- Slimem88, on 12/04/2008, -8/+47I actually enjoyed the first one with Travolta and Jane.
- Waiting2awake, on 12/04/2008, -0/+25That was the second one. The first one was in the 80's with Dulph Lundgren... Drago from Rocky 4
and yea, it was pretty bad too, but a guilty pleasure of mine... - jmuncy, on 12/03/2008, -2/+24This movie was a bad idea from jumpstreet.
- mdjohnson1, on 12/04/2008, -4/+25The irony is that The Punisher is actually just punishing the people who buy tickets to see the movie.
- DatVillain83, on 12/04/2008, -3/+19The original was awful - Why was 'The Punisher' 90 mins of plotting but only 20 mins of actual punishing?
- Smokeydabear, on 12/04/2008, -2/+16No one will ever top the performance of Dolph.
- bffoley, on 12/04/2008, -1/+14The Punisher is the obligatory Xmas-season action movie that guys will go see while the rest of their family is off watching the obligatory family Christmas movie.
I mean, given the choice would you rather see this or Vince Vaughn and whats-her-face going "LOL XMAS WITH THE FAMILY SUCKS BUT IS ALSO FUNNY"? - Number23, on 12/04/2008, -1/+14Dugg for Titus Pullo!
- TheCooler72, on 12/04/2008, -0/+13I'll buy most of this, but any notion that Dominic West is a poor man's Sean Bean is BS.
McNulty rules! - SolituSneiku, on 12/04/2008, -0/+12my first blu-ray was The Punisher (Tom Jane) actually, still one of my fave marvel comic movies
- Shirobake, on 12/04/2008, -3/+15The Thomas Jane one was the best out of the three. Originally, I heard they were going to have Travolta reprise his role and become Jigsaw (hence why we didn't actually see him die in the last one- just get massively f@cked up). They could have made that work- and Jane very openly on a number of occasions expressed how p!ssed he was that the plans devolved the way they did. He was dedicated to the series. The Punisher is one of my fav characters- and now it looks like something Uwe Boll pooped out. Saddness doesn't begin to describe it.
- krahzee, on 12/04/2008, -0/+12Apparently from what I read, Thomas Jane knew it would be ***** too. Based on the script and much lower budget he bailed.
It's a shame this movie is going to be a dud too, Ray Stevenson was great in Rome (The HBO Series) As Titus Pullo, and probably could have done a lot more with a strong script and decent budget. - shortyjacobs, on 12/04/2008, -6/+16Excellent title. I like the way you incorporated keywords like Batman Forever into
That way, it makes a whole lot more sense than just a - Barackalypse, on 12/04/2008, -0/+9I know its trendy to bash this, but I rather enjoyed the Tom Jayne Punisher from 2004. It had its faults, but it amused me. Granted, I didn't pay to see it in the theater or pay to rent it, so that may color my perception a bit.
- cesig, on 12/04/2008, -0/+9I think you some words from the
- mojoel, on 12/04/2008, -1/+10This is actually the THIRD Punisher. Remember Dolph Lundgren?
- Barackalypse, on 12/04/2008, -5/+14Its about time, you can't do The Punisher as PG-13, he's a brutal uncompromising kind of guy.
- Mattress13, on 12/04/2008, -2/+7what the hell is a cinemablend
- Barackalypse, on 12/04/2008, -0/+5Which original, Tom Jayne in 2004 or Dolph in 1989?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0330793/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098141/ - bigsteve, on 12/04/2008, -0/+5No new original ideas? It's probably because they're BASED OF PREVIOUS WORK ... COMIC BOOKS.
- exscind, on 12/04/2008, -0/+5....all three Punisher movies to date have been R-rated.
- CaptainNoPants, on 12/04/2008, -0/+4@whoizthedriz
Elija Wood =! Tobey Maguire
Spiderman 1 & 2 - I believe they're great movies
Spiderman 3 - meh - vandalin7, on 12/04/2008, -0/+4I hated the last spiderman movie. I know hes a sensitive superhero who likes to cry a lot because of his emo phase, but for the love of god please give me more venom that's what everyone came to see!
- hurrayforschool, on 12/04/2008, -0/+4The movies probably not nearly as bad as the desperate-for-attention reviewer makes it out to be.
Not that I care either way, I won't be reading his articles or seeing the movie any time soon. - evetsleep, on 12/04/2008, -0/+4Reviews are like well..you know...everyone has one.
http://chud.com/articles/articles/17245/1/REVIEW-P ... - cougar3429, on 12/04/2008, -4/+8"I’m sure the comics are fantastic, but the idea of a revenge-driven vigilante has already been done to death in American cinema and it’s been done without the need for silly, skull-head logos and villains with goofy names like Jigsaw."
So by your standards The Dark Knight should not have been made because it uses a silly bat-headed hero and villain with a goofy name like Joker. Reviewer's opinions are like butt-holes...everybody has one and it usually stinks. - krahzee, on 12/04/2008, -1/+4Second movie made, but a remake not a sequel.
- petebot, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3I preferred Tom Jane in Homeless Dad.
- iChopPryde, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3I really liked the version with Travolta not sure why a lot of people hated it I thought the story plotting was really good made for a sweet ending, you just couldn't wait to see him go into that building and take out EVERYONE after his entire family being destroyed. I dunno about this one it seems like a pointless blow em up movie .... not that theirs something wrong with that but I think we all expect more from comic book movies since movies like iron man and batman really step up the game.
- inactive, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3I have high hopes for this movie because Green Street Hooligans was SO good... but maybe I will keep my expectations low if/when I go see it.
- SuperVepr308, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3Man, I am not beating up on you but you must be the first person in the world to actually say that.
- Fleagleman, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3Good review, but I almost didn't read it due to this Digg post. The title and summary read as if it were submitted by someone coming off an all-night coke-binge.
- CaptainNoPants, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3Val Kilmer actually said he would give up his first born child if he could go back in time and stop himself from making ***** forever.
- fasda, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3well in the Punisher comics I've read thats his MO he watches, he carefully plots out an attack, then strikes quickly, then retreats to find the next target.
- Ajajadude, on 12/04/2008, -1/+4...which is probably why people only know that/think of the Travolta/Jane version as the first one.
- johnnysaucepn, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2I don't know exactly what you guys are looking for. Let's be clear: this is THE PUNISHER. Emotional depth and intellectual resolution are not high on his list of priorities.
The only thing to do is say, "to hell with it" and have fun with the silliness of the character. - LemonChicken, on 12/04/2008, -1/+3Was the last sentence really necessary?
- prodigitalson, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2"I think we all expect more from comic book movies since movies like iron man and batman really step up the game."
Just since Batman and Iron Man??? Ive always expected movies of high quality when it came to comic books. Thus Batman, BAtman Returns, Batman Begins, Dark Knight, and Ironman are the only ones i can really stomach. Every other one i can think of has been *****. The Spiderman flicks werent too bad, especially compared against franchises like Xmen and Fantastic 4, but it still wasnt good. - Wittyfish, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2I liked second Hulk.
- mdjohnson1, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Yeah ... doesn't have the same zing written down as it did in my head. Sounds more like a lame comment from a movie reviewer.
- inactive, on 12/04/2008, -1/+3Dugg for sarcasm.
- IceOfDiamonds, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2subpar characters will always be in subpar movies. there i said it.
- TVo14, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Reviewing a Punisher movie is like reviewing porn for the camera angles. You're gonna watch it regardless. Frank Castle is not the deepest charater in Marvel Emotion Pool and thats how we like him. If he thought too much, he wouldn't be a killer hell bent on mindless revenge now, would he? It interesting that is under the Marvel Knights production side of the house, what other movies could they make? Moon Knight would kick ass!
- bubba9999, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2I don't think so. If they had a quality script and decent director, a Punisher movie could easily be a good.
- moothemagiccow, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Dominic West was the hero of the Wire so I don't know what the hell you're on about with "default baddie"
- ansatsu29, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Here is a trailer of the new Punisher movie:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkxLWWiz5O8 - Waiting2awake, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2I think the problem lies with the fact that the Punisher really isn't a "super hero" he is just a really bad ass vigilante, with a bad attitude...Just like; 1000's of films before it.
Tell me how many movies you have ever seen where the synopsis is basically "Good guy, loses everything, goes after the bad guys for revenge".. - spidoman, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2I just want my kids back.
- MRintheKeys, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Rosie O'Donnell is a woman?
