- buckhouston, on 11/13/2008, -5/+55Imagine what that sort of money could do for well written, brilliantly acted, independent cinema?!
- ScottMcIntyre, on 11/13/2008, -6/+55So, 007 has left the international box office shaken and stirred! Lots of money-pennies :-)
- iamgreg007, on 11/13/2008, -3/+27Every single time there's a new Bond film, it breaks records. DUH...inflation!
The highest grossing Bond film to date according to adjusted grosses is still 1964's Thunderball. As craiginct said, with higher ticket prices every year, beating the "boxoffice best" of a previous Bond film is no big deal. If it is adjusted for modern times, Thunderball pulled in $953,919,230.77. In contrast, the actual highest grosing 007 film, Casino Royale, pulled in $594 million in 2006, which is now equivelant to roughly $632,494,886.

http://dollartimes.com/calculators/inflation.htm - estacado, on 11/13/2008, -4/+27The poker scene IS the movie. The movie is called Casino Royale. I think the scene is great.
- estacado, on 11/13/2008, -1/+23It's nowhere near as good as Casino Royale. There isn't really a story in this one. All the story was in Casino Royale and Quantum is just an extension of that so that they can include action scenes. The movie goes like this: shooting, explosion, shooting, explosion, shooting explosion, shooting explosion, shooting explosion, shooting explosion, end. It feels like the movie is really a Bourne movie disguised as a Bond movie.
- wowsah156, on 11/13/2008, -1/+20Having seen QoS i can say that in spite of the failings of director Marc Forster who just cant direct action scenes, Craig carries this movie on his performance alone. And he succeeds. But the movie is still a mess and poorly writen. It feels rushed in terms of editing, and poorly structured dialogue and storyline. After QoS, this will embolden Paul Greengrass, and Matt Damon to come out with an even more superior and skilled Jason Bourne movie.
- BioTeq, on 11/13/2008, -0/+16Probably none at all.
Welcome to Hollywood. - inactive, on 11/13/2008, -0/+13Id still like to know why it is surprising when a movie that is made by people who actually give a ***** does really well.
- inactive, on 11/13/2008, -4/+17no DC performance can top Layer Cake
- TxAggie08, on 11/13/2008, -3/+13Yes, but those movies are usually brilliantly boring. And before you start hating, it's not that I don't understand them, I'm just bored by them. If I have to be an Art-Film major to appreciate what kind of camera shot he's using then ***** it, I really don't care.
- DickyT83, on 11/13/2008, -0/+9I still think Sienna Miller in that movie is the hottest thing ever.
- inactive, on 11/13/2008, -1/+9I hate you so much.
- craiginct, on 11/13/2008, -0/+8I wish they would tell us how many tickets were sold. Ticket prices keep going up so are there less tickets sold?
- Naieve, on 11/13/2008, -0/+7I have to agree, i was very disappointed.
- kss42, on 11/13/2008, -0/+7Pierce Brosnan is Irish, and George Lazenby is Australian. Also, the character Bond himself was half-Swiss by heritage, and was born either in Switzerland or in Germany depending who you ask. Bottom line, if Lazenby couldn't ruin the franchise, nothing can.
- abajaj2280, on 11/13/2008, -0/+7keep in mind the fat people who have to buy 2 seats
- magic6435, on 11/13/2008, -0/+6Its not out in the US yet :-p
- estacado, on 11/13/2008, -0/+6If you watch Layer Cake again, the way he holds a gun, you can really see the Bond in him.
- Ruch182, on 11/13/2008, -1/+7Why are you digging him down...it was a rubbish bond movie. All action and nothing else.
- Ruch182, on 11/13/2008, -0/+6QOS needs to be dragged out...it's quite short.
- pleaseremove, on 11/13/2008, -4/+9"studio tentpole can ring up $200 million before its U.S. bow." Since when was the US market the only one that mattered?
- MoeB, on 11/13/2008, -0/+5This doesn't surprise me. Bond flicks have always been more popular outside of NA.
- hfactor, on 11/13/2008, -0/+5No, he doesn't even get laid much any more... it's really not Bond.
- Rivetgeek, on 11/13/2008, -2/+7yah cause watching people fold hands for an hour is riveting.
- yellowsnowcone, on 11/14/2008, -0/+4I agree with you about the action scenes. They were a mess.
But I felt that Craig's talents were wasted in this film. I felt sorry for him that he had to be in this PoS. - slundal, on 11/13/2008, -0/+3good one ;)
- inactive, on 11/14/2008, -0/+3This bond film sucks. The opening credits, use of special effects gadgets like touch screen walls/tables and a hotel that seems to be constructed out of dynamite only make it a bigger disappointment.
- kenhatesemos, on 11/13/2008, -0/+3i wouldn't have minded the long poker scene if the hands that they got were more realistic. they were getting straight flushes left and right.
- inactive, on 11/13/2008, -1/+4Once again, the conservative, sandwich-heavy portfolio pays off for the hungry investor.
- inactive, on 11/13/2008, -0/+3But I thought that piracy wouldn't allow for movies to make any money under any circumstance, oh that's right, if you make a good movie we will spend money to see it.
- viker7, on 03/30/2009, -0/+3you mean shooting, explosion, bond gets laid, shooting, explosion, bond gets laid...or is that what you meant by explosion?
- scubastza, on 11/13/2008, -3/+6It's obvious someone is paying to get all these 007 posts on the front page...
- austang, on 11/13/2008, -0/+2I agree, unless of course you are using sarcasm, in that case I disagree.
- JCEEZ, on 11/13/2008, -0/+2we live in an age where poker tournaments are on like 5 channels non-stop on TV.
- Ruch182, on 11/13/2008, -3/+5still doesn't change the fact that it was one of the ***** bonds in a long time, (if you forgte about the shambles of die another day). It's trying to be like bourne with no real plot and too short. I really didn't enjoy it.
- yellowsnowcone, on 11/14/2008, -0/+2QoS? More like PoS.
- tehknotte, on 11/13/2008, -1/+3this is why the MPAA doesn't make sense.
- DjManner, on 11/14/2008, -0/+2I wonder how much money will be taken in the USA with copies already floating around?
- melak, on 11/14/2008, -0/+2Completely agree. I hate how everything seems to be so US centric these days. The US is not the be all end all of the world, and I'd kill myself if it ever happened.
- estacado, on 11/13/2008, -0/+2Given today's Britain, Bond can even be Indian. Q would be out of the job because bond can do his own programming.
- squarepegs, on 11/13/2008, -1/+3Don't worry--it doesn't. I saw it last weekend and it seemed too short, if anything. Lots of running around and explosions, punctuated by rushed dialog that was trying to tie together the plot as they jump from location to location.
Although certainly of a higher caliber, it reminded me of 30-minute tv shows where someone says, "So how are you feeling after your long night out with Craig where you saw Laura and slapped her for dropping out of school over her father's murder?"
People don't talk like that in real life. - austang, on 11/13/2008, -0/+2...you just did
The correct spelling is "due."
Thank you, have a wonderful day. - lacrimosa2008, on 11/14/2008, -0/+2You mean your mum?
- Ahnteis, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1They're spy-type people. They all cheat. [shifty eyes]
- Jonmad17, on 11/17/2008, -0/+1
- inactive, on 11/13/2008, -1/+2it's good cuz the movie's script revolves around secret society New World Order globalists that rule the world. except in the real world, James Bond British agent is working for the NWO.
- Skibum657, on 11/13/2008, -2/+3I saw it two weeks ago. Owned.
- ryansmith18, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1@Rivetgeek
They didn't have to use extremes (several premiums hands vs folding all the time). They could have shown some standard hands like AK, pocket pairs turning into sets on the flop, 2 pair, and the occasional straight or flush (not straight flushes).
Those hands would be much more realistic, believable, and would have still been entertaining even to somebody who doesn't play the game, but at least understands hand rankings. - BannedEagle, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1great flick
- JCEEZ, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1who spells do wrong HAHAHAHAHAH
