- IamNOTmrT, on 04/14/2009, -0/+102Requiem For A Dream was the first film I thought of as soon as I saw this submission. That was brutal but I should watch it again. 9 years on that one viewing is still with me.
I saw Audition at an art house, having no idea what it was about. Big mistake. Not a very good first date film. - CoD4, on 04/14/2009, -5/+83totally nailed it
- billricardi, on 04/14/2009, -2/+58Good list. An add might be: Schindler's List, which I saw once and it burned itself into my psyche so deeply, I never need to see it again.
- tinkafoo, on 04/14/2009, -1/+54Wow! 24 things ON A SINGLE PAGE! What's the internet coming to??
- jimdig33, on 04/14/2009, -5/+49American History X is on my list...

- gobbleplex, on 04/14/2009, -3/+42Dugg for being all on one page.
- necromancer, on 04/14/2009, -4/+39Pans Labyrinth? One of the best movies I have ever seen... but I cant bring myself to see it again.
- tizzleG, on 04/14/2009, -1/+32Homeward Bound :'(
- Eupatorus, on 04/14/2009, -0/+31Bookmarked and dugg. I can't believe I haven't seen most of these.
Requiem is a good pick, I couldn't watch that movie for years after I saw it. So depressing. Wasn't so bad the second time around though. Aronofsky FTW! I so need to see The Wrestler..... - Gibletoid, on 04/14/2009, -4/+271 page list.
The internetz are starting to follow the diggz rulez. - kextype, on 04/14/2009, -0/+21Watership down will ***** your kids up.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078480/ - SRSco, on 04/14/2009, -1/+20You missed the point. These are supposedly critically acclaimed movies that have semi disturbing content that make watching them twice painful.
You have bad taste. - JAGUART, on 04/14/2009, -23/+4125. The Passion of the Christ.
- NathanielJ, on 04/14/2009, -4/+22Oldboy.
- apothekari, on 04/14/2009, -0/+18Plague Dogs not on the list.
Plague Dogs is one of the most gut wrenching things I have ever seen.
From those happy folks who brought you Watership Down, an animated tale to haunt you for years.
The ending is the saddest ***** thing you will ever see. - Smokeydabear, on 04/14/2009, -0/+17Say what you will about Cage, but his performance in "Leaving Las Vegas" was top notch. He should have gotten the Oscar for that film. One can only imagine where he'd be now if he did.
- gttim, on 04/14/2009, -2/+18"Bambi"
Spoiler- Because her mother dies, dammit!
"Benji"
Spoiler- Because his girlfriend gets kicked and hurt by the bad guys!
"The Fox and the Hound"
Spoiler- Because the fox's mother goes bounding over the hill and you hear "Bang!" I cried. My step-daughter and I couldn't watch it again. Well, she could, but I couldn't! - Alphateam, on 04/14/2009, -1/+17I totally agree with Requiem. After that Happiness for me. That is just one ***** up scene after the next. Hell I wish I could unwatch it.
- TrevorBradley, on 04/14/2009, -0/+15My family used to vacation in San Diego when I was a kid for Spring Break, where they once put Watership Down on TV as an Easter movie. Because it had bunnies.
My brother and I were 9 and 10, I think. Scarred for life we were... - levitron, on 04/14/2009, -2/+17I saw "Clockwork Orange" 15 years ago, and I still can't bring myself to watch it again. I'm glad I watched it, but it was the first brutal movie my and my buddy saw, and burned itself into my brain.
- StrangeFamous, on 04/14/2009, -0/+15The Fountain is awesome!
Seconding Pi as well, it's one of my faves. - StrangeFamous, on 04/14/2009, -0/+14The difference is that 300 glorifies the battle between two manly armies, while Pan's Labyrinth is a brutal take on the horrors of fascist rule.
It's realistic, one-sided violence against helpless people, which makes it much harder to watch than dudes spinning around with swords cutting heads off. - malechite, on 04/14/2009, -0/+14I love Requiem for a Dream. the music and cinematography is great... It is painful to watch but i've seen it many times, usually while showing it to someone who hasn't seen it before.
- Jektal, on 04/14/2009, -0/+14Really? It's a strong movie with a fair amount of violence, but I've watched it a couple times...
- deathandtaverns, on 04/14/2009, -0/+13That's not the worst part of fox and the hound. The worst part is when the lady takes to fox to the nature preserve and has to shoo him away. The thing about pets is that they trust you completely and seeing the fox not understanding why he had to go and why the woman betrayed him was horrible. In his mind all he wanted to do was be with the woman, so why would she do that to him? The woman had other people in the world but after the hound left all he had was her. It brings back all the guilt you felt if you've ever had to put your dog to sleep. It twists that little piece of you that thinks you somehow betrayed something that trusted you completely.
- inactive, on 04/14/2009, -5/+18it was too painful to watch even once.
- docbaily, on 04/14/2009, -1/+14Irreversible was rough as hell.
- lisaawesome, on 04/14/2009, -0/+12I watched it with my mother. Big ***** mistake.
- ladysherwood, on 04/14/2009, -0/+11The Fox and the Hound made my daughter (age 5 at the time) sob uncontrollably. Didn't see that coming. I didn't become emotionally invested in movies until well into adulthood.
"They can't be friends anymore!!" she laments. - amcnair, on 04/14/2009, -1/+12Um... He did win the Oscar for that. So you don't need to imagine it. Unless that was some thinly veiled sarcasm I missed.
- johnnyboy239, on 04/14/2009, -0/+11I saw requiem in 6th grade, alone in my room with the lights out. When I finished it I wanted to die, I still maintain that it's the most powerful movie I've ever seen
- therodersabides, on 04/14/2009, -0/+11Actually the Fountain is one of my favorite movies of all time. Both Pi and The Wrestler were great movies as well.
- inactive, on 04/14/2009, -0/+11all i could think before i clicked the link was.. requiem for a dream..
- TrevorBradley, on 04/14/2009, -0/+10Schindler's List is an exceptionally good movie and worth a rewatch. The first time I watched it I recall feeling bad that so many names passed by in the movie and that I'd forgotten most of them.
The second and third time the horrid sting of the first viewing isn't as harsh (I cried for about 5 minutes after seeing it in the theatre and couldn't leave my seat the first time I watched it). Later, it's easier to follow the sequence of events. It is important to remember the history of humanity. - ddogfilm, on 04/14/2009, -5/+14totally agree. irreverable was rough. the rest. ehhh
- ChaosProfessor, on 04/14/2009, -1/+9Shazam
- amcnair, on 04/14/2009, -1/+9OK, thanks for the correction. My bad.
- jstohler, on 04/14/2009, -0/+8Grave of the Fireflies is pure pain.
- shadowspawn, on 04/14/2009, -3/+11Vulgar, Train Spotting, and Cookers needed to be on that list. There's another one about jail life and how the jail degrades (upgrades security) over time, that one was pretty horrific to watch too, but I forget the damn name.
- Poblasai, on 04/14/2009, -0/+8Schindler's List and the Pianist were the first exceptions that came to mind after reading.
Other than those, great list. Someone else mentioned Hotel Rowanda... seconded.
Requiem, Grave of Fireflies, Irreversible and the above mentioned stand as some of my favorite movies of all time, although each and every one of them is an exercise in self-inflicted pain. - Elijah17, on 04/14/2009, -0/+8The Fox And The Hound is the most soul-crushingly depressing Disney film ever made.
Lion King? Child's play compared to that film.... - elfprince13, on 04/14/2009, -0/+8the Fox and the Hound was the ONLY movie that made me cry as a kid.
- Smokeydabear, on 04/14/2009, -0/+8There was.
- danwallace, on 04/14/2009, -0/+8I really don't think watching Armageddon and Con Air over these movies means you have good taste.
- erikwithaknotac, on 04/14/2009, -0/+7No Hotel rwanda?
- humanedited, on 04/14/2009, -0/+7I didn't know that you can put an entire list on a single page? Is that a CSS or Ajax trick?
- Ichiban1081, on 04/14/2009, -0/+7Yeah that movie should have been on the list as well. The ultimate revenge movie, I dont even wish that on my WORST enemy.
- fadeddragon, on 04/14/2009, -1/+8"Too bad 2 buildings built to withstand impacts from planes went down from thermite explosions on the inner support beams"
Since when have skyscrapers been designed to withstand impacts from airplanes? - chrisfly, on 04/14/2009, -1/+8no.
