- xXShadowstormXx, on 10/12/2007, -8/+33I can't wait for the 3rd sequal coming out next year. That's going to be a blast.
2nd one was somewhat darker than the original. - mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23they shouldn't do it by how much they made, especially when they charge more than $8 a ticket these days. They should do it by how many tickets are sold.
- Double-Z, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27As a CG artist, this movie knocked my socks off. I can't wait for the third episode.
- gk128, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Disney actually puts out ALOT of stuff you'd not associate them with. Pulp Fiction for one. They own studios such as Marimax for stuff like that.
- RetroRufio, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23I'm just wondering, will the rum still be gone?
- skyhighrockets, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15And the MPAA says they are suffering from poor ticket sales...
- TenebrousX, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18As a regular person, this movie knocked my socks off
- sfly510, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15The first one was really good. The second one was just okay and not impressive. It was a little too fantastical if you ask me. I think the third one will be as good as the first though.
- VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9More than $8 a ticket? Try $13 in L.A.
Yes, it's actually CHEAPER to wait for a good DVD sale price than to see it once in the theater. - Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10This is a public service announcement: Sequ-e-l.
Thank you for your time! - shoelace414, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I do believe Gone with the Wind would be the movie that takes that title.
according to IMDB:
If box office receipts for the movie were adjusted for inflation, it would be the top grossing movie of all time; Star Wars (1977) would only be the second most successful movie of all time. According to the Guinness World Records homepage the total gross in 2005 figures would be $3,785,107,801. - stauf7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8This is why the MPAA needs to stop bitching about piracy. Yes piracy occurs but it's not hurting them as much as they like to think. We've had a number of recent movies make first weekend records and now this movie made 3rd overall. Where's the decline? It's obvious people still go to movies. Stop putting out ***** movies fueled by endless marketing that are just going to drain your wallets when you don't get a return. Don't expect everyone to go see a movie because it's hyped to hell. Make better movies.
I enjoyed Pirates 2, and it seems like a lot of other people did as well. - fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6As an alien, this movie knocked my socks off
- brendanc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It's Miramax
- afrazkhan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6
Interesting. According to my searches on the most popular torrent sites (purely for research purposes), it's also the most pirated film on bittorrent to date. Therefore this can't be right, it must be the _poorest_ grossing film of all time. Perhaps the entire article is a massive typo. Yes, that's the only way to explain it. - 1911wolf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5What a shame, it could have been #1. But I and many others stopped going to the theater when the price of a ticket passed $10, and they started searching you for food, and the price of a small -- mostly ice-- cup of soda hit $5.
I do miss the screaming little kids and that one person with the large hat that always likes to sit in front of me though. :( - jackarmstrong, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Marimax, and Touchstone i believe...
- JackHallows, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There better be ninjas in the next one.
- zaph47, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This digg has pictures from the set of the 3rd movie. (SPOILER ALERT)
http://www.digg.com/movies/Tons_of_Exclusive_Set_Pics_from_Pirates_of_the_Caribbean_3 - TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The two movies that it's up against (Return of the King and Titanic) are fairly recent and movie ticket prices have remained pretty much the same as they were since those two movies.
- pixelmixer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Thats true.. I never even thought of it that way... It could make a huge difference.
Shoot... even in baseball, when they extended the season a few games they didnt actually give Roger Marris(sp) the record. They used a * to signify there was a difference in number of games played. (of course that was changed, but it still goes to show things like that actually make a difference) - edmack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I loved the first film, but felt the storyline of the second was flat. It lacked the well rounded arcs and raison d'etre of the first.
- Necraz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5The first moving was amazing, it had a great mixture of story, humor, drama, etc. The second one was good, but for some reason I didn't enjoy it as much as the first. It had more action and humor, but I found the origional story more entertaining.
That being said, they really ramped up the action scenes and CG in the sequal. All of the CG scenes look amazing...they looked 100% real with no hint that they were computer genorated or cartoony. In addition, Pirates 2's action scenes were more numerous, and more action packed. If they manage to bring the best points of the first and second together... - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I still can't believe Titanic is #1. The movie was such a chick flick and I couldn't deal with girls crying when Leonardo DiCaprio died. That along with the most annoying song sung by an even more annoying singer just makes me want to pour acid on my balls before watching that movie again.
- eleven, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think that is because it's only 1/2 a movie, the next movie will continue the story.
- WalkerBurgin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Has anybody else recognized the similarities between this series and the Matrix series? The first movie was awesome, and can stand alone. The second and third movies effectively make up one movie... Just sayin.
- Broccoli, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Personally i didnt like the swquel to much. It strayed to far from what made the original awsome. Who knows mabey i will like the third better. But apparently not everybody thought the same as i did.
- zaph47, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4sorry about the double comment
- Nerys, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This movie ? AWESOME ! its RECORD sales ? meaningless since tickets cost 3 and 4 times what they used to cost.
so the numbers mean nothing compared to other movies. - estacado, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In the second movie, they tanned Kiera Knightley too much. I like her pale. I hope she becomes pale again in the third one.
- bvaughn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It is number 6 in the US.
http://www.movieweb.com/movies/boxoffice/alltime.php - mike_p, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2When I was in England, they had an offer (probably still do) called "Orange Wednesdays". Orange is a cellular service... You text a number (on Wednesday, duh) and get a code so two adults get in for the price of one... any movie. Simple.
I don't know why America doesn't have anything like this... It might be worth it to get people to start coming back to the theater more often. I would still bring your own snacks unless you like spending $7 on a combo or just on nachos. Kinda defeats the whole point of saving money. - kayjay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i bet it wouldve passed the 2 billiom mark... IF IT WERENT FOR THE EVIL MOVIE DOWNLOADERS!
once again this proves that the movie industry still can make a lot of movie...
and you cant blame the internet users. maybe the ppl just got more picky what movies they want to watch? a lot of the stuff that comes from hollywood is CRAP. - mousy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yar, i love POTC!
- Splutterbug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think I must be the only person in the world who hasn't seen this yet
- cbiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If on opening day you could...
A. Go to the show and see it
B. Go to the video store and rent it or buy it.
C. Download or stream it on the internet.... They would be at 4 billion! - meepus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://askaninja.com/node/1175
Ask A Ninja's response to this film clearly depicts why it was utterly terrible.
It just goes to show: popularity is often not related to merit. At all. - DanNZN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I always thought this was a silly argument sense if the tickets were cheaper then more people would go out to see it so the money would end up at the same place anyway. Plus a billion dollars is not exactly too shabby in any case.
- robster113, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well with inflation that would mean less than titanic's feat and also with a rising population more people go to the cinema (maybe)
- Wavey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I found a reference at Lee's Movie Data that says the average ticket price is now about $6.56. (Not sure if that's just US or worldwide.)
So that would translate to around 152.4 million tickets. - sbuzz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I think that the first one had a much deeper storyline....second one has way more laughs and a lot of twists and turns and the end was absolutely fantastic....i just hope the third one is as good, trilogies barely ever work (look at the godfather) but pirates really should aim high...
- Rivetgeek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Wouldn't that technically be the second sequal, and the third movie?
- edmack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I paid for a full movie!
- kwanbis, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I really agree with you. It is at best an average movie. I love to see cine, but i got disapointed with the sequel.
- slimer369, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2The differences between Clerks 2 and POTC: DMC are that Clerks 2 was rated R and not a family movie like POTC and Clerks 2 viewed in less theaters.
I completely agree that Clerks 2 is as good as the original. It's tough to say if it was actually better - mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7no it doesn't, those girls looked fake, and boring as hell.
- LIBERTY06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Stupid movie. First one was the best; they should have never made this one; or a 3rd one for that matter.
- Rivetgeek, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Haha a couple friends of mine were extras in that (90% of the pirates that werent ***** were from ren faires). Went to the premier even. That was actually a pretty good flick, as far as pornos go.
- Blaxter, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1This indicates that the humanity is condemned
- Shabadoo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Well, there's no accounting for taste. That movie was a steaming pile of stupidness.
