- Blah_Blah_Blah, on 10/11/2007, -3/+94eh, it looks like a small piece copied and rotated 3 times. not that cool
- sockpuppets, on 10/11/2007, -6/+30When I die bury me where this story is buried, in the kingdom of lame.
- RCcola159, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20Not all that 'stunning'
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15
wow, a kaleidescope photoshop effect on a simple cityscape... - arcooke, on 10/11/2007, -3/+17And what makes it even less cool is that a couple buildings towards the bottom (in the middle), overlap each other and are semi-transparent. A corny mistake that should not have been overlooked.
- BulletsforRingo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9An open-source movie is a wonderful idea and I think a CC licensed poster is quite fitting.
- lsatkins, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I think that description is more "stunning" then the actual picture.
- Phyrefly, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4hay guyz, i can flipz 3 layerz in photosup lul
- madk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Nice pic..but why the ***** would I click on the pic only to display a smaller version.
- mattbrighton, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7Palla has done a number of concept visuals for the project. See more of his work at http://www.pallalink.net
- mattbrighton, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21: Palla's making the visualisations because he is into the project
2: His body of work suggests there's a lot of artistry and thinking behind it
3: It's free to enter this design contest
4: The project is not for profit - smackhero, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3yea, it's ok stylistically. i think if they had a larger or better publicized contest they would receive better results. i'm not impressed.
- LunarHD, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It's so easy to hate on artwork if you are not an artist. The thing about saying, "It Sucks" shows the level of intelligence and creativity of the individual. It helps to say WHY it sucks, otherwise your comment is wasted.
I personally think it's a good start towards the final product, I like the concept but perhaps it could use some tweaking. I would like to see a separation between the folds so that it actually looks like the city is unfolding. Do you have any Night Shots to use? Seems like the city lights would take away the flatness of the image. There isn't enough contrast between buildings and the rest. I think it's chaotic in a sense, this fits the story. I also would need to see where the title of the movie is going to go and what will be the font style to have a final opinion. - EarthernJar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2A colossally slow news day when this weak stuff makes the front page. Couldn't they have at least picked some interesting buildings instead of banal, uninspiring apartment high-rises?
- ifknot, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"Hey Palla can you do a cool image to help traffic to the site and get some subscriptions?"
30 sweat drenched seconds on Photoshop later...
All the "angels" digg it like idiots.
Profit.
But...
Uh oh Palla's reputation in the crapper! - pitchpitch, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1My, Earth really is full of things!
- turpenine, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3I want to pay money to join an open source project too guys!
that sounds aweseom! - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Stunning. . . please.
Marked as LAME - lelo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I agree.
I am looking forward to seeing some entries based on the photo. Think some commenters are missing the point. Just because it is simple to do in photoshop doesn't make it lame. You could say the same thing about Pollack dripping paint onto canvas.
The other photographs on Palla's website are sometimes more complex or just as simple, but he is creating his own style for sure. - philwalsh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1it's not so much about the level of skill as it is the creative thinking behind the concept.
after all, photoshop is just a tool to realise your creativity. - AlphaPrime, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Kinda like Google Earth.
http://wtfhouston.ytmnd.com/ - duffman03, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2A mediocre photoshop artist could've done that in less than 50 keystrokes/mouse clicks.
- nemobushido, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"than"
- leetdood, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3How did this make to the front page? It's kinda lame, I could do that on my own at home. It's nice, sure, but nothing special.
- Vo0Ds, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1yawn, i agree with the general suckyness.
- brightmarc, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1By the way, i just found http://www.vidbu.com , its to save youtube videos, so simply, i must spread the word
- manbear, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0wordpress strikes again, anyone get a mirror?
- ag1ntsm3th, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5This is pretty dumb on just about every creative level. Who the ***** is digging this?
- stickyhoney, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3I thought this was pretty average, lets just duplicate the photoshop layer 3 times then rotate it....
- xkrwlng, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Photoshop FTW? give me a ***** break, that pic SUCKS. all they did was do a copy/paste + rotate the original cityscape 3 times.
- DeathBorn, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Stunning? I think not. I could do that in my sleep.
- Hermitwise, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3anyone else get the feeling of falling forward into the picture and becoming dizzy?
- Ubergoober3, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1@jake8689
Of course it's photoshop you idiot. What you think they built a freakin city like that. - etherworks, on 10/11/2007, -8/+3beautiful
- DeusNova, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2I can't wait till I go to Japan for a month next year.
