- Toon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Some of you sound like Santa Claus shat on your toy train in front of you when you were a child. You're so goddamn bitter.
"Wow. nice. This probably explains why it's been taking a week to get my new movies instead of the usual two days."
Yep, post-it notes sent by a battalion of five post-it note-wielding soldiers has single-handedly taken down a huge corporation. Can't you folks just take it at face value? It's not going to turn the Netflix warehouse near you into the goddamn I Love Lucy assembly line.
Just take a step back from your computer and realize that you're writing a negative comment about a flickr pool dedicated to post-it notes on DVDs sent in the mail. Are you really that much of a dick/***** that you have to even try to find the negative side of something so inconsequential? - judsond, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a bad idea, I would actually assume the envelopes are opened and scanned robotically, probably this makes that system screw up and go to a human. Why would people think sticky notes on a barcode surface is a good idea? Do you imagine lonely people sitting around a campfire opening these envelopes and putting them in a box? I can assure you it's a fast production environment, and these stickies are almost certainly a pain for some one.
- Matt2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Netflix is the greatest thing since the invention of the Internet. I like slipping a fiver in my return envelopes just to show my thanks. I sent them a christmas ham back with my last movie return.
- electricalen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This looks like something a teenager would do just to be an ass. All it does is annoy the people processing the DVD's and adds to the time it takes them to send me my next set. How do these stories make it to the homepage.
- Mantus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0fake, as in it's the same person writing all the notes, taking a picture of them and posting them on flickr.
- itsmikey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Haha, the Arrested Development one is great.
dugg - WarPirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0One of the notes said "Is this still funny ..." Its gotta be the same person. Maybe not fake but definitely getting old.
- grayBot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0agreed ...whats with all the angry comments
these notes mostly made me smile.....
also made me think netflix is missing out on alot of advertising $$$ - Phazed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0haha thats awesome
i'm so doing this now - mdwstfshrmn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I got a chuckle out of it.
Some of you are way too uptight about this.....lighten up! :-) - vpcwiu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dang, I wish I thought of this before. Thanks!
- bastardsoul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the Post-It note is correct, as nothing is better than watching Law and Order reruns.
- diecastbeatdown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0they do it. one of the sites i frequently visit - http://hackingnetflix.com has a lot of users talking about the stuff they do there. mostly the site deals with news about netflix and online movie rental stores. they discussed this topic some months ago and my personal take on it is:
DON'T DO IT!!!
why? well, it's one of those things that corporations simply don't like. it causes overhead, people stop doing their jobs when they take a moment to read some sticky note, it may damage a dvd or cover the barcode which makes for easy processing. you never know, they might change the envelope or create a policy against it, or who knows what. i'm not in favor of rocking the boat twhen things are smooth sailing and right now netflix is one of the greatest things out there - aside from their whole rental rate limiting thing, that really sucks ass. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ummm... these are not being posted by Netflix but by the people who are actually writing the notes and then sending them back in. So stop freaking out about it being "fake" beause "a bunch have the same handwriting." Duh.
- KONTROL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Them ***** still come scratched. Especially on the more popular ones of course.
- Mantus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i get scratched ones only once in awhile
- deckardrun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hurray! Arrested Development!!
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0did they ever get a reply?
- firebird2110, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks like 7 different people. No digg. Cute idea as a way to review movies on Flickr but pointless to bother Netflix with them.
- xelloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They send the post it notes to Netflix, not netflix to them.
- djhifisi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's funny, leave it alone.
- absmith1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lighten up, folks! Why is it that these comments on Digg are almost always critiques? The validity of something like this isn't quite a matter of national security. Seems a petty, joyless way to approach something unexpected and mildly entertaining.
- altcountryman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0addisonj - I'm a subscriber and I've only had one DVD that was truly unplayable. I have had a few that needed a cleaning. I told myself I'd just clean each one when I get it, but, alas, I'm too lazy, so I still get up in the middle of the movie occasionally.
Overall, I'm 100% pleased with Netflix. Maybe I'll send them a Post-it with my next return... - Mantus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i dugg this... but i'm thinking it's fake. the handwriting looks the same on the notes
- TheRealStyro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Only time I've ever written on a post-it stuck to a NetFlix return is to inform whomever that the disc is bad (scratched/unplayable), where and why.
I got tired of printing the note in English, Spanish and Creole (the return facility is in Ft Lauderdale, FL). - DrDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thought the green screen one for star wars was hysterical.
- super_structure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"also made me think netflix is missing out on alot of advertising $$$"
I have ads on the inside of my tear-off front sheet (the portion with my address on it) for the new Jim Carey movie. I think Netflix has figured this one out. - daurkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, Netflix is pretty good. Very convient for me because I don't always watch movies when they first come out so I don't have a wait line in my queue.
Secondly I do think this is a fake but a good idea. If you stick post-it notes on the DVD sleeve then Netflix would most likely remove them when they put it back in rotation. If someone stuck post it notes on the DVD face inside the sleeve maybe it would get through the system. - pberry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To everyone worried about us mucking up the widget works at Netflix, chill. The bar codes aren't covered up (at least on mine). The idea that Netflix will re-engineer their entire receiving setup because of this is just silly. Why do I say this? Because being a Netflix customer I've actually read the shipping FAQ. They even tell you to put two DVDs in one sleeve if you lose one. I can imagine there is a lot more of that going on than 5 or 6 people putting harmless sticky notes on the DVD sleeve.
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"...Lighten up, folks! Why is it that these comments on Digg are almost always critiques? The validity of something like this isn't quite a matter of national security. Seems a petty, joyless way to approach something unexpected and mildly entertaining.

Tell scottthopmse that, he really needs to hear that! TAlk about a humorless *****! - jwalk81980, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow. nice. This probably explains why it's been taking a week to get my new movies instead of the usual two days.
- super_structure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Do you imagine lonely people sitting around a campfire opening these envelopes and putting them in a box?"
Yes, as a matter of fact, I can picture it in my mind right now...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rosiecotton/52417767/in/photostream/ - thotpoizn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 Perhaps a couple of people sending in a note with "That was a great movie, thanks!" - and a $1 bill inside the sleeve - would shoot this little idea right into orbit with the Netflix worker bees loving the hell out of it... *grin*
Personally I love Netflix, and it seems like a fun idea to get a note through to some nameless, faceless cog in the machine - or better yet, the next customer! But I probably won't for fear of screwing up the service for everyone (corporations do tend to get touchy about the most trivial and harmless things...) - super_structure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm sorry, but what is so "fake" about any of this? That some people posted more than one photo to the group? Do you understand how Flickr groups work? Isn't it possible that the individuals who do this (and post photos of it) do it more than once? Are you saying that the person has multiple accounts?
Did you even bother to look into this at all? Each of these four people has at least 100 photos on their Flickr account. That's a hell of a lot of effort to "fake" something like this, whatever you even think that means. - vpcwiu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0btw... In response to this..
"i dugg this... but i'm thinking it's fake. the handwriting looks the same on the notes"
Some of the post-it's are the same because.....
"we thought it would be a funny idea to include nonsense notes on netflix we returned. then, we thought it would be funny to make a whole group out of it. so if you get dvd's of any sort, from any service (it can be blockbuster, even) please join" - super_structure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Hmm... i have a question, had netflix way back when it first came out and had the problem with TONS of scratched DVD's... anyone now if that is better nowadays? sure is a pain and i might subscribe again if it were fixed"
I've had one disc that was really scratched (Arrested Development, interestingly enough). It wasn't badly damaged and I could watch it almost all (two hung-up spots). Anyway, Netflix has a system for reporting scratched or broken discs, which users should absolutely make use of. They even have a little check button for resending you another disc of the same film. I'm sure some people thinking that's not enough on their part and that Netflix should compensate them somehow, but I'm cool with it. DVD's scratch and break. Netflix is still a great program.
Oh, and what's up with all you humorless wonders? So what if a few folks thought they'd amuse some Netflix workers (if people actually even look at these discs, they may all be machine read...)? You have the time to leave a harsh comment here but Heaven-forbid someone take 30 seconds to write a funny post-it note on a netflix sleeve.
And as for adding to the cost of subscriptions by taking up worker time, we're not all ruthless money-making robots like you. Some of us enjoy human interaction and appreciate a small bright spot in our day, even if it comes in the form of a yellow post-it note. So what if it adds $0.01 to the monthly fee? - tomnat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree. I think it's totally fake. PR stunt by Netflix. And look, it worked!
- MissPlum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i think it's hilarious that people think this is fake! my boyfriend and i started the group on flickr because we thought it was amusing. we are real people who really use netflix and really like to play silly pranks. we have more than one note with the same handwriting BECAUSE WE RENT MORE THAN ONE MOVIE! there aren't really that many people in the group anyway, so there are bound to be repeats from some people!
i can't believe that everyone is so negative! thank you Toon, for summing it all up so well. i really love your comment! more joy, more silliness, and more fun are our goals with this little "project." lighten up, everyone.

http://flickr.com/photos/addieplum - Matt2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0THE ANSWER TO TOON'S QUESTION MIGHT JUST LITERALLY BLOW YOUR MIND!!!!
- aeoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lame flickr promotion. Feh. There is no way a note can stay stuck through the mailing process and it's just 1-2 folks "doing" it. They're not really doing it, mind you. They just stick em for a picture and that's that.
- MissPlum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ps to aeoo--we are really "doing it." we stick the note on the sleeve, put the sleeve in the mailer, and put it in the post box. why is this so incredibly hard for anyone to believe?
- TheSeuss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I do not exist. I am a corporate advertising campaign. Succumb. Resistance is yadda yadda.
Either that or we and the others involved in the group actually exist and are just having fun with a silly idea.
hmmm could be.

http://flickr.com/photos/addieplum - Mantus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh, i see. i had a totally wrong impression of what the premise was... reading the description, i thought it was suppose to be pics posted by a netflix employee of notes they've received. my bad.
- Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"One of the notes said "Is this still funny ..." Its gotta be the same person. Maybe not fake but definitely getting old." I think he was talking about the movie...Ghostbusters, as in is the movie still funny? or is he just getting too old.
- japanlover, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0haha this is pretty funny...
dugg dugg dugg - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These are all different (unless they are submitted buy the same person which is indicated) post-its with obviously all different handwriting, what the ***** are u wasting time commenting on that?
- etx313, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yeah, all those pics were taken by the same guy. And all the handwriting looks the same.
- TheSeuss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I pasted her link then posted without editing it and digg wont let me edit that comment so...
http://flickr.com/photos/seuss - jaytee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0fake?! it's a post-it note with some writing on it.
- notkevin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1At least it is more interesting then another Apple/Vista/Google/Firefox story.
