- chaosmachine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+93"no such thing as bad publicity"
hmm.. so that's what sony is up to... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+83Wow, RIAA/MPAA, you really showed us!
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -4/+76Well, your analogy is a little off.... It's more like.... something where the same head grows back, but double the size... like a dandelion.
Nah, dandelion isn't menacing enough. Hydra it is. - devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -4/+67As they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity. Just look at Paris Hilton.
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -6/+64Unfortunately, there is publicity for bad subjects. Hence: Paris Hilton.
- stmiller, on 10/12/2007, -10/+67http://www.duggmirror.com/movies/Pirate_Bay_s_popularity_DOUBLES_after_3_days_of_being_shut_down/
- Flashman, on 10/12/2007, -6/+54Can you say 'hydra'?
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -3/+48i am certain that MPAA is reading this and thinking: "oh *****, we probably shouldn't have issued that press release.."
- Sanchez, on 10/12/2007, -7/+45Let's all record outselves making golf claps and send them to the MPAA!
- itistoday, on 10/12/2007, -10/+48How about something more appropriate? Like a pirate with a peg leg? Eh? Get it? Someone chopped it off but he's got another one! And you can try chopping that one off as much as you like, but as long as there's wood he'll still have his leg... And if enough people pity him for all the abuse he's been through, who knows? Perhaps someone'll throw him a parrot that'll mock his assailants. YAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!
Well.. it could happen! ;-) - DarkDays, on 10/12/2007, -5/+40What a backfire
- eqisow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&range=3m&size=medium&compare_sites=&y=r&url=thepiratebay.org#top
The Pirate Bay traffic accoridng to Alexa. Seems like it more than doubled, then pretty much dropped back to previous levels. - aquadude, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31Hah, the MPAA helped TPB grow.
- CharlesDarwin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31So a site that was linked to from digg.com and slashdot.com repeatedly over a short period of time saw an increase in web traffic. Wow, that is simply amazing!
- dude3609, on 10/12/2007, -9/+35or to make it sound legit, "Really Ignorant ***** of America".. ;D
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27"..Alexa.com, a US-based Internet monitoring company.."
more like - Alexa.com, a US-based spyware toolbar monitoring company - MetricLobster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27im thinking its more likely that they think the whole pirate bay thing is a huge success
but we have always known they are not firmly grounded in reality - dude3609, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26yeah.. they had the "Swedish authorities sink pirate bay" link on the front page of mpaa.org for a long time even after thepiratebay.org came back up..
Here is what i mean http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/7851/mpaapiratesbay1av.jpg ;) - dharm, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24[insert pointless comment here]
anyways, it was obvious that this would make them more popular... people who dont even download torrents are visiting it just for the story, also being on almost all major news sites on the internet, also tv does that...
as the saying goes... "What doesn't kill you, will make you stronger" - dude3609, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21"http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&range=3m&size=medium&compare_sites=&y=r&url=thepiratebay.org#top

Perhaps that has something to do when it first came back online and everybody from diggslashdottvwhatever else, were on the website refreshing 5 times a second to see if it was online yet. Even when it came back online people were IM'ing friends saying TPB is back up and etc.. It was just a temporary 'phaze'. Although i do beleive it when they say it attracted more users from all the attention, but there WAS a spike of traffic for about a couple days. - ejm508, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22Major Prick Association of America?
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Sweet, sweet justice.
- S!L3N7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17IMO, The reason this has happened is because the pirate bay showed a complete loyalness to its users. 3 Days after being shut down they were back online.
I Believe they are some real forces in the file sharing community.
Long Live TPB
+ Digg - SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19No such thing as bad publicity.
I guess the MPAA and RIAA have never heard of that one. Thanks guys for furthering the cause of piracy! - jguy584, on 10/12/2007, -9/+24Ahh my favorite word....
OWNED - dude3609, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12uhmmmmmmmm....... i think its,
The Pirate Bay: 6
MPAA: -15000
or so. ;) - babbling, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11This isn't really surprising. The more "don't download movies" ads in cinemas, and the more media publicity because of lawsuits/raids this gets, the more people are going to be reminded "you can download anything you want off the internet".
This thought is probably occurring to the MPAA right about now. There hasn't previously been a case that made it as clear as The Pirate Bay did. - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15actually the surge of over 2x the traffic was only brief.. it has since returned to the normal level (according to alexa)
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&range=3m&size=large&compare_sites=&y=r&url=thepiratebay.org - dude3609, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13yeah hehe.
Every time they try to punch piracy in the face, it bounces back even stronger.. you'd think they would have learned by now about that, and about how 'scaring' other people into court wont scare me into not downloading hostel.dvdscr.xvid-llg.avi .. lol
If i like a movie alot i'll buy it on dvd.. - Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13I like that analogy 'itistoday'...it actually makes sense :P Except in reality it is, as long as there are people/countries willing to host the torrents, there will still be a PirateBay
- bigtabs, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11..and then sue them for copying it from their email accounts.
- puffarthur, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10if i like a movie a lot i'll download the dvd and seed it for a week
- zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Mpaa keep up the good work. :)
- RadiatedAnt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8MPAA should get into the marketing business for their so called "beloved artists" they could make box office tickets soar through the roof if they ban a movie for 3 days but release it anyways.
- projektmayhem, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9indeed... i remember being buggered by that a few years ago...
anyway, not surprising on the news of pirate bay (YARRRR etc.), what were they expecting? - GuyHitByTruck, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10More like a weed.. but not in a bad way, of course. Still, you cut one down and two more grow in its place!
- phreakout, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Barbera Streisand ? wtf
- xerus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7MPAA* ;D
- BrandonRohan9, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13what did they expect.. you tell people they can't have it and they just want it more.
- aubray1741, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"(according to alexa)"
Because everyone using an adware browser toolbar collects the world's most accurate statistics. - wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I believe that I also had that Ben Kenobi comment when TPB first went offline. All this has done is give TPB a bunch of publicity that it didn't have before. If any of you listen to TWiT, check out this week. You hear Dvorak browsing through the torrents and his general take was "wow, there is some good ***** here" (paraphrased).
I swear these guys have a degree of self delusion that exists elsewhere in the US only withing the Washington DC beltway. They simply aren't losing that much business from torrents. If they spent half the time and effort doing something like, oh, I don't know, maybe making some decent films and getting some new good music and not charging an arm and a leg for it they would double their revenue in five years. - Kola, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I sure as hell never used it before it was shutdown. Thanks RIAA & MPAA, they need to "shutdown" some more sites that i haven't heard of before. Keep up the good work.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9It was the MPAA. not the RIAA. Get it right...
- phreakout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think you'll find it was :
"Was nicht mich umbringt, macht mir staerker"
by Nietzsche. - Aurarch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7ssshhh... you're not supposed to know that
- aristofeles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Nope. They are thinking more like "we better shut this site down ASAP" and, if they do that again, time to a press release showing everyone that torrent sites are illegal.
Or did you really think they will learn some day? - yoda715, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The Pirate Bay 1
MPAA 0
this fight will get better - christianw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4and pirate bay is laughing all the way to the bank thanks to google...
errr i mean google is laughing all the way to the bank again cause pirate bays ads are probably now making them a killing - stanleyfresh, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Popularity doubled, eh? Guess since they missed out during the raid they gotta catch up, right? ;)
