- eyepennies, on 10/07/2008, -0/+10We all live in a fantasy world. Actors have just as much of a right to voice their opinions as any other profession. They just get a lot more attention for it since they are famous. Judge their opinions based on how thoughtful they are about them, whether they actually make sense, not based on what they do for a living.
As a funny example of this ridiculous anti-Hollywood stance (it's really an anti-Liberal stance anyway, since the same people who cry foul have no problem with Charleton Heston or John Voight speaking up...) is when Ken Burns voiced his opinion and someone posted, "Who gives a ***** what he thinks; he's just some famous guy!" Yeah, Ken Burns.
Stop the ad-hominem and start thinking . - slothlovechunk, on 10/07/2008, -2/+11I don't know. Actors do have a lot of time to sit around and think about stuff. Also, they travel more than most people and see the world quite a bit more.
What is strange is that most popular actors are quite rich, and yet they support policies that do not personally benefit them. Still, you don't need an actor to tell you the Iraq war is dumb. - inactive, on 10/07/2008, -1/+9I wouldn't exactly say he's "going" political. The guy has been actively involved in politics for over 8 years. See the past 2 election and basically every documentary he's put his name on.
It's still always a tad annoying when actors do this sort of thing, but Leo has at least been consistent in his involvement. - inactive, on 10/07/2008, -4/+11DiCaprio on polar bears....thrilling read.
- Shaggy3, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6You obviously didn't read the interview.
He stayed away from taking sides, criticizing anybody, or overstating his beliefs. - aaronirwin31, on 10/07/2008, -1/+7What I've always found funny is the number of average, everyday people who claim that "dumb" Hollywood-types have no business voicing their two-cents on elections. They are sure the Hollywood-types have no business talking about things that are "obviously" above their pay grade, but at the same time they think "their" common opinions are somehow more valid and worthy of being plastered all over the internet.
- offrdbandit, on 10/07/2008, -1/+7He knows his icebergs, my friend...
- godofallcows, on 10/07/2008, -1/+6lmfao
- aquafire, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4It's called context-sensitive advertising. If Body of Lies is in the subject, you can be sure it'll be in the ads.
- eyepennies, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4I'm not denying that they have a distorted perception of reality. I'm just saying that you do too (and I don't even need the clear evidence of your comments to know that).
- Buelldozer, on 10/08/2008, -0/+3I have politics turned off for a reason. BURIED.
- godofallcows, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3That's called government, but its very similar lol
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3Buddy, in reference to your last comment, saying the last 8 years is a failure DOESN'T take sides. Last time I checked we have a republican president and a democratic led congress. They are equally to blame. Leo makes no distinction between who did what and who is responsible.
- IHaveCrayons, on 10/08/2008, -1/+4Why is this in section movies? It should be in the section Election 2008 which I have filtered out.
- EnjoyTheFact, on 10/07/2008, -3/+6Gee, this site has ads all over for this movie and it just so happens to make the front page with minimal diggs and even less comments. Hell of an algorithm...
- odigity, on 10/08/2008, -0/+3Why would a movie affect the election? People who support or oppose the war aren't going to change their minds with any new information, they'd have had plenty of time to make up their minds. And regardless of their views on the war, it has nothing to do with the election, as both major candidates are pro-war.
So how could it affect the election? The only thing that can affect the election is waking people up to the fact that both parties are corrupt, serve the same special interests, and differ mainly in their marketing. - NonLeftistDiggr, on 10/08/2008, -2/+4This is one of the few hollywood actors I can still appreciate regardless of the political crap they spew. This guy has ruled the screen for many years. Kind of suprised he was willing to play an anti-tax, anti-government, non-pc character (aviator).
- buddypriefert, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2Actually, while you were reading all of my posts, I was having a quickie with my wife (swear to it).
I'm back from my break however.... - jakdracula, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usvG-s_Ssb0
- bluesman3535, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2THE ALTERNATE INTERVIEW : LD "The CIA has it so difficult. I mean the WMD's and stuff, who knew? So they lied and started a war, who cares? We bit off more than we can chew but like Jaws, this war is a classic ***** up just like Vietnam. Hollywood profits from epic real-life ***** ups so the worse the wars, the better for us!. Now I can appreciate why they lie for people like Cheney and W. .....it makes you appreciate what they do to exhaust everyday Americans and the value of Chinese and Russian domination these days. Russel Crowe? Oh yeah the hotel telephone throwing dude who should have done jail time--good actor, not as good as me but....
- frankb00th, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2Did Di Caprio ***** your wife or something ?
We get it. Hollywood stars should stick to acting .
Posting once about your generalist views should pretty much be then length of rope you allow yourself.
How's that ? - arapro, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2I liked the movie, a bit long but ok, I prefer the departed !
regarding story and the lies, its ok ! shows how desperate the USA are to get this people, and fail because they do not understand them ! - deweyhewson, on 10/07/2008, -2/+4*sigh* You know, it's a shame this has to be said, but just for you:
Criticism of America != Anti-American - montanask8, on 10/07/2008, -1/+3Jeez - Right on the money!
- stone2020, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2Dang...three ads and they are all for the movie.
- Billions, on 10/08/2008, -1/+2You gonna just keep commenting on this topic? Go get a soda or something, little guy. Take a break.
- Spuy767, on 10/07/2008, -6/+7Hollywood hasn't /gone/ liberal, it's always been liberal. Actors can afford to be idealistic as ***** and be activists. As for Polar bears being take off the endangered species list, this was because innuit were being prosecuted for doing what they've done for 10000 years and hunting polar bears.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -2/+3I can’t afford to be a republican right now. If I make over $250.000 someday I will then vote for republicans.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -3/+4Say it ain’t so Luke. So are you one of those Republicans who masturbates to Sarah Palin videos?
- smacksaw, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1So go watch it and enjoy. Who knows? You might learn something.
- surf1punk, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1Lol... Coincidence that the advertisement banners right now are for the movie "Body of Lies" on an articles about Body of Lies... :) Good placement Digg.... :)
- montanask8, on 10/07/2008, -5/+5Hmmm... I think its all very interesting. Though I dont know who I like as one is a war mongerer and the other in all honesty a socialist...
- Labyrinth336, on 10/08/2008, -2/+2I believe what you were trying to say is, " So are you one of those Democrats who has Obama's penis in his mouth... with the balls cupped?" The answer is... yes SaperKain.. yes you are..
- algaeturd, on 10/07/2008, -10/+10Only a few comments on this as a front page story? With a 'Body of Lies' ad to my right as I type this? Say it ain't so, Digg. Say it ain't so. Viral marketing in combination with traditional marketing at the same time? Wow.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -5/+5Republicans need to stop bitching about how Hollywood gone liberal. Put your money where your mouth is and never ever watch any movies ever again. There you clowns.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -8/+8Yeah that's where I get all my beliefs, Hollywood.
- godofallcows, on 10/07/2008, -3/+2The movie didn't look that appealing though...
- buddypriefert, on 10/07/2008, -3/+2Sure - actors *do* have a distorted concept of reality. Hollywood divorce rate anyone? For every Charleton Heston who spoke up, I could name you 500 DiCaprios.
Still not convinced? Take a look at a political map of counties across the USA. - buddypriefert, on 10/07/2008, -3/+1Taking sides? Criticizing anyone? No, of course not..."these last eight years we've failed miserably" means somehow 8 came into play um..not politically huh?
- solid12345, on 10/08/2008, -5/+3http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moustapha_Akkad
Moustapha Akkad, the acclaimed producer of Halloween and director of Mohammed, the Messenger of God, blown up by radical Jihadist terrorists, But it's okay, radical Islam doesn't exist, it's all Bush-*****, right? *Puts head in the sand* - buddypriefert, on 10/07/2008, -7/+4It's a good thing this movie is supported mostly by Diggers. That will be about the only income it gets, just like all other anti-American movies in the past 3 years have failed misserably. More proof that America is fed up with the anti-American garbage that Hollywood thinks we like.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -10/+6Im so glad that this country is led by "movie" stars. After all they know so much about politics
- peterclarke, on 10/07/2008, -6/+2This guy is the real village idiot along with the ones that fianced the movie.
- spacebuddy, on 10/07/2008, -8/+3This is cool.
- buddypriefert, on 10/07/2008, -6/+1DiCaprio quote:
"We're the biggest polluters; the biggest contributors to waste, and it’s time we do that."
See - it's crap like this which totally deflate this idiot. I suppose China and India are his idea of role model countries that we need to practice. Maybe take a few fishing lessons from Japan? - cle2105, on 10/07/2008, -12/+6Leonardo DiCaprio? I thought Bush, McCain, Obama, and the Congress were the stars of "Body of Lies"...
- buddypriefert, on 10/07/2008, -10/+1How it (the movie) "changed" his view of the Iraq War?
What? You mean he supported the Iraq War *before* the movie? Just another Hollywood idiot mixing politics who, like most other entertainment zealots who know nothing about polar bears or any political issues for that matter. - FullClip, on 10/07/2008, -19/+6IT'S A ***** MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!
- buddypriefert, on 10/07/2008, -20/+4Oh great. Another hollywood idiot going political who lives in a fantasyworld, here to preach to us how screwed up anyone who disagrees with him is.
