Seriously pirates? WTF is wrong with you? - Pooball, on 05/02/2009, -4/+395I think they're pirated because people were too ashamed to go see them while in theaters.
- MarcAnon, on 05/02/2009, -9/+341I hate it when they pull out "lost dollar" figures like every downloaded movie equates to a sale. Ever think that the reason those lists don't match up is because studios churn out crap, and people can't be arsed to pay for it? Piracy ranks by a meritocratic system, pop culture by democratic - there IS a difference.
- MalharP16, on 05/02/2009, -1/+270Wait till everyone realizes this infographic is anti-piracy...
- GraceHead, on 05/02/2009, -1/+185Does anyone have a torrent for this infographic?
Thanks in advance. - Elias1, on 05/02/2009, -1/+180This graphic doesn't take into consideration one of the most important aspects of a torrents popularity; the release date.
The only reason Zohan and National Treasure are so high on the pirated list, for example, is because both movies showed up as DVD quality screener leaks over a month before the DVD was released. People naturally want what they can't have, so when a torrent shows up in the time period between theater release and DVD release, it becomes popular.
I'm not even going to get into how ridiculous the downloads-to-money-loss conversion is. - sensor, on 05/02/2009, -3/+131Or because people would never pay to see them.
- Amorn, on 05/02/2009, -15/+116Obligatory:
***** THE RIAA!!!!! - purelithium, on 05/02/2009, -4/+88I actually paid to see Zohan in the theater :( FML
- Ray745, on 05/02/2009, -3/+76I Am Legend grossed 585.3 million worldwide, why is it on the piracy list but not on the box office list? I also enjoy how the sources under each list are under the incorrect lists.
- jeremymccurdy, on 05/02/2009, -5/+75Exactly, just because someone downloads something, doesn't mean that they would have paid to see it if they couldn't download.
- computrius, on 05/02/2009, -0/+56I would like to thank the record companies for that nice list of torrent sites :)
- phoampiper, on 05/02/2009, -4/+59how can there be more downloads per second than searches per second
- pissshivers, on 05/02/2009, -0/+52I refuse to believe Dont Mess With The Zohan was the 4th most pirated movie...
- jmcneilly, on 05/02/2009, -0/+52Indy 4 made THAT much money!? I'm aghast...
- holyskeleton, on 05/02/2009, -11/+56geeks vs dumb people + people who go for the theater experience
- xkmares, on 05/02/2009, -0/+42I am sorry to the creators of The Dark Knight that you did not get 60 million of the 1 Billion that you have already earned. For this I am eternally sorry.
- Antialias, on 05/02/2009, -3/+40If you are projecting onto a blank wall then it isn't a very good home theater. The projection surface often times can make far more difference than the projector you are using.
- vishious, on 05/02/2009, -1/+38not surprised twilight ain't on the pirates top 10.
- Namaha, on 05/02/2009, -0/+36There's a rumor going around that it came out in 2007
So I hear - morepowerr, on 05/02/2009, -1/+36Maybe because they were not worth pay to watch.
- egemenbor, on 05/02/2009, -3/+37am i supposed to stop downloading stuff now or something?
- Me1000, on 05/02/2009, -2/+36***** THE MPAA!!!!!
- inactive, on 05/02/2009, -0/+31Most pirated movies on the list fall under the ' I'd like to check it out but no so much to buy a ticket ' category.
- KevenM, on 05/02/2009, -0/+31Because it debuted, was released, and it came out in 2007
- FreckleEars, on 05/02/2009, -5/+35All of this really just comes down to a regular computer user hearing of a movie and thinking "Do the trailers sell me on it?" If not, then they will probably download the movie to see if it is worth their while. Most are ***** movies so just download it, be disappointed and just delete the movie and forget about the time you just wasted in your life. If the trailers do sell you than you will go. I see no amazement that movies that have good trailers and hype as well as a broad fan base sell more than most crap in theaters.
The entertainment industry needs to learn how to make good movies. It is simple really. Give us entertainment and we will give you money. Waste our time, and it will be nothing more than a bit of bandwidth and negative conversations amongst friends. - Yazilliclick, on 05/02/2009, -0/+30Because other sites link to the torrents so people don't have to search to get them.
- MalharP16, on 05/02/2009, -0/+28Because it debuted in 2007
- pewpewpewpewpew, on 05/02/2009, -0/+27Because it was released in 2007.
- 1upman, on 05/02/2009, -1/+26JUST *****!!!
- inactive, on 05/02/2009, -2/+27That's a ***** of effort for National Treasure 2/
- WiretapStudios, on 05/02/2009, -2/+26*Cue
- twiztidsinz, on 05/02/2009, -3/+26I love how the industry uses the idea that EVERYONE would have bought it if they didn't download it, as if that's an acceptable rational.
- Supernova36, on 05/02/2009, -1/+23So people pirate the crappy films is what I gathered from this..
- paker, on 05/02/2009, -3/+25If I don't download it, and don't go to a theater, but wait until it comes on free TV how is that different than downloading a movie and watching it?
- AdmiralAcbar, on 05/02/2009, -6/+28I actually liked Zohan. Not the greatest movie ever, but still pretty damn funny.
- HEAVYisSPY, on 05/02/2009, -0/+20let me tell you about football. The NY Mets are my favorite squadron.
- kyle212, on 05/02/2009, -2/+21THERE RAPING HIM!
- mordeci, on 05/02/2009, -4/+23I came here to make that exact comment. ***** movies on both sides.
- r1fl3m4n, on 05/02/2009, -0/+19Just because you pirate something doesn't meant that you'll buy it.
- Tubal22, on 05/02/2009, -4/+22That's why box office take has gone up every single year since 2005, when internet got fast and piracy became mainstream right?
- kults, on 05/02/2009, -2/+20I realized it when noticed there were more downloads than searches. Inflated numbers :)
- jthei, on 05/02/2009, -0/+18I heard from a friend of mine who's cousin dated one of the roadies for the band that played the premier and he said it debuted, was released, and came out in 2007.
- CalcProgrammer1, on 05/02/2009, -0/+17Good luck not uploading on a BitTorrent download....even if you set your client to a very low upload it is still going to upload something. I guess you could use a hacked or modded client but that's lame.
- HAL90000, on 05/02/2009, -2/+18Give me one example.
- jeremymccurdy, on 05/02/2009, -0/+16Did you even look at the ***** thing? It's obviously not pro-piracy.
- Schmapdi, on 05/02/2009, -1/+17That's what I took away from this graphic. The most pirated movie last year still made just shy of 1 Billion dollars.
I guess what made it so pirated and yet still so watched was that it was good. Maybe Hollywood should focus on making good movies? - MSstar, on 05/02/2009, -1/+17LOUD NOISES!!!!!
- Vanderkeif, on 05/02/2009, -0/+15Unfair, I seed constantly.
