-packed into ice, and you tend to fall straight down into it, as opposed to tumbling/rolling down. I usually suggest for ski/snowboarding beginners to get on the easier intermediate runs ASAP for that reason.
- inactive, on 03/18/2009, -2/+16Canadian Accidents involve a Moose.
- nonymous666, on 03/18/2009, -0/+14The "initial report" still stands as how it happens.
She fell down. She got back up. She was laughing, etc. She started to get a headache and they took her off the slope. She didn't want or feel the need for medical attention. Her headache got worse and she later agreed to go to the hospital. And here we are. - HTIZ, on 03/18/2009, -0/+14She's the mom in parent trap (the one with lohan)... and she's married to Liam Neeson
- inactive, on 03/18/2009, -4/+17I am truly sorry for your lots.
- Mootabolife, on 03/18/2009, -2/+15How do you develop death?
- AlThor880, on 03/18/2009, -0/+13I have been skiing for about 22 years. I can ski just about anything, although I haven't jumped off of any cliffs (afraid of heights). I very rarely take a tumble, and I have never experienced more than a few bruises and sore muscles. Even considering all of this I still would never go out without my helmet.
One of my biggest reasons for never skiing without a helmet is that while I may be an exceptional skier, I have no control over the person flying down the slope behind me. I can't count the number of times somebody has cut me off, or even ran over the ends of my skis.
Another reason I wear my helmet is that it is the warmest "hat" I've ever skied with. Yes, it does take a small amount of getting used to, but if you get a helmet that is the right size your visibility is not impacted at all. After-all if you're skiing you're wearing goggles, which impact your vision more than a properly-sized helmet ever would. On top of this there are so many different shapes when it comes to helmets just trying on one style in different sizes and not finding one that works for you doesn't discount all helmets entirely.
Take the time, it could save your life, literally. - Goochman, on 03/18/2009, -0/+13Swelling of the brain can also happen at a slow pace and before you know it you are in a very dangerous place.
Very hard to believe how fast something like this can come on. My prayers go out to the family. - OutsideofDreams, on 03/18/2009, -4/+16The remorse for her is relevant because this is a post about her. Post a digg article about the number of homeless that die each day, and I'll post my sympathies there.
- justok, on 03/18/2009, -0/+111 Canadian accident = 0.7897 American accident, at today's exchange rate.
- smoothmann, on 03/18/2009, -0/+11whats the difference between a Canadian skiing accident and a regular skiiing accident? eh?
- ericdano, on 03/18/2009, -1/+12Yes, you can moron.
- cowguin, on 03/18/2009, -8/+18my first time on the bunny hill was no joke either. of course im overweight and heave every 5 feet.
- bodger, on 03/18/2009, -4/+14Oh My! It seems I started the day with a nice hot cup of steaming FAIL!
- inactive, on 03/18/2009, -0/+10I love how people say sorry like her family personally reads every comment on Digg. I will never understand some of the strange habits of civility. Tragic none the less.
- inactive, on 03/18/2009, -5/+15I don't think he reads digg.
- kolobcreek, on 03/18/2009, -3/+13or don't
- inactive, on 03/18/2009, -2/+12Well I agree with you that it is ***** that just because she is a celebrity she gets the "special" OMG treatment, when there are thousands of people dying everyday in much worse circumstances
- mickstephenson, on 03/18/2009, -1/+11More importantly, wear a helmet. By the sounds of it she was initially fine, so she must have had a brain haemorrhage, and eventually succumbed to the internal bleeding.
- DrDigg, on 03/18/2009, -0/+9Given the stories that she was fine immediately afterwards then had a headache a little later, I suspect she had a subdural hematoma, or some other internal brain bleed. You can feel fine immediately afterward, but as the bleeding continues you start to feel symptoms. The bleeding compresses the brain, and if not caught early enough leads to permanent brain damage.
- lepetitmousse, on 03/18/2009, -0/+9you ski without one because it cant save you from everything?
well then i guess i wont use a seatbelt anymore because it wont gaurentee my survival. - Claude1971, on 03/18/2009, -1/+10do you wear yours on the short bus?
- dienaked, on 03/18/2009, -10/+18So are most other actor/actresses.
- borez, on 03/18/2009, -2/+10Seconded.
