- kinseyincanada, on 06/30/2008, -2/+218why don't we just wait till the movie comes out first
- Unskillful, on 06/30/2008, -3/+106This honestly makes it worse. I would rather see him win beacuse of his talent, not because of a campaign.
- twiztidsinz, on 06/30/2008, -8/+78Dead guy = autowin
- nytejade, on 06/30/2008, -3/+66The movie isn't even OUT yet.
I'm not trying to be insensitive, but let's just wait 'till we actually see the film before making judgments, good or bad. - FelixA9, on 06/30/2008, -14/+69Lame. If he hadn't died nobody would even be suggesting it.
- MoralThreat, on 06/30/2008, -6/+58I can already see the negative diggs for this, but if he didn't die would there still be as much talk for an Oscar nod? For a movie that hasn't hit general release yet?
Now I may change my mind after I see the film, but isn't this jumping the proverbial gun a bit? - 1gunners4, on 06/30/2008, -0/+46... have you even seen the movie yet???
- Chicken, on 06/30/2008, -2/+43Exactly, it seems more like a pity Oscar if anything.
- benologist, on 06/30/2008, -12/+51Heath Ledger did better work in his short career than most actors ever achieve. I don't know if he deserves an Oscar for The Dark Knight but if it's up to his usual standard then it's safe to assume he does.
- MaxMWood, on 06/30/2008, -11/+49He wouldn't have won an Oscar if he was alive so why should he win one if he's dead?
- chocobomog, on 06/30/2008, -1/+39Unfortunately, that's not how the Oscar world works. You have to build hype. Many Oscar-nominated films aren't released until December (to be fresh in the minds of voters) but they have Oscar talk for months beforehand. "There Will Be Blood" was released after Christmas yet it was already on the list of "Best Movie" contenders in October. Not saying it is right, it is just how Hollywood works.
- gaqua, on 06/30/2008, -4/+37The real surprise will be when he shows up to accept the Oscar in person.
"Heath, we thought you were dead?!" they'll say.
"I was merely 'acting' dead. Perhaps you've heard of it?" he'll reply with a wry smile.
And then they'll tearfully applaud him, master of his craft.
Heath Ledger: Master Thespian - mediaphile, on 06/30/2008, -1/+29I'm not sure you understand the meaning of the word "posthumous".
- Garlik, on 06/30/2008, -3/+27After reading the title of this article, I have come to the conclusion that dying is a massive epidemic that kills millions of people every year.
- Spartyon, on 06/30/2008, -4/+28why so serious?
- rblancarte, on 06/30/2008, -0/+23Are you an Oscar voter?
- mediaphile, on 06/30/2008, -4/+26What does that have to do with anything? Are you trying to say that comic book characters are incapable of being portrayed through brilliant acting?
Besides, the fact that comic book movies often do not contain the greatest acting only reinforces the idea that Ledgers' allegedly stunning performance should get recognition. - TKardinal, on 06/30/2008, -0/+20Further proof the Oscars shouldn't mean anywhere near what they do. It's based on campaigning, not on merit.
- mywhitenoise, on 06/30/2008, -0/+19Don't forget 10 Things I Hate About You!
- inactive, on 06/30/2008, -1/+17LOL.... its not even ***** out yet
- MaxMWood, on 06/30/2008, -0/+14I agree, I dont mean any disrespect to him or anything but its true.
- ZebZ, on 06/30/2008, -3/+17There is an opinion floating around that the only reason he didn't win for Brokeback Mountain was only because he was so young and had his whole career in front of him to pick up more nominations and wins, and that they gave it to Philip Seymour Hoffman because he was older, more established, had paid his dues and possibly was at his last opportunity to win.
So, residual guilt for wrongingly passing on him combined with a seemingly explosive performance gives credence to the idea that the academy will right past wrongs. - btschul, on 06/30/2008, -6/+20Let's put a smile on that face! hahahahhahhahahah
- Tonicks, on 06/30/2008, -0/+14Maybe his performance is Oscar-worthy. Maybe not. We'll have to wait and see. If he is, in fact nominated, it should be because he was brilliant in that role rather than having died.
- twiztidsinz, on 06/30/2008, -1/+13I'm so sick of people praising movies based on "excellent" trailers.
How many times have you seen a trailer for a movie and been excited to see it, but when you're walking out of the theaters you say to yourself "man, that movie blew"?
The trailer is made to draw you in... get you to slap down $10 (plus concession money) to see a movie.. of course it's going to showcase the best parts. - jboswell2000, on 06/30/2008, -8/+20And soon we'll all be talking about what a tragic genius Amy Winehouse was...no offense to Ledger, of course.
- dinot, on 06/30/2008, -0/+10At least his post was humorous.
- chukd, on 06/30/2008, -0/+9I am sorry, but this is complete *****. The movie isn't out, hardly anyone has seen it. How can they already be giving him the Oscar? The Oscar is such a ***** award anymore. Lets give it to some pretty person that got fat, ugly, etc... . This is the same reasoning, the guy died so he must deserve some sort of award. There is still six months until voting takes place. Let's hold off the praise and calling for the Oscar until there are other movies out to compare his performance.
- bundwallah, on 06/30/2008, -3/+12Wouldn't the irony be delicious?
Heath Ledger, dies: Gets Oscar.
Cuba Gooding Jr, gets Oscar, career dies. - Morphinity, on 06/30/2008, -2/+11Exactly, some people have seen the movie already.
- murphb, on 06/30/2008, -0/+9Where did you hear this?
- thejamesbond, on 06/30/2008, -4/+12................ fail
- opticwind, on 06/30/2008, -2/+9You're an idiot. If his portrayal as the Joker doesn't deserve an Oscar, he shouldn't get one for dying. Hell, he wouldn't want one. What about the other actors who are nominated and did better (possibly)?
- WhiteMike87, on 06/30/2008, -0/+7agree, im sure he will do an amazing job in the movie...but it wouldn't deserve an oscar...whatever that means...
- ByrcheWroot, on 06/30/2008, -1/+8I don't know. People were talking rather highly of his performance before he died.
I think an Oscar nod for a comic book movie would be less surprising these days. Especially after LotR:RotK got all those wins. They generally don't award "films like those" but, maybe things are changing. Considering the real crap that gets turned out anymore. - Chirp08, on 06/30/2008, -0/+7Holy ***** that was HIM in Lords of the Dogtown??
- gannondork, on 06/30/2008, -0/+6he died over 9000 internet years ago
- RandomEyes, on 06/30/2008, -1/+7valid points. digg debate team?
- TinyDanzer, on 06/30/2008, -5/+11A nomination at the very least, i'm sure.
- daschupa, on 06/30/2008, -0/+6If they have a category for 'Best Actor In A Movie Trailer', he'll get my nod.
- twiztidsinz, on 06/30/2008, -0/+6Very few speak ill of the dead.
- feliks2, on 06/30/2008, -0/+5*****, really?
- Spartyon, on 06/30/2008, -6/+11call me an ***** but there are 5 people on the planet who have seen this movie. So, lets all shut the ***** up until it comes out.
- chesscat, on 06/30/2008, -0/+5Oscars should not be given for sentimental and/or maudlin reasons. Of course when has that ever stopped Hollywood before?
- john2kx, on 06/30/2008, -3/+8This is *****.. Would he even be considered if he were still alive?
- inactive, on 06/30/2008, -0/+5Nothing worse than a sympathy award. If he honestly earns it, fine. But hell, the movie isn't even out yet.
- lazyfisherman, on 06/30/2008, -2/+7People are ALREADY saying that about her...
