- AmyVernon, on 12/01/2008, -0/+75But there was a prequel of sorts - the very last old-school Planet movie (I think it was the last of them), which showed apes as servants to the humans, and finally rebelling. Am I the only one who's watched every single one of those crap-fests?
- funkymonkey01, on 12/01/2008, -0/+37I suppose it could work. Actually, forget it. It's a dumb idea. I think they have flogged this monkey to death.

Dr. Zaius, Dr. Zaius!
Dr. Zaius, Dr. Zaius!
Oh, Dr. Zaius - antistupid, on 12/01/2008, -0/+30Actually there was a sprequel (sequel+prequel..time travel tends to blur things) in which 2 apes (Cornellius and Zira) went back in time, became celebrities for being talking intelligent apes from the future, then had an Ape baby that later came to be known as Caesar. Some right wing nutjob had a problem with this and killed the 2 parents on top of some shoreline construction. They tossed the baby overboard during their death throes. It was not certain that the baby lived, but that didn't matter as that was not baby Caesar/Milo but a decoy ape baby that had been switched with one of the unintelligent apes at the Zoo in which Cornellius and Zira were being held! In the following prequel, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, Caesar (Hail Caesar) and other intelligent apes currently living out their lives in servitute rose up and led the apes to victory against their human oppressors. This turns into a full fledged world war which has ended with humans all but wiped out. The few that are left have been forced to live in radiation soaked cities but make one last attempt at reclaiming their top spot on the food chain in Battle for the Planet of the Apes.
In order of their theatrical release:
Planet of the Apes
Beneath the Planet of the Apes
Escape from the Planet of the Apes
Conquest of the Planet of the Apes
Battle for the Planet of the Apes
Planet of the Apes (the ***** one that Mark Wahlberg was in)
In chronilogical order based on story
Escape from the Planet of the Apes
Conquest of the Planet of the Apes
Battle for the Planet of the Apes
Planet of the Apes
Beneath the Planet of the Apes
..I probably shouldn't know this much about these movies. - AncientWeird, on 12/01/2008, -0/+25He can talk! He can talk! He can talk! He can talk!
I can siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing! - Cancerkitty, on 12/01/2008, -0/+21Fox Movie Channel ran a Planet of the Apes marathon over Thanksgiving weekend. You're correct, the third and forth movies acted as prequels, of sorts.
- ohnoerino, on 12/01/2008, -1/+21As long as Tim Burton isn't involved. Apes are not his cup of tea.
- angusm, on 12/01/2008, -1/+20They should give it the J.J. Abrams treatment, and have all these hot, angsty young teen apes meeting for the first time and preparing to face their ape destiny together.
- Diggopolis, on 12/01/2008, -0/+19I remember my sister and brother-in-law taking me to the drive-in to see "Beyond the Planet of the Apes", when I was young and I liked it so much that I made it a point to see all of the original movies. The movies were on the cheesy side, and kind of dumb, but I liked them.
I refused to see any cartoons, tv series or remakes of the movies since... but enough time now had passed and the technology in movie making grew so much that it might be a good time to remake that series. Who knows, they might even pull it off. - rsimms, on 12/01/2008, -0/+19The last three movies, "Escape from ..." , "Conquest of ..." and "Battle for ..." were the prequels. They explained everything from the disease that killed all dogs and cats so monkeys were used as pets, to the rebellion of the apes being used as slaves. Nothing left to do.
- gauloises1, on 12/01/2008, -0/+16Genesis: Apes?
Thought people weren't too keen on apes in Genesis. - AmyVernon, on 12/01/2008, -0/+14Thank you! I couldn't remember if it was just one movie or two of them. I mean, there's only so many times you can watch any of the sequel/prequels...
- Lucas123, on 12/01/2008, -0/+13As if only five "Planet of the Apes" movies was enough.
- BeShirtHappy, on 12/01/2008, -0/+13You're not alone. I've watched them all (or thought I had - I don't remember one showing apes as servants). I have to admit to loving the "Planet" movies... my guilty pleasure. :)
- Relentl3ss, on 12/01/2008, -0/+13Not interested until someone does a big screen version of 'Stop the planet of the apes I want to get off'...
"I hate every ape I see from Chimpan-a to chimpan-zeeee" - phxsuns32, on 12/01/2008, -0/+12Of course you can!
- WhiskeyWrites, on 12/01/2008, -0/+11I was thinking the exact same thing while reading this, and wondered if I was the only one who made it through all of them. The only thing I can think of is this will be more of a prequel to the new movie, forgetting the whole "talking apes go back in time and have a kid" stuff from the original movies.
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -1/+12Ape has killed Ape!
- j3ff86, on 12/01/2008, -0/+11Can I play the piano anymore?
- agsinger, on 12/01/2008, -0/+11Well I couldn't before!
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -0/+10I hate every ape I see from ChimpanA to ChimpanZe.
- Tonicks, on 12/01/2008, -0/+10From what little of that musical we saw in the Simpsons, I know it would be amazing. Why waste time on a prequel when they have such great material already! I want a Planet of the Apes musical, dammit!
- mark076h, on 12/01/2008, -0/+9Does anyone know the deal with the ending to the Planet Of the Apes remake? what the hell happened?
- Pegasus_Strain, on 12/01/2008, -0/+9I thought I was alone. No I know I am not. Thank you Law Giver!
- Gemfinder, on 12/01/2008, -1/+9Nope, you're not. My elder brother took my brother and I to a PotA marathon the local cinema had 'way back in the '70s. We had a blast, in the theatre for twelve hours straight and not bored for one second.
- IphtashuFitz, on 12/01/2008, -1/+9Agreed. Ricardo Montalbán was to blame for not turning over the English-speaking baby chimp that eventually led the ape revolution against mankind.
- ptsuk, on 12/01/2008, -0/+8thank gawd someone else remembered this as well! I'm sure the new movie will be a mashup of those three and SUCK harder than mark wallberg in an egg shaped spacecraft! btw "tell your mother hi for me".
- funkymonkey01, on 12/01/2008, -0/+8Ha ha ha. Brilliant
- ianos83, on 12/01/2008, -0/+8If it's a prequel does that mean it'll be back when earth was normal? As in, before the titular apes took over?
Makes sense to me.
"Planet of the Peoples"
Ah, Stu would appear to think the same way I do... - jerrycan, on 12/01/2008, -0/+8Wait a sec. Tattoo was a baby chimp?
- palehorse864, on 12/01/2008, -0/+8Well I couldn't before! *plays piano*
- slvrbullet87, on 12/01/2008, -0/+7I flog my monkey all the time and he is still alive
- MrCapo, on 12/01/2008, -0/+7Damn dirty prequels
- cnot3, on 12/01/2008, -0/+7God, I hope it's a musical.
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -0/+7BOW YOUR HEAD!!!
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -0/+7You've finally made a monkey out of meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
- mistergoomba, on 12/01/2008, -0/+6"Do you find that Planet Of The Apes, its four movie sequels, movie remake, TV series, cartoon show and books haven’t left you satisfied?" ... as a matter of fact, no
- rowlodge, on 12/01/2008, -1/+7a sequel to the prequel,to the sequel, of the prequel, yay!
- pitchblack16, on 12/01/2008, -1/+7lol, Ive never seen you get this worked up over an article before
- SemiSarcastic, on 12/01/2008, -0/+5Sounds like it'll be just as good as the last POTA reboot movie...
- Frozo, on 12/01/2008, -1/+6"APE KILLED APE!"
- DivisibleByZero, on 12/01/2008, -0/+5Wait, weren't the 3rd, 4th, and 5th movies form the original really prequels? They showed us Apes going back in time, then getting smart and then rebelling, then subjugating humans. I guess we didn't see the transitions that led to apes becoming house pets in place of cats and dogs, but that would make for a really lame movie.
(But probably not as lame as the Marky Mark remake). - chuckDontSurf, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4It doesn't really matter. Not even Tim Burton knows what it means.
- jedinate, on 12/02/2008, -0/+4I loved them all growing up and I'll still stop and watch one, when I'm flipping channels and find one.
- Wonderama, on 12/01/2008, -5/+9Movies are not his cup of tea.
- Asianwaste, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4To be fair, Planet of the Apes was passed from over 3 directors. When it finally landed on Tim Burton's lap, it was a steaming regurgitated pile of turd.
- petebot, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4"No, you'll never make a monkey out of meeeeeee"
- thebrinkman, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4*movie trailer overdub*
This time... it's different. - martoq, on 12/01/2008, -2/+6As long as Tim Burton isn't attached I will be interested.
- emazur, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4The TV series isn't very well known but it's quite good - if you like old school Star Trek you should like it. As for the 5 movies, the original is best, followed by #3 (Escape). #2 (Beneath) was weird but interesting, and #4 (Conquest) is there to tell you how it all happened, but #5 (Battle) didn't do anything for me.
Never heard of the cartoon series, and have mixed feelings about the 2001 remake.
So yeah, that's my 2 cents -
