- Ghostalker, on 06/04/2009, -15/+615Couldn't they have picked a better image for Batman and Robin?
- zip000, on 06/04/2009, -2/+488No, I don't think they could have.
- Wailord, on 06/04/2009, -8/+363That's insane. But seriously, it's ridiculous how every movie they push out is absolutely incredible, regardless of age. Even the little shorts rock. I just saw Up and thought it was one of their best movies (behind Bug's Life, Toy Story, Finding Nemo) and the short before it was just so well done. I didn't really care for The Incredibles or Cars, but both did well at the box office. Bravo to them and here's to them keeping it up for years to come.
Edit: Crap, I forgot about Wall-E and Ratatouille, both of which were awesome... the former moreso, but regardless... and Monsters, Inc... - kinseyincanada, on 06/04/2009, -8/+279you didnt like The Incredibles!?!?!?
- WeirdEdsel, on 06/04/2009, -4/+202The reason is because most (all?) of their movies are original. The rest of Hollywood is too busy making remakes and movies based off of previously written stories.
- Synergy65, on 06/04/2009, -15/+191Pixar is like the Blizzard of movie making.
- TheKingInYellow, on 06/04/2009, -4/+172it's not so incredible when you think about the quality of writing combined with quality of visuals. pixar has never failed to tell a compelling story with every facet of human emotion so perfectly balanced and intertwined. you can't even begin to compare pixar to any other animation studio or franchise because pixar isn't in the same league with the other guys.
a few years ago i loved finding nemo and now that i'm a father i love it even more. i get something new out of the film. that's what pixar is about; stories and emotions. i look at dreamworks productions and want to vomit. in my opinion, cheap jokes and flimsy stories in order to turn a profit defines dreamworks.
pixar creates an experience that will last a lifetime and is timeless. - inactive, on 06/04/2009, -2/+161Try to watch every Pixar film and not smile.
You just can't help but be uplifted. - TurboMan, on 06/04/2009, -3/+138I never cry in the movie theatres.
Up made me cry within the first 15 minutes, along with me laughing, being amazed at how beautiful it is, shocked, and overall invested in every character in the movie.
Pixar gets it. - tomz17, on 06/04/2009, -10/+129Not adjusted for inflation!!! Given that ALL of pixars movies are fairly recent, this comparison is meaningless.
- djb28, on 06/05/2009, -11/+122Pixar is like the ValvE of movie making.*
fixed that for you. - Devine122, on 06/04/2009, -2/+110Pixar makes awesome movies. Toy Story ftw.
- teamgwho, on 06/05/2009, -1/+100if someone named turboman admits to crying at the opening sequence, then i don't feel so ashamed at my tears any more.
//thanks - merreborn, on 06/04/2009, -1/+91I hope you're posting from the ER.
- Eodmatt2336, on 06/04/2009, -1/+84I was wondering if anyone else noticed that. Glad I wasn't the only one
- darkmotion, on 06/04/2009, -1/+83As Brad Bird's Pixar debut, I still think The Incredibles is still one of their strongest films!
- Ben174, on 06/04/2009, -5/+79Perhaps this one: http://www.bugben.com/drop/genes-tattoo.jpg
- christoast, on 06/04/2009, -3/+75It's because you get more people going per visit with a family movie. A whole family will go, mom, dad, brother and sister. 4 tickets. With Bond, only mom and dad will go or maybe just dad and a friend - 2 tickets. For star trek (not including 2009) only I will go - 1 ticket :(
A theater with a bunch of lonely geeks is wroth a lot less AND are a lot harder to please then the family who just wants to see the snooty cat, and the courageous dog, with the celebrity voices. - LocalDocal, on 06/05/2009, -0/+71Is that the Joker making out with Reptar? What could have possibly compelled someone to draw this?
- twishart, on 06/04/2009, -0/+65Literally?
- zslice, on 06/04/2009, -0/+63Just so UP, I have to admit, the concept sounded far less cool than robots or monsters, but I should have know by now not to underestimate.
- garagepunk, on 08/05/2009, -0/+61mostly, my favourite films are filled with sex and violence, but, last year, my favourite film was Wall E
- u8eR, on 06/05/2009, -2/+62Lord of the Rings trilogy:
Together: $2,915,155,189
Avg. per film: $971,718,396
Avg. Tomatometer: 94%
Pixar's first nine films did better for gross revenue, worse for average per film, and equal for average Tomatometer. - monkeyrun, on 06/04/2009, -1/+59you have no soul
- babyheadout, on 06/04/2009, -1/+50On a side note, I appreciate how 9 out of 10 NPR interviews I hear with a Pixar director references Hayao Miyazaki at some point during the interview.

***** - Greg2k, on 06/05/2009, -0/+47Dreamworks movies are about farts and Smash Mouth
- gilschaefer, on 06/05/2009, -0/+46see Rules: 34
- mirunit, on 06/04/2009, -27/+73None of the other movies are adjusted for inflation, so this is essentially useless.
- stackolee, on 06/04/2009, -0/+46Yeah, adjusted for inflation, the Sean Connery run of James bond would easily match Pixar and then some.
- damack, on 06/04/2009, -0/+44Theres nothing incredible about their sales figures the real incredible thing is just how well they make their movies.
Disneys movies all follow a similar pattern but how well their executed is phenomenal.
The amount of work they put into each movie is testament to why they make so much money and why they need to make more.
I'm rooting for Toy Story 3 as the first animated movie to take a billion dollars at the worldwide cinema. - TheCollective00, on 06/05/2009, -1/+43I will not fall for reverse psychology.
- ninzo09, on 06/04/2009, -0/+42holy dumb ***** batman, that's homoerotic
- s0ny, on 06/05/2009, -0/+41http://mac101.net/shared/pixar_vs_dreamworks.jpg
Funniest representation of dreamworks Ive ever seen. - cubicledrone, on 06/04/2009, -0/+39Understandable considering Hayao Miyazaki is a living legend.
Not to mention the fact he is good friends with John Lasseter. - TehFonz, on 06/04/2009, -2/+41Where are the Lord of the Rings comparisons?
- IFEice, on 06/04/2009, -1/+39In attack of dreamworks, watch Shrek 3 and Ice Age 2.
- Chordonblue, on 06/04/2009, -0/+38It seems to me that Dreamworks and other minor league 3D animators use a lot of modern cliche's to express their humor. Much like old cartoons from the 40's, people from the future will likely not 'get' why having Katie Couric as the lead 'newsfish' was sorta funny or hundreds of other modern-day items.
But you'll notice that Pixar never relies on that sort of thing. Their movies, for all intents and purposes are timeless. - Falldog, on 06/04/2009, -5/+43"Let's throw some bad movies in there to ***** up the average.
Nah, it doesn't matter if they're not from the same company or same director." - SkippyDoorknob, on 06/04/2009, -2/+39Just because they're animated doesn't mean they're "kids movies".
- macmcraeart, on 06/05/2009, -4/+41not liking the incredibles is ***** sacrilege.
- yevkasem, on 06/04/2009, -1/+38they may have beaten jurassic park in sales, but call me when they put a velociraptor in their movie.
- zip000, on 06/05/2009, -0/+35well, laughing does burn calories. So he could have laughed a tiny bit of his ass off.
- fakeplasticsnow, on 06/04/2009, -4/+36I really think that this was kind of misleading due to its lack of accounting for inflation. Many of the Bond and Star Wars movies grossed less due to money being worth more at the time of their release. Now I'm no Pixar hater or anything, but I don't think that they are as dominant as this picture suggests.
- freefalll, on 06/05/2009, -0/+32"then the family who just wants to see the snooty cat, and the courageous dog, with the celebrity voices"
I think you mean Dreamworks? Pixar rarely uses celebrity voices, and if they do, it's not what they're promoting.
It's all about the quality of the film, and they make some incredible ones at that. - neonoodle, on 06/05/2009, -2/+34Go drink a RedBull and watch Crank 2. Maybe that will keep your ADD-addled brain interested for a minute.
- JantjePietje, on 06/04/2009, -1/+29The article is lying just check the numbers with a different source james bond films should have brought in $11,5 billion adjusted for inflation not $5 billion
This guy is correct and you are stupid enough not to check things even when it must be obvious from the numbers that something is off - DirtPile, on 06/05/2009, -0/+28To infinity, and beyond!
::smiles:: - jthhtj, on 06/04/2009, -1/+29If I digg it, does that mean I like it? I digged it.
