Prequel/Sequel for Movie "300" is Moving Forward
slashfilm.com — Earlier today, we reported on the race to the screen between two new Greek mythology epics inspired by 300. The flip side of this news is that both director Zack Snyder and 300 producers, Mark Canton and Gianni Nunnari confirmed to Collider at the Saturn Awards that a 300 sequel/prequel is finally bubbling.

- RansomHoldiay, on 06/27/2008, -2/+14i hope its a prequel about the life of that wumpy hump back guy.
- Elranzer, on 06/27/2008, -9/+6I don't understand guys who like 300 that much. Just man up and rent a real gay porno already.
- xiojqwnko, on 06/27/2008, -4/+3300 is boring. You guys just love big man boobies
- ninepointfive, on 06/28/2008, -2/+5if you weren't such a ***** yourself, you wouldn't have even noticed the men and just liked the movie for what it is.
- Damien79, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2ninepointfive is one of those guys who likes his gay porn with a storyline
- grantmoore3d, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1I wish they would leave amazing movies alone... just leave it be, let the memory stay pure! NO MORE SEQUELS / PREQUELS!!!

- MondoPest, on 06/27/2008, -8/+48Loved the stylistic combat and filters in 300. If they do a prequel right it could be exceptionally cool.
- Elranzer, on 06/27/2008, -0/+4The CGI abs were especially impressive.

- csiunatc, on 06/27/2008, -13/+7This will be fun to see if it takes off. Loved the first one.
- BennyGreenberg, on 06/27/2008, -20/+4I think that this is a winner. The first one was great - I look forward to this!
- robertstevenson, on 06/27/2008, -18/+3Maybe I'll watch 300 tonight. I'm getting behind. Great post.
- techguru2006, on 06/27/2008, -4/+16By the beard of Zeus... This is a crazy idea. I wonder if it'll be about the Second Messenian War.
- ColonelTribune, on 06/27/2008, -5/+115So it'll either be called 299 or 301?
- mrgodai, on 06/27/2008, -0/+7400 or 3000? 300 is a pretty bad name to have a sequel
- shutaro, on 06/27/2008, -2/+3I don't care what it's called, as long as I get to see Athens burned to the ground....
- fatsobob, on 06/27/2008, -0/+4If it were a sequel it would have to be 1.
- NeoCortex, on 06/27/2008, -1/+11How about "pi"?
You could have an army of Spartans sent to capture Pythagorous or something.- Elranzer, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1There's already a movie called Pi... Joel Schumacher ripped it off into The Number 23.
- Mikhail101, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1sounds like a plot for an educational b-movie
- noots, on 06/27/2008, -4/+2why does everyone assume it will be a number?
"spartans", "sparta" or any number of other titles can be used. Look at the new batman franchise. It's gone from "Batman Begins" to "The Dark Knight". As soon as it's marketed as a follow on people will adopt the name.- RansomHoldiay, on 06/27/2008, -1/+3um... i think it was a joke man.

- BedPost, on 06/27/2008, -0/+2If they made that, I'd go see it.
- frotastic, on 06/27/2008, -5/+14301 the sequel. - that reminds me of the movie "the One" with jet lee, i wish they made a sequel called "the one two"
- zacharytelschow, on 06/27/2008, -15/+4I hated the way 300 was completely over the top until the end, when it was anticlimactic and historically inaccurate (the real 300 died fighting hand to hand for literally hours). I also detested the scenes in Sparta after Leonidus had left, as they added almost nothing to the plot.
- MoralThreat, on 06/27/2008, -2/+5You expected this to be historically accurate?
- Brownds, on 06/27/2008, -1/+3@zacharytelschow
It was made for pure entertainment, not as a documentary. Douchebag.- shutaro, on 06/27/2008, -2/+2It was so a documentary... The events were filmed in real time, as they happened.
- zacharytelschow, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1I liked that the movie was over the top, which is why I was pissed it didn't maintain that bravado all the way to the end (the fact that my desire for the movie to continue its ridiculousness and historical accuracy aligned was mere coincidence). If I wanted a documentary, I would have watched the History Channel's "Rise and Fall of the Spartans," which I would highly recommend, by the way.
- Sasquatchxing, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1I don't understand why people get so worked up over the historical accuracy of this movie. It is based on a comic book, that was based on another movie (the 300 spartans), which in turn was based off the real events. It's 3 times removed from the real thing, yet that's the biggest complaint i hear from people.
- Kajico, on 06/27/2008, -9/+6300 shouldn't have a sequel/prequel it'd take away from the grit the movie had. ***** hollywood, do they really have to make a sequel/prequel of everything?
- warlokaz2004, on 06/27/2008, -11/+10How...How...How...can you do a SEQUEL to a film where (Spoiler alert even tho everyone and their brother has seen this film by now) EVERYONE DIES?!?
Hollywood as usual doesn't 'get it' -- you get a hit like "300" you don't crank out a buncha clones, you get stories similiar, but different enough to be just as exciting.
Were *I* a studio head, I'd get Frank Miller and Zach Snyder to do a film, "300" style, about Agincourt (the big battle from "Henry V" -- you know where a thousand outgunned english Longbowmen totally decimated french crossbowmen and knights. ) But never mind, we'll get another toga and sandalfest.- centran, on 06/27/2008, -0/+6That is why it will be a prequel.
The Battle of Thermopylae was during a changing point in greek history. Greece was a bunch of city-states that would sometimes war with each other.
There are plenty of stories to be told before that event(and also a couple after) if they hire good writers AND good historians. - slifty, on 06/27/2008, -0/+2Despite the fact that warlokaz2004 seemed to have missed the case-based first word of this article's title (i.e. the "/"), I actually agree very much with his last point -- it would be a lot cooler to see them use 300 style filmmaking to create a series of epic movies that capture battles from a wide variety of time periods.
- RoccoMcTaco, on 06/27/2008, -0/+2Yes! I would love for them to do a gruesome (yet keep the slapstick) version of the Mall Scene in Bill & Ted's, especially to see Genghis decapitating children and fat parents! (including slo-mo of course)
- slifty, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1Rocco's comment trumps all comments before it. You win the game.
- CrackyJSquirrel, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1Lear history, this was one battle, focused on, and not accurately depicted. There is a great deal of war surrounding this battle.. Hell, even if you deviated from the made up history, you could make a movie based on what really happened and the naval battle that was happening at the same exact time this "300" battle took place.
- centran, on 06/27/2008, -0/+6That is why it will be a prequel.
- Tyrghast, on 06/27/2008, -12/+7You can hate on 300 all you want, but only too movies I've seen have had a standing ovation, one being LOTR: Return of the King, the other being 300. One of the things that sealed the deal for me as well was when the queen knifed the traitor in the senate, the audience was so caught up in the film by that point that everyone cheered for her.
- whoreable, on 06/27/2008, -4/+4LOTR Return of the King in the theater on mushrooms ..... Unforgettable.
- Mr.Gone, on 06/27/2008, -3/+11Both great movies, but I am always irritated by people that clap at movies. Unless they are at the premiere, who are you applauding? The projectionist?
- SmpleJohn, on 06/27/2008, -4/+2Usually people see TWO movies. Not too.
- oxymoron69, on 06/27/2008, -0/+2I concur, I can also do without the folks who cheer or when there's a lol scene and the ***** won't stop laughing so the next few lines of dialog after a cheesy 1 liner are totally obscured by the cackling fat retard 2 rows behind you.
That's why, I don't go to the movies anymore.
Bittorrent FTW!!
- inajeep, on 06/27/2008, -0/+5Just too?
- bjs3171, on 06/27/2008, -0/+3300 was a solid movie. I guess the sequel would just pick up where it left off? with the Spartan army going back into the battle?
- CrackyJSquirrel, on 06/27/2008, -1/+1*TWO*
(I don't usually do this, but cmon, TOO instead of TWO).. - whahaa, on 06/27/2008, -1/+1don't clap at movies. it's stupid.

- Mr.Gone, on 06/27/2008, -2/+2So would it be about Cleomenes and his war on Athens or just some made up crap I wonder.
- MadOgre, on 06/27/2008, -3/+3http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=rZBA0SKmQy8&feature= ...
I would like to see them include the huge epic navy battle that supported the ground war. - ryrysofly, on 06/27/2008, -2/+5I could see them making a prequel about Spartan society like in the book "Gates of Fire."
The ideals and philosophies that the Spartan society had were truly amazing. - Zandarrr, on 06/27/2008, -3/+2I think a presequel has potential for being an incredible movie. There's much more to story of the spartans, fictional or not. However, they'll have to come up with some new cinematography and editing techniques to keep it fresh. If they reuse the old style it will have the stale "it's been done" feel written all over it.
- glucoseboy, on 06/27/2008, -4/+9OK, let me start by saying I enjoyed "300",
But this prequel/sequel idea is bad. You just can't make sequels/prequels out of some movies. - heavystone, on 06/27/2008, -1/+10So they took a true historic event, make an fantasy over the top movie out of it (300). I accepted it because it was actually very very well done, also had some historic facts in it. And young people watching the movie most likely were curious about the story behind the 300 movie and did some research and learned something!
And now they just take a big ***** on history and suddenly its a "hero" movie with a sequel?....sigh.....the movie business is such crap.- Ageroth, on 06/27/2008, -0/+4actually, they made a movie out of a graphic novel, that was made about true historic events. if you wanna dig through Digg there was a submission from around when the movie came out, that talked about how well the movie stuck to the graphic novel
I believe this is it.
http://digg.com/movies/Spartan_movie_300_compared_ ...- CrackyJSquirrel, on 06/27/2008, -0/+2Correction, it was a graphic novel that created a fantastical fictional story based on true events.
But none the less, a great novel and great adaptation to screen. - heavystone, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1Be that as it may, just the fact that the movie business milks successful movies pisses me off. Why can't they just let big hits remain that good memory?
Schindler's List was a massive success. Can you imagine them coming out with Schindler's List 2?? It's pretty much the same thing here with 300.
- CrackyJSquirrel, on 06/27/2008, -0/+2Correction, it was a graphic novel that created a fantastical fictional story based on true events.

- mchisari, on 06/27/2008, -6/+12You know why I thought 300 was racist? Because they got British guys to play Greeks, and Africans, Brazillians and Egyptians to play Persians. They racialized a conflict that wasn't racial, because most American viewers today couldn't tell the difference between a Greek and a Persian. But instead, they made the Greeks obviously white and the Persians obviously not white, despite them both being different shades of olive.
- CrackyJSquirrel, on 06/27/2008, -3/+9Yeah its all the Americans fault.. Its always our fault.. Don't think for a second the writers, producers and director had anything to do with that. That is was a small subset of people responsible for that casting and such. Its all Americans who are to blame. I swear people will make up the dumbest ***** to try and rag on Americans.
- mchisari, on 06/27/2008, -1/+2"I swear people will make up the dumbest ***** to try and rag on Americans. "
I didn't just rag on Americans. I just ragged on the creators of 300 who decided to racialize the conflict. I don't think not being able to tell the difference between Greeks and Persians to be a particularly detrimental fault. Most of the world couldn't do that, they look very similar, and that was completely not the point of my post.
- mchisari, on 06/27/2008, -1/+2"I swear people will make up the dumbest ***** to try and rag on Americans. "
- hydroplane, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1The movie was made in Canada. Blame Canada.
- zeabu, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1Actually, I didn't notice that. Maybe because for me a black person is a person, and a white person is a person. But now you say that, yes you're right.
- mchisari, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1
What are you, Stephen Colbert? You don't see race? Come on. - zeabu, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1I see it, I never said I don't. But to me it's like blonde hair or brown hair. Or a small man/woman and a large man/woman, ofcourse I see the difference, but I don't think about it.
- mchisari, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1

- peestandingup, on 06/27/2008, -4/+4As far as a story goes, 300 was a turd in that aspect. Really the only redeeming quality was the epic fight scenes & visuals. Then again, who goes to see these types of movies looking for substance.
- Scopitone, on 06/27/2008, -2/+7Too bad Frank Miller has completely lost it.

Can anyone explain this sentence?- sigmaman2, on 06/27/2008, -0/+5Somebody there needs to re-train their Dragon Naturally Speaking profile.
- 4LeggedtriPod, on 06/27/2008, -0/+22Hey Frank Miller, how about making those Sin City sequels that I actually have been waiting on instead of doing a sequel of a movie that was fine without one.
- Soup4Brains, on 06/27/2008, -1/+4300 was amazing and followed Frank Miller's graphic novel almost exactly. This, however, has no source material to follow. Hopefully Miller at least has a lot of input.
- sigmaman2, on 06/27/2008, -2/+3Bad idea.
Instead of making a sequel/prequel, they should just apply the same style and technique to a new idea. The story of Thermopylae (sp?) has been told and re-told since before Jesus was born. The reason I went to see 300 is because it had a similar comic-book style as Sin City. The story didn't make that movie popular. The style did. - rz8472, on 06/27/2008, -2/+10Spoiler Alert: All the bad guys are physically deformed, pseudo-ninjas, homosexual, or a combination of the previous three.

If something’s cool we’ll make a movie out of it,” said Snyder." - TimeSpaceMotion, on 06/27/2008, -4/+1Oh man... I can't wait for those 300 bodies! Hopefully there will be MORE!!!1!!!!!
