- Fenrok, on 10/12/2007, -8/+652I thought this was about being a swash-buckling pirate that sailed the seven seas.
I was fooled. - SlvrEagle23, on 10/27/2007, -19/+604"You wouldn't steal a handbag...you wouldn't steal a DVD...Downloading...Pirated...Movies...is...Stealing"
Yes, MPAA, you're right. I wouldn't literally grab something that belonged to someone else and run off with it. That would be larceny.
I would, however, run into their house, make physical copies of everything they owned and run off with those copies. That would be a little more like cloning. If you cloned me and then you ran off with that clone, nobody would accuse you of kidnapping ME, would they?
That's deep ***** there. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -24/+422Yea, and the anti-piracy advert sucks too. Too loud and flashy.
There's a difference between stealing a handbag and pirating. Pirating doesn't physically, mentally, or emotionally hurt ANYONE. - Wisgary, on 10/12/2007, -9/+326Real reason to be a pirate:

But only within her pirates role, outside of that, she's been looking like crap. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -32/+207Yes, but not directly. If I download a pirated DVD, no one will go broke.
- synaesthesia, on 10/12/2007, -9/+170I'll be honest, if I could steal purses and cars from the comfort of my own room with little to no risk of being caught, you'd better believe i would.
- antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+138I like those ads:
You wouldn't steal a car?
You wouldn't rape a nun?
So why pirate a movie? - marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -20/+156I'd rape a nun.
- JFitzpatrick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+111The otherday I rented a movie from Blockbuster. The movie had that unskippable-long-annoying anti-piracy ad at the beginning. The disc was also scuffed badly enough that it skipped all over the place and locked up in a ton of places on 2 out of 3 DVD players in my house (oddly the really really cheap one just stuttered its way through the scuffs.)
At any rate I thought it rather entertaining that because I opted to go rent the movie in a legitimate fashion that my experience watching it was significantly worse that that of a downloaded movie (of which I'd never had to watch a stupid anti-piracy ad, watch the inane animation that loads before the menu is finally useable, or sit through skipping and movie lockup.)
You know you're absolutely brilliant at your job when the product you produce is inferior to a pirated copy of itself. - Fhionnlaoch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+100Don't forget the ads you can't skip through. Nothing like having to watch "Coming Soon" features for movies that came out on DVD 5 years ago.
- mc7winkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+91I claim Disney to be the worst offender of that.
- wafflez, on 10/12/2007, -10/+97@wisgary...
dude her chest has been shopped....ALOT.. - gamer31, on 10/12/2007, -10/+91sorry about comment abuse but sites down so
http://duggmirror.com/movies/Pic_Why_you_SHOULD_be_a_pirate/piracy2.jpg - LGod, on 10/12/2007, -3/+72When first read it, I was thinking of the "Arrr... Matey" kind of pirate.
- nzknzknzk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+66Just pirate AnyDVD, then!
- nzknzknzk, on 10/12/2007, -12/+77They are not losing money because most of the time, you wouldn't buy it anyway. So they would never have made those 15 dollars off of you.
- Renton, on 10/27/2007, -5/+68http://gprime.net/flash.php/youareapirate
- neoform, on 10/12/2007, -2/+57Just what we needed, to pay $30 for a program to remove the ads, then you get sued by the MPAA for violating the DMCA when you do so.
- basket548, on 10/12/2007, -1/+56Anyone else think that it'd be a really hot pirate girl? (arr matey type)
Must say, I was disappointed... - okinau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+49And what's the deal with the FBI warning at the very end of most movies where the quality looks like a tape of a tape of a tape?
- StinkyPete, on 10/12/2007, -5/+45Why couldn't the kids go see the Pirate movie?
It was rated Arrr. - rorian, on 10/12/2007, -3/+43Mmm, every time I watch a DVD I wonder why I'm paying for it. All I get is some crappy features I don't want to watch, and some crappy anti-piracy clips which I cannot fast-forward through. I guess the term "Preaching to the converted" never really clicked with the Hollywood execs..
- nipuL, on 10/12/2007, -3/+42And now for a reason not to be a pirate
http://www.spectaculartoys.com/Catalog/Dora_The_Explorer/DTEvideo/DTEvideopiradv.gif - reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+37Just get a pirated version of AnyDVD.
Ain't piracy grand?
EDIT: nkzknkcnkdjsajdaksj beat me to it. - hollywoodcole, on 10/12/2007, -5/+39Aww, I was hoping to comment on why you SHOULD be a NINJA!
NINJA++ - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34I loved when they'd play those anti-piracy adverts... in the movie theatres. Kinda preaching to the wrong crowd, huh?
- CanceledCzech, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34@nzknzknzk
About 90% of the things I have pirated I would not have if they weren't free. It's either I don't get it free or I don't even bother, so they aren't making money off me anyway. - metafore, on 10/12/2007, -15/+46before it goes:

ps - worst. fake. ad. ever. - EmperorAwesome, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28Yeah, that new add they're playing in theaters makes a lot of assumptions. As I was watching it, I thought to myself, "Y'know, I'd probably steal a secluded car if I knew someone to sell it to, and a DVD from a place with lax security, maybe even a handbag if the chick was a *****."
Thanks, MPAA, I'd have never thought of stealing a handbag before. - PixelVision, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23Why do people ask that? Do you not have any idea of how Digg works? Good grief!
- FastZ, on 10/12/2007, -8/+31@stalks
Hundreds of people work for years on Linux but it still survives...even though it is freely distributed. How do you explain that? - DNABeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21>>"You wouldn't steal a Car,... You wouldn't steal a handbag...you wouldn't steal a DVD...Downloading...Pirated...Movies...is...Stealing"
As standup comedian Alistair Crawford says "If I could download a car,.. I ***** would." - InfiniteNothing, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26I think pirating helps economically: consider for example the SACD. It never really took off. One reason might be that it just isn't as easy to rip as a CD. You think Windows, Photoshop or Office would be the standards they are today if they weren't so easy to rip off back in the good ole days?
- neoform, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25Maybe, but it's truthful..
- Geoff9920, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Or you could just add some "special" firmware to the DVD player that allows you to skip any scene you want.
- ShuttleDisaster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22but i don't wanna be a pirate!
- violentvinyl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20"I thought this was about being a swash-buckling pirate that sailed the seven seas."
Like we needed a reason to be THAT kind of pirate. - cualcrees, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22mmm.. the nun thing I don't know, man... I ain“t making any promises...
- IareKEVLAR, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21"You wouldn't steal a purse."
...No, but if someone offered to copy nearly infinitely it in every way for me for free, I would not decline. - itsme92, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18care to elaborate?
- Stalks, on 10/12/2007, -14/+31I'm not anti anything, but the idea of it not hurting anyone is rediculous. Hundreds of people work on producing and publishing films and software. Imagine if you had spent 2 years of your life creating a sellable product only to have it copied and distributed for free. Piracy can really hurt the small companies, why should it be any different for others?
- nipuL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17So get dvdshrink. It's free and compresses DVD9s to DVD5.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21I went to the cinema for the first time in ages yesterday to see Hot Fuzz, there was a warning beforehand telling us how poor cam versions of these films are. They made them look like they were VHS quality or something, my mates and I had a laugh out load at that point.

sounds like a winner to me - Fhionnlaoch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Don't forget having to shell out more money for a recordable DVD-DL.
- s14sh3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I'm just glad that DIGG lets us talk about it. I love Fark, but not being to talk about bittorrent is stupid.
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -8/+232 words why you should be a pirate....
Kiera Knightly - linuxpenguin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I do.
- rdj262, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14What really gets me, other than having to watch the anti-piracy ad on the DVD's I own, is being forced to watch the previews of other movies. Some of my older DVD's allow me to skip the previews - but newer ones FORCE me to watch them! Yeah, I know, if I go to the movie theater I can't hit a button to skip the previews. But I CAN choose to come into the theater 5 minutes late.
By the time I get all that F@#$ing plastic off of the damn DVD case I'm in no mood to have the F@#$ing fast forward buttons on my DVD player fail to work! -
